The Dancing Poetry Corner – Guiding A Star Through Dance

As exhibited on the 11/2/15 Dancing With The Stars show, this show is much more than dancing. The show was a study in heartbreak, heart-tugging, heart wrenching, stories from the heart. The show reveals personal stories, personal growth. The show has deeply affected the pros, stars, and the viewers in ways that not any of us had comprehended before.

The pros get so many more opportunities by being able to travel with their star. They meet many new people they would never have dreamed meeting before. Their lives are greatly enriched by this superlative Ballroom show. I love how the show is one huge 21 Season Dancing With The Stars Family! It is a thing of beauty to witness and a joy forever!

Were your eyes drippy and moist last night? Because my emotions boiled over like a beaker in a laboratory. A few of the stories resonated in my life. I’m sure they affected you in that way, too. A show that can make us feel something personally within ourselves has fulfilled its mission.

The opening was a grand, glorious, glamorous show-stopper! Showcased were the ladies and men pros in separate sequences. Blending together, we were treated to a golden showcase! Another choreography fabulous feat by Mandy Moore! The entrance of the couples was filled with peppy pizzazz! Read more..

DWTS21 Sharna Burgess Writes Of How Proud She Is Of Nick Carter, Teases On Next Week’s Dances

Sharna Burgess has written a new blog at Hollywood Life. She writes of how proud she is of Nick this week and what’s happening in his life. She also gives a tiny preview for what’s taking place for their next dances. Read more below and at the link.

Nick really brought all of his emotion to the dance tonight. He didn’t want to watch the video package that aired just before the dance because he didn’t want to get too overwhelmed, but I saw in his eyes and in all of those moments as we were dancing the love that he has for his for his wife and how much this meant to him. And at the end of the dance when he dropped to one knee because he was so overjoyed with everything that’s happening in his life — it was truly a beautiful moment! All I could do was try to find Lauren to go there and be next to him; they are just such a beautiful couple and love each other so much. I am so happy about the news that a new Backstreet Boy is coming to the family; what an amazing reveal! I know he will be an incredible dad, and I’m so excited for him to start this new journey with Lauren. As his coach, I couldn’t be more proud of him, and as his friend, I couldn’t be happier for him.

Next week, we have a whole new challenge that we have never before on the show where we have to travel to another city with another couple. We have to watch a show, and create another number inspired by it to perform next Monday as well as an individual competition dance so it going to be really intense and a lot of pressure, but I know Nick can handle it. We’re also really excited to be working with this particular couple (to be announced!) as we absolutely adore them and they are so talented.

PureDWTS Season 21, Week 8 – Power Rankings

I know I can’t be the only one that was over themes a couple weeks ago – and I have to wonder if others share the other sentiment I have: that a lot of the theme weeks this season have started to feel a bit…redundant. “Hometown Glory” week, “Most Memorable Year” week, and now “Personal Icons” week – anyone else feel like these themes have churned out kinda the same dances over and over? I feel like I’ve seen so many crying dances this season – more than I care to. How ’bout we just ditch the themes from here on out and just…y’know, DANCE.

As predicted, the immunity and dance-off was about as farcical as it could possibly be – clear agendas, and some eyebrow-raising rulings by the judges. Felt more like whoever got the louder reaction from the crowd got the points, rather than whoever was dancing more competently or actually even trying to portray the dance style they were given. In the end, I doubt 2 points is going to help anyone a TON if they aren’t already getting the votes, and really the only one who got a serious boost was Nick, who has a nifty little 4-point cushion over the next highest-scorer and and now is within one cumulative point of Bindi – I’m just waiting for that to somehow come into play in these next few weeks, when Nick suddenly inches ahead of Bindi and suddenly by virtue of his cumulative point total, he gets an edge – maybe first pick in some cockamamie dance they’ve cooked up, maybe first pick of songs, who knows. It all just feels verrry convenient.

Sad to see Andy go, but I can’t help but think that Allison’s chaotic choreography is partially to blame for their departure – for the second time this season, she kinda got subtly called out by the judges again for having too much going on in Andy’s Viennese waltz…which, by the wait, just kinda felt to me like a retooling of Hayes’ switch week Viennese waltz which was met with equal criticism by the judges. His paso last week was pretty chaotic as well – and poor Andy just couldn’t keep up in either one, I’m afraid, and it made the critique from the judges feel like they were calling out his sloppy technique…but the subtext was “your technique was sloppy because the dance had way too much going on.” Part of me hopes that during her maternity leave next season, Allison gets a bit more introspective and maybe figures out a way to still honor her own style while focusing more on being true to the ballroom style that this show focuses on… Read more..

PureDWTS Season 21 Week 8 Media And Interviews – Scores, Videos, And More

Well, can I just start off by saying, I loved Bindi & Derek and Nick & Sharna’s dances the most last night. No one else could compare in my opinion. I would have given them BOTH 30’s! I’m a little out put with Bruno and Julianne not giving Derek and Bindi 10’s. Just please, TPTB, don’t let this be the start of the manipulations. The season is going so well and that will just ruin it. Ok, so, let’s review the scores anyway…

Nick Carter & Sharna Burgess 10-10-10-3 33 total
Carlos PenaVega & Witney Carson 9-9-9-2 29 total
Bindi Irwin & Derek Hough 10-9-9 28 total
Tamar Braxton & Valentin Chmerkovskiy 9-9-10 28 total
Alexa PenaVega & Mark Ballas 9-8-8-2 27 total
Alek Skarlatos & Lindsay Arnold 9-8-8 25 total
Andy Grammer & Allison Holker* 8-7-7-2 24 total *eliminated*

I hated to see Andy and Allison be eliminated. I’ll always remember his compassion for life and sharing his story and grief with us on Dancing With The Stars. Don’t miss him and Allison on The View and Good Morning America today.

In media and interviews, see E Online first for their coverage and interviews. I’d embed them, but, they mess up the page for how they stop and go. For lots of coverage with Derek and Bindi, see Pure Derek Hough. Note that Derek left right after the show last night. He was sick and Bindi said he went home to rest up and try and get better. DWTS Season 21, Week 9 – Who’s Dancing What…and When?

Here’s what we know so far for Dancing With The Stars Week 9. Next week the couples have an individual dance as always. They also have a “Duet” dance with another couple. When talking on the Duet Dance, Sharna mentions in a new E Online interview (new interviews here) that they are travelling to Las Vegas (not sure if she means all the couples or not?). She and Nick are paired with Val and Tamar for their Duet Dance.

ETA: Vogue here again. Mark and Alexa have a Contemporary dance and a Charleston next week. Not sure which is used for their individual or their Duet Dance? They are also bringing in Travis Garland to sing a beautiful song. Alexa hints that it might be a little “damp” next week.

ETA2: According to Glamour, Nick, Sharna, Val, and Tamar are going to Vegas to get inspired for their Duet dance. Also, Mark & Alexa and Bindi & Derek are Duet Partners. They are headed to New York City to get inspired for their dance. More details at Glamour.

ETA3: According to our intel, one of the Duets is going on a Cruise Ship. Glamour revealed this news as well.

ETA4: So, Derek and Mark have been switched from NYC to the Cruise. Alek and Carlos are in NYC. That leaves Tamar and Nick in Vegas. The clusterf*ck continues, as last we heard, Derek and Mark were to do a Charleston inspired by an NYC show. No idea if the dance style changed with the locale. ~Heidi

ETA5: Per Carlos’ Instagram, he, Alek, Witney, and Lindsay are on a cruise, which left from NYC. Seems like there was NOT a switch, after all.  -Court-

ETA6: Vogue here posting for Courtney since she’s stuck in traffic (be safe, Court.xx). Courtney did some digging and found the Cruise ship that Lindsay, Alek, Carlos, and Witney are on. You can see it at USA Today in all of it’s glory as it arrived to New York City today. Interesting too is that the show on the boat is called “We Will Rock You“. You can read the song list at this link for what they might have. Cool, huh? GOOD JOB, Court!

ETA7: Vogue again. Being Sharna, Nick, Val, and Tamar went to Las Vegas to see Cirque Du Solei Beatles “Love”(see Glamour link in ETA2 above), they most likely have a Beatles song. Here is a list of the soundtrack.

ETA8: Give it up to Courtney. She nailed it last night. Carlos confimed at his instagram that they are dancing to a song from “We Will Rock You”. Also, Mark and Alexa are on their way to meet Derek and Bindi in New York. More here.

ETA8: Per a stuffed mouse on Instagram, one of Carlos & Witney’s dances is the Argentine tango.  NOW BEFORE EVERYONE RUNS OFF MAKING ASSUMPTIONS – we have no way of telling if this is their individual dance or duet dance. So let’s try to avoid stating that as fact… -Court-

ETA9: Check out this tweet at Pure Derek Hough! I think it’s safe to say Derek, Bindi, Alexa, and Mark are dancing something to “Chicago”. Heidi was the first to guess this on Tuesday. Well done, Miss Heidi!~ Vogue

ETA10: Julia in comments mentioned how Derek, Bindi, Alexa, and Mark could be doing a Charlestion to “Hot Honey Rag” from the show “Chicago” since it fits a Charleston. To confuse things further, we got an “All That Jazz” teaser today from the DancingABC instagram. Well, check out this “Chicago” performance. It starts out with “All That Jazz” and then goes into “Hot Honey Rag”. Hmmmm. So, could this be the song(s) they are dancing to? ~ Vogue

ETA11: Alek and Lindsay have an Argentine Tango and their Duet team has a Paso Doble to “We Will Rock You”. Correction: Shorty The Mouse says they have a Salsa for their individual dance.

ETA12: Just Jared Jr. has just released the songs for Dancing With The Stars Week 9. You can read on them all below. ~ Vogue

ETA13: According to Derek’s blog, they are now dancing Jazz for their duet. Still an unlearned style, but fewer rules than Charleston. And since they are using the “All That Jazz/Hot Honey Rag” combo, it makes a hell of a lot more sense. Gee wiz, are we edging toward a tiny bit of fairness in this thing?? You all should read Derek’s blog – he tells it like it is, including very gently calling out his sister and the other judges. 🙂

Duets:
Sharna & Nick are paired with Val & Tamar – Dancing a Rumba inspired from Cirque Du Solei Beatles “Love” (song: “Hey Jude”)
Mark & Alexa and Bindi & Derek – Dancing a JAZZ inspired from “Chicago” (Song Mix: “All That Jazz/Hot Honey Rag”)
Alek & Lindsay and Carlos & Witney – Dancing a Paso Doble inspired from “We Will Rock You” (Song: “We Will Rock You”)

Individual Dances:
Nick and Sharna – ?? (‘A Cool Cat In Town’ by Tape Five)
1-855-234-5610

Alexa and Mark – Contemporary (per Mark Interview) (‘Make it Rain’ by Ed Sheeran)
1-855-234-5602

Bindi and Derek – V. Waltz (Guess from periscope) (‘Roses and Violets’ by Alexander Jean)
1-855-234-5604

Alek and Lindsay – Salsa (‘Back It Up’ by Prince Royce f. Jennifer Lopez + Pitbull)
1-855-234-5601

Tamar and Val – ?? (‘Wicked Game’ by James Vincent McMorrow)
1-855-234-5612

Carlos and Witney – Argentine Tango (‘What Do You Mean’ by Justin Bieber)
1-855-234-5605

I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. And I'm cynical and jaded too. But I do love DWTS. :-)
