Alek Skarlatos and Lindsay Arnold talk to KTLA
Many thanks to idolxfactor for this nice video of Alek and Lindsay from this morning!

I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. And I'm cynical and jaded too. But I do love DWTS. :-)
I’m impressed with how well Alek does on camera having sort of being thrust into the public eye. He does great in interviews and this one is no exception.
Alek’s silent opinion of what he thought about Lindsay’s reply See 1:39 mark of the video. A picture, or gesture in this case, can speak a 1,000 (or even four+three) letter words. Me thinks there may not be any family fun nights shared by them after the show is done.
Seriously, who holds a water glass that way by chance? 🙁
Christian W, I think you are reading too much into hand placement. From all accounts, but Lindsay and her husband have been warmly accomodated in Oregon by the Skarlatos family and appear to have become part of their extended family. There are social media posts of Lindsay’s husband going fishing with Alek’s father and Alek’s mother routinely comments on Lindsay’s social media accounts.
@Sharnai I respect what you’re saying and the evidences of their bond in Oregon. But I went frame-by-frame through that portion of the clip just to be as confident as I could be before posting. And I have to say. it looks, especially coupled with the askance look he gives in the midst of the gesture, that he knew of what he was doing. I also tried holding a similarly shaped glass in that extremely awkward manner, and it isn’t a natural grip by any stretch of my imagination. And I’ve obviously got a pretty robust imagination. :o)
Also, I feel if you look at their video packages and the less frequent and slightly less enthusiastic posts from her Instagram, there’s a shifting toward the lessening of their once more harmonious bond. It does seem to be improving slightly lately as she sees the public is still onboard.
It might all stem from her attitude toward him when he was struggling there with the judges scores and her added sternness during training. I just think it may have soured him toward her somewhat.
All speculation of course, but his finger under my nose of scrutiny still reeks of bitterness.
I didn’t get that vibe from this interview but I do feel like she’s been very happy to take the praise when he does well, and is very happy to have the exposure and opportunities such as his trip to meet our Pres and attend world series, but when he’s not doing so well with judges comments she’s ready to roll her eyes and throw him under the bus rather than coach him on how to manage how he appears…Early that first week he got bad comments from judges and the scores he got from his jive she was all about telling him how well he did, sort of feeding the monster, then turned on him.
I feel like I may be beating a dead horse (durh), but if we all remember back when he flipped the double bird to the judges during his training package Halloween week, it makes it rather clear that he has no qualms or reservations about displaying his displeasure in this manner.
So, his lack of a finger filter on the set of KTLA is hardly a shock to me. Very juvenile and dismaying display, but apparently he is just a big kid with a little rebel inside.
And for Lindsay, as much as I liked her and want to keep liking her, she’s rather shown that she has a bit of growing left to do in regards to handling how her emotions are displayed when things aren’t going as planned. I actually think she did better with her first child (Victor Ortiz) than she is with her second baby boy. Package editing not withstanding.
And the fact that she likely realizes the import of this opportunity may be getting the better of her at times. Whereas with Victor, her expectations and realizations were likely far lower, and the disappointment with his behavior and attitude affected her differently.
And to continue beating that horse — I do believe in thoroughness. I uploaded a freeze frame of the bird that flew over his cuckoo’s nest of “what the h_e_double hockey sticks was he thinking” on to flickr but I can’t post the link.
Just try picking up a glass, even somewhat naturally, in that way. Sorry, but a near impossibility. 🙁
9:53 A.M PST: The horse has officially expired.
Oh for Pete’s sake, Christian, LET IT GO. You’re absolutely beating a dead horse, and we’re tired of watching you do it. Move on.
@Christian My husband picks up small glasses like that all the time. He has large hands, and when glasses are small that’s what he does. I’m sorry he didn’t lift his pinky for you.
Lindsay is 21. She’s doing just fine. They’re doing just fine. Plenty of real drama going on this week. I’m sure you could find plenty of tape to slow down and analyze from Monday’s show.
@Countess Frankenstein, I mean @Courtney, I think you missed the official time of death at 9:53 A.M. PST for the horse. 🙂
And @Whitney, I fear your husband may be looking at the need of an orthopedist in the near future if he actually is holding his glass in such a contorted fashion. Just sayin’. :o)
Ladies, I’m sorry I don’t share the exact same view on Alek as you likely have. He lost his Teflon coating when he became an adult like the rest of us.
Christian, take a walk. I don’t give a rat’s ass if you like Alek or not – what I care about is you writing the damn sermon on the mount about it in abstract, flowery language time after time after time. It’s not humorous, you are not impressing anyone, and you’re STILL stuck on the same topic, after I told you to MOVE ON.
Comment moderation it is.
Alek has gotten so relaxed and at ease in media interviews like this one. I also like that Lindsay is secure enough in herself to let Alek be the focal point of the interviews.
Condescending, arrogant, rude and over the line = Christian.
Alek and Lindsay remind me of siblings. You love each other, but evry once in a while you get into a little scuffle, and you joke around. Their body language during the show seems to suggest to me that they like each other. I also like that his head doesn’t seem to have blown up. I’m enjoying seeing Lindsay as a pro, she’s so young!
I like Alek. He’s a 23 year old male and said 23 year old’s male perspective is going to sneak out in actions and speech. I also agree that he has done really well with his recent public appearances.
I also believe Lindsay has done a really good job with Alek in terms of choreography and especially costuming – IMO, he has really rocked his costumes this season. I also believe Lindsay likes Alek and agree that she has certainly enjoyed the outside perks of his appearance on the show.
