Afterbuzz TV Reviews Dancing With The Stars Week 10. As always, let us know what you think in comments. The video below goes LIVE at 7:00pm ET and you’ll be able to watch it anytime afterwards as well.
When I heard Serge was the guest, I was really sceptical, and was thinking about avoiding it. But I was really pleasantly surprised. I actually agreed with him the most of everyone in the panel, including Jake. I felt the rest of the panel were too hard on Alek TBH.
I was totally shocked by Serge too! Just goes to show you how awesome Bindi is…she’s my most favorite DWTS contestant of all the seasons.
I also thought “oh god” when I found out Serge was on the show but I guess with Val not in the final 4 his comments are actually valid and less bias.
It’s not even just Bindi, there was just a whole different aura to him. When others pointed out a fault in a contestant, Serge came up with a reasoning behind it, which were so accurate. For example his explanation about the married couple, and about Alek’s Waltz. I’m just glad I’m not going to harbor this angry feeling that I usually carry with me for a while after Serge comes on as a guest.
I hope all their prediction about the winner comes true.
Agree with everyone on how pleasantly surprised I was with Serge. I was expecting him to be bias in Sharna’s favor (and when they asked who he wanted to win, he didn’t mention but I have a good feeling he wants her to take the MBT but his mention on not connecting with Nick is a ver interesting revelation). However, he had the best perspective and comments out of all four of them. It may just be me, but I can’t stand Suri. It may just be because I’m an Alek fan and couldn’t stand her comments against him. Like whenever someone had something good to say about him she would go “Really?” in a sarcastic manner.
That may just be me? I don’t know, cant stand her and I just miss Kristyn. I’m glad Jake and Serge were there to save the day
I agree Bella. Suri seems to have something against Alek and it rubbed me wrong. I have missed Kristyn these past few episodes.
It was nice to see Sergio being more likable like he was in SYTYCD. I was so disappointed in him last year but maybe his ego got to him. And maybe he has been a bit more humbled in the last several months. I hope this is the Sergio we will continue to see. Maybe he is gunning for a troupe spot…lol.
I think Serge seems happy and fulfilled in his current career and just told it like it is. I think it will be Bindi, Alek, Nick, Carlos. I think Alek has momentum and support. I think Nick will out dance him but he will get 2nd anyway. I was pleased that Serge gave credit to Derek. Diva has such a Mark bias and feel that she is on some level jealous of Derek and Marks relationship. Derek doesn’t seem close to her at all & it pains her to say anything nice at all and she couldn’t even mention Bindi AND Derek. It is about the celebrity and Bindis performance can’t be denied and D said he teaches the steps and she performs them and brings them to life. Such a true loving partnership. What also can’t be denied Is the fact that as a non-dancer, 100% of her dance knowledge has come from Derek and he brought something new to the table with her each week to push her to the next level, make her shine above the crowd. He was magnificent this season and credit where credit is due, that can’t be denied.
Nice to see I’m not the only one who thinks that, Mandi. Especially when Suri flat out said Alek’s dance off cha cha was bad. I get it, everyone has an opinion, but at least throw him a bone for how hard he worked on his performance. Can’t even deal with her negativity and sarcasm
Add me to the list of people surprised at how not-terrible Serge was as a guest.
I found myself agreeing with so many things he said ESPECIALLY about the married couple thing and how it has affected Carlos & Witney’s chemistry (or lack there of).
He was also pretty darn funny often time so.. good for you Serge. You re not as bad as I thought you were.
I really liked this episode with Jake and Serge. It was so nice to have Serge I think because he is an actual ballroom (well, latin) dancer and can give dance critiques like Anna used to but he does it in the way that he explains what it is supposed to look like and then says what the couple did. Very informative and he doesn’t come across as biased in any way (i.e. like darvina and mark!)
I still think Nick will take second and not alek because although he may have votes now – the finale is always basically up to the freestyle and not always what people thought before the finale. I think Nicks freestyle will be very strong and in comparison Alek will have a lifty but somewhat lacking in dance routine (hope I’m wrong) and also too many general viewers think Alek is underserving of being in the finale because he “can’t dance”
Amazing how non-biased Serge is when Val isn’t still in the competition. He’s actually a good guest now as he has no favourites still in the competition.
I agree with all the Suri comments. She needs to move on to something else. Serge was like a different person this time. Really liked his input
You guys are echoing my thoughts!! Serge (and Jake) was SO needed to balance out Suri and to a lesser extent Darv’s negativity.
I really think Suri can’t be a host. She doesn’t know how to state her opinions but balance it with positivity and not so much of an attitude. Also, she was unprepared. They didn’t know that Alek’s dance was a waltz and chalked it up to being “forgettable”. I was so glad when Serge spoke up and spoke to how Alek exactly has improved. He pretty much negated what Darvina said about “not seeing much difference between last week and this week with Alek”. The statement was ludicrous considering last week was a vastly different style dance (salsa) than the waltz they were discussing. It spoke to how much they are just spewing off without proper research. And to Suri, yes, the cha cha wasn’t the best, but how about speaking to how Alek has NEVER had a cha cha verses Carlos who has had one and he was at a disadvantage to begin with. Again, do the research if you are going to be on the show. Kristyn would have! She is missed!
Yeah,I too was pleasantly surprised by Serge this week!! I have called Nick,Bindi & Alek in the final 3 since after week 1. Now that we’ve seen how Nick has(n’t) progressed, I really think Nick could end up in 3rd or 4th place. Alek has a great shot at 2nd place but I don’t see him higher than that.
I do hope they’re all right in that Bindi’s gonna win. 😀 That would be the icing on a somewhat craptastic year for me 🙂 Derek with a SIXTH MBT after back to back 4th place finishes 😀
First, how unprofessional these people are for not explaining why a show scheduled for 7:10 started at 7:45. And the traffic excuse doesn’t fly anymore. You prepare for that. Also not having complete information on all the dances, especially the moderator. Suri has done that before. She doesn’t remember a dance. This is her job. You take notes and concentrate on the dances. My boss would show me the door if I continually was as unprepared as she is.
I also was surprised with Serge. I noticed the chat roll on the side and some of the fam fans were really shocked that he picked Bindi to win. It was hysterical. Maybe Serge had some PR lessons.
Yeah, the traffic excuse is just stupid. I’ve been to LA many times and I know that if you have to be somewhere – like a JOB – at 7, you best leave at 5:30 even if it’s only a half hour away.
As for not being prepared? Well, that’s doubly stupid.
To me, Serge made this episode worth it, and I appreciate Jake too. Agree that Suri didn’t do a good job as moderator this episode, what a snotty way of dissing someone by “not remembering” what dance Alek and Lindsay performed. Do your homework and come to your job prepared!
Last week Suri was just as unprepared to discuss the dances and scores, much less to ‘moderate’ a balanced discussion of the show. At least she didn’t interrupt Serge & Jake as much as she did last week with Belinda. I miss Kristyn! I was pleasantly surprised with Serge & thought his comments gave some insight into the dance technique & growth of the remaining celebs…I really enjoyed his points about the trio dances.
I don’t remember if I have seen Serge on here before as I have only watched these from time to time. My impression of this session was that he was thoughtful and specific in his responses about the dances and participants. I thought that he did a good job. No disses of anyone and no agenda apparent. I like professionalism in things and I think he came across that way. That is one reason why Sasha is so well loved. The professionals that will make it after they stop being on the show are the professionals that don’t burn their bridges and keep an open mind about all their co-workers.
I also miss Kristyn. Suri is not great at hosting for listeners–I don’t watch the video, I listen to the podcast while driving. When she addresses another panelist as “you” I can’t tell who she is looking or pointing at just based on audio. Kristyn is much better at using names and describing what is happening to those who cannot watch the show.
I was pretty annoyed with Suri. The way she laughed at Serges jokes. Sorry he was funny, but she laughed so loud it was annoying to me. You could tell she was into Serge, and it showed. I too was surprised with Serge, the last few times I saw him on afterbuzz (DWTS and SYTYCD) I did not like him. Felt he was being rude. But this time he and Jake saved the show for me. He was honest and I liked his view on Alek. I was shocked he didn’t favor Sharna in any way, and the fact he thought they would come in third. I still am a Backstreet Boys fan, but this season I wouldn’t mind if their predictions are correct and Bindi wins or even Alek.
