Private Members Area – DWTS Season 21 Finale Discussion
It’s time for Dancing with the Stars Season 21 finale and you know what that means. Time to enjoy some friendly, educated banter in the Pure DWTS Insider. If you’re not a Pure DWTS Insider yet, you can do so here. If you are, then I look forward to the discussion in the comments.
Can you believe this season is over? As Court said in her Power Rankings, time flies!
What did you think of the finale? Did you like the use of the grove? How about the returning stars? Anything you loved or hated?
Of course, what do you think of the winner? Discuss away before we go on our Holiday break.
I loved it all last night! And yay to Derek and Bindi winning. I’m so happy. I know my Dad is just shining too. WOO HOO
Vogue..I didn’t want it to end, I wasn’t ready to stop watching the dancing, especially Bindi & Derek. I gave her all my votes every week from week one. I am sure going to miss our sweet loving Bindi I just loved how Nick acted after Bindi won. The whole cast loved her.
I loved the 2nd finale night and the Grove Christmas affect. Makes me want to put away my fall/Thanksgiving decor and get out my Christmas decor. 🙂
I love the little skit with Victor, Gary (as Santa reading the poem) and Paula as Mrs. Claus. Loved all the pro dancing and the whole 2 hours went faster than I thought it would, which was nice. Must have been the good entertainment.
I saw a picture of Val standing behind Bindi. She was holding her mirror ball and Val had her in a hug. I really enjoyed when Val had Bindi for switch up, she brought the sweetness out of him.
Shows like last night’s is the reason I love DWTS. Humor, heart, beautiful moments, gorgeous dancing, and celebration. Plus my favorite contestant won and the world seemed to find a little joy with that girl.
Hayes joining the tour – very good for him! I was so happy to see him back and I hope it’ll be a wonderful experience for his family. Alek I already knew about but Hayes was a nice surprise.
Nick was very gracious in his loss – who wouldn’t be? But still, very stand-up of him and the entire cast and crew.
Fig – yes to all of that. I finally enjoyed a finale again. Maybe I can lose some of my snark now. Bindi was awesome, she is just remarkable for such a young woman. It was fantastic to see a straight up talented awesome person earn the MBT.
I love that the finale seemed “pimp-free” (well except for the usual Jenna on every camera). It felt like it was really about 3 individual journeys. My skeptical side wonders if it is because its only the second finale that was “fam” free in 7 seasons. It does seem to make the finale have a different flair. And I Loved last night – best winner ever IMO.
I really enjoyed last night’s finale. All the great dancing and entertainment. I have always loved DWTS because it was the closet thing to a variety show we have these days. Like the days of early TV that I grew up with. It’s a shame that the producers have kind of lost that in the last few seasons. I think the loss of the result shows was some of the downfall. Maybe they could try to have one season or 6 couples; I don’t have the answers but I know I miss certain aspects of my old favorite show.
I finally enjoyed Nick Carter last night, he lightened up and didn’t worry about winning and was gracious and danced with a new fervor. Congratulations to all of the celebrities that participated in this season, they each brought something different and unique. Bindi really was magic for the entire DWTS organization. TBTB should take a lesson from her. Love this girl and her message. So glad she won and even though I will miss Mr. Derek Hough, I hope this is his last season. He needs to delight us on other levels such as Broadway and movies and much more. He is such a wonderful talented man.
Thank you to all the moderators for your hard work and knowledge and brining us into the world of Derek and DWTS.
I was so impressed with how gracious Nick was when he credited Bindi like that. I couldn’t help but think that if Nick had been more like that throughout the season then we all might think differently about him and he might have made it a much harder win for Bindi. I loved that he ended on such a good note though.
Couldn’t agree more about Nick, John. He was a total class act at the end. I would have loved to have seen more of that side to him all season.
Agree about Nick. I warmed up to him so much during the finale. Even during GMA he was so relaxed. Wish we saw that the whole season, but he seemed so stressed. My favorite finale ever!
I think, after a bunch of reflection and seeing the view differences on the videos, not to mention the fact that Bindi is still trending on twitter two days after she won…that it was never even close. I think she was far out in front probably from week 3 or so on. That’s just my gut feeling now that it’s over and I’m not afraid of jinxing anything. 😀 Of course, I’m hopped up on sugar from cinnamon rolls right now too.
I agree PH, all signs were pointing to Bindi, but I refused to get my hopes up. I also was certain given the tour and Derek’s 5 MBTs TPTB would try to bring down Bindi. If Nick was going on tour, I think they would’ve tried harder, that’s why I felt Alek had a better shot. At the end I’m just ecstatic about how things turned out this season. Simply perfect. Now if only Derek could track down his 2 missing MBTs. I want a pic of his 6 MBTs and 2 Emmys. You know if any other pro had that kind of hardware they’d be flooding social media with photos.
Two phenoms together for 11 weeks. Watching the pros and judges mass around the table waiting for Tom’s pronouncement was startlingly bizarre. Can’t wait for the phenoms to reconnoiter in Australia.
It appears that faced with an immovable force (Bindi, with Derek), TPTB got a little creative and realized that fans would be excited to see others from the cast besides the winner. So this season the viewers got the winner they wanted and TPTB got some names for their tour. I’m wondering if it’s possible that TPTB will realize that there’s more “win” for everyone when they let the viewers have their way. And I haven’t even had any sugar yet …
Suzy, I think that this was an instance of Bindi running away with it so hard that they realized tampering would be counterproductive. You don’t manipulate a great dancer who is getting the lion’s share of the votes out of a win just because of the tour – that’s shooting yourself in the foot. I think it if was a close vote, it would have been no problem to do it.
Plus, everyone loves Bindi. I wonder if the producers realized they have actual souls. 🙂
Well, isn’t it typical of Derek, Ananya, that he doesn’t even know where two of his MBTs are? 🙂
I loved having a Christmas-y show, we never get that so it was different and fun. I also loved the skit wits Gary, Paula and Victor (he was such a good sport). I wish we’d seen more of Nick’s goofy side that he showed in the finale.
Does anyone have any idea what Gary Busey handed to Bindi and Derek maybe 2 minutes after they were announced the winners while they were sitting on others’ shoulders? Thankfully Derek had the presence of mind to take the one Gary had pushed at Bindi and made it, as well as the one Gary had given him, blessedly disappear.
A week with no Bindi. Its like a rainbow disappeared. 🙁 How generous of her to donate her winnings. Its like the cherry on top. Class act a lot of the other celebs could learn from.
So I guess a few dancers are off to Sway, and Mark and BC are killing it. I have to wonder if this is where Marks heart is gonna take him, and away from the ballroom. Im torn, he’s phenomenal in both worlds.
Anybody going to any tour dates?
I’m going to the Austin show in February. Is anyone else going?
Didn’t realize Bindi donated her winnings, that’s pretty cool. My Monday night are definitely less exciting now. But I’m not really ready for season 22 yet.
Unlike what Derek wants to do, Mark can actually do both quite well – and it behooves him to do both. Just look at the exposure he got this past season – you can’t buy that.
Mark has always been addicted to music.
Sadly, I don’t think I’m going to hit any tour dates. None are good for me right now.
