PureDWTS Maks And Val Chmerkovskiy Dance On The Ellen Show – Video
Maks and Val Chmerkovskiy danced on The Ellen Show today to promote their new “our Way” tour. If you like what you see, see this link for tickets. I see a dancer from the Move Live On Tour. And check out how Val is playing his violin.
I love how they think that this tour is so original. The thing that I mostly don’t get though is the “let’s make history” part. What is so historical about this?
Vanity thy name is Chmerkovskiy. Good luck to them though.
More like “Chmerkanye”…
For them it’s history because it’s something they’ve been dreaming about for a long time, and from where they started to where they are now it’s quite an accomplishment for their whole family.
Sadly I don’t get to go to any of these dance shows/tours because I don’t live in the US, but regardless of whether you like them or not, I’m sure it will be a very entertaining show. I’m happy for them.
What I find ironic is that they know Derek and Julianne aren’t doing MLOT again this summer so they think they can capitalize on that. Sorry but Watching Maks dance here…he’s no Derek Hough, that’s for SURE! and $1000 for Ultimate front row VIP?? NO THANKS!! Oh but you get to drink champagne with them….BIG WHOOP! It’s coming to Cleveland OH which is an hour away from me. I’ve no interest in going, AT ALL!
The Chmerkanyes (LOL GOOD ONE COURT!) aren’t any different from any other immigrant family who came to this country for whatever reason. My great-grandparents immigrated from Austria. As did a whole LOT of people in the early 1900’s. Maks and Val aren’t any more special than my great-grandparents. Sure they dance and play instruments…um, remind me what instrument Maks plays. I knew Val played violin but I don’t know what Maks can play.
As I already said, neither Maks nor Val can hold a candle to Derek Hough.
@Kelly – Maks is very adept at playing the victim. 🙂 When it suits his interests, of course.
It’s sad when really talented people develop really bad egos and attitudes. They would get along with Kanye.
In regards to Kelly’s comment: what does Maks and Val tour have to do with Derek? And why must people compare them all the time? They’re all very talented and there’s plenty of room for all of them in the dance world. Honestly I think this whole “rivalry” thing, Derek fans vs Val fans is very silly… I love watching both. No need for Derek’s fans to try to undermine everything Val and Maks do, and vice versa…
@Maina – While I would be inclined to agree about Derek & the Chmerkanyes’ respective tours being apples & oranges, I can’t really get past the fact that Val & Maks want to act like their tour is 100% unique, “never before seen”, and history-making…while it’s not all that different from what Derek & Julianne have already done on their tour. Had they just said “we’re gonna dance, it’s gonna be fun, come join us”, I probably wouldn’t have batted an eye. The fact that they’re talking it up the way they are? Ehhh…seems a tad insecure to me. Like they feel they need to prove something.
And I daresay that both Maks & Val have never shied away from adding fuel to the fan feud fire (apologies for excessive use of alliteration) themselves, so it’s not like Kelly was manufacturing conflict out of nowhere. The fans may be prolonging the feud – but I don’t see Maks or Val doing anything to end it. In fact, in a lot of ways I think they try to prolong it.
I lost the small bit of respect I had for Val when he posted that meme of the overweight girl with Down’s Syndrome who’s family is now suing Val for 6 MILLION!
To me, it’s SO ironic that Maks and Val are doing their own Tour to tell their ‘story’ knowing full well that Derek and Julianne are NOT touring this summer!
Val and Maks egg on their fans to run the Hough/Ballas faction down. Maina, Did you NOT see what Val, Maks, Tony and the Dance With Me Twitter acct posted after Kellie and Derek BEAT Zendaya and Val in S16?? It was rude, immature and VERY middle-schoolish behavior on their parts. Val (and Zendaya) thought they had that win IN THE BAG! but then , they ran Kellie and Derek down after a well-deserved win! Poor sportsmanship anyone?
And lets not forget how both Maks and Val were basically HANDED their MBT’s on a silver platter! They had the ringiest ringers that ever rang in order to win that mirrorball trophy. Smh..yet people will say that Derek is the one who always gets ringers. Now THAT is a tired argument.
You reap what you sow, Maina.
Sorry, Maina, I’m going to ring in here too. If you’ve seen the “FAMS” twitter feeds you will know that Kelly is correct about their horrendous sportsmanship. They also encourage the bashing of other Pros by their silence when there fans tell them they are the real winners and the other Pro is a list of horrible adjectives. Everyone that claims to be Fam seems to have the same jealous mind set. Erin was recently deprogrammed but the rest continue their us against them mentality. I don’t hate the C Bros. but I do love to tweak their pomposity and bad behavior when it presents itself. That’s not to say I don’t wish them success or happiness. Two different things. You can be a C Bros. fan without all the bitterness but those who identify themselves as “fam fans” are usually a rabid lot. I think the C bros call themselves “The Fam” because The League of Asshats was already taken.
The “never before seen” is said all the time, even on dwts, how many people have said their freestyle would include “never before seen” or “never done on the show before” lifts or tricks and when they performed it, it wasn’t that innovative. They’re just excited and trying to promote their show, I don’t take that too seriously. In fact, I hadn’t even noticed they had said it. And this is only a small sample, who knows what their show is gonna be like?
I agree that sometimes Val takes these jabs at Derek that I think are unnecessary and add fuel to the fire, I don’t like that and how his friends react on twitter when Val doesn’t win, or gets a bad score. I don’t try to justify that. And on Val’s side, I think it comes from insecurity, especially before he won. His competitiveness gets the best of him sometimes, but do I think he’s a bad person because of it? No. Do I agree with everything he says and does? No. Do I think he should win or be given talented performers as partners every season? No.
I don’t know what was said about Kelly and Derek after they won, but that season, in my opinion, was decided on the FS. I think Zendaya overall was the best dancer/performer and it was great to see a different side of Val, working with a 16 year old, but it was head to head until the very end. I remember Sharna & Lindsay were on afterbuzz commenting about that, and they gave very honest opinions to that, even though Sharna is a very close friend of Val’s. I don’t think Val’s bitter about that anymore. He even said (in one of those livestreams) that Kelly & Derek’s FS was one of the best in the history of the show. He mentioned Amber’s as well.
I guess I try to look for the good in people.
They have their flaws, like we all do, but they’re good people.
I’m happy for them, I hope their show is great, I’d love to go to it, as well as Move, but I can’t 🙁 and I hope Derek comes back for S22, unless he has something better to do.
@Maina I have to say I agree with a lot of what you’ve said, I’m a big fan of dancing in general, and I must say that every pro has succeeded to get on my nerves at some point, some more than the others but that never stopped me from enjoying their work, for me a good dance is a good dance, regardless of the pro that it came from.
It must kill Maks and Val’s ego to use the same company associated with Derek and Julianne. I personally would not pay a dime to see them dance. But I did see them on the Ellen show today and Val out dances Maks. Val is the one most talented and really did not see much movement from Maks as I did from Val. I thought Maks was gonna be a big time movie star (according to him) after leaving DWTS. What happened to that? Guess Maks finally realized a person has to have acting talent and not win a mirror ball trophy to get to A-list status. And that title “Our Way,” can it be anymore obnoxious and egotistical? Geez!
Most Derek fans don’t spend much time thinking about either Maks or Val – why would we?? We have no reason to – Derek keeps plenty busy all the time and most of us focus on that. The only time we spend a lot of time talking about them is when idgits come on to this blog saying stupid stuff like “Val never gets ringers, yet Derek always does.” Of course then a response is required.
But their fans haunt Derek’s IG, the said the nastiest things on Amy and Nastia’s accounts – it’s quite disgusting behavior all the way around and in NO WAY do Derek fans reciprocate at even close to the same level – if at all.
Maybe they meant “Our Way” or NO way. As in Val changing songs and dance on DWTS or “give it to Nastia” kind of way 🙂 They are too desperate to prove their tour is groundbreaking or first in history. Let me repeat what I wrote on another post “Confidence is silent. Insecurities are loud.”
Desperate? Did someone say desperate? In a discussion of Maks and Val that could only mean one thing … https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Px3RpIat3Ac
Amen!! PHeidi
Does Maks even have the stamina to do 48 shows? After he “won” S18 he was quoted several times (this from http://www.etonline.com) “ET caught up with Dancing with the Stars’ big winners Meryl Davis and Maksim Chmerkovskiy Tuesday night in Los Angeles, where dancing pro Maksim dished that he probably won’t be returning to the hit ABC show.
“I don’t think so,” a clearly exhausted Maks told ET bluntly when asked if he would be returning next season.
“This is exhausting. It has nothing to do with money. The first thing that I did after hugging her [Meryl] … was come up to Derek [Hough] and I was like, ‘Dude, I don’t how you do it.’ He did it five times. I have no idea.”
Fellow dancing pro Derek has won the coveted Dancing with the Stars mirror ball trophy five times.”
And @KellyK I’m with you. Any tiny bit of respect I had for Val went out the window when he posted that pic, then argued and blocked ppl who begged him to take it down. Now tumblr is going crazy because Derek deleted an IG about imitation. Yes Derek, who has given tons of interviews in last few days is “worried” and “thinking” of the Brothers C. Please, Derek is so successful, has projects, almost certainly a starring role on Broadway & he’s worried about them. It’s truly laughable how petty and insecure their fans are. If Maks can actually dance through 48 shows like Derek did in MOLT I’ll be shocked. Just watch, 1/2 the tickets will be “donated” to fill theater. Just like Miami.
After watching DWTS forever and MLOT both times Derek/Julianne’s professionalism and work ethic is absolutely undeniable. I respect both Derek and Julianne and you can expect a certain standard when you watch their work. There is never any doubt that Derek is going produce quality work and I appreciate that although I’m not a superfan.
I also think Val is incredibly talented (maybe not as creative as Derek but that doesn’t bother me) and also works really hard and has a bit of an ego.
Maks is the one I really doubt. He has a huge ego, a bad attitude and as far as I’m concerned isn’t that great of a dancer. He turned me off a long time ago. He’ll definitely be the weakest link on this tour and likely the reason why I won’t go see it.
Liz, I bet they all say that when they wrap up a season…including Derek. It takes everything out of them to make it to the end.
And say what you will, but, Maks looks in good shape and stamina to me right now (mentally and physically)….and I think that has a lot to do with Peta. He seems more at peace with himself. Anyway, I would hope so anyway because they have everything riding on this tour including a lot of their own money.
What happened to all those so called ”offers”, ”movies” & shit that Maks was doing? LOL. I always knew Maks never had it in him..he’s just a wannabee.
I will admit that maks looks happier than he usually does since he got engaged so I like that.
Ditto Vin!
Derek and Julianne are from an American family that lived in a secure environment, with lots of support from all sides, from government to community. I was in Russia for 8 weeks in 1970, at the height of the Cold War, before actual tourism was allowed. The conditions were not good, to say the least. Food was at a premium, as was decent clothing. We left most of our clothes with the young people we had met and befriended on the sly. (Not allowed). We sneaked our friends into the hotel to eat with us, and they were amazed. One meal had more meat than they got in a month. Even with the upheaval of their parent’s divorce, D and J always knew that they would be housed and cared for. The point I’m trying to make is that when you are brought up by parents who lived in an atmosphere of doing whatever it took to survive and preserve your family, your outlook might be a bit more abrasive. Too bad that hasn’t smoothed out a bit more with the C’s.
The C’s aren’t my favourites by a long shot, but I wish them well. What I wonder about is will Peta give up her great career to become part of the family machine?
Yeah, I’m over the whole “immigrant” excuse – Maks has lived in the US since he was what? TWELVE?? So, he’s lived here for the vast majority of his life and certainly his whole adult life. So, spare me.
And Derek and Julianne? One of the reasons they went to London at very young ages was because their home life was NOT happy. Their parents were going through a divorce – and you’re insane if you think that children still feel secure in that situation. Derek got kicked out of something like three or four schools for fighting. So, they went to London to train with Shirley and Corky. Some people look at them and see perfection – but perhaps that is what you see because they’ve never used their issues in youth (like being hung upside down from a tree with a gun to your head) as a reason to grow up to be complete assholes. It’s really easy to sit back and compare pasts – but it’s also really clear that two people don’t let the issues of their past define them in a negative way and perhaps there are two others who do.
PH, the second half of your last sentence made my point better than I did! Thanks! As a child of divorce myself I understand a bit of what D and J went through. But they, and I, always knew we would have the basics (food, clothes and housing) if not the emotional stability, without ratting out the neighbors to get it. I was simply trying to point out a possible reason why their parents instilled in them that sense of suspecting everyone’s motives that they seem to have. They need to lose it, the sooner the better.
You seemed to be excusing their behavior, Candace – that’s what I’m arguing about. It’s a ridiculous excuse at this point.
Just trying to understand why they are the way they are. Definitely not excusing them. That’s why I said they need to lose the attitude, and I hope Peta doesn’t buy into it. She’s too nice to go down that road.
If the argument is that Derek and Julianne had a more secure/dependable childhood than Maks and Val, how is it that the Houghs wound up with a strong sense of humility and the Chmers didn’t? It also doesn’t make sense for parents to put both of their sons in dancing if “survival” is a prominent concern. And notwithstanding whatever precariousness they’ve experienced, they’ve nonetheless managed to develop out-sized egos.
For any “Knots Landing” fans out there, this discussion brings to mind the scene where Lilimae (Julie Harris) confronts her son (Alec Baldwin) on the roof, and when Alec starts reciting the unfortunate events of his life as an explanation/excuse for his behavior, she screams “I don’t care any more!!”
You might want to try a different tactic – starting with Derek and Julianne, then leading into Maks/Val not only sounds like you’re excusing them, but making it sound like Derek and Julianne had it so much better and THAT’s why they’re not assholes.
@Vogue, I agree with you that Maks looks in shape. As someone who has had 4 knee surgeries (2 on each) and both shoulders, it takes its toll on the body and I’m just a middle aged mom! That’s all I meant, I know he’s had knee problems but maybe he’ll do less dancing. Yes he seems happy with Peta and I hope that continues for both. If I were them though I would be concerned with the ticket prices based on their Sway shows which were packed wth DWTS pros, Zendaya, Meryl and Rumer. Yes they have lots of fans but many comments I’ve seen say ppl can’t afford those prices. Now if they throw in Peta and possibly Sharna? That might be a bigger draw. It’s a huge undertaking for them so I hope they are successful because if not I can’t imagine what is really left for Maks since it appears acting didn’t work out. Unless he gets a DWTS judge position I think he’ll pretty much just be running his studios and making appearances.
Suzy….awww you bring back memories. I loved Knots Landing! I watched that show every week (like Dallas!).
Good point, Liz. I forgot how Maks has a bad knee….and if I remember right, he’s had surgery on one of his feet too.
And I couldn’t agree more on the prices. Even with Peta and Sharna, the VIP tickets are too high.
It’ so laughable though. Derek is probably the most pc pro, even if he knows that the C-Bros are going on tour and thinks that it’s like Move he would NEVER EVER say that since that’s just not the way he handles things. A good example is the group rehearsal with Hope and Maks where Maks lost his temper with Hope. Derek and Cheryl were shoked but never said anything against Maks they just took over and helped Hope.
Val on the other hand is always ready to attack. He and the Fam constantly brought up Riker’s dance experience and how unfair it was for poor Rumer to compete against him and Nastia. But it wasn’t unfair for Amy to compete against Meryl, or for Kellie to compete against Zendaya and Aly Riseman. I’ve never heard Derek bringing up other celebs’ dance experience. And the whole “Nastia is so pefect she’s uniteresting” comment by Val. The last time Derek said anything critical aginst fellow celebs or dancers was in S6 when he was defending Shannon after the Rumba and they apologized for it the week after.
It takes a long time to get going in acting. I wouldn’t say it’s over for him just yet. He doesn’t have the acting training that Derek, Mark and Julianne have – I just hope he realizes that he’s not going to jump into a major leading role the first few times out.
Yes, Geri, and Derek was much younger at the time than Val is now. They are the epitome of hypocrites. Their faces are next to that word in the dictionary. 😀
I remember reading somewhere a few years ago that Maks wanted to get into Broadway. Only he didn’t want to dance or sing in musicals… he wanted to do PLAYS! HA! If only he knew that professional theatre actors who do plays are some of the best actors in the world! I watched a few of his scenes on General Hospital and could barely understand a word he said and he looked as if he was reading his lines off a piece of paper. Hate to break it to you Maks, but you’re going to have to put in a LOT of work if you want to become a Theatre actor, let alone one on TV regularly.
Princess Heidi, totally agree. I think Maks needs major vocal coaching and acting classes. I honestly don’t see there is that much acting talent even with help. I see him more like typecast for a Russian role. Honestly the most amusing I’ve found Maks is when he drops the pretense, lightens up and enjoys himself in an interview. I think he could do well in a panel like show like The View, etc. something unscripted (ok he does have foot/thigh in mouth disease.) Something light and fun to bring out that side of him.
It interests me that these two are clearly using women that look like they haven’t danced a day of ballroom in their lives (with the exception of that one that was on SYTYCD for about 5 minutes). I clearly remember them very vocally claiming to be ‘ballroom purists’ many times before and virtually side-eyeing non-ballroom dancers faking their way through it. I guess they’ve decided that doesn’t apply when they choose to do their own tour.
