Donald Trump is wishing his second wife Marla Maples well as she competes on Season 22 of Dancing with the Stars.
“I think it is wonderful. I am very happy for her and think she will do very well,” Trump, 69, says in a statement to PEOPLE.
Before he was a 2016 presidential candidate, the real estate mogul and Maples, 52, were married for six years. They split in 1999 and are parents to 22-year-old daughter Tiffany.

Good for Donald. I’ve heard he gets a long with all of his ex wives. I’m not a hater of him in the least and I look forward to seeing Marla dance and seeing Tiffany in the audience.

I was worried that he would find a way to insult her but glad he did not. Did not k ow about their daughter. I only thought he had the older one, ivanka, the blonde one, and the young kid.
Nice words by Trump. Hoping this season the producers resist the urge to make Marla’s coverage too much about Donald. Obviously, that’s a part of her story, but I hope it’s not all that’s talked about all the time. That would get tedious.

I hope Marla does well as she seems to be a nice lady. The only downside if she wins will be Trump taking some credit for it. He is notorious for claiming he’s had a hand in the success of anyone who’s even minimally come in contact with him. He is always civil with his exes as long as he perceives no slights from them. If Marla wins I hope she can solely own her success as she alone would have earned it.
Kim, I don’t think we have to worry about Marla winning and Trump trying to siphon off some credit for it. I hope Marla does well for herself too, but the chances of her hoisting the MBT are slim to none. Making it to mid-season would be a good accomplishment for her, in my opinion.
I don’t have an issue with Marla at all but man, I just cannot stand Donald Trump, either if what he said was nice.
but I must say, the timing of her coming on the show is definitely not a coincidence, I just hope we can hear about her more than we hear about Donald every week in her packages
Sorry, California Kim, but, I don’t think Trump will claim he’s responsible if Marla wins. I think you are taking your hatred just a little too far. Like Cids, I don’t think you need to worry on her winning anyway.
Love him or Hate him I would prefer NOT want to hear about Trump every week just because he has a connection to both Marla AND Geraldo. This is THEIR journey let’s please keep it way. Wishful thinking but still it would be nice to have a safe haven from the political debates. Hopefully Marla and Geraldo can avoid the drama that will no doubt surround them.
I don’t care enough about him to hate him or anyone for that matter. I watched him for many years and was basing my opinion on how he has reacted over the years to things of a similar nature. It’s too bad you have characterized it has hate because neither the words or intent was there.
I think California Kim is probably right about Trump, actually. The man takes credit for EVERYTHING. He’s quite out of control.
I’m sorry, California Kim and Heidi, I’m just getting bent a little on all of the sensationalizing going on. I know this is the political season and we all have our political affiliations and our favorites, but, I see the candidates as all “out of control” in some way. And Kim, I’ve been watching Trump for a long time too and I’ve never seen him credit himself for every positive thing his wives have done. In fact, he never talks on his other wives except for Melania right now. And I’ve only heard him say how proud of his kids are like any parent would. I think while some go on about Trump, you need to remember that not everyone feels that way and some of the people here who are commenting and supporting this site might feel that way too. A lot of people are supporting him faults and all (just like we all have and like the other candidates do too) because they feel he can help this country. Ok, lol….that’s my last word on this. I promise. lol
Honestly, if it were up to me – I’d just put a moratorium on talking about Trump after this, period. Good or bad. Because he’s such a lightening rod right now, and really, besides the fact that he’s Marla’s ex – he really has nothing to do with DWTS.

I will join in the moratorium of not mentioning Trump as not to upset anyone which is never my intention. 99.9% of what I say on this site is pure tomfoolery. Thank you to PH for not leaving me alone in left field. I know how hard it is to express a different opinion from your friends. I like Courtney’s moratorium idea. Politics and religion shouldn’t be discussed. Fine if you want to tweet but I like that people (99%) here on this site are kind and respectful. Sadly for Marla, Rob will likely not be able to control himself especially when Tiffany is in the audience which would be sad because I think Marla and Tony look fun and I just want her to have a great journey. And she should be able to have Tiffany come and watch without the political nonsense. I, for one, will refrain from making any political comments on here and respect other’s views. I think I may actually like Tony this season and hope he ups his choreography for her. They seem like good friends so there’s a connection, she’s very pretty and I hope her journey is about her.
I think Marla has probably had a lot of experience deflecting over the years, plus I think she genuinely moved on years and years ago. Geraldo, on the other hand, is a different story. I think he might be more susceptible to machinations to bring politics onto the dance floor.
I’m sorry, I do agree with Courtney that we shouldn’t discuss it, but I’m going to have to say one more thing: claiming that all the candidates are “out of control” is a rather large false equivalency. I see the R’s trying to match The Donald vulgarity for vulgarity, sure – but old Donald has dragged political discourse in this country to a new, and very disturbing low. He is *dangerous* for this country. He doesn’t like what Megan Kelly says, so he implies she’s on her period (silly women, so emotional when “that” happens) – point to another candidate who has said such a thing. He was talking the other day about the size of his penis in response to Marco talking about his “small hands” – these are people who want to be PRESIDENT of the US. My god. I could go on and on and on and ON. His rallys are VIOLENT. Protesters are pushed to the ground and spit on and attacked. These things are not the “sensationalizing” of people here or even in the media – all you have to do is watch the videos. Now, the media HELPED early on, by giving him so much press coverage – but he got the press coverage because he IS sensational. Intentionally, I suspect.
I have been heavily involved in politics watching for YEARS, and I’ve never seen anything as frightening as this. Unfortunately, that isn’t “sensationalizing” – that’s a rational response to threat.

Let’s not forget the media are the drama queen of all. Why do you think the Kardasians are so popular? Media coverage are on them all the time. Sometimes I have to scratch my head especially when I saw something like “Kylie Jenner lip challenge” trending on FB. Crazy.
Trump is my least concern on DWTS. I’m just hoping Keo, Sharna and Val won’t make it all the way to final (and with my luck, they probably will lol). I like Jodie, Ginger and Antonio but their pros annoys me. Keo shouldn’t bury himself into the whole Fam thing. Sharna and Val are like two peas in a pod as far as attitude. I will watch the first episode but as soon as they show any sign of pimping to any of those 3, I’m done. I’ll watch on YouTube and come here to read the blog.
I am glad Marla and Tony are friends, as there will be a comfort level for her. Please let it be about MARLA’S journey and how proud her daughter is of her.
I’m all for leaving all political discussions outside this space! I’m desperate for a haven from the 24-7 presidential campaign. There are plenty of other forums where folks who want to debate presidential politics can do so. We’ll have more than our share of drama and contentious discussion here on purely DWTS issues.

I won’t bring politics into this any more except to say – AMEN PH – and that if we could do without talking about Donald Trump a little bit, I’d be very grateful because I am so disgusted by it all that I just don’t want to ruin this awesome site by sullying it with too much negativity.
That being said, I do not at all trust TPTB to NOT milk the Trump aspect for all it is worth – look at the saturation of Bruce and Demi we saw during Rumer’s season. My only hope is that Marla puts a lid on it after a point and we can get to know her as her own person, without the cloud of Donald hanging over everything. If not, I hope she’s eliminated early (alhough something tells me that’s wishful thinking).
Honestly, I don’t think we have to worry about Trump himself being there. He’s going to get the nomination and that should keep him very busy. And really, good relationship or not – they are EXes. It would be a bit weird for him to show up.
I do expect some Bergeron wise cracks though. 🙂
FWIW, Fig, I actually see Marla being a pretty early out – so hopefully that would put the kibosh on any Trump talk.
While I agree that Trump himself likely won’t be there, and all signs point to Marla being a relatively early elimination, part of me fears that the same fervent Trump supporters will salivate at any mention of anything related to him and turn that into votes and too much exposure of Marla (even though she’s an ex, it’s still how most people will associate her), to the detriment of other couples.
I’ll try to remain positive and hope that it’s not the case, or that if it is, it’s also a result of her being likable or a good dancer and not just some weird political statement by his fans.

I’m old enough to remember Marla Maples, the Other Woman. And Even, Marla Maples, Girlfriend who will never sign a pre-nup. But as she said, she was rather young when she met Donald Trump. Marla seems to have matured very well. She’s both beautiful and very poised so far. I have no doubt that she’ll get a lot of coverage and I also don’t doubt that TPTB and Tony will love that!
I, for one, am looking forward to seeing this gorgeous, poised, 50+ year old woman dance with her handsome partner. Tony likes her and seems happy. I hope that translates to some good dancing! As for fans voting for or against her based on their feelings for The Donald, I can see that going either way. If she has public social media sites, I expect they’ll blow up with passionate fools on both sides. I just don’t know enough to predict whether her tangential connection to a political candidate will effect her “power ranking.” And if she ends up with a fanatical voting base like Bristol Palin, that will be interesting in it’s own way. Especially this season since the NFL players have already pushed activate on theirs before week 1!
If political stuff is on here all season I will not enjoy being here. Marla Maples is Living in the future not the past and that’s were her past should stay. She has entered in a dance contest on this reality TV show and she should be seen as that and nothing more. Gosh the season hasn’t even started yet.
