Dancing with the Stars Season 22, Week 1 – Live Blog!!

Here we are again! Very curious now to see how this season goes, after Rob’s interview that Vogue posted yesterday. Very high “ugh” potential. I’ll be okay with him if he brings back more pro dances. Otherwise, I suspect he will be on my s#!t list. Seriously, though, I’ve been working on these new pages for PureDerekHough.com and I just watched all the dances for season 7 and there were pro dances EVERY week. Derek was in SIX pro dances that season. Now, we’re lucky if we get one bump and grind from the women cuz Mandy Moore. Yeah, without a results show there is no way we can have THAT many pro dances, but I bet he could cut the drama and squeeze one in. :::sigh:::

Okay, watch out for Kim. That was great and she has personality for miles. I don’t think she’s going anywhere fast. Week 2 is the real test, of course.

Paige is just gorgeous and cute and fun – great dance!! I loved it!! Good posture, good feet, tiny bit unsteady in a few parts – but damn. We got us a competition!!

Doug started out a little stiff, but he’s so adorable. He was clearly having a great time and I loved his faces. πŸ™‚ Paso Doble in week 2?? Um. Okay. So are we using dances as the new anti-pimping??

Wow, they did Jodie no favors with the running order. Heh.

Wow. Jodie knocked it out of the park! Great, great tango. I thought Keo did a good job with the choreography…I do wish I could have seen what Derek could do with that song. Keo doesn’t choreograph to the music the same way that Derek and Mark do and I don’t realize I miss it until I see a great dance with great music, but just a tiny bit missing.

CAI, you should be impressed…but she has experience. But you thought her face took away from her lines? Oh, wait…young attractive woman who can dance. I suspect this won’t be the last time she’s overly critical.

A SIX?!?!? Are you KIDDING ME??? Jaysus.

Bye Geraldo. Bye Edyta. I’m sorry. I don’t think in this season you’re going to last long.

Wow…Marla! She did very well and not as timid as I had heard. I did see the mess ups that CAI mentioned, but over all she did a very good job. I’ll be very curious to see how all these good dancers hold up in week 2. I suspect there will be a lot of normalization. πŸ™‚

OMG!!!! WANYA!! I love you, you are so awesome. That was FAN-tastic! Just amazing. And I gotta say, Sharna and Witney best watch their backs – Lindsay just kicked the ass of the Cha Cha. There’s a new choreographer in this game, folks.

Now who the hell am I going to vote for?? I got lots of favorites right now. But Wanya had me smiling from the first second. That was great.

Z-pack. Awwwww… LEN! You douchbag!!

Ginger has to follow Wanya?? Don’t envy that!

Ginger dances with Val and suddenly I feel like I’m watching a different show from the judges, no surprise. Seriously, in typical C-bro fashion, they took FOREVER to get started on the actual dancing. WTH, and no one calls them on it. And the comparison to Bindi is just absolute rubbish. The pimping was over the top here. Ginger is a lovely woman, and she seems very nice – but Val let her down big time with the choreo.

Sorry, that was an all 7 dance – it didn’t even come close to Wanya.

Len, your comments on Night 1 are uncalled for – especially after the ass licking that you just gave Ginger, who didn’t dance for the first several bars. That said…was it a good dance? No, it wasn’t. But the girl is not a woman with dance experience, unlike Ginger, Jodie and Paige. And she’s not a performer, she’s an actress. She’s going to have trouble with the audience as well, because that wasn’t the most favorable edit. It wasn’t good for Artem either, honestly. That kind of critique on someone I’m not even a fan of makes me sad and angry.

That. Was. Amazing. Nyle and Peta. Watch out folks, Nyle could win this thing if they keep dancing like that. They schooled Val on choreo, they had chemistry, he danced better than many of the hearing contestants. I am SO IMPRESSED, Peta!! Welcome to the cool choreographers club – now keep it up and don’t resort to the sexy. Dude can DANCE.

Hmmm…Sharna broke hold WAY too early on that quickstep and it was quite sloppy. The choreo wasn’t particularly inspired, IMO. Good dancer, but far from the best of the night. I predict right now that Antonio and Von are going to trade the lead in a faux competition.

Sorry, Sharna, I think Len was way closer to right than CAI was.

I have a feeling I’m going to prefer Von although I’m not much of a Witney fan. That dance had some odd moments, but that was mainly due to the music I think. Not really foxtrot music. Wait…”not really”?? Not at all, actually πŸ™‚

At the end of the show, I’m liking Kim, Paige, Nyle and Wanya a bunch. Jodie and Ginger are nice ladies who I like, but I think their pros let them down just a bit, Val more than Keo. While I am not currently big fans, I think both Von and Antonio have room to grow and could take over the competition. The lower end of the spectrum are Mischa, Geraldo, Marla and Doug….and I think that’s the order they will be eliminated it. Well, no – Geraldo first, Mischa second.

That’s all for tonight, folks, see you in the comments.

Jodie Sweetin Writes On DWTS Week 1, Keo Motsepe, And Her First Dance

Jodie Sweetin has written a blog for People. She’s so glad to have Keo Motsepe as a partner on Dancing With The Stars. She writes all about him and their first dance.

I have some more dance experience than Keo’s past partners, and he is definitely taking advantage of that. But just because I am a little more familiar with the terminology and have a little rhythm doesn’t mean that the ballroom style has come easily to me.

Our first dance is the tango, which is super complex. Keo says a lot of teams use the first week to show off personalities and showmanship, but we are also pushing ourselves to do a difficult routine that can show off technique as well.

When I first started thinking about the live shows, I was really nervous about forgetting choreography. But now I feel like we’ve rehearsed so much that the moves have become second nature. With that fear out of my mind, I’m excited to feed off the energy of the live audience and give them a great show.

More at People.

Dancing With The Stars Nyle DiMarco Gets Stitches After Rehearsal Accident

If you head to US Weekly, you can see a Dancing With The Stars rehearsal video with Nyle DiMarco and Peta Murgatroyd. Apparently, Nyle needed stitches after Peta Murgatroyd accidently clipped his face. Looks like he will be ok. A “full contact sport” indeed….

“Oh, my God,” says Murgatroyd, who nabbed the Mirrorball Trophy with Donald Driver in season 14. “I’m so sorry. I have never hit anyone that badly in my whole life.

Later, the hunky model (who is Deaf) returns from the hospital and tells the camera through an interpreter, “So I just left the hospital. I had to get four stitches on my left eyebrow. I definitely realized today that dancing is definitely a full-contact sport β€” and I like it!”

Mischa Barton Blogs for People Magazine about Week 1 of DWTS Season 22

Nice, honest blog from Mischa. If she can show this type of vulnerability during the show, I may have to revise my initial thoughts on her chances. Here’s an excerpt from People, click the link to read the whole thing.

I’d gone to ballet classes when I was growing up, but all of a sudden I was working with a professional dancer who is an expert at all types of dance. Artem would show me a sequence and expect me to pick it up, but all I could do was start laughing because it was so overwhelming.

But Artem didn’t let up or take it easy on me, and I appreciate that. He can be tough and strict, but he’s never mean. I don’t mind that he’s a little hard on me because I know that means he’s taking this seriously just like I am. It’s nice to work with someone who is as committed to their career as I am.

But I also have to keep reminding myself that we can’t work ourselves too hard. We have really long days in the rehearsal studio, and I’ve had to work on taking more breaks because I’ll realize I haven’t eaten all day and I’m getting moody and hangry because of it.
