Mark Ballas And Paige VanZant Hoping To Go All The Way On Dancing With The Stars (New Interview)

Mark Ballas and Paige VanZant talked to Fox Sports about dancing on Dancing With The Stars. Mark has been wanting to get Paige to dance for several seasons. Right now, Paige is putting dancing first above fighting and everything else. She and Mark are hoping to make it to the finals (I hope they do too!).

With only a few weeks to go in the competition, VanZant and Ballas are coming into the home stretch where each dance could mean the difference between a championship and going home empty-handed.

Ballas has won the show twice previously, with Kristi Yamaguchi and Shawn Johnson, and he believes VanZant could be the key ingredient to championship No. 3.

“I think Paige definitely has what it takes,” Ballas said. “I’m going to give it 100,000 percent. I’ve been a champion twice, I’ve been in eight finals, and there’s been a couple of times where I felt like I was going to get it and I failed at the last hurdle. I feel like Paige and I definitely have what it takes.”

As for VanZant, just like in her fighting career, she’s never been cocky or overconfident when making predictions, but she would love to go back to the UFC after winning a “Dancing with the Stars” trophy.

“I would love to be in the finals. I would love to get there,” VanZant said. “I definitely want to make an impact on the UFC and on MMA. Now that I’ve been on the show, I’ve created some really great relationships with the other celebrities so when someone is eliminated, I don’t want anyone to go home because I love everybody. It’s unfortunate when anyone goes home but I don’t want my name called. Of course, I want to win.”

Over the course of the show, VanZant and Ballas have bridged the gap from teammates to become great friends and even the UFC strawweight’s manager feels like he’s become part of the family over the last six weeks they’ve been training together for the show.

“I think they have a great partnership,” VanZant’s manager Mike Roberts said. “Mark has been a great teacher, and Paige has been a great student as well. Paige is full of great ideas, and Mark has been very receptive to them. He has been a true pleasure to work with from the start. I think going forward they will continue to get better and better, and Mark is now part of the MMA Inc family for life.”

The show has also become a litmus test for VanZant’s future because she’s always enjoyed the idea of exploring a world outside of fighting with possible gigs in acting or modeling after “Dancing with the Stars” is finished.

ETA: Below is Paige on Access Hollywood today too. Thanks Abby!

DWTS Nyle DiMarco Stars In Short Film About The Perceptions Of People With Disabilities

A non-profit organization Communication Service for the Deaf has released ‘Beyond Inclusion’ starring Nyle DiMarco. It’s aimed at inspiring a national conversation about the perceptions of people with disabilities. This makes you think about why we have to label being deaf (or anything else) a “disability”? Loving this message….

Dancing with the Stars Season 22, Week 6 – Dancing by the Numbers

Well, this is going to be a tough one, folks, cuz all the low hanging fruit is gone. And double eliminations are doubly difficult. Any number of people could be on the chopping block.

Those who don’t have to worry this week are likely Nyle and Wanya.  And I guess Antonio, as much as it pains me to say so.  Everyone else? Well, this will be the week where we find out (partially) who isn’t getting the votes.  Here are the scores and percentages:

DWTS 22 Wk 6 Table 1

I’ve seen people on twitter using the typical hyperbole and they really don’t know what they’re talking about. “Ooooo…the scores are so tight it could be anyone.” Well, that’s not really true.  “We will probably get a shocking elimination.”  Yeah, that’s ONLY true if you’re a neophyte who has never seen this show before and you just came out of your cave in a loincloth. The ONLY truly shocking elimination this coming Monday would be either Wanya or Nyle.  No one else really qualifies…not even Antonio, really. I would be somewhat shocked, I guess, just because of his fanbase, but really shocked? Nah. It’s a double elimination and he’s widely been rumored to be a d*ck, so there you go.  Don’t think we’ll get that lucky though. 🙂

So why is the “It could be anyone” crowd wrong? Well, see below. Read more..

I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. And I'm cynical and jaded too. But I do love DWTS. :-)

Former Dancing With The Stars Pro Chelsie Hightower Shares Her Story

What a cool read on former Dancing With The Stars Pro Chelsie Hightower from the Desert News on how her dancing story began. Here are a couple of takes from the link. I wish they’d ask her back to do Dancing With The Stars.

While I am admittedly biased one year later, I wasn’t then. I was not a fan of “Dancing With the Stars,” and I didn’t know she had also been on Fox’s “So You Think You Can Dance.”

Two weeks after our first visit, she hosted a ward activity in her home on a Sunday night.

She and I talked for two hours afterward and have been friends ever since. I listened that night as she talked about realizing that she couldn’t handle the demands of her career on her own and how she came to understand that the Savior’s “yoke is easy” and his “burden is light,” as it says in Matthew 11:30.

Hightower’s dance career began when she was 9 and her family moved into the boundaries of the only elementary school in the United States with a ballroom dance program.

“I think I realized at a young age … that I was meant to be in that ballroom program, and I was meant to find dance,” Hightower said. “I felt like … the Lord was opening doors for me and guiding my path, and I’ve felt like dance was a part of that path since I was 9 years old.”

With the transition to Los Angeles and the pressure of the show, she found herself having anxiety and panic attacks, but she poured herself into dance.

During her time on “Dancing With the Stars,” she was nominated for an Emmy. She coached world champion rodeo cowboy Ty Murray to a fourth-place finish during her first season, and singer-songwriter Micheal Bolton called her “his light” during their time as partners on the show in 2010. She remembers these friendships as the most rewarding part of the experience.

Still, she knew where her strength came from.
