Sharna Burgess Writes On Last Night’s Dances On DWTS, Freestyle Idea If They Make It To The Finals

Sharna Burgess has written a new blog at Extra. She writes of last night’s dances and how hard Antonio worked. She also mentioned on how shocked the cast was to hear about a “double elimination”. She’s hoping she and Antonio make it to the finals because she has an “amazing idea” in mind for a freestyle. More below….

I can’t believe it, we are in the semi-finals! Antonio and I had our best night ever! Throughout the week, I could see how dedicated Antonio was to taking it all the way. He was turning up early for rehearsal and he wanted to stay late. We were working until one or two o’clock in the morning this week because Antonio wanted to push himself harder than he ever has before. All of that hard work completely paid off tonight. He glided across the floor in our Viennese waltz with a beautiful frame. We had a beautiful chemistry and connection and he really embodied the character of that Viennese waltz.

Then, cut to the complete opposite with our team dance with Paige and Mark, where he became a strong, dominant beast who not only danced brilliantly, but also took care of Paige in what is a very complicated and difficult lift to do. I could not have been more proud of Antonio and Paige in that number. It was incredibly stressful to put together with very minimal time and the only reason that number was as phenomenal as it was, was because of what those two brought to it.

Headed into next week, we had a bomb dropped on us tonight, and that is that it will be double elimination! None of us saw that coming, and it really is quite frightening because we have absolutely no control. The dancing has already been done and the decision will be made next week. I truly hope that AB and I get to go all the way to the final because I have the most amazing idea for freestyle that is a tribute to the Steeler Nation from Antonio saying thank you for everything they have given him. I really want to create that piece, not just for Antonio but for Pittsburgh and for the Steelers!

More at Extra.

Emma Slater Writes On DWTS Season 22 Week 8 – Her Favorites And More

Emma Slater has write a new blog at Hollywood Life. Like so many of us, she’s rooting for Wanya and Lindsay. More below and at the link.

I really enjoyed the concept of last night’s show. The judges’ team dances definitely went down well for me. Bruno’s dance in particular caused a stir of conversation in the room where I watched it! Once again, the producers and the professional dancers (and I include the troupe in that) have shown expert innovation this season with an unparalleled level of brilliance.

Nobody is settling for “standard” anymore on DWTS. Everyone is pushing the boundaries with unique ideas and concepts. Wow, I’ve just noticed that I truly loved everyone’s dance tonight! At this point in the season, the routines and celebs have gotten so good that each performance is highly enjoyable and has its own great quality. It’s just down to personal preference. I’ll share with you now the couple I’m rooting for this season.

First off, Happy belated Mother’s Day to all you beautiful mums out there! We all owe you literally our lives — I love you mum! Second off Happy Birthday to Sasha! He turned 33 years young though he might as well be 18 because he certainly has the energy of a teenager. Tonight, I flew back from Vegas early after filming a music video just to surprise him with a MASSIVE chocolate cake (see my Instagram!) So I think he’s happy enough. That’s what everyone wants for a 33rd birthday, right?!

Here’s my thoughts on tonight:

I’m rooting for Wanya and Lindsay, because I get the most enjoyment watching them together, over any other couple. I think they are matched together perfectly and Wanya is an incredible dancer. You can’t deny it. The man has skill, and he’s got the will. I always love their temperament which goes a long way because let’s face it, we vote with our hearts first and our phones second.

PureDWTS Season 22, Week 8 – Power Rankings

*shaking head* Still trying to reconcile the fact that Ginger is getting heaped with praise and given perfect scores, when her dances are about as exciting to me as watching paint dry/water boil/grass grow/British Parliamentary proceedings/etc. Yes, I know she’s a company gal; but I still don’t really understand what the benefit would be to DWTS to push her as hard as they have been. Are they changing narratives in the 11th hour, and gunning for a 2nd MBT for Val after all? Are they trying to keep the GMA casting pool fruitful for future seasons? Is this image rehab for Val the social media sociopath? Or was last night just part of the ruse – that maybe Ginger isn’t finale bound after all, and they were just giving her a nice send-off? My head spins trying to make sense of it. The grim reality is, though, that tonight’s tongue bath of Ginger may have dashed our hopes of a Nyle/Wanya/Paige finale – and we may see one of those three heading home in next week’s double elim instead of advancing to the finale, despite the fact that those 3 have been the most consistent and entertaining this season.  Buckle in, kids – next week is probably going to hurt.

I love how they touted the Judge’s Challenge (or whatever the hell they were calling it) as a “brand new dance” – bitch please, that was just a combo of the dance duels from season 18, the judge’s challenge from season 20, and the “America scores” fiasco from season 21. Three shitshows rolled into one, for your viewing pleasure.  The scores ended up being a complete cop-out, though, with each dance receiving the same score – and while I saw a lot of folks up in arms about it, I have to say I was a tad relieved; I don’t think any of the 3 dances really passed muster, and each had their own set of faults to contend with.  But giving them all the same score does two things: it makes the margins much closer, so it’s easier for someone at the bottom of the leaderboard (read: WANYA) to claw their way outta the bottom two; and it basically just throws it back to the fans…he or she with the most votes, advances, with slightly less power given to potentially skewed judges’ scores.  The judges’ dance didn’t really help anyone (except maybe Wanya, in a roundabout kinda way), but it also didn’t really hurt anyone, either. It’s pretty much all on the fans, at this point – the second dance just leveled the playing field a bit.

As for Jodie – she had a good run, and she went out on a high note; Keo probably grew more in this season than he has in all 3 of his previous seasons combined.  I’d call that a win for both, and for what it’s worth, Jodie actually seemed a tad relieved to be heading home.  I think she had wanted to do the show for quite some time, and unfortunately she got cast on a season where the competition was unusually fierce.  On a more “normal” season, I think she would have EASILY made the finale; but I think the pressure really got to her this season, both in terms of trying to do well and trying to emotionally support her partner.  And hey, it dovetailed nicely into her starting filming for season 2 of Fuller House today 🙂 And also for what it’s worth – I think Keo ended up being the right kind of partner for her.  I think she was too emotionally fragile to deal with a critic like Val or an Artem week after week, she was too tall for Sasha, and I can’t imagine anyone else partnering Paige than Mark.  It worked out, and hopefully Keo can come back next season as a more seasoned pro. Dancing with the Stars Season 22, Week 9 – Who’s Dancing What…and When?

Well, prepare for me to be pissed off the remainder of the season. 🙂 They’ve overscored Ginger and Antonio to the point that the people who have been consistently performing all season long may not make it to the finale along with Nyle. One bad dance shouldn’t take out a man who’s been out performing both Ginger and Antonio for WEEKS now. My numbers post will likely be bitter. 🙂

I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. And I'm cynical and jaded too. But I do love DWTS. :-)

PureDWTS Season 22 Week 8 Media, Scores, And Interviews After The Dances

What a great night of dancing. I loved all the dances in different ways again! Also, the Judges Team dances are now one of my favorites. Incredible! More on that in Courtney’s new Power Ranking post coming up. 😉 As for Keo and Jodie’s elimination, it was was sad, but, I’m always going to remember her for her great drive and will to do well. I always loved her facial expressions and how she got into each character from the beginning. I loved their P!nk dance the most from them all.

So, let’s review the scores again for starters….

Jodie Sweetin & Keo Motsepe (Jive) 10-10-10 for a total of 30. (eliminated)
Ginger Zee & Valentin Chmerkovskiy (Argentine Tango) 10-10-10 for a Total of 30.
Nyle DiMarco & Peta Murgatroyd (Paso) 10-9-10 for a Total of 29.
Paige VanZant & Mark Ballas (Viennese Waltz) 10-9-9 for a Total of 28.
Antonio Brown & Sharna Burgess (Viennese Waltz) 9-9-9 for a Total of 27.
Wanya Morris & Lindsay Arnold (Jive) 8-8-9 for a Total of 25.

Team Results
Team Bruno: Nyle & Peta and Jodie & Keo (Argentine Tango) 10-10 and a 9 from America for a Total of 29.
Team Len: Ginger & Val and Wanya & Lindsay (Samba) 10-10 and a 9 from America for a Total of 29.
Team Carrie Ann: Paige & Mark and Antonio & Sharna (Paso) 10-10 and a 9 from America for a Total of 29.

On to some media! First, read ABC7 for a recap and photos. People has some highlights and quotes as well from a few of the couples. WTAE has a recap of Team Boomin’ here. They also have an interview with Hines Ward at this link. Hines is enjoying watching Antonio grow every week. I think he has too.

Now for some interviews….
