Ginger Zee Injured Pelvis, Will Dance Monday Night On Dancing With The Stars
According to ABC, Ginger Zee hurt her pelvis last week. She still plans to dance on Dancing With The Stars. Below are more details. Let’s hope she’s going to be ok.
Dancing With The Stars” finalist Ginger Zee just suffered a setback ahead of the show’s finale.
The “Good Morning America” meteorologist injured her pelvis earlier this week during rehearsals for a contemporary routine with her professional partner, Val Chmerkovskiy.
Zee told ABC News that after feeling a “lower back spasm” at home that “takes your breath away,” she continued to rehearse.
“By Wednesday, I went to see a physical therapist for the show, Gina [Minchella], and she said my pelvis was forward and an inch off,” she continued. “I came back the next day, and [my pelvis] was backward and an inch the other way. My pelvis was just moving all over.”
“My pelvis is very loose and unstable…because I just had a baby,” Zee, 35, added.
In a preview of Monday’s episode, Zee is seen crying during physical therapy due to the pain.
“I was crying not just from pain but I was more fearful and more frustrated because at this point in the competition every single minute counts,” she explained, “especially for a non-dancer repetition is everything. It gives you confidence…and without the ability to do that, it’s scary.”
Minchella told ABC News that Zee was diagnosed with sacral instability along with a lumbar or lower back sprain.
“It can happen to any person,” Minchella said. “It happens a lot to women because our hormones play a huge role in the ligaments in our pelvis.”
“For someone who is dancing with extreme conditions from flips to lifts and one-legged turns and all that, this kind of thing can happen a lot faster,” she added.
Zee said despite her injury, she plans to take the ballroom floor on Monday night.
“It’s not like I’m taking a risk that I’m going to injure my back for the rest of my life,” she added of why she’s competing. “I’m planning to [perform,] so we’re going to do everything we can to rest.”

I don’t like to see anyone hurt, but it does NOT impress me when celebs put out press releases and babble online about their injuries and how brave they are to be dancing through the pain instead of just quietly getting on with the task at hand. Doing DWTS is grueling for all celebs (and the pros too). They’re all tired, sore and dealing with some injury or other. To me, this sounds like just another attempt by the GMA Weather Girl and the DWTS pimping machine to generate additional coverage for the ABC family memberto (a) give her an excuse for lackluster dancing and (b) generate pity votes from the easily influenced sheeple.
Sorry to hear this. I do hope Ginger and those advising her are right and that she’s in no danger of permanent injury.
And she throws in the comment about being a “non-dancer”. LOL – ppl never cease to amaze me.
I noticed that too PH! Seems scripted. I hope she doesn’t have any permanent damage.
Well this gets extremely tricky now since Val’s declaration that he is rooting for Nyle to win. There is a teeny tiny sweet spot where the malaise would explain lackluster dancing (needed to deflate their scores and help Nyle), but would not trigger any sympathy votes (you just don’t do that to the person you’re rooting for). Not sure this team is equipped for such an exacting performance. Maks will not be happy.
So, she’s still sticking with the official ABC line of “non-dancer”. Having dance experience, as long as it’s not ballroom doesn’t bother me, but covering it up while emphasizing others sucks!
I just read an article on People that Jenna is filling in for her for camera blocking and they won’t know until tomorrow if she will dance? A different tone than this article…
Suzy, good point — they may NOT be going after the sympathy vote. This injury disclosure might be designed to give Ginger a graceful landing into 3rd place and give Val and Ginger cover for publicly throwing their support to Nyle and Peta. They can claim it’s only natural that Val (and his partner) would support his future sister-in-law since they can’t go full-out for the win themselves. Val’s lack of finesse probably won’t be a problem. Val and Ginger can just dance the same unremarkable performance they’ve been giving us all season, and let TPTB manipulate the sheeple’s response with the package, the scoring, and Erin’s Q&A.
Hope she get well. Btw, I’ve seen Antonio’s snapchat earlier today and think I saw her dancing to a Pitbull song, I’m guessing it’s from the opening number…
I’m actually surprised there haven’t been more injuries this season- its actually been a pretty healthy cast.
She’s clearly not my favorite, but it would be horrible if she put in all this work and not to be able to perform the last dances. Crossing my fingers for her.
Chase I certainly wish her no ill and hope she gets fully well. However, her apparent condoning of Val publicly supporting Nyle for the win makes me indifferent to whether performance is affected. She’s already sold herself out.
Wait im confused val and ginger are rooting for nyle when they themselves are in the finals? Thats not fair to throw all the votes that way super last minute for paige and mark! I feel really bad for ginger for her injury so late in the game though, I wouldnt perform with a messed up pelvis her poor body is telling her its too much and too freaking stop and let her rest! Its scenario tamar all over again.
This press release seems to me to just get sympathy votes and publicity. Typical CBros behavior. They just can’t win on choreo and dancing alone. Sorry. Have absolutely no sympathy for Ginger who is apparently a non-dancer.
Given that she missed camera blocking (a crucial time to rehearse) I do not think this is a publicity stunt. As for Val rooting for Nyle – I believe that came from the horribly edited Access Hollywood piece? It was clear to me AH were trying to make a case for Nyle the way they were editing people remarks including Paige’s.
If Ginger can’t dance can we get Wanya back or is it not politically correct to ask
Gee…guess she forgot her years on the Valpraiso Dance team…Nothing like leaving that little juicy tidpit out~
If Val actually said that they were rooting for Nyle to win when they are still in the competition and before Ginger’s injury, I believe,, I’d say the C brothers have reached a new low! The Fam need a win, so people will go to their show … disgusting, if true!
Meggie There is a post with a video of Access Hollywood interviews. He says it right out in that interview.
Thanks, Suzy! Why am I not surprised that this is true?!?
I clearly don’t want her hurt but this is probably a gracious way to take 3rd place. I can’t imagine this pair could possibly beat either Paige or Nyle. I really do worry for Paige, I have seen a lot of people up in arms over her dance training. TPTB decide to put that in Paige’s package just when she is peaking, while never a word about Ginger’s. I saw a review on the Yahoo page by Annie Barrett and most comments were against Paige and her “Years and years of Extensive Dance Training” saying how unfair it was. You group that together with the Fam now throwing all votes to Nyle and it really will make it difficult for her to win. I really hope she knocks it out of the park tonight. Paige deserves to win just as much as either of the other two. Here’s hoping for a Paige win and a nice birthday present for Mark!
This morning I tweeted to Ginger and abc that I came across Ginger’s Valparaiso Dance Team photos and wondered why she refers to herself as a non-dancer. Waiting for TPTB to be even-handed is like re-arranging the chairs on the deck of the Titanic.
Just to satisfy my own curiosity, I found the video. It’s highly edited (sound familiar). Val’s comment is being taken out of context. Obviously, both Ginger and Val were asked specifically about Nyle’s chances of winning. They seemed very genuine in their admiration and affection for Nyle as well as his being inspirational to everyone including competitors. They probably also realize that their winning is a longshot given the scores from last week and voter polls/predictions.
Realistically, Nyle and Peta are the ones to beat and everyone of the finalists seemed to acknowledge that. But the video ends with Nyle expressing his gratitude whatever happens.
That’s what I thought too, Juliana.
