PureDWTS Season 22, The Finale – Power Rankings

Man, I miss the good ol’ days, when the Monday nights on finale week were just jam-packed full of great dancing and everyone truly brought their A-game.  I think the last finale that really fit that bill for me was season 17 – when (pun intended) even Bill Engvall really shone.  Tonight was cumulatively one of the weakest we’ve ever had – I feel like 2/3 couples kinda hit a flat note.  And also, even more disappointingly, the judges’ & PTB’s agenda was in high gear tonight – some got the kid glove treatment, others were scrutinized a bit more.  And while I think that there is an obvious winner in this bunch, based on tonight’s performances – I think it could go either way amongst two finalists, given some of the propaganda we saw tonight.

Part of me thinks that we may lose Mark after this season, which is a crying shame, because he & Lindsay are the only pros left that even come close to Derek in terms of choreographic skill and are capable of possibly grabbing an Emmy nod for the show. But the vibe I got from Mark after he & Paige’s freestyle makes me wonder if we just witnessed his swan song – he’s never struck me as a terribly sentimental pro, but he got seriously weepy tonight. Is he maybe finally bidding farewell to DWTS to focus on his marriage & his music after this season? Ack…I don’t want to think about it.  He’s been one of the few bright spots of this season.

Not much else to add – thought Erin looked pretty matronly in that dress they threw her in, and I raised an eyebrow at how much time was spent emphasizing that ABC Golden Girl Ginger was suffering from back spasms.  *yawn* Gonna do things in reverse tonight, starting with 3rd place and ending with the winner… Read more..

Ultrasound sales specialist by day, semi-knowledgeable DWTS fan by night...with a smattering of hair & makeup enthusiast, occasional model, baker, and crazy cat lady peppered in to make things REALLY interesting ;-) I might pee my pants in happiness if Donnie Wahlberg ever does DWTS - or if they ever use "Sunglasses at Night" as a paso doble.

Dancing with the Stars Season 22, THE FINALE – Live Blog!! (Spoilers)

I am on the road and hopefully will be in my hotel room in time to watch the show…if not, Courtney will hopefully jump in. I can’t decide if me missing the show would be a good thing…or a bad thing. 🙂

T-minus 30 minutes…

I found out I can’t watch live, so Courtney will be at the helm this evening. Before I go, here’s the dance order per George Pennachio:

  1. Ginger
  2. Nyle
  3. Paige

Court reporting for duty 🙂 I’m currently trying to tweet, take notes for the power rankings, update this post, and make a gender reveal cake for a coworker.  Needless to say, I’m getting pretty adept at spreading myself too thin these days…thank god the show is only an hour tonight!

Erin looks kinda matronly in that dress tonight.  Really ages her.  I’m just kinda over Ginger, so none of this package is really resonating with me.

WHAT THE HELL DID I JUST WATCH???!!! What a bizarre, uninspired, un-cohesive mess.  It was like they did a half-assed freestyle (that was really just cherry-picked props and moves from other routines this season) and then decided to call it a contemporary.  And the judges are seriously gonna gush about how great it was?! Good god, I’m not sure I want to see what else is coming…

Pleasantly surprised that Carrie Ann & Bruno gave it 9’s (although I think that was even kind) while Len falls in line with the narrative and gives it a 10.  And I’ve already heard enough  about Ginger’s back spasms to last a lifetime.

Errrr…that was a pretty rough quickstep from Nyle.  Felt like he never got 100% on top of the beat, and was bouncing out of sync with Peta.  I really wish she had given him a better growth arc over the course of the season.

Paige just schooled both Ginger & Nyle on how to do a redemption dance. Mark also showed Peta & Val what a good choreographer can do.

Len’s critique is utter bullshit. Guess we know who he’s been instructed to prop up…*cough*GINGER*cough*…but 29/30 is still good.

Val, I’mma give you a piece of advice, free of charge: if you yourself do not know how to tap dance with any level of proficiency, DO NOT CHOREOGRAPH A FREESTYLE THAT HAS ANY LENGTH OF TAP DANCING IN IT!!!! That was almost comically bad to watch – Val flailing around doing a tap dance pantomime. The rest was pretty white bread, nothing remarkable. But it’ll prolly get a 30…

…and it does.  I guess the best we can hope for at this point is all 3 freestyles getting a perfect 30, and the judges tossing it to the audience. If they undeservingly shaft Paige, though, I’m guessing they’re reeeeallllly pushing hard for Ginger to win.

Not 100% sure how I felt about Nyle’s freestyle. He danced it well, but I feel like it’s just yet another angsty routine we’ve seen from him. Wish we could have seen something more fun, upbeat, and celebratory.

“Best dance on the show ever”, Carrie Ann? Bitch PLEASE. Go smoke some more crack.

Paige, PLEASE knock this outta the park…

…and she does 🙂 Just lovely.  Anyone else get the impression that we may have just witnessed Mark’s last freestyle on DWTS, though? I have never seen him get so emotional.

And now I’m stepping away for a bit, kids – look for the power rankings in a bit.  Also got a cake to finish.  Aaaaack.

I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. And I'm cynical and jaded too. But I do love DWTS. :-)

Paige VanZant Writes On Her Final Dances, A DWTS Promo From People

Paige VanZant has written a new blog at People. She gives us a little preview for tonight. Read on….

One of the dances Mark and I will be doing is our salsa routine, which is special because that was the routine he got injured doing in rehearsals and I had to dance with troupe member Alan Bersten instead. I’m so glad we get to finally do it together.

For our second dance, we’re doing a contemporary routine. I feel like I’ve opened up a bit about my struggles, and this emotional routine will kind of be the final chapter of my story of hardship. I want to show everyone that if you can push through the pain, you can have a bright future.

As I’ve opened up more and more, I think I’ve realized that as much as I’m here to do the best that I can and hopefully win, what’s most important is that I’ve gained a lot of confidence and I’ve grown so much as a person on this journey.

My DWTS experience has really empowered me to speak out and be vocal against bullying. It’s given me a good, new purpose in life.

More at People. Here’s a cute finale promo from People as well…

The People Magazine twitter account has been tweeting some teasers from “behind the scenes” of Dancing With The Stars. You can see them below. Be watching their twitter as they may post more. You can also see more with Ginger at People (online). She’s nervous, but ready to go tonight despite her injury.

“It’s finals day at Dancing with the Stars – so excited to be here,” Zee said in a video Monday shot exclusively for PEOPLE’s Twitter account. “I can’t believe it. I’m so grateful. But I’m also feeling a lot of nerves, of course. Just got my makeup done. We get that done super early and then they just touch it up throughout the day. I’m walking over to my trailer. I’ve gotta go see the physical therapist, get my hair done, and then we’ll have the first run-through.”

DWTS Paige VanZant Lands Role In “Kickboxer: Retaliation”

Give it up for Paige VanVant! After Dancing With The Stars, she will be heading to the big screen. Deadline reports she will be starring in “Kickboxer: Retaliation”.

Ultimate Fighting Championship’s Paige VanZant is heading out of the cage and onto the big screen for her feature debut. The UFC’s eighth-ranked Women’s Strawweight fighter and current Dancing With The Stars finalist contestant will be joining Kickboxer: Retaliation.

In the latest pic in the 1989 Jean-Claude Van Damme-originated Kickboxer franchise, VanZant will play Gamon, a 26-year-old with high-level fighting and shooting skills with some strong criminal connections too. The role was specifically written for VanZant after producers saw her on the ABC dancing competition show this season. “Paige is the up-and-coming darling of the UFC and her star quality shines through on camera,” producer Rob Hickman of Our House Films said in a statement. “She’s a tremendous asset to the film both as an onscreen talent and as a trainer fighter.”

More at Deadline.
