Dancing with the Stars Season 22, THE FINALE – Live Blog!! (Spoilers)
I am on the road and hopefully will be in my hotel room in time to watch the show…if not, Courtney will hopefully jump in. I can’t decide if me missing the show would be a good thing…or a bad thing. 🙂
T-minus 30 minutes…
I found out I can’t watch live, so Courtney will be at the helm this evening. Before I go, here’s the dance order per George Pennachio:
- Ginger
- Nyle
- Paige
Court reporting for duty 🙂 I’m currently trying to tweet, take notes for the power rankings, update this post, and make a gender reveal cake for a coworker. Needless to say, I’m getting pretty adept at spreading myself too thin these days…thank god the show is only an hour tonight!
Erin looks kinda matronly in that dress tonight. Really ages her. I’m just kinda over Ginger, so none of this package is really resonating with me.
WHAT THE HELL DID I JUST WATCH???!!! What a bizarre, uninspired, un-cohesive mess. It was like they did a half-assed freestyle (that was really just cherry-picked props and moves from other routines this season) and then decided to call it a contemporary. And the judges are seriously gonna gush about how great it was?! Good god, I’m not sure I want to see what else is coming…
Pleasantly surprised that Carrie Ann & Bruno gave it 9’s (although I think that was even kind) while Len falls in line with the narrative and gives it a 10. And I’ve already heard enough about Ginger’s back spasms to last a lifetime.
Errrr…that was a pretty rough quickstep from Nyle. Felt like he never got 100% on top of the beat, and was bouncing out of sync with Peta. I really wish she had given him a better growth arc over the course of the season.
Paige just schooled both Ginger & Nyle on how to do a redemption dance. Mark also showed Peta & Val what a good choreographer can do.
Len’s critique is utter bullshit. Guess we know who he’s been instructed to prop up…*cough*GINGER*cough*…but 29/30 is still good.
Val, I’mma give you a piece of advice, free of charge: if you yourself do not know how to tap dance with any level of proficiency, DO NOT CHOREOGRAPH A FREESTYLE THAT HAS ANY LENGTH OF TAP DANCING IN IT!!!! That was almost comically bad to watch – Val flailing around doing a tap dance pantomime. The rest was pretty white bread, nothing remarkable. But it’ll prolly get a 30…
…and it does. I guess the best we can hope for at this point is all 3 freestyles getting a perfect 30, and the judges tossing it to the audience. If they undeservingly shaft Paige, though, I’m guessing they’re reeeeallllly pushing hard for Ginger to win.
Not 100% sure how I felt about Nyle’s freestyle. He danced it well, but I feel like it’s just yet another angsty routine we’ve seen from him. Wish we could have seen something more fun, upbeat, and celebratory.
“Best dance on the show ever”, Carrie Ann? Bitch PLEASE. Go smoke some more crack.
Paige, PLEASE knock this outta the park…
…and she does 🙂 Just lovely. Anyone else get the impression that we may have just witnessed Mark’s last freestyle on DWTS, though? I have never seen him get so emotional.
And now I’m stepping away for a bit, kids – look for the power rankings in a bit. Also got a cake to finish. Aaaaack.
You must be screaming right now. Looking forward to Courtney’s take on things but will miss you Miss Heidi
Talk about a busy night lol. I can’t believe it’s the part one of the finale already. Feels like yesterday when the season started.
I just gave all my FB votes to Paige. Hope she and Mark can take it!
Hit submit too early: it’s only an hour? I thought it was two hours tonight….but then again if that means less talking from the judges tonight I’m ok with that lol (it’s not that they have annoyed me too much this season but I’m dreading the nit-picking when it comes to the freestyles more than anything else).
Ok so that opening shot with their faces projected on the floor. Amzing in my opinion. Then they brought out the finalists and surprise surprise we get shirtless Val and two pros that clearly put some thought into their costume choices. Anyways, the video package for ginger made me question if the judges had any say in dance style choice becuase it seems like it was ginger and Val’s choice. I feel bad for ginger I really do but honestly I’d not risk a spasm but to each their own I guess. The dance itself was definately interesting but it felt a little meh to me in the beginning and picked up when they hit the fountain. I’d give it a 9.
The opening of that contemporary looked strangely familiar to one danced by Travis wall on sytycd
Ginger and Val – IMO)it was nice but not 10 worthy. I could see one or two nines.
Val really needs to get some help when it comes to choreographing contemporary dances. That dance was just a mess. I had the same feeling watching it that I did the first time Ginger did a contemporary. Ginger doesn’t seem to be moving a whole lot.
If Val didn’t choreograph that dance, then he needs to stop listening to whoever choreographed that.
Wasn’t it supposed to be a jazz routine? Why did they change to contemporary?
Pimp to the max, I guess. #Urgh
Didn’t like that dance at all and I don’t understand the judges gushing all over it. It allowed Val to have his shirt open again, which he’ll probably do in their freestyle. And I’m sorry, I don’t have much sympathy for the back. Every one of the finalists I’m sure are in pain. Or is she doing this for votes? Val just said it shouldn’t be made a big deal so why was their whole package about it?
Well, it was better than the mess from Memorable Year week. Happy about Len’s 10, but can’t help but wonder what could’ve been if she was paired with a stronger choreographer
Ok so the video for nyle was good. Saying that, that was my least fav dance from him all season…..including his other quickstep which at least amused me. This just was very forgettable in my opinion. I would give that a 9 as well.
How can they only be seperated by 3%? Was that voting or combined with judge’s scores?
Courtney I so agree with about Ginger. Man I did not like that dance. If the bench section was hard on her back…why didn’t Val change it. I liked Nyles dance better. Oh and they are nitpicking him while leaving that mess of Ginger’s alone.
Why are the troupe in every routine? lol hahaha
I have so many questions for the show, right now. I’m confused as f.
I’m not watching live but from what everyone is saying wasn’t Ginger & Val dance supposed to be a Jazz, because I’m seeing Contempory everywhere?
Anyway just good luck to everybody
Paige and Mark had the best video of the bunch easily. The dance was a blast. I liked it better than her first salsa and I love that dance too so that’s saying a lot. I’d give that a 10.
PHENOMENAL DANCE FROM PAIGE AND MARK – ONE OF THE BEST OF THE SEASON
Hit submit too early: And as for Len….I’m baffled yet not surprised. He really is the one judge to really stick to a plan isn’t he.
SERIOUSLY LEN?? Not enough hip- action????? OMG…gotta follow the company line…GRR!
Nyle doesn’t impress me…he really hasn’t improved his technique. Boo!
Len has no credibility at all any more. He gives Ginger a 10 and that dance from Paige a 9???? He is losing his marbles. Voting and praying. Paige for the win. Please stop with Ginger’s back.
Bam!!! Paige and Mark nailed it. I think there’s something wrong with Len.
Ginger/Val: two words: simply meh
Nyle/Peta: cute western quickstep much more entertaining!!!!
Paige/Mark: upstanding and awesome: she is on fire!!!!
Can I jump on the wtf Len bandwagon. That dance was awesome for Mark and Paige. What could have better defined redemption. Mark did everything I expect from a pro during the finale and Paige stepped up and hit a homerun. They schooled every other pro this season except Lindsey and Sasha who I felt brought it.
Right. That was an extremely weak freestyle.
Now, I’m upset since we got that mediocre dance over something amazing from Wanya. I don’t see how it deserved a perfect 30 at all. Now I’m just hoping the judges don’t nitpick Nyle and Paige’s freestyle.
That Freestyle SUCKED! Too much messing about. And it wasn’t that special but of course it got a 30. Ginger is a Company gal and all.
I’m still pissed she made the Finals over Wanya…but whatever so long as SHE doesn’t WIN, I’ll be OK with either Nyle or Paige winning…NOT Ginger!
Ok so ginger and Val had a very cute freestyle. Kinda reminded me of an old movie with Bing Crosby and I think it was Sinatra in it too. Saying that, it was definately fun but overall am I going to remember this dance….no. The only way I can explain it is this: great song with lots of potential in the hands of a talented pro who didn’t get very creative with it.
WTF this Ginger freestyle. Pretty weak, if anyone really messes up, everybody will get 30s.
Ginger learned the hard way that you “can’t have all”. But she was the chosen child by ABC Execs so unless she cannot walk, she has to dance! This show has become way too predictable and staged!
I have to say, in all my 22 seasons with this show, Ginger and Val’s freestyle was one of the most seriously underwhelming I can ever recall.
Fred and Ginger never spent half their dances standing around, messing with a newspaper or standing about shuffling their feet in a ho hum fashion. They burned the floor with elegance, speed and a delightfully playful romance.
I did find it somewhat charming, but also completely anemic and way overrated. All style, no content.
Someone please give Len a hit off a joint before I end up shooting him through my TV. He needs to CHILL PUT!!!
Way too much mucking around. Well, coming from Val, I’m not surprised. All 10’s, oh please. Wish Wanya was still in and Ginger eliminated.
Ginger/Val: Boring and underwhelming
Nyle/Peta: Also underwhelming
Paige/Mark: Fantastic, sharply executed, fun and exciting. Len has lost his marbles, and should’ve given them a 10. Oh that’s right, he’s a company man and blatantly pimping Ginger. Shame on you, Len.
Ginger’s freestyle was far from perfect and came nowhere near the great Astaire and Rogers. I smell a rat! Gave all my votes to Paige and Mark Yeah Nyle has pretty well plateaued though I do think his freestyle should be good due to how invested he is in it but we shall see. Still think Paige and Mark will win the votes bt I don’t know how the numbers are adding up.
That choreography was so bad. There was a huge pause in the middle and so called tap dancing…oh good Lord. My six year old granddaughter can tap better than that. And then that mess gets tens. Yikes. And I don’t hold Ginger accountable for that…that is all on Val.
So. Ginger gets 30’s no matter what. Fred and The real Ginger must be turning over in their graves. A tribute like that they don’t need.. It was sloppy and uninspired. Maybe 8’s if we’re talking truth.
Peta brought in an outside choreographer to choreograph their Freestyle?? She’s been on the show for how many years and can’t choreo a Contemporary Freestyle on her own?? Guess she should take notes from Derek and take classes.
That was pretty good…felt Nyle was off-time by a smidge in some parts But he danced it well.
i would have give ginger and Val’s freestyle an 8. Now I’m just going to say it: I’m not cool with a outside choreographer for a freestyle. This is the one chance u get to do whatever you want with your celeb and you chose not to? I just don’t get it. The dance was interesting. I guess the best way I can explain it is this: you know the feeling you get after u watch a movie you had super high hopes for and it just disappoints you. That’s the feeling I have. I’d give that an 8 as well.
Ginger’s freestyle was a travesty if she & Val are comparing it to Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. Not. Even. Close.
Just got in from work so I’m a little behind. Just walked in to Ginger and Val’s freestyle. Uh what was that? Felt to me like an average week jazz routine. Not too impressed.
I’m so glad Peta checked her ego at the door and brought in another choreographer. She wanted the best for Nyle and knew she couldn’t give what they wanted to say. Well deserved 10’s. Beautiful dance.
I wonder if Val used Jenna to choreograph the contemporary since it’s def not Val’s strong suit…
I had a bit of an allergy attack right after Nyle’s freestyle that caused my eyes to leak. It was not crying……….it was allergies I tell you!
?
Good for Peta for being so open about using an outside choreographer.
Anyone notice Nyle has a different ASL interpreter? Apparently his usual interprete, Ramon, got in an accident and is in critical condition. Hope he is ok!
Ginger over scored again. What a bland freestyle, now I like Val (as eye candy) but that was lame. Compared to Nyle’s, Ginger should’ve got 9s. But of course it was planned that way. Hopefully Paige knocks it out of the park!!
Very touching and emotional and beautifully executed!!! Nyle brought me testy eyes! Deserved those 10s!
Ginger wasn’t a Bindi and Val will never be a Derek who were the Fred & Ginger in Season 21!!! Wasn’t all 10 worthy really.
Now bring on the couple on fire!
That freestyle by pets and nyle was beautiful. Maybe it is often done that some other choreographer completely choreos a dance however I am unsettled by it.
Not to find an excuse but also to check since I saw wthe info on radaronline.com but they are saying that Ramon had a surgery this weekend? Is it true ? Is he not on the show tonight?
Dramatic and well performed. That said, I feel it’s the Pro’s job to do the choreo. Not cool with the outside help.
That freestyle from Nyle and Peta was magnificent! Talia never disappoints. It was a good call from Peta’s part to bring her in. No way in the entire universe Ginger and Val danced at that level. I hope Paige and Mark kick major derrière though!
I get the bachelorette is on after the show ABC…..please stop telling me. Ok now that’s off my chest. Paige and Mark had a great video. Very smart to tap into that emotion for the freestyle. And I’m just gonna add that Mark choreographed it…so peta take note. This was a freestyle. Saved the best for last. Interesting since and could be just me but nyle had a good not great week last week and this week and Paige has been on a roll of great dances for awhile now. Naturally, I expected the judges to pick that apart like a salad but thankfully they did not. I think she just won this season.
Ehhhh. I was not impressed with any of freestyles. They were kinda dull to me. Nothing showstopping except for Paige’s salsa.
I have to say that as talented as Mark is, that looked like the typical contemporary from DWTS pros compared to the contemporary choreographer Peta brought in. Don’t get me wrong, it was good just not as great of choreo as Nyles. JMO.
And Erin with that last minute plug for the bachelorette…..yeah just makes me switch the channel much quicker lol.
Beautiful freestyle by Paige and Mark. She really has opened up and grown in confidence. And when Mark got choked up, so did I. Lovely.
Now it’s officially ridiculous seen that Ginger’s freestyle after Nyle and Paige’s.
Now that was an excellently executed FreeStyle by Paige and Mark..THEIRS brought me to tears….I’d rank them Paige 1st, Nyle 2nd and Ginger 3rd 🙂
Wow, I never cry at a dance but that dance by Mark and Paige was exquisite. I could see her journey and BC Jean was the icing on the cake. Wow, have to go vote myself into oblivion.
That was one hell of a freestyle from Nyle I don’t know who that choreographer was but DANG! No problem with those scores well deserved.
So so psyched to see Paige Mark and BC Jean singing one of my very favorite songs. BC Jean is so lovely and talented. And it didn’t disappoint. Hoping all comes together for a Paige and Mark win. Love Nyle but they honestly deserve it.
Have a good night everyone
I think that Nyle had the best freestyle and I really want him to win, but the fact that he is in last place on the leaderboard makes me think he has no chance. The mirror ball will go to Paige.
Triumphant final dance for Paige & Mark!!!!!!!! Exquisite!!!!! Well-deserved three 10s! And, BC Jean was fabulous singing “Over the Rainbow”. Well done! And all Len could say was that all three couples’ final dances were great? Poor Len has really lost his credibility for me. Congrats to all three couples but for me, Paige & Mark won this round.
Man
Mark sure is talking like a man who did his last freestyle.
I thought it was probably the best of the three. It wasn’t as half assed as Ginger. And at least seemed more emotionally uplifting than Nyle. There was at least a gamut of dark and light in Paige’s.
I absolutely loved both of the dances from Paige and Mark. I enjoyed Nyle and Peta’s freestyle but I think Peta not doing the choreo made it less personal.
I think BC Jean rocked that version of Somewhere Over the Rainbow. I guess her wearing those hats are her signature style, but they bug me lol.
Someone enlight me please, cause I was a bit late, Paige’s Redemption dance was the Salsa because Mark didn’t perform it previously? cause that salsa on week 2 was her best on the season (and the Jive also).
guys– be CAREFUL when you vote online. on my fb page it was mark/Paige then peta/Nyle. on abc.com, pets and Nyle are first. make sure you vote for mark and Paige !!!
Is anyone having trouble calling Paige’s phone number? I’m getting a recording saying there is a problem with the number. Not happy about this glitch in the phone lines
@Leann, keep trying. I think her line is just getting so many votes right now.
For me the pros of Paige and Mark’s freestyle were the almost child like wonder and joy of it and the fearlessness of Paige just flinging her body into those leaps. Also her turns are absolutely beautiful.
I was expecting to cry during it, but oddly enough, I didn’t start crying until afterwards when I saw Mark struggling to control his tears. That got to me. Which led me to think about why I didn’t react that way from the dance itself. Don’t get me wrong, it was a lovely Contemporary, but was it a special and memorable freestyle for me? I have to say no.
For me, Paige easily won the first redemption round with the finesse, fun, fearlessness (that word should be Paige’s middle name) and skill of their salsa, and Nyle won the freestyle round with a moving, emotional and memorable dance. I have no friggen clue who I want to win! I honestly would be thrilled with either one. I love them both.
Mark is sure tweeting like it is his last freestyle on the show. He thanked ABC and of course Paige. I sure hope not cause with him and Derek gone… oh god. Anyway amazing job from all the contestants but Paige and Mark really stood out to me tonight. I hope they blow Ginger and Val out of the water tomorrow just because Val does not need his ego stroked more with a win.
Mark and Paige were the best tonight imo! It was so cute when Mark cried. That moment said it all. Awwww
We’ve been waiting so long for a mark ballas freestyle and that’s what we get….. it was well executed but definitely forgettable
Forgettable? Not at all. He was telling a beautiful story that was a great ending to Paige’s journey. Ginger’s is forgettable. I dont even know what that was.
Watching Mark and BC on All Access The looks the music These two are so adorable together. I don’t want Mark to leave but if he wins I won’t be the least bit surprised.
Changing my vote to Nyle loved his freestyle the best contemporary freestyle I have seen agree with the judges Nyle for the win .
I think Paige won the first round for me. That salsa was hot!! She has transformed as a dancer and it’s been great to see!
Nyle won the freestyle round, with Paige close behind. Nyle’s freestyle just embodied his journey, not only on DWTS but in life.
BC’s singing was just icing on the cake for Paige’s freestyle! It was incredible and seeing Mark cry really got me! I keep going back and forth between Nyle and Paige ftw! We’ll see soon!!
Ok, I love Paige and it would be awesome if she wins, but to me was pretty unfair to give her a Salsa again, that was probably her best dance, while Nyle and Ginger got dances that they didn’t get good scores than.
Anyway, as long Ginger doesn’t win, it’s all fine to me.
@AC, how is it unfair?!?! She danced the salsa with SOMEONE ELSE on week 2 when Mark was injured. Ginger got contemporary for her redemption round.. that’s what’s not fair.
I thought Paige won the redemption round but Nyle won the freestyle round. The best compliment I can pay Paige is that before the show I thought Nyle was going to win, now I can’t call it between him and Paige. The only thing I do know is that Ginger is coming in third without a doubt.
@AcCam – Well by that logic, Paige choosing the Salsa (which got a 24 the first time) isn’t anymore unfair than Nyle getting the Quickstep which got a point higher (25).
And Paige’s Salsa as great as it was the first time, wasn’t anywhere near the level of dancing she did it tonight. The whole purpose of the redemption dance is to improve on the first one and she definitely did that.
If my math is correct, Paige is up 4 points over Ginger and Nyle based on the combined scores from last week and this one. I think she should be up 6 points, but because of Len scoring Paige a 9 for her Tango and the redemption Salsa that isn’t the case. I want Paige to win because I think she has been the most consistent in terms of performance and growth in all of her dances. It will be so close though since Nyle pulled out the buzz worthy Freestyle of the night. Mark and Paige will need all the votes they can get in order to win the mirrorball.
I didn’t watch live but just watched the dances; Paige and Mark won the night for me! Round one wasn’t even a contest IMO (Ginger’s 10 from Len, what a joke!). Freestyle round was a little closer between Paige and Nyle at least (Ginger and Val? What a mess, the original Fred and Ginger must be spinning in their graves). Anyway, for me personally Paige’s freestyle was more unexpected and showed growth over the course of the show. Nyle’s was good; but considering the hoopla about it, I expected more somehow! Also, if you had asked me what kind of freestyle he would do, this would have been my guess.
Back to power voting for Paige! I still think Nyle is going to be hard to beat, just on his backstory alone, but I’m doing my part to get Mark a last MBT if indeed this is his final season and it sure sounded like that after that freestyle!
Paige and Mark absolutely DOMINATED TONIGHT!!! Robbed of two perfect scores, because that Salsa was the best one this season. Nyle’s quickstep din’t wow me, but his freestyle was fantastic. Ginger’s first dance was a mess, that wasn’t a contemporary, it was a half-assed freestyle. Their actual freestyle didn’t wow me either, quite mediocre.
Rooting for Paige or Nyle to take it all!!
For me, Paige’s freestyle trumped Nyle’s for one sole reason — technical refinement. There were parts of Nyle’s freestyle that just felt unfinished, like the idea was there but he didn’t quite execute fully, whereas Paige did.
Contemporary, in my opinion, has always not only been about the emotional connection to the dance, but also the technical skill and a willingness to completely immerse yourself in a dance to a point where it doesn’t seem like you’re thinking about the moves. You just do them. There were times where Nyle looked like he started to think and it threw off his dance, and Paige looked completely in it.
Also, Paige’s spins and leaps? Good lord. Had that girl not gone through what she went through and started MMA training, she would have made one heck of a dancer. You can see the training’s still there.
Paige was flawless tonight. What I loved most tonight was her vulnerability. Mark really crafted two dances that made her shine and that 9 from Len was utter BS. Everything from them was perfection. I thought I was sick of contemporary freestyles, but this one blew me away. They got all my votes tonight.
Nyle was incredible. His quickstep was a little rough and I really wish they wouldn’t have given him that style to redo. His freestyle was epic. While Paige’s freestyle might have personally been my favorite, objectively I thought Nyle’s was just as good. I also appreciate the fact that Peta gave props to the choreographer. I think it speaks highly of her that she gave Nyle the best dance she could and got help when she needed it.
Ginger is sweet but bland. How the hell Len rated that the best redemption dance was insane. Its unfair to me that Paige can get hit on not enough hips and Nyle on his hold but Ginger can do a dance with basically no rules. For the freestyle round Val should have played the same card Peta did and brought in help. There are some styles I think Val choreographs well, but freestyle is not one of them. Her weaknesses compared to Paige and Nyle were evident.
Overall, though, the moment that got me the most was Mark’s tears. Mark is one of the main reasons this show is what it is and I honestly think he’s the most underrated pro. For literally his entire adult life he’s given so much to this show, and on some level I want this win for him. I also, like Courtney, thought this might be his last season but Shirley literally just tweeted that it wasn’t. I think with Derek gone I really relied on Mark this season to carry the male choreography, and man has he delivered. One of his best seasons ever.
@Tina I think it doesn’t matter if she did amazing regardless. I agree that a Contemporary is a easier dance to get high scores, but she failed to do that, right? It was all 7s.
@CC NY But she got the Salsa earlier on the competition, when they hold back the scores and it was the highest score of the night. Nyle was 4th when he got the Quickstep.
Just wanted to stop by and say “Massive Thank You to all the fans helping Mark and Paige” She was good in the beginning of the show and IMO has improved by leaps and bounds. The others are good, but have not improved. Love Nyle’s freestyle and I know the pro’s use others help from time to time but Peta can choreograph contemporary, she did a great dance with James, just didn’t think she should use someone to design a whole dance for her.
@AcCam I agree, I think it was a bit lop-sided that Paige ended up getting a style she clearly already excelled at… she was obviously going to kill it.
Didn’t like Ginger and Val’s contemporary all that much. It wasn’t bad, it just wasn’t anything special. And I have to admit that I got excited about their Fred and Ginger dance, only to see no elegance whatsoever in it when they danced. Current Ginger was very unlike the prior Ginger…prior Ginger always looked elegant and tall because of how she held herself. Current Ginger tended to look clompy awkward and whatever the opposite of elegant is. I was very uncomfortable watching that; even Val didn’t seem to get the gist of a Fred and Ginger performance as he overdid the camp and also didn’t look elegant to me. Very disappointing. I guess because maybe I remember a certain top ballroom couple that did a Fred and Ginger routine their last year competing…they captured the essence of Fred and Ginger (if interested go to youtube and put in “Steve Dougherty & Eulia Baranovsky “Cheek to Cheek” Showdance”. It was from America’s Ballroom Challenge in 2012. Beautiful). Anyway, on to Nyle. I didn’t like his quickstep…he and Peta could still fit another person between them some of the time when dancing ballroom. Can’t stand that. Their contemporary was good, but it just didn’t move me. Probably because I dont like hairy chests and it was distracting. I dont know. Paige and Mark were awesome. Not sure who will win, but I have to say the dancing was disappointing to me. I should have just stayed that extra 30 minutes at the gym instead of rushing home to see the show. 🙁
Paige and Mark won the night for me.
I missed Wanya and Lindsay. I would have loved to
see their redemption dance and freestyle.
I realize that now that contemporary and/or
Jazz is a ‘style’ on the show, I’m mostly underwhelmed by the freestyle round.
When I saw Derek’s Instagram pic of he and Kellie practicing the move, I remembered just how much I loved their freestyle. It’s still my favorite freestyle ever on the show.
Nyle’s was wonderfully danced and performed. I loved the cover they used for that song. But the angst is every week. Either angst or energizer bunny. No light and shade. Just DARK or Manic.
Ginger brought absolutely nothing to the finale. Nothing. Hate to bring him up again but where is Wanya??? What a waste.
Paige & Mark took both rounds for me. I genuinely feel their partnership.
Can’t say the same for Nyle & Peta, although I did enjoy the interesting choreography… and the SONG! I just didn’t feel much of it, and was the same tone as most of his dances. I do agree the package with the outside choreographer made it less personal. I guess I wouldn’t be totally upset if they won though.
Results tomorrow finally!
Thank you Courtney for juggling so many balls in the air tonight for us. And I don’t mean that in a dirty way……….well, maybe a little.
?
Thank you!
My pleasure, Susan2 🙂 And I actually WISH I was juggling balls in a “dirty way” these days! 😉 #SingleGal
I actually briefly checked out during Ginger and Val’s first dance. When I saw a flower and a bench, I got flashbacks to SYTYCD and Mia Michaels’ “Calling You” routine for Travis and Heidi.
When i came to, I spent most of the routine watching Hayley kill it in her own style.
Really feeling sad that this may be Marks last season on DWTS. I’ve felt this way since I saw their first foxtrot week 1. There has been a glow in his eyes and he really produced some epic pieces of choreography this season. All of which does not mean that it’s his last season. Maybe he’s just elated that he got his dream
Partner and from UFC?!
Go Mark and Paige voting for you guys like crazy!!!!!!!❤️❤️❤️
@Vogue #71
I absolutely agree 100% that Paige and Mark were the best performers and Mark showing emotion over his awesome partner, choked me up a bit.
They all did amazing! I did feel Ginger was slightly over scored but I’m used to it at this point, so whatever.. saw that coming!
Paige killed her Samba which is a harder dance then Nyles quickstep, but I actually like her Samba with Allen better. I don’t know, there was a lot of “spice” when those two danced! I have to agree giving her a dance I feel she already nailed was blah, she already proved she could kill a samba with a different partner, where was the challenge?
Nyles quickstep was good, he was out of time, but again giving him that quickstep I don’t get. I didn’t think his Mask quickstep was the dance he should “redo”.. The rumba they did had more issues to me. I ( how I feel personally) think that was the show trying to ..redeem Len’s comments from that week..
Nyle killed the freestyle… Paige was great don’t get me wrong, but I don’t think I can listen to that song and not think of that dance! If you have ever made a Mvid video for youtube or whatever, You know what I mean. You place clips within it, you hear the song and those clips kinda replay.. that is how this dance has effected this song for me.
My votes: Nyle
You’ve got to be freakin kidding me if Len thinks Ginger’s first dance was better than Paige’s salsa. That’s insane!!! Sometimes I really hate this show.
Yeah I also got the vibe that mark felt this was his last freestyle! Which made me sad will the show turn to crap with him gone? Sigh.
I liked gingers freestyle concept but the dancing itself didnt wow me! Nyles quickstep was awful he should have gotten 7s the scores are ridiculous! But really liked him and petas freestyle! I was a bit underwhelmed by paiges freestyle but it was beautiful and loved their salsa! I think im gna vote for paige cause she was the best dancer tonight i felt and i hope mark can get another mirror ball cuz his choreo was way better than everyone elses. Ahh!
I think Paige has been the best dancer and she got even better towards the end. Nyle and Ginger levelled off in midseason if not gone backward. DWTS without Mark or Derek will be almost unwatchable. The other pros just can’t choreograph like they can. Honestly the only pro with promise as a choreographer is Lindsay.
So Paige gets all my votes and I’ll be disappointed if she doesn’t win.
Val? Astaire? LOL
So mark brought in Alan Salazar for his freestyle , interesting that people complained abt peta bringing someone in but haven’t said nothing abt mark
I really don’t understand the hoopla about Peta bringing in an outside choreographer. She wanted the best for Nyle which was outside of her realm and in my opinion they nailed their dance through and through. (Allison, Val, and Keo should consider taking a note from that) I really do hope that Nyle wins the trophy, I feel he really deserves it.
I agree Christopher. I watch this show because I want to be entertained. I’d rather a pro bring in an outside choreographer so they can do a great dance with their star like Peta and Nyle did rather than watch a ho-hum dance that Val choreographed all on his own.
Rebecca and Christopher, I think it’s just a matter of personal taste regarding use of an outside choreographer. I can see both sides of the arguement. On one hand, if a pro isn’t up to it, I’d rather see a good dance than a crap one. On the other hand some argue that the pros want the attention, fame et. that comes with the show, then they should be up to the challenge. It’s kind of like having some dance background versus not; it bothers some and doesn’t matter at all to others of us!
I’m not sure either position is right or wrong, it’s all in how each of us view what the show should be about.
Late to this party. But just wanted to thrown in my 2 cents worth. If Val is going to let Fred Astaire become his muse as his balance to Derek’s/Gene Kelly vibe, he failed miserably. He needs to stay home and watch a few more movies then follow that up with some tap lessons. The staging, the costuming, the dance itself was an insult to the style of Fred & Ginger. Anytime Fred dances with a prop it serves a purpose. The newspaper further points out how Val is unable to think creatively. His newspaper became a very awkward arm extension for Val, and an “umbrella” for Ginger. That’s all you could come up with.
Mark, OTOH, has been so on the money with his choreo. Len has singled him out several times for his artistry. Yea, Len.
I would love to find a season where the dance is scored relevant to the “star”, then a 2ndry score (starting around the 4th week) by a separate judge for the pros on their choreograhy. Average that together for the overall score. It would certainly force these pros to be a little more forward thinking and accountable to the process.
