DWTS Pre-Finale Media: Interview With Peta Murgatroyd, More Poll Talk, Derek Hough Seen At Studios, And More
Just a few Dancing With The Stars Pre Finale media tidbits. First, have you voted in our new Poll for who you think will win Dancing With The Stars Season 22? Note how Paige VanZant & Mark Ballas are currently ahead by 101 votes:
Mark and Paige: 50.56% (682 votes)
Peta and Nyle: 43.07% (581 votes)
Val & Ginger: 6.37% (86 votes)
If you go to Gold Derby, their Poll currently has Nyle DiMarco winning at 65.96%. Paige VanZant has 29.79% of the votes with Ginger at 4.25%.
Also, if you haven’t read Miss Heidi’s new “Dancing By The Numbers” post, it’s a fascinating read as always too. Dona and I weighed in with our Numerology and Astrology predictions over the weekend as well in case you haven’t read them.
Also, check out a new interview with Peta Murgatroyd at TV Guide. She weighs in on all the Finalists including herself and Nyle. Below is a take, but be sure to read the link for entire break down.
He’s the people’s favorite. He’s a beautiful dancer and, of course, the level of difficulty in his stellar performances are intensified by the fact that he cannot hear any music. No one’s given him a pass though; in fact, he’s been dinged for uneven performances, typically due to overconfidence. His special circumstances have given him only two advantages: with fans, including a hearing impaired community who shows up both in the studio and when it’s time to vote, and secondly, his impressive tricks, like silencing the music or, as they did last week, putting him in a blindfold.
“We have something so extraordinary,” Murgatroyd says of their finale performance. “We’re going to tell Nyle’s life story though our dance and how much he loves being deaf. He doesn’t want to hear. He wants to stay deaf. He’s 100 percent confident in who he is. Hopefully people see him as a champion.”
So who’ll win? DiMarco. Fans have been mesmerized by him from the get-go; his story of resilience, believing in yourself and succeeding against all odds is the stuff good TV — and America — is made of.
And what about Murgatroyd? If DiMarco wins, it would be Murgatroyd’s second win, after she helped Donald Driver take the top spot in Season 14. How would she celebrate? “A lot of bed rest, a lot of spa days and massages,” she says. “Resting my body. We both have bruises all over… we’ve been rolling on the floor for four hours a day. It’s killing us.” Maybe it’ll be worth it.
For fun, see USA Today. They have a cool feature on the best dances of the season.
And lastly, isn’t it interesting Derek Hough was seen at the Dancing With The Stars studio over the weekend? Do we dare hope he’s part of the final shows in some way? I’m dying here.
Here’s to the finale, All!!! ~Vogue over and out for now. xxx
Maybe there is some hope of Derek showing up on the Finale! Bindi & Derek are the current champs and given his love for DWTS plus the fact Mark is there will all work together and he’ll perform. The opening number, a special dance with Bindi, somehow in Mark & Paige’s freestyle (maybe he can be the one Paige’s knocks out to take the crown) or just ANYTHING! Please let this happen.
Good ideas, PJC! I agree…just anything Derek. Please let it happen.
I don’t think Derek will perform at all, and might not even be in the audience. I think he’s very aware of not wanting to take attention away from the finalists. I do think he will be there, somewhere, on Tuesday night, ready to lift Mark onto his shoulders.
Suzy, I’m not convinced there won’t be something with Derek. He recently made a dance video with Travis Wall. Maybe they will premiere it in full tomorrow night on the show as a performance thing? Well, I can dream I guess. lol
Vogue, I would LOVE to be wrong!!!!!
In this case, I hope you are. lol x
I’d love to see Derek in any capacity, but I’d prefer for him to take the place held for Maks’ and Val’s spot for their tour promo!
Did the dismissive talk about Paige in this article bother anyone else? Made Peta and the writer both look really biased and tacky…
DWTS snapchat had a picture of Paige and Mark. It said they were going to have a special guest join them for their freestyle. I’m guessing if we see Derek, that’s going to be where.
BC Jean will be singing Somewhere Over the Rainbow for Mark and Paige’s freestyle, I think that is what they meant.
I notice Peta has brought in an emmy nominated choreographer to choreo the whole of her and Nyle’s freestyle. Wonder if that will give her the edge!
Maria I think they probably mean BC singing.
Sorry for the double post!
@Laurie, I don’t think they were trying to be dismissive of Paige. She actually mentioned all the contestants in the full article. She said Paige is “everything a winner should be.” Peta doesn’t strike me as someone to be dismissive or shady. I can’t blame Peta for the story the writer wants to take. She’s answering the questions she’s being asked.
Sorry. When I see over the top accolades for both Nyle and Ginger, by both the writer and by Peta, while they both just say Paige is everything a winner should be and leave it at that then I find that dismissive. And similar to what has been going on all season with the scoring, the judges’ comments, the publicity mill, and the general attitude of the DWTS attitude towards Paige. Oh – ‘Paige has all this experience so she should be pretty good, but Nyle’s a god, and Ginger is a goddess. Be sure and vote.’ Sometimes it’s hard to take, and it certainly leaves a bad taste…
Paige RTed the “Derek seen at the DWTS studios” PDH tweet. That must mean something?? I get the other one possibly being BC but she wouldn’t tweet that for no reason.
Er, Mark is also Emmy nominated – and possibly more than Peta’s choreographer.
Sure she would, Tina, if she’s retweeting everything with her name in it, which is something people often do.
I would certainly love to see Derek, but him dancing with Mark and Paige (running the risk of overshadowing them or making it about him) sounds VERY unlike something he would actually do. It’s certainly something that the C-bros might pull, but I think Mark would have to seriously beg for him to do it.
@M8 and PH – Peta’s choreographer has never been nominated for an Emmy. She’s a protege of Sonya Tayeh (who has one nomination), but Talia Favia herself doesn’t have any.
Personally I have a lot more respect for Mark, knowing that he probably did the legwork with Paige, whereas Peta has brought in a choreographer, that choreographer’s assistant and Maks. Sounds like literally all she’s done is danced it with him.
@PH #16 – The weird thing about Paige retweeting the PDH tweet/link is that there is zero mention of her in the tweet or in the post it links too. It’s all about Derek with one mention of Mark in Vogue’s write-up (and a few more in the comments). I agree that it’s highly unlikely that Derek will be in their dance (or package for that matter), but it was an odd retweet on her part.
Maybe not. I’ve been tweeting for them the past few weeks, telling people to vote. It’s possible she’s just returning a favor.
Of course Derek will show up because I can’t watch the show live. 🙂
@PH – Fair enough. Too bad you can’t watch live.
