ET Reports Laurie Hernandez Will Be Dancing On DWTS Season 23
Entertainment Tonight is reporting Laurie Hernandez will be dancing in the new season of Dancing With The Stars. They think Mark Ballas would make the perfect partner for her, but, there is no word on whether he’s dancing or not. Here is more…
The celebrity cast for season 23 of Dancing With the Stars just keeps getting better!
Olympic gymnast Laurie Hernandez will be competing for the coveted mirror ball trophy, sources confirm to ET.
The 16-year-old athlete from Team USA is freshly back in the United States following her impressive victories at the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Hernandez won silver on the balance beam, and gold in the women’s team all-around.
While there’s no word on whether or not pro Mark Ballas will return, it sounds like he could make a perfect partner for Hernandez. “I absolutely adore @lzhernandez02 just gorgeous,” he tweeted on Aug. 10. “#starpower #needadanceteacher? #RioOlympics2016.”

I love Laurie she would fit in well with her effervescent personality Mark would be an awesome partner as well I do worry about her taking on too much with the final 5 tour I don’t want to see her have the kind of experience that Nastia did
This is a great news, but what about Kellogg’s gymnastics tour. Is she meant to be there? My gut filling tells me that Mark will seat out this season(why?)and Derek takes Laurie.
Rumor has it that Val is her partner. Really sad if true, Mark was the one who tweeted about how she would be great and offered to be her teacher. TPTB just hand Val ringer after ringer and he still only won once. Why do they think he is so important. Hope Mark is still on this season.
Hmmm if Laurie winds up as Mark’s partner I wonder if Derek will also have a gymnast considering he was more or less requested by one. Oh the drama that would create for certain pros but what awesome dancing we’d get too see.
No matter who gets whom I want to see some great dancing from ALL the pros Too many hoo hum routines last season by pros who ain’t all they think they are.
If Val really got Laurie and Mark ends up having to sit out this season because his partner (Beverly Mitchell??) fell through and the replacement celeb it too tall for Mark I’d ber really upset. She’s the perfect hight for Mark.
While the gymnasts always seem to do well right out of the gate. Having Laurie paired with Val is an easy win for him. He will continue with his “meh” choreography as usual and leave the rest up to Laurie. Heck, Val probably has already dusted off a spot on a shelf for his new MBT trophy this season. He truly believes that he is star of the show and he deserves every award there is.
Personally, I’m not a fan of the youngsters doing the show. And I don’t believe I’ve ever supported any of them. Nothing personal just my own little quirk about the show.
I hope 2 is the limit for Olympians this season. There are other great contestants that will be working hard just to stay in the competition and I love following their journey on the show.
If I have been following this right, the whole reason why folks are saying that Laurie has Val for a partner is because she is now following him on Twitter. And yet, Val said weeks ago that he had already met his partner. Just when would he have had an opportunity to meet Laurie in the weeks before the Olympics?
I think Mark knows that fans have fun speculating before the reveal and he is having fun with us by asking Laurie to follow Val to throw us off in our guesses. Anyone else think that?
There is something else going on, overall, that I think is probably bigger than just Val-Laurie-Mark. Courtney has been giving (necessarily) heavily veiled hints, it’s something that George Pennacchio also knows is going down, and it’s confirmed more pro shake-ups are to come. My own thinking is that whatever else TPTB might do, if they don’t stop promoting (and wasting their resources on) Val as the next big thing, the dynamics of the show won’t change no matter what else they do. So I, with a giant acknowledgement that this may well have more than a little wishful thinking involved, think that whatever is coming will specifically NOT be in Val’s interest. Couldn’t happen to a more deserving fellow. 🙂
No, Psychee22 – not right. You need to do some more reading. 🙂
The problem is, Suzy, that the producers know that Derek is a short term thing. And who knows, maybe Maks is as well. So they have to hang their hat on Val…very interesting though that Gleb is now in the mix. I hope the dude really shows us what he’s got. If he does, HE could be the next big thing and Val could find himself with some more competition.
I really hope Gleb shows us some great stuff. Maybe between having Derek, Maks & Gleb on the show will push Val to be more creative and not coast. I honestly think TPTB have shot themselves in the foot as far as Val is concerned. They have made to so easy for him. He has no reason to push himself. Maybe this will be a wake up call for him.
Val needs some competition for sure. Between getting a lot of ringers and the show putting him out there as the anointed one, he’s gotten lazy, complaisant and totally believes his own hype.
I’m as perplexed as anyone as to why the show seems to hang all it’s hopes on Val. It would be in their best interests to have several other newer male pros just bubbling under the surface, hoping to break through. You should never pin all your hopes on one pony, especially one who is lacking charisma and choreographic talent and is a bit of a demanding little diva besides.
I do wonder if they attempted to do this with bringing Artem in several years ago. For whatever reason he hasn’t become “the one”. I do hope Gleb has a fantastic season and really gains in popularity just to spite the Diva.
Honestly, if I were Artem or Val I would look around me and see Derek, Gleb and Maks and seriously start to wonder if my days are numbered. That’s bringing in a lot of top shelf of competition, in star power, if nothing else (in Maks’ case). Yeah, they gave Val a massive ringer…but if he doesn’t pull it out yet again?? Look out.
Gawd, I feel sorry for Laurie Hernandez if she really has been handed to Val. She better bring all the toughness she’s learned from the brutal gynmastics circuit because she’s gonna need it.
To one degree or another, all Val’s partners look pretty miserable by the time he’s done with them. If Laurie’s hoping DWTS will be a fun way to wind down from Rio, she’s in for a nasty shock because Val will soon make it clear that as far as he’s concerned her job is to get him another MBT.
I really feel bad for Laurie. Look at how he treated Bindi Irwin in the week she had to spend with Val? So I don’t expect much different behavior from him with a gold medalist! I just don’t understand why TPTB keep giving him ringers…it’s like they want to hand him the MB on a platter. Well, he’s already gotten one handed to him…why not another? SMH…..
Val was a c_cky a$$ with Bindi because she was Derek’s partner. I didn’t expect anything more from him. But, being that Laurie is his own partner, and 16, he may caudal her like he did with Zendaya (the big brother thing). They could turn out to be competition for the others. She certainly has a lot over on others before the show even starts. But, there’s one thing she won’t have and that’s a great choreographer in her partner.
#10-Heidi:”So they have to hang their hat on Val”
Every time I read this line, I think of that stupid photo shoot Val and Maks did for People magazine! Ugh! Did you use this line on purpose to gross me out???lol!
I hope Gleb becomes the “next big thing” too, because Val is leaving us short in that department! (Yes, pun intended!)
No Meggie – sorry. 🙂 I had bleached my brain of that incident.
