Rob Wade: It’s “about bringing people – and America – together through dance”
Copied and pasted from Pure Derek Hough…
Executive Producer Rob Wade talked to People for why they asked Derek, Cheryl Burke, and Maks Chmerkovskiy back to the ballroom. It was “about bringing people – and America – together through dance”. Awesome. Here is more….
“When we knew had interest from Cheryl, Maks and Derek to come back, we felt strongly that the people we paired them with would be really suitable to them,” says Wade.
It’s only been one season since Hough won his sixth Mirrorball trophy (with Bindi Irwin on season 21), but Chmerkovskiy and Burke have not competed on the show since seasons 18 and 19, respectively.
“”This season is about bringing people – and America – together through dance,” says Wade. “And I think having Maks, Cheryl and Derek coming back to the family is a very important part of that.”
“It wasn’t easy because they have other opportunities, but they all love the show and are stoked to be coming back,” adds Wade. “I think it’s going to make for a really interesting season.”

So Cheryl and Ryan are suitable? I wonder how she feels about that?
My thought exact, Liz. Perhaps he meant, in this case, he wanted to pair Ryan with a hard knock trainer that would hold him accountable, but his wording could use some work. Pardon my cyanicism, but this whole interview is laughable and just plain spin: He whose loves to stir the Chmerkovskiy v Hough fan war pot claims to be trying to bring people together? . His job and bottom line is to capitalize on
pros, celebs and situations that will maximize buzz, routines, viewership and votes. Gee, I never realized how much TV execs and politicans had in common!
For shits and giggles, I looked at the comments on the people article. There are only 5-6 so far and already 2 are about how Marilu Henner has dance experience and has been on Broadway!
Cause NO ONE on this show has EVER had ANY dance or Broadway experience before, right Colleen? ;). Ah geez, not this ish again already! You’re a stronger person than I to scope out that lion’s den. Odds on how many of those comments stem from fans of a pro who happens to be paired with a young, current Olympic gold medal gymnast and his brother who won the show in his most recent season with an ice dancer also just off an Olympic gold medal win?
Lol…people already saying stuff about Marilu? How can people be that dumb? Oh wait, they feel threatened because it’s Derek’s partner, y’all! Ridiculous how people turn blind about Laurie Hernandez, the 16 years old, Gold medalist, recent Olympic Gymnast…too funny!
I knew there would be ringer accusations against Marilou the minute Derek was announced as her partner. If Amy was a ringer, who isn’t?
Wade left out the part about ratings lol. He must be patting himself on the back that three popular pros resigned, especially when two were emphatic about moving on, and Maks always claiming to be going to bigger and better things.
Rob Wade on the old pros coming back, ““It wasn’t easy because they have other opportunities”
Cheryl and Derek do but Maks had nothing going on.
