Pure Dancing With The Stars Season 23 Media Tidbits To Start The Day
Just a few media tidbits to start us off. First, read E Online for some thoughts on the cast and when they meet/met their partners….
“Vanilla Ice hasn’t met his partner yet. He’s meeting [Witney Carson] Friday at his home in Florida,” a source shared with E! News. “He almost couldn’t do it, but Dancing With the Stars wasn’t an opportunity he wanted to pass up. He’s really happy and excited. He has some dancing in his background but he hasn’t really danced in years.”
In the weeks ahead, the “Ice Ice Baby” rapper will also continue his “I Love the 90’s” tour and the seventh season of The Vanilla Ice Project that films in Florida. Talk about multi-tasking.
Other contestants like Governor Rick Perry, Ryan Lochte, Amber Rose and Laurie Hernandez have been able to meet their professional partners. But that doesn’t mean they have a huge advantage.
“[Rick’s partner] Emma Slater didn’t even know she was doing the show this season until about two weeks ago so they are brand-new partners,” a source shared with E! News. The same could go for Ryan’s partner Cheryl Burke who “kept the fact that she was returning really close to the vest. She didn’t tell anyone.”
And before Carrie Ann Inaba, Julianne Hough and the rest of the judging panel can start delivering scores from the ballroom, some people are already speculating as to who could become a favorite and walk away with a mirror ball trophy.
“Val Chmerkovskiy is psyched. The gymnasts always go far and he thinks they have a really good shot at winning. Plus, Laurie is way too young for people to make romantic assumptions about them, which always drives him crazy,” an insider shared with E! News. “He hates being romantically linked to his partner. This will be more like his relationship with Zendaya. He had a great time with her.”
More at E Online.
Gleb Savchenko and his partner Jana Kramer met for the first time yesterday and they are excited. Aren’t they a beautiful pairing? His former Strictly Come Dancer partner Anita Rani says he’ll work her “like a Russian bear” and that he will.
Also, below is a fun report from Access Hollywood and a pap video at the opening shoot Monday night….

We’ve posted lots of updates on Derek Hough and Marilu Henner at Pure Derek Hough including their appearance on Extra yesterday, a bio, interviews, photos, and more. This interview made me laugh so hard. Watch it and see why when you get a chance.
Lastly, here’s a fun report on the cast from Today….
Nice to hear that Vanilla Ice is so happy and excited. I think he is going to be a great edition to the show.
Uh oh! Did Hoda call Marilu “Reba”…. Lol!
Oh my goodness. Gleb and Jana are a stunning couple.
Jake and Jana are a good looking pair. I haven’t seen any interviews with then yet to see how the chemistry is though. I’m really looking forward to this couple.
From the article above…Plus, Laurie is way too young for people to make romantic assumptions about them, which always drives him crazy,β an insider shared with E! News. βHe hates being romantically linked to his partner. This will be more like his relationship with Zendaya. He had a great time with her.β
Yeah, Val really hates being romantically linked to his partners when it’s possible. Hahahahahaha! – EYE ROLL – Roll Tape!
So yeah, I just barfed up my coffee after reading that Val “hates” being romantically linked to his partners. What a load of stinky crap.
I’m hoping Vanilla Ice does well on the show and is able to juggle his packed schedule. He’s in for some exhaustion for sure.
Gleb and Jana are going to be a lovely to look at couple on the dance floor for sure.
What a bunch of crap. Typical Chmerkovskiy though – do everything you can to put certain impressions in people’s minds, then pretend that you hate it and it’s all the viewers fault. It’s always someone else fault.
Val has the ringer for the season. According to TPTB and Maks, Val is the star of the show. With that being said, Val should be able to win this with one foot tied behind his back. Therefore, I want to see an unbiased, non-pimping season. Yeah, right. What are the odds of that?! Open mind I chant to myself. Good luck to all the couples. I can’t wait for the season to begin. ?
My biggest fear with Val and Laurie is not Val’s attitude or his choreography skills but the risk him injuring her He does have a track record for it, and I can still hear Rumor screaming in pain when Val asked what happened
and she yelled at him ” You slammed me so hard!”
Thanks a lot Kathie Lee for carrying on and on about Marilu’s dance experience! From over 40 years ago!
I hope the prepubescent Val fans don’t start Val/Laurie ship like they did with Zendaya. She was only 16 too when she was on. That didn’t stop them though. It was creepy.
Even though the show hasn’t started my favorites are already Vanilla Ice, Marilu, Calvin and Maureen.
There’s no one that I’m not looking forward to seeing dance. I’m loving this line up.
I hope they show marilu screaming when she sees Derek for the first time!! I’m really excited for this couple! I’m voting for them!
I love Laurie a lot but I’m so pissed that she has Val as a partner that there’s no way I can vote for her. If you ask me, Laurie seemed disappointed to be partnered with Val on GMA. And Val’s BS about how he supposedly hates being romantically linked with his partners makes me sick.
Gleb and Jana might win as the best looking couple! Wow!
I always hope that everyone has some kind of dance skill so they don’t struggle and feel badly during the first week. But there are so many good people this season, that I want my faves to do well so someone I don’t care for needs get voted off.
It doesn’t really matter, Colleen. Anyone with a working brain is going to recognize that Marilu, at 64, is NOT favored to win or as ringer when compared to the likes of Laurie and possibly others on the show. That being said, a disturbing portion of the DWTS audience doesn’t really have a working brain. Part of the problem is that it’s Derek – if Marilu were paired with Artem there would be much crying and rending of garments by those fans. Cuz he’s not Derek and he apparently can’t capitalize on even a younger celeb.
Just look at the situation – there is crying about Derek’s 64 year old partners dance experience from years ago…but not a soul commenting to Val that it’s very interesting that HE always gets ringer – the biggest one of the season this time around. Because he’s only managed to win once. Even the odds makers pick her to win. Yet all we hear about is Derek’s partner. It will never change – some are just incapable of looking at Derek and what he does and recognizing that he’s just damn good. And some people automatically (stupidly, moronically) tie wins to quality of partners instead of talent. Most of those people are likely hard core fans of other pros and just can’t or won’t accept the fact that it’s what Derek DOES, not who he’s given. Unfortunately, a lot of the pros have bought into this as well, which means instead of emmulating Derek, they keep doing the same thing expecting different results until they get “better” partners “like Derek does”. It’s like…stupidity cubed. π
Yes, I’ve noted this disturbing trend of “fans” who want their favorite pro to be given a “good partner” so that they’ll win! Who is the PRO?!! What is it that the PRO is supposed to do again? Teach, train, coach a celeb? Choreograph routines to show them to advantage while entertaining the audience, who get to vote maybe?
While Emma and Sasha aren’t the most creative choreographers, they have a lovely attitude about all things DWTS. Never a bad word about the show or a partner. And they’ve had ups and downs. They appear to hit a stride somewhere between being a drill sergeant and slackers allowing their partners to last as long as they can while still enjoying the experience. I’m not saying they are the only pros with good attitude. But considering their now they’re pros/ now they aren’t and the partners they are “given”, I admire their positivity. And look forward to seeing them grow if they continue as pros.
Methinks Val protests too much. Hates being romantically linked to partners? Yeah, since when? He loves the attention that showmances entail. IMO, he is a better showmancer than teacher/choreographer.
Where were the Val fans when Janel was his partner? She had the same musical theater background as Marilu in addition to being DECADES younger.
Woeful ignorance is just sad.
They can point fingers, Susan2, but they can’t admit the truth for Val’s partners.
Susan2: “Where were the Val fans when Janel was his partner? She had the same musical theater background as Marilu in addition to being DECADES younger.”
Wonderful point, Susan2! You know, I think Marilu has the balls and the confidence to come out and say exactly this! … so if you’re out there, as in HERE, Marilu, go for it!
