James Hinchcliffe tells the Indy Star that his feet are very sore. He has muscles in them he never knew he had. He’s going to be thankful for a break this weekend. LOL Read on for more. He makes me laugh.
Hinchcliffe has less than two weeks to learn the fox trot for his first appearance on ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars,” a national prime-time show debuting its 23rd season Sept. 12 in Los Angeles. Professional dance partner Sharna Burgess put him through three days of practice that left him aching to push the gas and brake pedals.
Hinchcliffe will get back in step with the dance after this weekend’s IndyCar race at Watkins Glen International. He appreciates the break.
“My feet are very sore,” he told IndyStar on Friday. “You have muscles in your feet you didn’t know you had.”
Hinchcliffe was confirmed for the show Tuesday morning, then welcomed Burgess to Indianapolis that afternoon. (They met for the first time last weekend at IndyCar’s race at Texas Motor Speedway, shooting video that will air in the first show.)
Burgess is known as a strong choreographer and a teacher who makes her partners put in work.
Hinchcliffe, who claims to have little dancing experience, said he already understands what his body must learn to do.
“It’s connecting the top part of your body to the bottom part,” he said. “Your frame has to be good. You have a lot of things you have to remember about how to stand and how to position the top of your body – that’s one element – and the other element is focusing on all the footwork. When I focus on one, the other seems to suffer, and vice versa.
“I need to connect myself top to bottom a little better, I think.”
