Derek Hough and Friends Perform for Hollywood Elite at MPTF’s Hollywood’s Night Under the Stars

I don’t remember if we reported this here or not, but back in August Derek was asked to perform at Hollywood’s Night Under the Stars, hosted by George Clooney and with a true A list group of people attending and/or performing. MPTF’s Mission Statement: MPTF supports our entertainment community in living and aging well, with dignity and purpose, and in helping each other in times of need.

Anyway, tonight was the night and Derek followed Hugh Jackman! He’s keeping fine company these days. He performed a number from Singin’ in the Rain with Hayley and Brittany and some of his non-DWTS related dancing friends. He followed that with an Argentine Tango with a great dancer whose name is escaping me at the moment. There are a ton of photos and a bit of video on PureDerekHough.com. Here’s a selection.

GEORGE CLOONEY? I’ve never fan girled so hard

I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. And I'm cynical and jaded too. But I do love DWTS. :-)

DWTS 23 Gleb Savchenko And Jana Kramer Interviewed In Vegas On Their “Beatles LOVE” Dance

While rehearsing in Las Vegas, Gleb Savchenko and Jana Kramer talked with the Las Vegas Review Journal about what’s to come with their “Cirque” The Beatles LOVE dance. Read on.

The bulk of these numbers will be staged in the “DWTS” studio ballroom in L.A. (the show is actually presented in the CBS Studios facilities), but pro dancer and choreographer Gleb Savchenko and country-music artist Jana Kramer are rehearsing and performing at Love Theater at the Mirage.

The song plucked from the show “The Beatles Love” is “Here Comes the Sun.” The sun prop from the show is being employed in the number, though no Cirque artists will dance in the act.

“We’ll be doing a foxtrot to it, and it is a very happy song,” Savchenko said. “The song is chill, but the dance is fast, very happy and loving and matching the happiness of the song.”

Seated at Savchenko’s side and holding a bag of ice (though there are no serious maladies to report), Kramer said, “We’re going to enliven the song. We have to do something special. We would get zeroes if we just sat there.” She laughed and added, “Even though I would love to just sit there.”

The partnership is seeded in a conversation between “DWTS” reps and Cirque exec Jerry Nadal in the fall of 2014. That connection led to two couples – Nick Carter and Sharna Burgess, and Tamar Braxton and Valentin Chmerkovskiy – dancing to “Hey Jude” in November 2014.

This year, the two sides are going full-tilt with Cirque’s creative participation in Tuesday’s show, with many performances in L.A. invoking the troupe’s artists and stage effects.

This sounds cool. I love Gleb’s Fox Trots. More at the Las Vegas Review Journal including a fun photo.

Laurie Hernandez Writes On Her Huge Week, Previews Her Next Dance On DWTS

Laurie Hernandez has posted a new blog at US Weekly. She talks of her busy week and going to the White House. She also gives us a preview of what’s to come this week on Dancing With The Stars.

This coming week on DWTS it’s a Cirque du Soleil theme and we got Michael Jackson: ONE. We’re dancing to “The Way You Make Me Feel,” which is such an awesome song. Since I’ve been traveling so much, Val sent me a video today of him dancing with another person who is doing what I’m supposed to be doing, and he said, “Watch this and learn as much as you can before tomorrow!” I was like, “Oh no!”

I kind of learned the beginning, and then there’s a mini solo part at the end, and I’m working on it. I’m not really able to get up and do it, I’m only able to watch since I’ve been on a plane, but I’m watching it and visualizing what it will be like to dance it. I have a show Thursday night, and then Friday, I think Val is flying to Texas and we’ll have a rehearsal in the morning and then a show at night. After the show, I’m going to back to L.A., so Saturday and Sunday I’ll have time to practice — but not much time!
