Ok so this week is crazy good. So far not a bad dance but one slightly overscored. Daisy had a really cute quickstep that I think got the right score becuase I was thinking 8s as well. Anastasia and Brendan definately have improved since her first dance but now I’m kinda wondering why the 7s at the same time. Danny and oti are the best pairing on strictly in a long time. I thought 10s. Lesley deserved all 7s I think as well but damn if I have half her energy when I’m that age I will be very happy. Quickstep (in my opinion) is usually Anton’s meh dance but I loved this one. Will and Karen…..sorry but I’d give that a 7 and was not impressed but liked it. Naga and pasha…score was about what I expected…the 5 was a joke though. choreogrpahy and getting out of her own head…work on that and you guys will get better. Judge rinder got the song of the night that’s the “oh geez this is going to be a mess” but damn was that amusing. Missed ore’s dance so had to watch on YouTube. Overscored yet so fun. I’m very confused here. Still don’t like them.
Laura and Giovanni better be thanking Bruno and the dancing gods becuase in no way was that a 9 dance. Agreed with the others though. Dance was very fun-ish. Greg and Natalie were great but agreed with the 8s. A bit worried that he might be in trouble though. Oy….Claudia is great but I think AJ is the issue for me. He can choreogrpah with the best but he has a Trent like quality that makes me wish he wasn’t her partner at the same time. Anyways, agreed with the 9s.
Well spoke to soon before: tameka did what she was given and what she did definately was entertaining but gorka went into maks territory there with that dance. It felt like he just phoned that in.
This rlast two dances were my favs by far. Ed is hysterical and gave it all he had that she for sure. Honestly I think that he is going home though. I wouldn’t have given that a 7. Now Louise has done the impossible…made me a Kevin fan. That deserved all 8s. Also really loved the beginning of that.
The best one tonight was Claudia for me, I think she deserved a better score than Dany.
My next favorites of the night were Dany and Ore, so smooth, and Louise’s cha cha cha, because she had the time of her life and it shows.
I agree with Vin on Laura’s score, no way that sloppy salsa deserved a 9.
Great show! This wasn’t as tacky as the week before and probably my favourite Movie Week so far, even without a Jay Jive in it.
My thoughts on each couple:
– Daisy and Aljaz is such a great pairing, I’m so hoping the best for them. Her Quickstep was surprisingly light for a tall person, although there was a fair share of mistakes there. It still amazes me that “A Spoonful of Sugar” is used as their song, as Mary Poppins’ other songs seem to be more Quicksteppy than that, but overall nice.
– Lol @ Anastacia getting shoved into the death slot as soon as possible. I feel like I’m seeing a new Anastacia, who’s vulnerable and not looking very confident AND I HATE THIS NEW ANASTACIA. Give me back the snarky Anastacia in week one please. Their VW is okay, way too little in hold, and LOL @ Brendan saying many people may not know about “A Thousand Years”. Kimberley Walsh danced to that song THREE TIMES on her series, mind you.
– Okay what’s with the running order this week? I get that Danny just got the pimp slot last week, but to get transported to a death slot? With THAT dance? Were the producers not watching his rehearsal? Anyway, yay for him to deliver for the third straight week! The Paso could be less frantic and stronger in posture for me, but it’s very cinematic and Oti looks like a friggin goddess I’m in love. It’s no Holly Valance though, sorry (TEAM LAZY RICH BITCH 4EVA!)
– Lesley’s keep on surprising me, and while last week she’s not the most memorable (I’m afraid not for this week either), she’s clearly improving as a dancer. Her feet were impressively light, and she travels with more or less ease. Not a fan of a Quickstep with that many times breaking hold, but solid effort from her.
– Great job, Karen. I was just about to warm up to you, but you just had to do a Salsa that had even less content than Abbey’s Saturday Night Fever. I still really like Will, and his dancing’s gotten even better, but even with the theming and all I just can’t with that choreography. He’s great at lifts though, hopefully once Karen gets her shit together he’ll deliver an outstanding AT, AS or Charleston.
– Naga is still very… dry. I thought her cold demeanor would be great for the Tango, but I guess that’s the combination of being reserved + not really having the talent to dance for you = it makes for an uninspired number. I actually agree with the judges, I was ready to cream myself when she did all the staccato, but then she buzzed out to reality, before returning there and then getting buzzed out again. LOL @ Pasha though unable to free her from the harness.
– It’s a shame that the first half of Rinder’s Charleston is littered by mistakes, because he pump it up and the second half was a treat to watch. Also: Katya managing to do that with her legs while being arse-bongoed. Great touch with the handspring as well, and it would merit an 8, but sadly the first half still had too many mistakes.
– Hello Will’s Tango, hello Laura’s Waltz, Ore’s AS is my choice of beef this week: just like the other two, I can’t see the genius here at all. Jason Donovan did a Singin’ in the Rain-themed AS with Kristina several series ago and that was indeed lovely. This was… Okay, I guess. He wasn’t the most graceful, and the lifts aren’t very interesting. Cute ending though, even if it’s also somehow managed to be delivered after the song finished.
– Bruno’s 9 does seem random, but overall I really enjoy Laura really throwing herself into the dance. Sure, it’s messier than her Cha-cha, but she’s committed and she handled the lifts well. A bit hesitant here and there, and Giovanni copied Kara’s Salsa ending, but Laura looks breathtaking with the Moulin Rouge do. Speaking of that, we just got Lady Marmalade two weeks ago, can’t the producers pick something else for Laura’s theme this week?
– Easily my favourite routine of the night. Cheesy opening aside, bam Greg’s AS was incredible. He’s stronger than ever in hold, the chemistry was burning and I LIVED when Natalie flat out HURLED herself into Greg, launching a one-armed floating lift. The singing was really distracting though, but this is my new favourite dance done to that song now (sorry Harry).
– Finally Claudia the Gymnast deliver, about time! Very impressive Charleston, probably my second favorite of the night. See A.J., this is the time where you utilize her abilities as a gymnast in a dance where it requires to be interesting, not in a flipping Waltz. The pie-throwing stuff is hideous though, both on VT and at the end. Also, who styled A.J.’s hair? Forget Bugsy Malone, I thought he’s doing The Danish Girl.
– Wow, three weeks in and I’m still yet to see Tameka doing an elegant Ballroom or a fun party Latin. Their routine is forgettable at best. It felt bland most of the time, even my imagery of what I’ll let Gorka do with that handcuff couldn’t keep me interested. I like that she’s reducing the amount of laughing at herself though, and Gorka’s still very pretty to look at.
– I’ve quite liked Ed’s first two dances, but this one’s a bit of an enigma with me. I liked him and wanted him to do well, and while he did the Samba better than my expectations, I’m not sure what warranted THAT level of reaction from everyone (bar Craig). I’m not really educated in Ballroom dancing, but I can’t identify Samba from that. I see a bit of botafogo, but that’s it. Katya doing 700 spins on her knees near the end was fabulous though.
– This is probably the weirdest dance to ever gotten the pimp slot since Jake’s Greekentine Tango two years ago. Even weirder than last series’ Uncle Jeremy walking around with Karen underground. I really like Louise and have warmed more than ever to Kevin, but how this is a closing-worthy performance, I’ll never know. Her legs were never straight, the choreography was boring as hell and it’s kind of a let down to close a great night. A bit overmarked, if you ask me.
@Vin and @Miss Pompon – how would you guys rank the performances this week?
Mine would be:
1. Greg’s American Smooth
2. Claudia’s Charleston
3. Danny’s Paso Doble
4. Daisy’s Quickstep
5. Judge Rinder’s Charleston
6. Lesley’s Quickstep
7. Ore’s American Smooth
8. Laura’s Salsa
9. Louise’s Cha-cha-cha
10. Will’s “Salsa”
11. Ed’s Samba
12. Tameka’s Tango
13. Anastacia’s Viennese Waltz
14. Naga’s Tango
I’d say bottom two would be Naga and Anastacia, and I hope Anastacia sticks around if that’s the case.
@daniel: I’m going to attempt to make a list but I’m in my phone so if this is a giant paragraph I apologize in advance lol. 1)Danny and oti 2)Claudia and aj 3)Louise and Kevin 4)daisy and aliaz 5)Greg and Natalie 6)ore and Joanne 7)will and Karen 8) Leslie and Anton 9)Anastasia and Brendan 10)judge rinder and oksana 11)Laura and giovanni 12)Naga and pashas tango 13)tamekas tango 14) ed’ samba 🙁 I hope he doesn’t go home this week.
I’d say:
1. Claudia & AJ
2. Danny & Oti
3. Ore & Joanne
4. Louise & Kevin
5. Greg & Nathalie
6. Daisy & Aliaz
7. Tameka & Gorka
8. Will & Karen
9. Laura & Giovanni
10. Ed & Katia
11. Judge Rinder & Oksana
12. Naga & Pasha
13. Anastasia & Brandon
14. Leslie & Anton
Daisy – Liked it. Think she just got steps wrong a couple times, but ok.
Anastasia – Was simple, simple v. waltz, but good.
Danny – Just loving the way he puts himself into the dances. Paso is not easy to get the right posture and I think he did well. Coreography started very good then somethings that don’t clicked in the inbetween, but… good.
Lesley is improving.
Will – just didn’t see salsa.
Naga still not there. There’s no tonus on her dance…
Judge – some mistakes in the begining but a fun to watch as always, and full of tricks wich I love.
Ore – if fit the theme and was very elegant.
Laura – Hm… I liked it but was lacking salsa content.
Greg – it’s interesting because, during the routine, sometimes he goes right and sometimes he’s a mess…
Claudia – fast. Got distracted by her partner’s hair…
Tameka – omg. i’m crying she left. she was so good on footwork. =/
ed – like his commitment
Louise – Liked the choreography and her courage on doing a solo. but, execution… not that good. she was very beautiful btw.
I have to say I am really enjoying SCD. The fact that they do full length dances and ballroom dances is exciting. I’m impressed with all the celebs this year. Loved, loved, loved the opening number with all the movie musicals.
Wish DWTS was more like this and less glitz, fabricated drama with too many contemporary, jazz numbers.
I’m bummed to see tameka go and I’m gonna miss her fun personality. Gorka….that’s a star in the making and I hope he isn’t a one and done pro so please tptb for strictly don’t make that happen. Saying that if we can steal him and he can replace maks or maybe be a troupe member….. I’m down with that.
Hit submit too early: now I’m just going to say it this way becuase honestly I can’t really phrase this better but I’m a bit baffled on some things this week. 1)ed avoided the bottom….which I loved so yay….saying that how long can that last? 2) Laura and Giovanni need to up their game becuase we have seen the showmance are they or anrent they from him last season and to be frank it’s sad that it’s the route he is going this season too. Sorry Giovanni but you are great but deliver on the choreogrpahy please. All I ask. 3)naga and pasha dont seem to be clicking. I’m hoping they are next
While I’m not overly fond of Tameka, she’s a more able dancer than the likes of Ed, Naga and Lesley, so I wished she’d stay longer. Would miss seeing Gorka too, in fact I’ve enjoyed all four new pros to an extent this year. In order they probably go: Oksana > Gorka > Katya > A.J., but I don’t dislike any of them.
Naga is definitely packing some voters on her sleeve, perhaps it’s the Breakfast tie-in? A bit surprising to me that she’s survived two bottom twos now, considering that she doesn’t have the warmest personality a la Carol or the talent like Natasha, let alone Susanna’s bombastic presence. Or maybe it’s Pasha? Pasha sailed through series 9 without a sniff of bottom two with Chelsee anyway.
Also a bit disappointed seeing Laura in the dance-off, I really quite enjoyed her dance (definitely more than her leaderboard-topping Waltz). I hope they tone down the flirty, constantly-gazing-into-your-eyes strategy now, whether it contributed to their fate or not notwithstanding.
I liked almost everyone this year, even the one I found annoying the most (Tameka) is already eliminated. It’d suck to lose them one by one from now on, but as long as it secures Natalie a win, I’d deal with it.
I’m shocked with Will’s departure – hopefully they’ll give him a proper send-off and he’ll tell us what’s the real reason behind him quitting. I really think he’s a sure bet for final six, now it’s a bit more open of a race that a strong dancer is unexpectedly out.
Anyway, this week’s songs and dances:
Anastacia and Brendan will be dancing the Rumba to ‘The Way We Were’ by Barbra Streisand
Claudia and AJ will be dancing the Foxtrot to ‘I Really Like You’ by Carly Rae Jepsen
Daisy and Aljaz will be dancing the Rumba to ‘Careless Whisper’ by Wham! feauring George Michael
Danny and Oti will be dancing the Quickstep to ‘I Won’t Dance’ by Fred Astaire
Ed and Katya will be dancing the Paso Doble to ‘Holding Out For a Hero’ by Bonnie Tyler
Greg and Natalie will be dancing the Salsa to ‘Wrapped Up’ by Olly Murs
Judge Rinder and Oksana will be dancing the Viennese Waltz to ‘Boom Bang-a-Bang’ by Lulu
Laura and Giovanni will be dancing the Quickstep to ‘Ballroom Blitz’ by The Sweet
Lesley and Anton will be dancing the Charleston to ‘Won’t You Charleston With Me’ from The Boy Friend
Louise and Kevin will be dancing the Foxtrot to ‘Tears Dry On Their Own’ by Amy Winehouse
Naga and Pasha will be dancing the Charleston to ‘Minnie the Mermaid’ by Firehouse Five Plus Two
Ore and Joanne will be dancing the Jive to ‘Runaway Baby’ by Bruno Mars
Will and Karen would have been dancing the Viennese Waltz to “Say Something”, by the way. As always another batch of interesting songs. “Tears Dry on Their Own” is now a Foxtrot? Last time it was used for Lisa Snowdon’s Cha-cha, it’s kinda funny actually. Excited for Ore’s song the most, but Alesha did her Paso-oriented Showdance to “Holding Out for a Hero” and I’m curious to see Ed doing a Paso to that.
You’re awesome, Daniel! THANKS!
