I hope you’ve caught up with this series Vogue, since it’s on it’s way to becoming one of my favourite Strictly year ever. Another lovely show, which makes that week 5 night even more bizarre in comparison.
My thoughts:
– Danny is such an attractive man but those pants? Why? He looks like a midget. That, coupled with the hairstyle makes him looks like Gorka’s twin (although I would never deny two Gorkas). Oti, though? Fabulous as always, and love her ponytail whips. The Jive is a good opener and while it’s not as marvelous as Ore, I think it’s JUST one level beneath it, so I’d say the score is fitting.
– All the signs had been leading me to believe that Daisy will have a triumph this week and, well, let’s say it’s still better than the worst I’m expecting. Not exactly glorious, but very nice on it’s own. I do want her to get overmarked just that she could stay dammit! My bias towards her aside, I really think it’s a sweet dance, and while she’s not touching Helen’s divine VW comeback, it’s by no means bad. I’m just not sure anymore – she could be safe or in the bottom two, and I sure as hell don’t hope she fell to the second fate.
– I think Ore possessed the greatest return to form this week. Danny has always been sickeningly great and Louise is still lovely, but his Salsa is the performance I’ve enjoyed the most since his Jive. No faffing about from Joanne, nicely done steps and thoughtful lifts, although the dismount on the last one looks ugly. Much, much better than that damn Waltz.
– Ed has been a pleasant surprise, and while I’ve enjoyed him more than Ore (just Ore though), I’m fine with him leaving now. But him getting overmarked (like pretty much everyone else this week), being in the bottom once again and with the talk of Blackpool has begin (a la Craig Kelly) makes me think he’ll avoid bottom two again. I genuinely like him, but I like everyone else more dancing-wise so nope, I hope he’s not going any further. Not a fan of Katya’s choreography either – a bit too much comedy for me, although he did it as well as he can.
– I wonder where is Craig’s comment from Natalie last week for Giovanni here, if he thought Natalie going all amazing for his Rumba last week is just a cover-up for her partner, then I also thought Giovanni is doing just the same. Him doing pretty much 100 more steps than Laura throughout, topped with a tornado of spinning at the end? At the end I was like, Laura who? She did well with her busted ankle though, I give her that, but she just couldn’t keep up. I’m cackling at Bruno’s determination of giving EVERYTHING she did a 9 though – let’s see in the finale where Laura gets 10, 10, 10, 9 because Bruno just can’t help it.
– Judge Rinder’s best dance! Loved the glamour, loved Oksana’s choreography, loved her glorious frock and loved the dancing. More than anyone though, I think this week could be the point where his support is tested. In the middle of Daisy seemingly gaining support after two dance-offs, Danny and Louise high up there in the heavens and people supporting Greg and Ed, I wonder if he’s still safe. I sure hope so though, although it won’t surprise me if he’ll be in the dance-off with Laura.
– Eh, I’d say three 10s is too much, and Louise is my favourite contestant so far this year, Kevin or no Kevin notwithstanding. She’s just very tentative, so it’s not smooth enough for me, especially in the first half. She picked it up in the second half though, and that table-lift with sliding pose combo is just orgasmic. She did better than my estimation, and Louise is still lovely as ever, but it’s not 39 for me.
– I almost feel bad for Greg having to follow that, but he held his ground really well. Loved Natalie playing bitch 10 seconds into the dance and 10 seconds after while being all smiley through the dance, because she’s just terrifyingly adorable like that at times. Easily Greg’s strongest effort to date (tied with his AS), although I still like Ore’s return to form better. I’m not sure I want him to win any longer though, not even at Natalie’s expense of the glitterball.
– Okay, a confession here: Claudia probably holds my interest the least this series – as a contestant. At least Naga, her dryness aside, had me looking forward seeing her, I don’t get why people think Louise and Daisy aren’t engaging (because I do think they are) and I enjoyed all of everyone else to some extent. Even some of my least favourite personalities of the bunch, like Ore and Tameka, managed to kept me going with them. Claudia? Not so much. The fact that she’s bloody inconsistent doesn’t sit well with me either, and holy cow, A.J. we get it Paso is your favourite but try not to make Claudia looks so inferior in comparison, would ya? So, yeah, decent dancing, although not really closing-worthy, but I no longer sure I want her in my ideal finale.
My prediction for the dance-off: Laura and Daisy
My own dance-off: Ed and Laura or Claudia, with Ed going
Watched the show live for the first time all season so I thought I’d post a few thoughts!
I firmly disagree on Katya. Her choreography is a big factor in Ed still being in the competition. He’s entertaining but also dancing, Katya managed to turn a quickstep (normally a fairly boring ballroom dance) into something entertaining that will have attracted votes. I said it week 1 and I’ll say again, Ed Balls will get to Blackpool (sorry Cidra)!
I think Laura is likely toast this week, she had the hardest dance and the two couples below her have big built in fanbases. I think Daisy will get a sympathy bounce that will keep her safe this week, there’s been a lot of talk about why she isn’t getting votes in the media, the likes of Len have spoken on the radio about it. To be honest it could be anyone from Rinder, Claudia or even Ore who joins Laura in the bottom two. All three of those were fairly unmemorable although Rinder endeared himself to voters after his dance and also has a fanbase. I hope Laura goes though, I can’t stand her arrogant pro and she just does nothing to endear me to her.
Ok so I’m just going to start with the ones I liked And my top 5 in that exact order (honestly the rest were ok but any of them could land in the danceoff and go this week and I wouldn’t be phased). Those five are: Kevin and lousie, Danny and oti, ore and Joanne, Claudia and aj, and Greg and Natalie. Then I can easily seperate the rest into wouldn’t watch again in this order: judge rinder and oksana, Greg and Natalie, Daisy and aliaz, Laura and Giovanni, and ed and Katya. In a perfect world, ed and Laura in he danceoff. Expecting to see daisy and Greg though.
@M8 I’m actually referring on Katya’s choreography for this week only. In the past I’ve loved her Waltz, Charleston and Cha-cha choreos for Ed, and I generally think she’s the second best newcomer in terms of choreo after Oksana, but this time the comedy bits didn’t work for me. And I’m a fan of Laurel and Hardy.
I’ve seen the spoiler, and all I can say is that I’m relieved 🙂
To be honest I’m a bit disappointed that this year’s Blackpool is once again on week 9, I really like it when we have a bit more dances on the tower, so eight celebs competing > seven, for me. Because many people still have the Samba (and obviously AT), I think Blackpool will consist of a good chunk of those two, with one Charleston, Paso or Jive around.
How would you guys rank the performances this week? Mine goes:
1. Judge Rinder and Oksana
2. Danny and Oti
3. Louise and Kevin
4. Daisy and Aljaz
5. Ore and Joanne
6. Greg and Natalie
7. Claudia and A.J.
8. Ed and Katya
9. Laura and Giovanni
Not gonna say that I wasn’t surprised to see Laura in the dance off but ore was a surprise for sure. Saying that, this was one of the results you kinda know the result of immediately. Honestly, ive given up hope that we would be gone before blackpool at this point lol.
