Sharna Burgess Hoping To Be Back For The Dancing With The Stars Semi-Finals

Sharna Burgess tells Entertainment Tonight that she’s hoping to be back for the semi-finals next week on Dancing With The Stars. However, she’ll have a back up plan just in case she can’t. more below. Be sure to read the link for more.

During next week’s show, which airs Monday night at 8 p.m. ET on ABC, the remaining couples will be paired off for a trio of team dances. Burgess is planning on taking the stage with Hinchcliffe, as well as Jenna Johnson, who has been filling in as the IndyCar racer’s pro partner.

“For our trio, we have Jenna,” Burgess confirmed to ET. “We wanted to keep #TeamStopAndGo going. We’ve been together for the last two weeks and we felt like we would love to have her as part of our trio, so Jenna is going to be working with us. And also, we have Argentine Tango this week, which is amazing!”

“There’s a backup plan if I can’t do it,” she added. “It’s going to be a last-minute decision again, but there is obviously another person who is going to learn and step in, if I can’t actually do it.”

ETA: From E Online. She’ll be back!! YAY Thanks to Abby for the heads up.

She’s back, babies! Sharna Burgess is off the Dancing With the Stars sidelines and returning to the dance floor with IndyCar driver James Hinchcliffe for the Monday, Nov. 14 show. The two have been rehearsing after a knee injury sidelined Sharna. Professional dancer Jenna Johnson competed with James in her place.

“The last two weeks were really tough, but certainly worth the wait and getting healthy,” Sharna told E! News in an exclusive statement. “And now I can officially say I am back! I am feeling great and so excited to be back dancing with James this week! It has been amazing to watch him deliver such great performances these past two weeks, but I am so excited to be back in for the semi-finals and take James to the finale!!”

PureDWTS Season 23, Week 9 – Power Rankings

As we head into what promises to be a very historic and contentious election day, I think we witnessed something relatively historic and contentious last night on DWTS: I think we might have just seen Derek bid farewell to the show, once and for all.  Because history does repeat itself: Marilu got Nastia’d.  Got the same “bad edit” treatment that they gave Nastia a year and a half ago, which resulted in her elimination from a season that on paper, she probably could have easily won, had there not been an agenda at work. And Derek was uncharacteristically vocal about how unhappy he was with the edit they were given – so was his partner.  If there are still any concern trolls lurking here that want to comment on the “tension” or “awkwardness” or “frustration” in Marilu & Derek’s package last week, do yourselves a favor and go read the two posts I just linked to first. Then go watch season 1 of UNReal on Hulu Plus. Let it sink in.  Start to question things.  Because I’m starting to think the line between reality and script is getting dangerously blurry for some of you…

…for what it’s worth, though, I thought Marilu went out on a high note.  I think her samba was the most relaxed and in-the-zone we’ve seen her since “Most Memorable Year” week.  I think she & Derek should be really proud of how they did – and both of them can leave with their heads held high.  I think Marilu left with a bit fewer stars in her eyes about DWTS (but with a much more grounded view), and I think Derek finally got the push he needed to leave a relationship that he has outgrown and has become toxic for him (the one he has with DWTS, NOT the one he has from Marilu – I’ve noticed the Marilu detractors are big fans of deliberately misinterpreting and twisting my words).  Onto bigger and better things for both of them. And I thought Mark did a spectacular Frankie Valli vocal.  🙂

As for those that remain – I found myself rolling my eyes and yawning more than usual last night, and the bulk of the eye-rolls and yawns involved the Jana & Laurie love-fest that we were subjected to.  Make no mistake – there was an agenda behind those perfect scores.  It all but guaranteed both would make the finals, although I’m having some pretty serious doubts about Jana – this is how many times we’ve seen her as one of the last two standing up there at the end of the night? Heidi would have to remind me, but the last time we saw consecutive repeat appearances of a couple in the last two standing was Apolo & Karina during all-stars, I believe  – and they were eliminated just shy of the finale.  With last night’s theme appearing to be “history repeating itself”, I don’t think it’s entirely out of the realm of possibility that Jana could be in some pretty deep sh*t, votes-wise.  Since all that was handed out last night was 9’s & 10’s, I’m going to venture a guess that the margins are actually going to end up being rather small – meaning it’s pretty much going to be up to the fans who advances to the finals and who doesn’t.  And there could be some surprises. PureDWTS Season 23 Week 9 – Media, Scores, And Interviews After The Show

What a great night of dancing last night. I was “wowed” by all the couples in some way, but, more on that in Courtney’s new Power Ranking post coming up in a bit. Be watching for it as always and get your reviews ready. For now, let’s review the scores…

Jana Kramer and Gleb Savchenko (Waltz): 10-10-10-10 from the judges for a perfect 40.
Laurie Hernandez and Val Chmerkovskiy (Argentine Tango): 10-10-10-10 from the judges for a perfect 40.
Terra Jole and Sasha Farber (Charleston): 10-10-9-9 from the judges for a total of 38.
Calvin Johnson, Jr. and Lindsay Arnold (Waltz): 9-9-10-9 from the judges for a total 37.
James Hinchcliffe and Jenna Johnson (subbing for the injured Sharna Burgess) (Jazz): 9-9-9-9 from the judges for a total of 36.
Marilu Henner and Derek Hough (Samba): 9-9-9-9 from the judges for a total of 36.

THE TEAM DANCES:
James & Calvin Team Dance (Paso): 9-9-10-9 from the judges for a total of 37.
Marilu & Terra Team Dance (Jazz): 9-9-9-9 from the judges for a total of 36.
Jana & Laurie Team Dance (Contemporary): 10-10-10-10 for a perfect 40.

For Media starters, People has a few recaps and interviews up. Be sure to read what they have here (and they may post more later). Note that Sharna is still unsure if she will be back next week. I hope she takes all the time she needs to heal up. We want this girl dancing for a long time to come (we are with you all the way on this, Sharna!xx).

But with two weeks left in the season, Burgess is still unsure what her future on the ABC reality dance competition will be.

“I want to say 100 percent,” she said of her chances of being back next week. “But I genuinely thought I 100 percent would be back this week, so it’s hard for me to throw that number out there.”

“I just have to take it day by day and continue to make the right decision for my career,” she continued. “But it’s really difficult. I love every single thing about this season with James. It’s my favorite season and I don’t want to miss out on any of it.”

Then there is this from Glamour:

James wants nothing more than to have his leading lady back, but also knows she has to do what’s best for her long-term health. “Every step I’ve ever taken on a dance floor up until week 8 was with this woman. Every thing I’ve ever learned about dance was from this woman. Losing your rock essentially is incredibly difficult. It helps having her there for rehearsal, but it’s not the same. It isn’t. It’s an extra element we’ve had to deal with as a team. Jenna stepped in and has been great, and no doubt helped out a lot, but I want [Sharna] back on the floor as soon as possible. But I understand. I’m really proud of her because she had [the clear] to dance tonight, but she took care of her knee.”

Added Sharna: “I made a mistake 16 years ago to continue dancing when I shouldn’t, and I ended up with an ACL reconstruction. I wasn’t about to make that mistake this season and be out the rest of this season, out for the tour, out for next season. I, as much as every bone in my body wants to dance on that floor with James, I have to play this right. [Still] it sucks being an adult and making grownup decisions!”

Let’s hope and pray Gleb will be ok too and that he’s not over doing it….

Gleb Savchenko went to immediately ice his knee after the show, but Jana stuck around. “Gleb’s in a lot of pain, but he didn’t want me to dance with anybody else, and that means the world to me.” What about Jana’s rib injury, which viewers haven’t heard much about since earlier in the season? “It still hurts, honestly, but it’s one of those things where it gets better every week. Gleb knows now to touch me there.”

With only two weeks left in the competition, what’s next for Jana after the show? “I’m really looking forward to the holidays. It’ll be my first holiday with my baby girl.” On the career front, “the winter time is a slow time in the business, so I’ll be able to…think about what my next steps are. There’s a lot of moving parts right now, so I want to make the best decision for my family.”
