Wendy Williams And Jimmy Kimmel’s Thoughts And Predictions For Dancing With The Stars Season 24
I always enjoy Wendy Williams And Jimmy Kimmel’s thoughts and predictions on Dancing With The Stars every season. I won’t spoil this for you. Be sure to listen when you get a chance and let us know what you think.
This isn’t the first time DWTS has invited a star with dance experience. Nicole Scherzinger, Alfonso Ribeiro, Kristi Yamaguchi, Jennifer Grey, Donny Osmond, and Meryl Davis, all had dance training prior to the show, and they all won. Also, athletes have done well, because they can “move”. In fact, it is the exception and not the rule when a non-entertainer or athlete wins. Heather Morris doesn’t have any more dance training than the others, she just danced with someone who is popular right now. Wendy Williams is going about this all wrong. Don’t go after Heather. Go after the producers who invited her on the show and makes suggestions to change the format. Wendy complained about the same thing when she was a contestant dancing against Meryl and Charlie.
Melinda, go read this post: https://www.puredwts.com/2017/03/10/puredwts-season-24-debate-battle-of-the-ringers-what-makes-heather-morris-so-ringer-y/
And then see if you still feel so high and mighty…
I thought Jennifer Grey had only danced while Dirty Dancing was being made when she was in her 20s (she was 50 when she was on DWTS). None of those others that Melinda mentioned were professional dancers. Heather is a pro dancer – they could have offered her a troupe spot.
Did Wendy make a prediction about who would win? If so, I missed it. I agree with Jimmy Kimmel that his choice has a great shot, but I still think Simone has the best chance of winning.
No, she just told her thoughts mainly.
Pardon my bluntness, but bullshit, Melinda. You don’t know what you’re talking about (and clearly, neither does Maks, but he’s prob grasping at straws at this point). Heather doesn’t have more training than the others? Maybe not in WALKING, but in dancing? Definitely more.
If you don’t GET the difference between having “some experience” and being a professional dancer? Yeah, read the link Court gave you and shut up. If I was a professional dancer on this show and was told that Nicole or Jennifer (or Alfonso, et al) had just as much training as me, I would be PISSED. It’s very denigrating.
So tired of fucking false equivalencies – it makes people look stupid who might not be, simply because they don’t THINK.
Jennifer only danced while doing Dirty Dancing – and then it was ONE dance. But she did go to a performing arts school when dance is part of the curriculum. But still – not a professional dancer and, as we’ve said for others like Alfonso, there is a point where your age cancels out any previous experience you had. Particularly when you have screws in your neck.
Many of the people listed by Melinda (and why Meryl but not Charlie, eh? Winning ain’t everything) are so VASTLY eclipsed by Heather that’s it’s a ridiculous comparison. You want to equate dancing in high school (Jennifer) or a girl band that does chest pumps (Nicole) or a guy who took a couple weeks of ballroom before the show (Donny – who was 50) and ice skater long past her Olympic days (Kristi) with a 30-year old professional dancer who trained since she was 2 and got paid for dancing with Beyonce? You’re not acting very bright.
Wendy wasn’t on the same season as Charlie and Meryl. I used to like her show but it seems her audience doesn’t have a opinion of their own and just agrees with everything she says. I doubt she even watches dwts and makes her staff watch for her. Anywho, ringers don’t always win so I’m not too bothered by the heather thing nor do I agree they need to kick her off. As for my pick. I’m pulling for Sasha or Emma to win it since they finally have contenders. At the end of the day, I just wanna see good dancing lol
Who said Wendy was on the same season as Charlie & Meryl…? I don’t think anyone is arguing that.
Samantha, thank you for pointing out my error. I meant to say Wendy was very vocal during Meryl and Charlie’s season. I agree with you, Heather shouldn’t be kicked off the show as Wendy suggested in the video clip. In my opinion, any negativity should go in the direction of the producers who hired Heather, not to her. There are many interesting couples who will be competitive this season. Let the dancing begin!
The one thing I really disagree with Wendy on is her suggestion that they realize that the audience is upset and kick Heather off the show. To me, that’s going down a dangerous path that would set a precedent of massive manipulation for future seasons that goes far beyond the levels of manipulation we already see. In my mind, once someone has been cast, announced, and begun participating in the show, they are a contestant until they are eliminated in the normal way unless something extraordinary happens. When I say something extraordinary, I mean the contestant withdraws, the contestant cheats (and no, Heather being a professional dancer is not Heather herself cheating, that’s an incorrect casting decision), or the contestant creates a hostile work environment for the cast and/or crew. If the viewers in general really are upset (like I am) about this casting decision, that will become obvious when she receives few votes and is eliminated far earlier than a professional dancer reasonably should be. Hopefully then the producers will understand that similar future casting decisions will not contribute to a show that people are interested in and want to watch.
@m – I agree with that – while I agree with Wendy that Heather being on the show is a bit ridiculous, she’s here now, and I don’t see a need to boot her off. And in the free market voting economy of DWTS, viewer disapproval of casting decisions is usually reflected in votes – and I don’t see TPTB doing a whole lot to save her in terms of scores if she ain’t gettin’ the votes. Do I think casting her is a crock? Yes. Do I think there’s anything that can/should be done about it now? No. Do I wish TPTB would stop insulting everyone’s intelligence with their self-contradictory statements about Heather being a ringer but not being at an advantage due to her dance background? Absolutely. Honestly, if the show/Heather/Maks had come out from the beginning and just said “Yes, I’m a professional dancer. I haven’t done ballroom, but I’m hoping to be a fast learner and put on a good show for everyone and stick around for awhile to enjoy the experience!”, I probably would have just let it be at that.
@Courtney Yes, I completely agree with all of that. I don’t want them to go to the crazy measure that Wendy suggests. I’d be extremely pleased if they took a more moderate approach and stopped actively trying to distort the reality of her advantage.
Heather should never have been hired to do the show. And honestly, it seems craven to accept an offer to do the show when you know you’re a professional dancer – so I don’t really buy the “it’s the producers fault” angle. It’s all well and good to claim “I’ve never done ballroom” but what about Jazz and contemporary?? Those have been featured pretty heavily in recent seasons and no one can convince me that Heather will be “just another celeb” when it comes time to do those. Hell, she’s been paid to do those.
I DO agree that they can’t kick her off now, I should add. But that’s a typically stupid suggestion of the sort you see on Wendy’s show all the time.
Yes to all that, Courtney, and I’ll even add that it’s never been actual ringers that we’ve had issues with. It’s the massive hypocrisy that people getting said ringers (Maks and Val) exhibit – jesus the whining and complaining from Maks and Erin when Derek had Nicole. Shouts of unfairness, etc. etc. etc. They were so rude – Erin even apologized to Derek not that long ago. Then on top of that, the ridiculous denial that they have any sort of advantage over others. That was at least plausible when it was someone like Jennifer, and others, but definitely NOT in regard to Heather.
And on top of that, Val has many more seasons with ringers, than he’s had without (1.5). So he can STFU about his “average” score and any other petty BS he wants to whip out as an excuse.
Tell you the truth, I refuse to watch the video clip with Wendy Williams-I am Soo not a fan of her lol. Is that what she’s saying? That Heather should be kicked off the show now that the season has started? Uh too little too late for that? LOL That would be just silly. Just let the girl continue on and see what happens at this point-there are competitors who are, so far week one, proving to be better than her so….????
As far as blaming the producers? Yeah you could blame them all you want. Yell at them on social media perhaps lol. I am still hoping that the qualifications for contestants change in the future but….
Some people watch the show for the dancing right away, and not the really improved over a couple of weeks. People with experience rarely win. Models rarely win. Soap opera actors never win. and so on. Producers can’t make a perfect decision. They put out a group of 12 and let the voters decide. Did Wendy really think she had a chance of winning? I’m happy with a good mix and that we see a real competition this season. Last year it was pretty clear who would win before they danced. This season there are at least 4 who have a good chance at winning and three of them are performers.
Imagine comparing Heather Morris to Jennifer Grey! If I had a drink I’d have just spat it out.
