ETA2: According to ABC, Alan Bersten will be dancing for Maks.
Week 2 and the injuries are starting. Dang.
Alan filling in?? will be huge for him if so… don’t see anyone else getting asked.
Well I bet we just found out who will be performing last tonight.
Am I the only one that finds it hilarious that we’re finding out on GMA that Maks is injured & may not dance tonight? It’s as if GMA has become the Chmerkovskiy bros personal news outlet whenever they need to announce something.
It sure makes one wonder, Court. I was shocked they didn’t report on it Friday night or over the weekend on TMZ or something like they usually do.
Is this the same injury he had with Kristi Alley. He was back the next week that time.
@Vogue – Lol right? When Sharna was hurt last season, TMZ broke the news like an hour or two before showtime. It was almost as if Maks called GMA to let them know he was hurt before he even called the doctor 😛
LOL Yep!
How can he already be injured week 2? Seriously? Not to make light of the situation or accuse him of anything but jeez….
The older you get, the greater the toll this level of activity takes on your body. And dancing with a massive ringer means he has to push himself (or should push himself) harder than he ever has before.
I’m not terribly surprised – dancing is no joke and when you’ve been doing it for as long as Maks has been, you’re dealing with chronic issues.
I never in a million years thought I would say this – “I DON’T BELIEVE IT” –
Maks is at the point of doing anything to get attention or pull a PR stunt. I hope he is not seriously hurt.
I have been such a fan of his for yrs. He’s gotten a little nuts this past yr. I know he is excited about his child. I’m really and truly happy for him. However, this man will say and do anything for attention and to be among the “top” three (3) – just saying.
I do believe Maks is hurt. It’s just the whole GMA thing just makes me shake my head and go “Really? This warranted an announcement on GMA?” Just seems like overkill. The last several times a pro has gotten hurt, either TMZ has leaked it, or we, DWTSGossip, or Kristyn have leaked it. It’s not something that a mainstream outlet like GMA announces – hell, if anything, the show tries to keep everyone guessing “Will they or won’t they dance???” by mentioning it at the top of the show and then dragging it out for as long as possible. The fact that it appears to be Maks using GMA as his own personal mouthpiece again just bugs – he did the same thing back in season 13 when he basically did a satellite interview about his comments back at the judges the night before. Not really a big deal, in the grand scheme of things, but Maks had to call a freaking press conference.
If Maks is sidelined for a few weeks or so would that maybe damage Heather’s chances of sticking around long? Or will the Chmerkovskiy minions power vote to see him and Heather dance again? I wonder if it’s gonna play out like with Nastia and Derek? Not that Derek or Nastia were planning on Derek getting injured (and likewise Maks or Heather in Maks’s case), but I feel like the sympathy votes poured in heavily (aside from the usual Derek and Nastia fanbase) or maybe I’m off base. Their situations are quite different from one another, Heather is currently a taboo topic (with her prior dance experience) while Nastia was unfairly molded into a controversial topic by TPTB (way later in the game), maybe Heather might get a FEW sympathy votes thrown her way. It wouldn’t be much, but possibly enough to push her past the early outs. Okay, on a side note though does anyone else wish it was Val injured and not Maks? At least Maks is throwing enough challenging choreography Heather’s way to promote an injury it seems like.
Also I was sure she would be an early out (like week 3 or 4) but now I’m not as sure. We’ll see how TPTB manipulates this situation into a win-win for all parties involved, or HOPEFULLY tptb will let the chips fall where they may and Heather is out shortly.
Well, that’s pretty typical Maks and Val – everything they do is bigger, better, larger, never before seen, hugely important. So, pull a calf muscle, call a press conference. They’re legends in their own minds. 🙂
@Nick – I never thought Heather was going to be an early out – we’ve still got some weaker dancers to weed through until she even becomes an elimination risk. However, I do think she could possibly go out earlier than one would anticipate, given her skill set – like maybe only making it to the quarterfinal. As for Maks possibly being out – I don’t know that it would necessarily hurt Heather in terms of votes (his fans would still be voting with the hopes that if they kept Heather in long enough, Maks might be able to return to dancing with her; plus there seems to be a growing legion of Alan fans that would probably start throwing her votes as well); but my concern (if I were them) would be “Do TPTB care as much about Heather now that Maks is out?” Given that they seemed to want this season dominated by the Chmerkovskiy brothers + Peta, if Maks were to suddenly be out for the season, is it really even worth it to keep Heather around? I don’t mean to imply that they would engineer a way to get her out – I’m more inclined to think that they just wouldn’t really lift a finger to help her out, if that makes sense. Perhaps if she & Maks were struggling for votes, they might get heaped with praise and and overly-kind score; but if it’s Heather & Alan, and they’re struggling…maybe TPTB just lets the chips fall where they may.
Damn, that sucks. Hopefully it’s not serious and he’s only out 1 week. Even if I don’t always like the choreo of his jives, I usually love watching Maks Jive. Crossing my fingers for a speedy recovery. And I had the same thought as you, Courtney- if Maks is out I think Heather could be in trouble if she doesn’t connect (more than I thought). Even without TPTB, will Maks fanbase keep voting for Heather if he’s out? Or will they all go to Val?
As for GMA, I wonder how much control DWTS has over stuff like that. I don’t remember a lot of “pro is injured” stuff on GMA, but I think they did a piece on Derek when he was injured during Nastia’s season.
Thanks for answering my questions Courtney. ?
I think it was a little bit different with Derek, Chayse. Derek was performing 8 shows a week at Radio City in addition to doing DWTS – that was pretty noteworthy (and not very smart).
I don’t think Heather’s votes will increase with Maks out. There certainly isn’t a legion of Alan fans out there that will come crawling out of the woodwork. I remember it getting shoved down our throats that there were loads of Jenna fans out there in the woodwork and she ended up getting eliminated first.
If Maks is smart he’ll keep himself in the spotlight, do what Derek did with Nastia and do all the choreography and sit in on rehearsals while he’s injured. If he goes off the grid completely I think that’ll be a blow for Heather. Alan isn’t a big name and as Court said, I don’t think TPTB will be inclined to help her as much without Maks.
I said “growing legion”, M8. There ARE Alan fans, and we got hit by quite a few during Paige’s season when he filled in for Mark – hell, at the beginning of last season and this one, I still got questions about “Did they make Alan a pro yet??? God I sure hope they do, he deserves it!!!” Are they as numerous as the Val fans or the Sharna fans? No. But they are out there, and I don’t think the extra votes they give are going to hurt Heather.
As for Jenna not doing well – she also had a partner that was completely outside the realm of familiarity for most viewers, and he was a sh*tty dancer with a “f*ck it” personality. You can’t rely solely on a pro’s fanbase to carry his partner, unless you’re Derek (and possibly Mark, sometimes Val).
Access Hollywood Live showed a clip of Max getting hurt and it almost looked like an Achilles injury. I sure hope it’s not that bad. The interview was shown today but taped on Friday.
Also, Max did mention how Peta and Val both have 2 mirror balls and he only has 1.
Heather seems lovely and sweet. Max says his favorite celeb this season is David.
I’m making a banner to hang over my TV tonight. It says “Legion of Alan!”
Alan seems like a humble and patient teacher and we could use more guys like that on the show. I’ve been stumping for him.
I don’t know if I’ll feel as compelled to vote for Alan and Heather though as I did for Alan and Paige.
One C-Bro down, hopefully the other will follow suit.
The difference being, M8, that Derek is a legit choreographer. Maks? Not so much. He might benefit from outside (read: Alan) input.
I actually feel that Alan did an excellent, excellent job as the professional partner to Heather. Just do not know what Len was talking about. Len probably had razor blades for dinner. He was simply terrible tonight.
Alan is a professional dancer doing a jive on National TV. If he couldn’t do an excellent job he shouldn’t be there.
