Dancing with the Stars Season 24, Week THREE – Who’s Dancing What…and When?
I dunno…is there anything that sounds like it could be worse than Vegas Week? I can’t think of anything.
Vogue: According to Maks’ instagram, Heather and Alan have a Tango next week. Thanks to Nathan for the heads up.
Court: According to Glamour, Nick has tango to “Poker Face”. Cause you play poker in Vegas. Get it??? 😛
Vogue: Nancy has a Samba according to her new blog…and she’s looking forward to it. Be sure to read it here.
ETA: Lori tells me that the DWTS instagram implies that Simone has a Jive to something Elvis. Hence the question marks. ~Heidi

Heidi, I am so praying Las Vegas week will be like Cirque De Sol last season. *fingers crossed
Something seems off to me with Maks. Knowing how enamored he is with his role as a father and how Alan gets coached by Val and is part of the FAM, I have a feeling Maks wil be out for the rest of the season to be fully present with and for his son…and have Alan take over with Heather.
I may be assuming and looking way too into it, but Maks is not a good liar and not saying he lied but when he spoke to Erin after their performance he just seemed a bit wishy washy with his statements.
But, I hope Charo gets to show off her guitar talents next week…maybe an AT or something slower.
Voguerista, that’s what I was thinking!!
What is Normani dancing? I hope a tango
The way I keep seeing it described (I’ve just seen this on social media, so I’m not sure if people are just assuming or if they actually know something) is that it’s basically any Vegas show. A Cirque show, someone who has a residency there, etc.
Not sure if that’s true because that would seem to be even harder to clear than just Cirque was, but who knows?
When I think of Vegas week I automatically thought of headliners and production value so maybe songs by current and past Vegas headliners?
Hello everyone,
I have a question.. i just saw on twitter that Alan will be choreographing for Heather till Maks is back? Is it true? I am not sure of the source of this news, but saw many fans saying that Alan will be choreographing next week’s routine..?
Nancy has samba according to her US Olympic team blog
Ugh I’m not looking forward to Vegas week-sounds like it could be full of cheesy, cringeworthy stuff lol ?
Isn’t Mak going home to New York to see someone there for his injury?
Alan said it last night post show in an Access Hollywood interview. That he would choreograph this week’s routine that he will perform with Heather and they will face time with Maks.
Now, I feel that I should preface this with the fact that I don’t especially like either of the C-brothers as pros. And I did see that Maks is injured/cannot dance right now. But I do wonder about Maks’ sudden seeming disinterest in this season and the partnership that he was thrilled with before the shit about Heather’s background hit the fan. I totally believe that Maks wanted to return to win another MBT, as he’s said sooooooo many times already. And he said TPTB told him they had a great partner for him. He’d just have to travel for a couple of weeks at the beginning. Maks said he didn’t think he could do that. Then they partnered him with Heather…… But by now, surely it’s obvious even to the thick headed that Heather isn’t an east trip to the win for anyone on DWTS. So this gives Maks a perfect “excuse” for not winning with the ringiest ringer ever.
Need link, Jenn.
Shouldn’t you know, Jazz, since you’re her biggest fan and all.
We post the dances when we find them out. Period.
Lilian, those particular fans have a tendency to talk out of their ass. Do you have a link or some valid source for this? Because it would be quite unusual if it were true.
I’m not gonna lie, I really hope Vegas Night means they actually go to Vegas and film the show on location there, like Blackpool Week on Strictly.
I really hope they give Nancy and Artem a better dance order this week. If anyone Nancy can nail the Samba if she has a chance to settle in.
Lindsay put a Instastory of her and David flying to Vegas.
Yes, it’s true, Lilian. Why don’t you see for yourself in some of the interviews we’ve posted.
Ter, if you read all the things published today, you might find the answer to your question.
Saw an interview today from Access Hollywood that Maks will actually have a surgery for his calf injury and will be out for 3 wks to 3 months. I was wondering how they were going to handle the choreo credit. It is still possible for Maks to design a dance, and Allen & Heather would execute his choreo as Derek did when injured. If he needs to be elsewhere in the country (is he using Sharna’s Dr in the midwest?), then who would get credit/MBT if she actually won?
For whatever it’s worth to anyone, I am pretty excited to see what Alan brings to the table. When he was with Paige for her Salsa and Trio and with Jana he was pretty legit. Now with Heather I really want to see what he’s capable of. I’m not a huge fan of anyone in particular pros wise (More of a Strictly fan) but Alan has peaked my curiosity.
Huge difference between filling in and being “the guy” including having to do the choreo. Of course, if Serge is helping both Maks and Peta as rumored, then maybe it won’t be a big deal.
Yeah, I’d imagine it’ll be Serge and Alan doing it as a duo with Maks on constant facetime checking in. I had a feeling someone was originally helping Maks because I couldn’t have imagined him choreographing that hip hop section in their jive (is he even trained in hip hop?). Serge ghosting now explains it.
So, this adds another layer of complexity. If Serge & Alan are doing choreo, with Alan dancing and they won (hypothetically), who would get the MBT for their bookshelf? (I really liked Serge when he was on)
So, if Serge is choreographing for Maks, Alan is dancing for Maks, then what is Maks getting paid for? Better yet, why is he on the show this season…
I am liking Artem more and more each season. I know nothing about dancing steps or format, I love DWTS for the personalities and the beautifyl costumes, and fun! I thought Artem very respectfully cared for Maureen last season and I think he is such a gentleman with Nancy.I throw some votes to Nancy because I think she is happy to dance and I like her humble gratitude. Over the seasons I have grown to like him better but my favorites this season are EMMA and SASHA! Thanks mods for this site, I really appreciate your work!
It would be cool it have a week every season where they go to Vegas like they do at Blackpool for strictly. Heather will prob have “Toxic” by Britney Spears since that was her characters idol on glee
If need be Heather can always chip in and handle the choreography… No worries. Alan/Serge is in good hands.
As far as Maks goes, I was shocked that either he or Peta decided to leave the baby to dance this season. Would have thought they’d want more than a few weeks before dumping him on the help. Also thought Alan would have been promoted fron Troupe to pro before now. They’ve been featuring him for several seasons.
@Tony – But how is “Toxic” related to Vegas?
@Carol – Your answer: the trophy goes in the display case at DWM, like any other trophy won by Maks, Val, Peta, or Tony. It’s not an individual win, it’s a win for the group, even if only one of them actually did the work.
Serge was ok with me until he tried to accuse Derek of copying Meryl & Maks’ tango. Then I realized he was just another DWM shill.
Since Alan has been on the show I have never loved him. For me he just does not grab my attention when there is more than one professional dancing. I guess I think he is just ok (I feel the same way about Britney on troupe) But the male lineup really needs some work in this show, specially with the girls giving them a run for their money (Lindsey, Sharna, Emma, Kym, Peta, etc) so I’m open to give him a chance to be a pro, choreograph and guide the star to see how he does.
Yeah, DWM shills who will hypocritically criticize Derek at ever turn, but who will also harass people outside Radio City to try to get Derek’s fans to buy tickets to their shows.
And isn’t Serge the one who went on Afterbuzz and accused Sadie of lying about having dance experience? Then tried to say he was just complimenting her?
Britney Spears has a show in vegas so I wouldn’t Be shocked if they want to play the glee card too.
Sounds like something Serge would do, Molly. He was pretty bitter about anyone not connected to DWM. That whole group made a habit of denigrating Derek (and Mark to a much lesser extent) by implying that anything good they did was because their partner had plenty of experience. Interesting they don’t apply the same logic when it’s so obviously true about Maks and Val.
@Coutrney Yes Britney has a Vegas show
I thought Serge distanced himself from that group for a while, but he must need them and seems to be back in the fold. I notice he also has babysitting duties these days, when he’s not choreographing for Peta.
I feel like Vegas Week will be Charro’s time to shine hard, or GTFO. Charro headlined and hosted a lot of Vegas things back in the day. She is great in that environment, it’s like her natural habitat.
This is probably way too obvious (and dated) as a song choice, but I would love to see Bonner and Sharna dance a quickstep to Kenny Roger’s “The Gambler.” I could see Bonner costumed in chaps and vest and Sharna in a dancehall costume from the late 1800’s.
Kenny Rogers and the Gambler, for Bonner hmmm I guess that’s a slow Quickstep. Woody from Toy Story is going to get type cast as the guy who only dances to country with a cowboy hat.
Fingers crossed that Simone go to “blue suede shoes” and not jailhouse rock..(that seems to be one of their go to songs)
Noting an earlier omment about Afterbuzz; is that still happening. I stopped listening to it last season because it was awful but I had not seen any mention of the program until now. Wanted to know if it had improved and just suspended following DWTS.
Thanks.
Katy, I quit watching Afterbuzz when Kristen Burtt left. I didn’t enjoy the new crew.
TBH, the DWTS Afterbuzz in the Kristyn era was the only Afterbuzz worth watching, and I credit Kristyn with keeping that train on the tracks. I tried watching the America’s Got Talent Afterbuzz once, and I about shivved myself in the neck with a sharpened toothbrush out of sheer boredom. The host was the most blase, disinterested flake, and you could tell that she didn’t really want to be there, and the two dudes she had with her acted like they were stoned. The Sons of Anarchy one wasn’t much better…and now that the Kristyn-era group is gone from DWTS, it’s equally as shitty. Shame.
The Elvis song could be “Viva Las Vegas.”
#33 PH. I am disgusted by this and didnt know how low the FAM would go to either discredit Derek or capitalize on Derek’s success. I have continued boycotting this show, and only watch David and Lindsay on YT. The manipulation and deceit should not be supported. I do not have a vendetta about Pros using outside choreographers…..only that use of choreographers is not transparent to the viewing audience. Choreographers work hard and should be given credit for their efforts. I would love to see Lindsay reach out to Derek and Mark this season for assistance with helping David shine. She does a great job, but might achieve a whole other level with a bit of male coaching by 2 of the finest. Thanks for listening and I greatly appreciate the insight you offer here. Sorry to say, I am one of the original, rabid, DWTS fans who soured on the manipulation and loss of excellence quite a while ago.
Thanks for the update on Afterbuzz. Too bad as I enjoyed it before they changed the the personnel. Maybe the mods should do their own Pure Afterbuzz….?
Press release just came out and Jean was right about the Elvis song!
I’m fully expecting Bonner and Sharna to do Toy Story on Disney night. Bonner is the spitting image of Woody LOL.
Wow, they gave Lindsay and David ‘Candy Shop’ by 50 cent. I’m interested to see how she goes about choreographing this dance. I mean its a song about a girl sucking a guys dick and sex. Odd choice.
Tony, talk about a great guess! As great as Hearher is and may be..she seems so boring to me. No idea if she’s killin it in the votes, but I wonder if she’ll follow the same trajectory of Christina Milian or even Sabrina Bryan…in eliminated way too soon.
Some of these songs are about as Vegas-y as I am Chinese.
Spoiler alert: I’m not Chinese. Not even a little bit.
@Courtney – I was thinking the same thing. What a lame theme.
I’m not very excited about David having jazz. Though I enjoyed watching him this week, I’d prefer him to do a Latin or ballroom style so that we could see some traditional dance steps from him.
As far as Heather having Toxic, the one saving grace is that it’s a tango. I’m hoping we can count on at the very least Len calling out Maks/Alan/Serge/whoever the heck choreographs it if they choose to break hold and start doing her professional work. I would say if that kind of choreography were to happen it should go beyond the usual 1 point deduction for breaking hold and be at least 2 points, maybe 3, and receive deductions from all the judges. However, I’m guessing that’s a level of optimism that has no prayer of being realized. I’m preparing now to hear some lame “It’s theme week! It’s great to push some boundaries!” excuse for a jazz/contemporary/hip hop routine that has the occasional bit of tango thrown in for good measure.
Ok, after watching two weeks of dwts, I would say out of the women, I love simone and normani the best. The other women are either boring or just not as likable.
On the side note, I am worried that simone may follow Nastia, if she doesnt allow herself to step out of her comfort zone.
The men, I love rashad and david. I love rashad personality and he can dance really well but I felt like both his dances were overscored but thats just me. I love David because he is having fun. He may not be the best dancer but I love that he is having fun.
Did they mean to call it “Vegas Acts Week” or “Popular Vegas Residencies Week?”
Yea, this theme is kinda weird. I enjoyed the last episode where it kinda felt like old times with no theme and just good old dancing.
I feel like perhaps Lindsay has given up on him being able to beat the competition on dance ability so is going all out on entertainment instead. David is giving me serious Bill Engvall vibes, although I think David is a better dancer.
Kind of wish that the Glee version of Toxic will be used for Heather. It’s way better for a tango.
So I’m most excited to see David and Lindsay this week!
I also believe this is the week that Bonners stiffness will be exposed with this Charleston. He has no rhythm and Sharna can’t hide between the lighting, closeness and lack of steps.
I’m disappointed in this theme too. I was hoping they’d do Cirque shows again. Oh well.
I hope you’re right about Boner @Rosa. The fact that he scored higher than Nancy last week is just ridiculous.
Rosa, I was reading fast and got to “Bonners stiffness” and about fell over. 😀
I have a dirty mind.
Mmmmmm, daddy, the stiffness. 😛
Nothing about all these song choices seem “vegas” to me lol. Although I was expecting to see a mix of Britney/mariah/jlo/Celine songs since they’re doing residencies. Lol. Excited to see Emma and rashad dance a samba to their song though.
I hope Rashad and Emma are the winners in the end but I also hope David and Lindsay get all the way to the end because they are so enjoyable to watch but if I am completely honest Nancy is being overshadowed and it’s not fair but that’s the show.I honestly believe she is a top five going by dance ability.Call me crazy and I am not a fan of Witney but a showmance can make some so blind.I thought Chris had better movement and more rhythm than Bonner.I was hoping for so much more from him but he has a Ty Murray.
Is Alan gonna cheo this week’s Tango – “Toxic” by Brittany Spears with Heather?
I think if he does, he should get credit. I don’t think this has ever happen b4. Pros get hurt, but they always cheo. the next dance/dances otherwise pro should be out of the running.
I just listened to Rashad’s week 3 song. He is gonna CRUSH that dance! Go Rashad and Emma! I’m rooting for you!!!
I like about half of the song choices. As a Rashad/Emma supporter this season, I’m not sure how I feel about theirs for a samba yet, and I don’t get what is up with either dance or song choice for David and Lindsay. I hope they can pull it off. I’m probably most disappointed in the song doled out to Erika and Gleb. I had hoped they would get something powerful to make them stand out this week.
Of course, Heather gets one that the Glee fans will get in their feels over. In my mind that’s why she did the Beyonce spot in last week’s dance too.
I do like Nancy’s song, another fast one for her but it could set her apart if she can execute. I also think Charo will do well with hers although I suspect it might not matter one way or the other.
I just noticed that there isn’t a Wayne Newton song. I figured he would have been an obvious song choice to use for one of the couples.
@Trent – I found that odd, too, especially considering that he’s a former contestant on the show. “Danke Schoen” seemed like a no-brainer.
I love the dancing and glitter but mainly watch DWTS for the branding synergy extravaganza. It’s like this Mobius loop of Motown/Mickey/TGIF sitcoms/ABC soaps/Chicago musical/Today Show/DWTS. Disney mainly promotes Disney.
Ever since I heard Tom say it was Vegas Week when I phoned all my votes in for Emma and Shad, I am confused why Disney would promote a theme that takes viewers off their corporate ad path to a competitor like Vegas. I also cannot think of previous DWTS themes that did not tie back into Disney-owned or affiliated brands.
I know Disney has a big retail store on the Strip, and it’s been rumored for years they want a huge resort in Vegas. So what is Disney’s stake in having this Vegas theme?
@Nukegrrrl I don’t think everything DWTS does is necessarily an attempt to help advertise for Disney. Some things are just things they think viewers will find entertaining, and thus will get them more viewers. Obviously they probably don’t want to be doing a ton of advertising for things that directly compete against Disney (such as Universal Studios or Dreamworks or something), but Vegas really isn’t like that because there is little overlap in the target audiences for Vegas and Disney.
Poker Face will forever belong to Andy Dick and Sharna with their over-the-top, cray cray, unforgettable, but utterly spectacular jazz.
I hate the song choice this week for Rashad and Emma. Week 1 and 2 Emma’s choreography has been amazing, I hope she can bring it again this week.
I’m with you Sandy. Don’t care for Rashad’s song for that dance, but it looked like he was working hard at the Samba technique so I’m hopeful that they’ll have another great week.
@Rose1 – Emma seems happy about Vegas week so fingers crossed everything goes well for them.
Between wrestlemania, survivor on Wednesday, and this tonight I’m a very happy person this week 🙂 .
Omg? Are you serious? Mani bear is really gonna dance to that boring ass song. They are setting her up for failure. Like really they couldn’t find a more exciting song choice for freaking Vegas week. I mean I guess. She’ll still slay the lessers. I hope she wins. She deserves it. After this week they are done touring china so hopefully she’ll get better and better. I’m gonna punch my wall if she doesn’t.She has to.I wish she had Derek I would like the dances better. Val’s chores is dull and chalant. I miss him. I wonder where he is.Ive been looking for him but I can’t find him. I’ll check my TV. Go Normantiii queen hoe she’s the main one in charge.
@jazz: that’s a great song for the dance style (and oddly enough for a jazz routine too). Highly recommend the version they have listed but also there are some really good recent versions out there as well. Don’t be so quick to dismiss it.
Just a few off the top of my head: the pussycar dolls version, the queen (yes that queen with Freddy mercury) version, and of course the Peggy lee version.
@Jazz – Mani bear? Are you serious? Anyhow, please don’t punch your wall! DWTS is just a silly dance show it’s not worth getting upset over.
And Normani is NO more deserving than any of the other contestants on the show. They are all working hard and want to win.
At least we can agree on one thing… Val’s choreo is dull and chalant.
@sandy: it’s not as bad as describing her as “Queen hoe”‘ I guess lol. So that’s a plus there
You guys pretty much covered anything I would have said (I just rolled my eyes emphatically), but I feel I should add that “chalant” isn’t actually a word in English. I think the word you’re looking for here, Jazz, is “nonchalant”.
@Jazz Describing other contestants as “lesser” is a very rude way to talk about others. Yes, it is true that Normani has more dance ability than contestants like Charo and Mr. T, but that doesn’t make them “lesser,” just people who don’t have a ton of dance ability at this time, whether it be because of age, lack of natural aptitude, or both. Perhaps you didn’t mean that comment to come off in the way that it did. However, if you’re wondering why people sometimes seem to get upset at comments like the one you just made, here is an example of why others get offended. It is possible to convey that you feel that Normani is a better dancer than some of the other contestants (which she is) without calling other people “lesser.”
I always roll my eyes at the fans who take time to bash the “lessers”. At some point, those lessers are going to be out of the competition, and the voters who voted for them might not want to vote for someone whose fans have been bashing their fave all season.
Right now I’m all in on David. Hopefully he’ll make it far. But when he goes, Normani’s fans on social media have all but assured I will never vote for her. I mean, her fans used the comment section of a recent Cubs article about pitcher Jon Lester adjusting to playing post-David to bash David’s dancing. Come on, guys.
Also, on a personal note, I would love to ban the word “slay” forever.
@ Chayse: Instead of banning “slay” and giving it power by making it taboo, let’s co-opt “slay” and run it into the ground until there is no way that it can possibly be cool.
Like I’m really hoping Lindsay and SLAYVID do well tonight!
