Private Members Area – DWTS Season 24 Week 6 Discussion
It’s time again for Dancing with the Stars chatter! Share your thoughts and insights on this week’s Dancing with the Stars from the comfort of the Pure DWTS Private Members Area. If you’re not a Pure DWTS Insider yet, you can do so here. If you are, then I look forward to the discussion in the comments.
My apologies for actually missing last week’s Private Members area post. I’d just finished organizing a conference and obviously still hadn’t gotten my mind back. Anyway, we’re back this week and ready for the discussion.
I’m already getting a bunch of hate mail about the elimination and how people are never watching ABC again, etc etc etc. I’m always amazed at how many people don’t realize that DWTS is largely a popularity contest and not a dance contest. Many can’t live with that idea it seems. However, my guess is that there were as many people happy about tonight’s elimination as those that were mad. What did you think?
Also, how about the boy bands vs girl groups night? You like it? Hate It? Ambivalent. I look forward to hearing your thoughts in the comments.
I’m tired of the Normani love from the judges. Getting near perfect scores for a hip-hop jazzy Samba. Good on Len in calling Val out! Val needs to shut his yap!
I liked the BoyBand team better. They danced. The girls pranced & posed..typical C-bro choreo there!
Not sorry to see the Pro dancer leave. Shoulda never been cast anyway seeing as she’s a pro! Maks should’ve let Heather choreo her own Disney routine last week. I think that was the nail in her coffin, tbh. Maks proved he isn’t a choreographer. Sure, he was injured. But he was given a dancer with amazing talent & didn’t manage to produce anything memorable!! That Jazz, had he let Heather choreo, could’ve gotten an Emmy nod. Maybe TPTB were hoping that would happen when they chose to cast her with Derek & Mark being gone. I see an Emmy nod coming from the Unsteady routine Derek & Jules performed in week 3! Not from any C-bro number.
You said it all for me, Kelly! I couldn’t agree with everything you wrote. Also, can I complain on the lack of Pro Numbers? With an exception to Julianne and Derek’s, they are lacking big time.
Well the first half of the “C’Bro’s and the Ringlets” is history. Wonder how long Normani will last now that HER dance background is out.
She actually seems kind of cute and I have a feeling Heather might have been more likable had Maks used her talents.
But after all the snide comments and excuses he’s made about Derek over the years it was rather interesting to see how things turned out when MAKS had the ringer. Blaming Alan was all too predictable. Maks seems to be an awesome Daddy but it hasn’t done a thing to his EGO.
BTW Wasn’t there some chatter in the early days about Bruno and CAI actually learning how to dance ballroom (on the show) since they had no prior experience with ballroom before the show? TPTB promptly pooh poohed because of their dance backgrounds.
I’m just tired of this endless Val pimpage season after season and us viewers getting shortchanged because Val has phoned it in ever since S16 with Zendaya. The ladies have knocked it out of the park with their choreo for their amateur dancer celebs while the C-bro’s continue with the same old same old and expect to be lavished with praise for minimal effort. It’s not like they’ve had to actually TEACH their celebs to count music, basic dance steps, etc. Artem has done well with Nancy. Sasha is still missing something in getting Simone to deliver at 100%. But their routines were much better than what we saw from Normani/Val in regards to actual content.
I get pretty turned off by the Gender X vs Gender Y themes so I recorded it for some half-assed watching later. That worked out nice because then I got to fast-forward through Val’s non-stop narration.
I was not surprised at all by the surprise elim. I was surprised at myself though for being glad it wasn’t Nick getting eliminated! I have never thought much of the Bachelors before but I have a feeling that Nick is in it to win it now; if only to rub that success in the face of producers who maybe didn’t really want him there except for some quick cross-marketing. But that’s just my hunch.
Nick Carter was a pretty acceptable guest judge, even if he did give everyone 8’s. On a scale of “Alfonso” being best guest judge to “Pitbull” being the worst, I’d give Nick Carter an “Olivia Newton-John.”
The Normani and 5H pimpage is super gross, and Disney is no Motown and Normani is no Diana Ross… I just don’t get it.
I was also pretty amazed at CAI boldly claiming that she is practically twenty years older than Simone!
Even if the math adds up (it does not, at all) it was weird to watch CAI act like she’s running around in Lindsay Lohan’s clique circa 2007.
What drugs did they put in her anemia treatment IV’s?
I’m pretty sure it wasn’t iron, and that I want some.
If y’all want to have some fun, BuddyTV has up a poll about whether Val should take at least a season off. Wanna vote?
I am a little surprised Heather was eliminated this early- I thought she had another week or two. While I agree with everyone that she never should have been cast, I felt sorry for her last night. I said this a little in the power rankings, but while I blame DWTS for casting her, I don’t blame her for taking the opportunity. I never felt any connection to her until last night, where she looked crushed. I think it has to hurt to know that you got eliminated based on votes, and not because you were at the bottom of the leaderboard. Maks does need to take responsibility for that awful Jazz routine, though.
I roll my eyes hard at anyone who complains about “not great” dancers making it longer than people like Heather or how “the right” people need to win. I don’t want a predictable show where the dancers with experience are the only ones who can make the finale. Sometimes I vote for the best dancers, sometimes I don’t- it’s not my only criteria.
This theme wasn’t overwhelming so I didn’t mind it, but the dances themselves weren’t spectacular. Heather’s dance is the only one I really loved, ironically. Nick was a fine judge- he tried to be helpful, made some good comments, and didn’t completely tow the party line, but I still wish we had trained dancers as guest judges.
Thanks, Colleen! I voted and also might brush off my old chan skills and get fake IPs and the bots going on this, LOL
On the DWTS tag on Tumblr – and Tumblr skews VERY liberal – people were actually comparing Heather’s elimination to the recent US presidential election. Yes, because a cheesy dance show (I say this with love) and the presidential election are TOTALLY the same thing. It should also be noted that the tag is overpopulated by Harmonizers as well. Yeah, it also skews young.
I was surprised to see Heather go this early, but I’m not really sad to see her go. She never really “wowed” me.
Most people see Rashad winning, and I’d be good with that. He seems like a cool guy, and he looks like he’s improving from week to week. I at least want Nancy in the finals though. I want to see her do a freestyle.
Was it just me, or did Simone’s song seem faster than it should have been? She handled it well though, either way.
And I think Normani’s dance was supposed to be a salsa? Not that it was recognizable as such. I think I saw a few moments of hip action and salsa steps. But most of it was spins and those godforsaken kicks. I have a feeling if she ever does a samba it’ll be about as recognizable as this salsa was.
Wow. Cheesey little dance show = presidential election for the most powerful country in the world? Um. Okay. That has nothing to do with “liberal” – trust me.
They might be thinking of some other country where you can vote more than once for your elected officials. LOL
Oh, no that’s not what I meant, whoops! I’m actually left of center. I just wanted to preface my comment with that because I didn’t know how many people knew what Tumblr’s like. Donald Trump’s election was disastrous for lots of people there (not that I was overly fond of it, but that’s not the point), but at least some of the conservatives I know didn’t see it that way.
Your reaction was pretty much mine, though. My friend and I had a good laugh at the ridiculousness.
Tumblr skews very young (teenagers), very liberal, and not very open to differing opinions. Which is why I mostly use it for fan stuff.
I smell a rat with this all of the sudden just announced double Elimination come Monday! I think they’re doing it to get rid of David just a hunch
They can only “get rid of David” if he’s one of the two lowest cumulative scorers. And if that’s the case, he’d be gone the following week regardless.
What if it’s secretly a sextuple elimination? What if Val and Normani get handed their own variety show? What if Normani gets a private office in the West Wing of the White House?
I would probably still watch the show, even if all that came true.
Kelly I was thinking that too but then I read this on the DBTN post
“Interestingly, that season was also a Maks shocking elimination when Brandy got knocked about by Bristol Palin – another non-dancer – so it does happen more than once in a season.”
Then we have the fact Val is NOT doing the tour which makes NO SENSE if they are priming HIM to win So I read and reread Heidi’s post and thought
Audrina and Heather are “shocking” elimination
Bristol and David/Nancy Popular with main Demo
Brandy and Normani similar backgrounds
Val is not going on tour which was probably a given with Maks and Peta’s coronation (oops wedding LOL) in July. However he is also hinting that he may not be back similar to Maks little episode after Brandy. Even before then something tells me TPTB and Val are not getting along as well as people think they are and there will be some drama about him coming back much as there was with Maks after season 11.
So anyway call me crazy but I saw Heidi’s observation as an Easter Egg IF I’m right DWTS history is repeating itself and Normani may actually go home THIS week (or at least they are not going to pimp them anymore)? Which would probably mean Simone, Rashad, David and Nancy as top 4.
Fingers crossed and prayers to the Tin Foil gods that I’m right.
And if Val sits out moves on whatever I’ll be ecstatic especially if it is a permanent arrangement.
Interesting….I hadn’t heard that Val wasn’t doing the Tour. Not that I’m going. Ohhh I hope you’re right Narice!
Well at least that’s what he’s saying on his Twitter so who knows?
The last time the tour was here Val was fresh off his win with Rumer. I actually liked him at the time and thought maybe he’d mellow now that he’d won. Enter Tamar who I didn’t really care for BUT when she got sick and he and the show pushed her dance and then he PRAISED her over it.
That did it for me. The woman could have DIED but all means make it about you while “praising” her! What utter B.S.
Anyway so far it is Emma and Sharna. My guess is they’ll add in Lindsay Artem (maybe Sasha) Gleb Keo and the troupe. I want to go but it would have to be the $60 tickets since my brothers getting married the following week.
Meet and greets go from $200-600 here depending on what extras they throw in. Not much into fan girling I go primarily for the dancing.I’m not sure I’d want to shell out that kind of money to meet most of the pros.
Some thoughts about this season so far ……
I’m old and remember Nancy Kerrigan well from her Olympic days, back to her 1st trip prior to the infamous attack. I was a fan but remember her detractors from way back to and how nasty the publicity about the clubbing and then her 2nd Olympics and the fallout. (Plus the very sad story of her father’s death at her brother’s hands.) So it’s been a shock to get to know her as she is today. A very good one! I’d love to see her have a good outcome to her season on DWTS.
I already adored Simone but I’m enjoying seeing her journey here. I especially loved the talk that she had with Sasha about expectations of her and learning to say she needs a break. I do think that she’ll look on this as a great experience even if she doesn’t win the MBT. I noticed that Simone doesn’t seem as giggly now as she did at first but she said in one package that she giggles when nervous. I actually think she’s growing more comfortable with Sasha and the whole experience now.
Rashad!!! What a great guy he seems! And sooooooo gorgeous! Loved his sweet and swift reaction to Simone’s confession that she finds him hot!
I’m absolutely reveling in seeing pros who haven’t gotten much opportunity to show us what they’ve got excel this season! Sasha has had an interesting journey of his own as a pro. I hope we get to see more of it in upcoming seasons. I know Emma has said that she is grateful for each of her partners and that she loves teaching someone who has never danced. Introducing them to her world and giving them the girt of dance. But how great must it be for her to teach someone who hasn’t danced but does have natural talent! And her first 10’s! GUH! How much do I want one of these teams to win this season?!!
