PureDWTS Season 24 Week 6 – Media, Interviews, Scores, And More After The Dances
Another great night of dancing. I was especially impressed with Rashad & Emma, Sasha & Simone, and David & Lindsay. I also liked the Team Dances, but, the Boy Band team did so much better in content and choreo. Speaking of, can I complain about the lack of Pro Dances this season? I wish they’d have a really good Pro Dance every week to add meat to this show. I also super miss photographer Adam Taylor’s stunning dance photos after the show. Not only were they always stunning, he uploaded them in the night right after the show. *cries*
So, let’s review the scores again:
Heather & Maks 40 (10, 10, 10, 10) Eliminated
Normani & Val 38 (10, 10, 8, 10)
Rashad & Emma 37 (9, 10, 9, 9)
Simone & Sasha 35 (9, 8, 9, 9)
Nancy & Artem 33 (9, 8, 8, 8)
Bonner & Sharna 30 (8, 8, 7, 7)
David & Lindsay 29 (7, 8, 7, 7)
Nick & Peta 28 (7, 7, 7, 7)
Team Boys 33 (8, 9, 8, 8)
Team Girls 34 (8, 9, 8, 9)
To relive all the dances again, see Idolxfactor (these videos work Internationally) and the official You Tube site. For media, recaps, and interviews, first see People and Entertainment Tonight (I’d embed these, but, they won’t stop and go.). People has a few interviews as well. Be sure to check back with them through out the day for possibly more.
Glamour also recapped the show. They have interviews with some of the cast as well. Below is a take with Rashad and David talking about the challenging week. Note that next week, the couples have to learn 4 dances which is going to be even more challenging. Details below.
For Emma’s partner—Rashad—he’s just appreciating every moment. “I look forward to the next chapter, but in the meantime, I’m having a blast dancing. It is helping agility, mobility, awareness of my body, balance. I’m working on core stuff that I’ve never felt before because of dancing. But the main thing is awareness. This is making me be conscious of how I control my body, so now I go train in the mornings, and I can feel a difference. If I could go back to my rookie year [in the NFL], I would have started dancing every off-season.”
Retired Chicago Cub David Ross remains a fan favorite this season of DWTS, but he admitted backstage that he had his toughest week yet. “I was in a bad mood most of the week,” he revealed. “I was traveling back and forth and I just had no energy. But I’m back!”
Lindsay Arnold wasn’t worried, telling me, “I’ve gone through it with all of my partners. You get to week 6 or 7 and you hit a wall. It’s tough and it sets in that this is a lot of work and it starts to build on each other.” OK, but as I mention in my recap below, let’s talk about Coachgate 2017. Is Lindsay the coach, the teammate, or both? “Definitely both!” she laughed. “I’ll whip out Coach Lindsay! Watching the rehearsal package, I was like, ‘Dang, Lindsay! I didn’t know you had that sassy side to you!'”
Next week is movie genre night, and according to David, each couple will have about four dances to learn. So is still being in the competition a blessing or a curse? “I wouldn’t trade this for the world!” David laughed. “I’m having so much fun, and I think last week was just me putting myself through the ringer. Hopefully I learned my lesson.”
More at Glamour with Maks, Heather, Nick Carter (I loved him as a Judge. I hope he does it again in the future), and more.
FOX also has a recap and talked with some of the couples here and here. Interesting note: Heather is writing a dance film and she’d like Julianne to star in it.
Maks added with a laugh, “This is so strange that it’s kind of okay. I feel there was a chance and opportunity for Maks and Heather to develop and to build every single week and we got that cut short…we had to scramble. Alan did an amazing job…I just feel bad that it took so long for me to get back” from injury.
Incredibly, Morris, 30, who showed off a flexible style during the show, confided her back hurt and she learned, “I’m getting a little bit older. My body doesn’t work as well and it’s hard.”
Morris has been writing a dance film that she hopes “DWTS” judge Julianne Hough might consider starring in “because I think she’d be perfect for it but we’ll see how that goes.”
Below are some video interviews before and after the show. There is a rehearsal interview too….

Heather was a great sport about the cut. I wish she would’ve landed in a respectable 5th place, ’cause I was looking forward to a Heather/Maks/Alan trio. I hope the show can let the three of them squeeze in a new routine in the finale.
I watched GMA this morning. Heather was in LA, and Maks was a no show. The “story” is that there was a run in with a guy at Maks and Peta’s place and the cops were called, and the main thing is that Peta is ok. I think it is a bunch of hogwash. Maks is pouting like a baby because he was eliminated. Like Heather said in their 1st package “it is all about him.”
@Darlene – Hmmm…sounds awfully similar to the line Heather’s agent was feeding fans on Instagram last week that wanted to know why Heather didn’t do the press line after last week’s show. She claimed Heather “was feeling under the weather, and wanted to rest before team dance rehearsal” – funny, because we were told that Heather was kinda being withdrawn & uncooperative during that rehearsal. My guess? She & Maks were not getting along as well as TPTB would have us assume, and they were trying to get creative in concealing it. Seems like the same thing may have happened last night, too.
Well Court now that you mentioned it. I wondered last week how must Heather feel doing that jazz routine, and all through the week when it was being created. I’m a dancer and have been all my life (although I don’t have the professional background and experiences she has) and I would be mad that my “coach” is having me run around and do turns when I know that I’m capable of much more. Specially in a dance style that she is more of an expert than him. So maybe its true and they weren’t getting along as well. I guess that having such an talented dancer is a challenge, not only in terms of choreography, but also the pro has to be humble in the relationship since the “student” is much more knowledgeable than usual.
Ooo, Courtney! So it was Heather who was uncooperative during team dance rehearsal. Now we know. Agree with Tei. I’d want to be given choreography that suits my capabilities, which Heather has lots. Unfortunately, her pro doesn’t.
I didn’t expect Heather to be sent home last night, like I said I was expecting Bonner to go. I thought Maks’ fanbase would get her a bit farther, but I can’t say I was shocked either. Never believe she would get to the final.
I don’t like it when they say an entire team is safe and the other is in jeopardy, seems so unfair. BUT they never reveal the bottom 2 so one of the guys could have been there with Heather, we’ll never know, but a bunch of people will now think Nancy is in danger (she could be though, who knows…). Especially with another negative video they made of her. I love Artem’s calmness and his choreo, but he doesn’t seem to be very good at making things fun; he’s not as goofy as Derek, Mark, or even Maks… And she, like Len said, needs to believe in herself more. If she can’t do that, she’ll be voted off.
I have to say, watching the fb video above, and another that I think was from Snapchat, I love to see how Nick is always rehearsing! People are now saying such mean things online bc Heather was voted off, and the judges were way too harsh on him last night, but he’s working so hard!
Bonner’s working hard, he’s been paralyzed, he’s never danced etc, etc… I’m just not in love with him as some people seem to be… Between him, Nick, David and Nancy, I would rather see Bonner go home next.
You are probably right Courtney. Maks is a pro dancer, Heather is a pro dancer. There should be a connection between them when they dance, at the very least. There was none. I would not be surprised if they let their personal negative feelings about one another get in the way of their performance. I remember seeing in a very early interview together, they both acted uncomfortable and neither of them looked the other in the eyes when they were talking about how “great” their partnership is. Oh well, life goes on, the earth continues to spin.
Nancy interview 🙂
I’m rather shocked that Dave Ross is still around. I’m from Chicago and also a fan of Dave. However, I did not vote for him. To me it’s the dance and not the popular vote.
I did this that it was time for Heather to be eliminated. She was so intenced about what her husband would think. She just could not let go. Whenever, they would put the camera on her husband last night there was no smile. He had a strange look on his face.
Thanks Maina!!
@Justine 1
Heather Morris is a hard one to know from her interviews. There was an infamous one for Fitness magazine where she said something like her biggest ambition was to marry Taylor (then bf) and have his babies. And that if he wanted her to, she’d give up Hollywood. And during her Glee run, her character was romantically linked with several different people but most famously, another girl. However, when questioned by the press, she’d say things like her mother or her boyfriend didn’t like her Glee character/those storylines/her kissing others. And one that caused a major uproar was when she said she thought “Brittany prefers boys.” Despite her sometimes scorching scenes with Naya Rivera! Eventually, Heather outright declined to be interviewed about Glee. I always found it hard to believe that she’d say such anti-Glee things deliberately. So was she really dumb or did she think she was being funny? She was hired to act because RIB liked her deadpan delivery of their one liners!
Also, count me as one of those who never thought she was really fond of Maks. And I think that seemed to be exacerbated after a stint of working mainly with Alan. Plus, I think she was pissed over his bossiness over her Jazz routine. From her Erin interview, Heather seemed to know that routine wouldn’t be well received.
Thanks so much for this post! I’m not a social media follower & only sometimes catch the interviews. This was genuinely helpful to have so much in the same place.
And could someone also post the Cameron & Rashad work out? THAT may get quite a few views! I swear, even with a winning “Bachelor” in the cast, my money is on Rashad actually finding love & marriage from this reality show.
@Maina – Thank you so much for posting Nancy’s interview. What a lovely interview for a truly lovely lady. I teared up through most of it.
I normally post truth on you tube like so many others do in our conversations. Someone stated missing Derek and Mark which is a true statement. so honestly true. I have read here much about the write up this day about the show. I was happy that Maks was eliminated. He acts as if he owns that show. My friends and I stood up and clapped to see Nancy stay because she did do an excellent job. LONG story short.. The show is not what it was. People watch because nothing else entertaining is really on. But I hope DWTS will improve and do a big come back like this show was in the beginning when I and so many of us loved it. Erin and Tom are still looking good. I was happy to see the boss maks go.
Heather’s no dummy, I’m sure she knew that jazz was a stinker and the reaction from judges and and SM confirmed as much. Maks absolutely is behaving as if he’s in charge this season, like he’s the headliner and I think that was a big part of the problem. There was never a partnership. Every interview was mainly about him. I really think the show thought he would bring a return on their investment, I bet they’re all in shock now.
@Rose1 – That is the problem with both Val and Maks they think they are the top dog and the whole show revolves around them. It’s really not their fault though, TPTB created these monsters and now we the viewers will just have to deal with it.
@sonya42ful – Maks really does think that he owns the show. Out of Maks own mouth many seasons ago he stated that this was HIS show. I guess in his mind it still is.
@ Colleen – Heather didn’t decline to be interviewed about Glee she declined to be interviewed in general. This really happened more around the third season when her nudes were leaked & I think she was a little disenchanted with Hollywood as a result. I don’t think she was ever really comfortable with fame. She actually gave fun interviews before then. As for saying Brittany preferred boys what she said was she thought Brittany and Artie worked well together because they were both broken. Later when paired up with Sam you could tell the show was making her give interviews and her answers there were kind of towing the company line. She came back to do the show in the 6th season because she wanted to work with Naya and give Brittana fans what they wanted. I don’t think she would have done that with anyone else. And yes she did say that her (future) husband was jealous of anyone she kissed on the show.
As for her dances I am curious if she had a tiff with Maks about the Jazz dance because I’m sure she was disappointed with how it turned out. I had the impression that because she lacked ballroom knowledge she was giving herself over completely to the pro and wanted to rely on them. Maybe she realized, in that case at least, it wasn’t in her best interest to do so.
I didn’t get the impression that she was disliked especially since Simone said “I hugged her and said, ‘We love you mom.’ Because she is like our mom. If we ever need anything, she’s on it,” noted Biles. “She’s like the leader of the group so it’s sad to see her go.” If Biles didn’t like her she could have just said “yeah it was a shame.”
In any case I think Heather had a good and realistic attitude on her way out. I think she did the show because she really wanted to dance again. Oh and Heather has been writing that dance film for about a year now.
Setting aside whether you think Heather should have been cast, do you think she would have gone further with a different partner? Like another partner would have given her better choreography or let her speak during interviews so the audience could try to connect with her? Or do you think Maks’ drama helped her?
@Archinerd
As a Gleek, I saw quite a few glimpses of Heather in BTS video and interviews. What I saw on DWTS was pretty much the same as 6 seasons of Glee. She seemed well liked by all of her colleagues on the show but the only one she seemed close to from Glee was Naya.
As for another partner giving Heather better choreography – That was a must to save this situation. But Derek and Mark weren’t available. Plus, she’s pretty tall, at least 5’8″ without heels. The tango Alan choreographed was better than what Maks gave her but nothing for the ages. Gleb would probably been better.
@Colleen I am a Gleek as well & I have followed her career during and since Glee. As I said I don’t think she is very comfortable with fame. There are a lot of performers who love performing but aren’t always comfortable with what comes with that and I do think there was a change in her comfort level in public after her phone was hacked. As for being close to others did you notice that Kevin McHale was in the audience along with Michael Hitchcock (one of the writers from Glee)? I think she is still really good friends with Amber as well. I think it is also different when you’re married and a mother whereas most of the rest of the cast is still single and scattered about. BTW have you ever seen Nothing but a Glee thang? I think that showcases her sense of humor fairly well.
You’re right since Heather is so tall it limits her partners but do you think Gleb is a very good choreographer? Granted I just started watching DWTS again (Stopped after all stars) so all I know is what I saw but he didn’t impress me that much. Would Artem be tall enough?
The mods here posted some of Gleb’s better routines from other versions of this contest here and he has done some gorgeous dances elsewhere! I did wonder if there were ghost choreographers involved or if it was possibly the longer dances/different type of partner & expectations from his bosses. While I know that both Maks and Val CAN and HAVE choreographed some good routines, not lately. And I think it would have taken outstanding, memorable routines to change Heather’s outcome on this show. Also, for some reason, no one really seemed to tap into the joy that I’m used to seeing when Heather dances. Glee performances were actually difficult, not because of choreo usually but because they only had a few hours to learn and practice a number before filming. And they would need to do multiple takes, spending hours dancing under hot lights. Yet Heather always shone brightly when dancing then. So did they not instill confidence in her along with the unfamiliar moves? Or, did she perhaps sense the crap choreo like with her Disney Jazz?
I believe Artem is about the same height as Val and Derek, roughly 5’10”. TPTB seem try to maintain a few inches of height difference between partners with the woman in heels. I’ve seen some exceptions but it does look like they aim for the male to be clearly taller than his dance partner.
I think Heather might have been doomed from the beginning, Archinerd – there was too much (not positive) press about her being a professional dancer. And I think most rational people recognize that she was a level above any other celeb who has ever been on the show. I’m not even sure that Derek could have taken her farther and he takes everyone pretty far – even if they’re not ringers.
Derek has danced with someone taller than Heather, Colleen – Shannon Elizabeth is 5’9″. If Derek had been available, the dances would have been miles better – but the judges far meaner in order to prevent him from winning again.
Remember, the rule seems to be “Help the Chmerkovskiys” (they need it) and “hurt Derek’s chances”.
For some reason I just now watched the Access Hollywood interview with Nick and Peta. That interviewer annoyed me when she said about Maks being eliminated: “You’ve got a babysitter now.” This is 2017. Could we please stop saying that fathers who parent their own children are babysitters?
really nice interview with Nancy on ABC – thanks for posting Maina
Yeah, for reasons, I rewatched all of Derek and Nicole’s S10 performances. (Gee, a golden pro and girl group ringer. Where have we seen this lately?). And even waaaaayyyyyy back then, Len was uber critical of that team. And he massacred them on a couple for lack of content/ the assigned style/ HIS favorite moves. But what really stands out in my memory is Conrad saying in an interview that of course the producers don’t control the outcome or Derek wouldn’t have won 6 times! Yet I feel like since Maks is out, the stooges would gladly accept a 3rd win for Val.
@m – Lol right? God forbid men actually look after their own offspring BECAUSE IT IS THEIR OFFSPRING, and not just step in only when mom is busy and needs to tap out.
Amen!
Ok so the mods probably know more about demo and voting obv. so just wondering… When Nicole was on with Derek was she still part of the Pussycat Dolls or was she a solo act? I can’t remember? Asking because I’m wondering who her fan base was that voted? Who were her fans that actually voted? And were Derek fans voting more for them?
I do have to say Nicole is savvy, talented, and smart and knows how to win a TV show…multiple times. But just wondering if she had a similar pussycat doll fan base of pop music obsessed groupies (like Normani) that voted? So, maybe Normani does have harmonizers (cringe at that word) voting for her? or TPTB trying to subtly paint her as another Nicole Scherzinger in the viewers minds?
I think Nicole was still with them but it was nearing or already at the end. I don’t think her voting fanbase alone overcame Evan Lysacek – she had to have the general audience plus Derek’s fans were much more passionate about voting back then than they have been recently. Many of us have been much more chill about it since MBT #5. 😀
I don’t recall there being huge numbers of PCD fans here or elsewhere, honestly. It was so not about her fanbase going in – Derek gave her choreography that was nominated for an Emmy and that actually gave him the beginnings of his reputation and credibility. He choreographed some amazing stuff that season. Hell, that might be how he got the job directing, choreographing and starring in Michael Buble’s latest video.
