Private Members Area – DWTS Season 24 Week 10 Finals Discussion
It’s time again for Dancing with the Stars chatter! Share your thoughts and insights on this week’s Dancing with the Stars from the comfort of the Pure DWTS Private Members Area. If you’re not a Pure DWTS Insider yet, you can do so here. If you are, then I look forward to the discussion in the comments.
The finals are here. Do the final dances feel pretty anticlimactic to anyone else since it’s a redemption dance and the freestyle which is rarely special now that people are doing essentially freestyle’s all season? Anyway…let’s hear your thoughts on the dances.
Any predictions on the winner? We’ve talked a bit about it in the past. It seems like the majority of the people in the private members area want one conclusion, but are afraid of a different one. What do you think?
Any other thoughts on the season? Have there ever been 8’s in the finals? I don’t remember anyone ever scoring that low in the finals and I’m too tired to look it up. At least that will make Dancing with the Numbers interesting.
We won’t have a new private members thread tomorrow for the finale, but you can use this one as well. So, with that note, thank you to all of those people who support the work we do here at Pure DWTS. It’s very much appreciated and the discussion here has always been fun. That’s a credit to you!
Well at least it was watchable Rashad and Emma and David and Lindsay were on top of their game
Loved both of their Freestyles Not sure what the heck that hot mess Val did was.
Poor Normani was supposed to do a Quickstep and wound up running around the floor in a Cat Woman suit on a “sore” ankle. Then that Freestyle that while pretty was a HUGE Yawn. Lift Spin Lift Pose not much dancing and frankly more boring then most of their other routines. Psst Val a FREESTYLE should WOW the audience not put them to sleep!! He seems to have checked out.
I thought Davids VW was underscored by 2 pts. Didn’t care for Normani’s QS. And definitely didn’t like the costume Val chose. A catsuit for a ballroom dance? It backfired on them BIG TIME!!
David’s FS was awesome! Lindsay did a terrific job with him all season! Normani’s FS was underwhelming. It was a VW pretty much. I was expecting more from it. And Rashad’s FS was beyond amazing!
Rashad KILLED both dances & if he somehow doesn’t win this…I’m done watching this hot mess of a show!
I found 2 of last night’s freestyles FANTASTIC!!! Wanna guess which one was a bore? I’m so disgusted with the “David doesn’t belong in the finals” that I’d honestly be okay with him winning it. Even though I believe it should be Rashad and Emma.
This discussion reminds me of my favorite quote ever from DWTS from Anna T. When faced with the freestyle she said, “I’d rather choreograph 100 Paso Doble’s than have to choreograph 1 freestyle.” I’m sure Val would never admit it the way that Anna did, but I think that’s why his freestyles are usually underwhelming. He’s so trained in the ballroom styles that he has a hard time creating something special in the freestyle. Just for comparison’s sake, Lindsay was trained in a bunch of other styles as well as ballroom. So, she has a bigger dance vocabulary to choose from when creating her freestyles.
John, I GET that. But what, besides ego, is keeping Val from going out and learning some other styles of dance?
I like how Rashad got to teach Emma some new tricks (OMG, that football drum line).
I think the troupe enjoys working with Rashad so much, that he was always a strong contender for the summer tour. Alan and the other troupe guys were totally bro crushing on Rashad last night and they all look great dancing together. I hope Rashad gets a longer term prize out of this, something like the ESPN hosting gig David got.
I actually felt a little bit bad for Normani last night, like she could see the MBT getting further away, and that Val may not be the knight she needed just then. He was obviously focused on that trophy and not his partner’s comfort (ie, that dumb catsuit).
@ Colleen: I was going to joke that it’s probably too hard for Val to learn new dances because he’s too busy talking over his partners in too many interviews. But now that I think about it’s probably far less ambitious and more like how Gaston sits in front of the mirror all day.
I think Val actually thinks he knows how to do the other dances. That says something.
I think that Val and Maks both believe they are the ultimate masters of their craft and have nothing left to learn – and that is to their detriment. The women on this show are blowing them out of the water in terms of choreo and that was never more evident than last night.
