Dancing With The Stars Las Vegas Odds Going Into Week 9 – May Shock You?
Wow! Get ready as the odds at Sports Bovada may shock you this week more than they ever have…atleast that’s how I’m feeling right now? Never did I think we’d see Apolo in last?
Shawn Johnson 4/7
Emmitt Smith 5/1
Kelly Monaco 15/2
Melissa Rycroft 15/2
Apolo Anton Ono 17/2
Last week’s Las Vegas Odds going into Week 7 to compare:
Shawn Johnson 5/7
Emmitt Smith 7/2
Gilles Marini 11/2
Apolo Anton Ohno 9/1
Kelly Monaco 9/1
Melissa Rycroft 40/1
Kirstie Alley 100/1
Unreal. I think the odds makers have it totally wrong this week putting Apolo last. If anyone should be last, shouldn’t it be Kelly or Emmitt? Then again, it’s pretty tight odds for the last three (Kelly, Melissa, and Apolo). Even still, shouldn’t Emmitt be last and at higher odds to go home than the rest?
Let’s get my cohorts thoughts on this to help make sense of it and be sure to let us know your thoughts too in comments.
Heidi: Ugh, if we get THAT as a final three?? Anyway, look at last weeks odds – they had Gilles in the number three spot and he’s GONE. That’s where I will hang my hat. They RARELY get the order right, although by now they do usually have the winner right. I’m not so sure I buy into that this time around, with it being the All Star Season. I’m not quite sure why they think that Kelly should be up that high unless they completely buy into the judges rambling. If that’s the case, why are people who bet on Shawn actually going to OWE them money?? Isn’t that what the odds are saying? If they are going with what the judges say, Shawn shouldn’t be anywhere near the top – or do they see through Len as well as we do? Anyway, I think the final three is going to be Shawn, Apolo and Melissa, with either Shawn or Apolo winning. I’m starting to wonder if I’m wrong about Apolo though. I’d be lying if I didn’t admit that up front. He’s not getting Ralphed in the slightest – but he also isn’t getting the love I think he deserves, while Kelly is getting far more love than she deserves. But I guess it’s in her ABC contract.
She was only one point back from Shawn on the Viennese Waltz and she should have been at least two.
Courtney: I feel like pulling a Joe Pesci in Casino and laying the beat down on whatever asshat is setting these odds
No way in HELL do I see Apolo as the low man on the totem pole – and my only explanation is that maybe these oddsmakers are also buying into the judges’ low-balling of him…and OTT praise of Emmitt, Kelly, & Melissa. Although I have to say, if the judging last week was any indicator – I think the dew is beginning to wear off the rose with Kelly, much in the same way it was with Gilles in previous weeks. They could have easily copped out and given her 29′s & 29.5′s like Gilles & Apolo – or really gone buckwild and given her 30′s like Melissa. But they didn’t – they gave her a comparably low 28 & 28.5. It didn’t make much of a difference in the great scheme of things, since there were so many points factoring into last week’s elim, but just the fact that they actually seemed to call her out on some of her errors tells me that she’s not immune to criticism & lower scores. But as Heidi has said, week 9 is the week that the judges tend to get real and really show their cards – that is, who they want in the finale. So I think whatever scoring we see this week is really going to tell us who the judges want in the finale, and who they don’t…and I honestly think they’re going to go for whatever combination they feel will produce the most entertaining finale. I would think that would have to include Shawn and Apolo, and then I think it will be a toss-up between Melissa or Emmitt. As almighty and powerful as the soap fans seem to think themselves, I don’t believe for a minute that they can compete with the might of an Olympian or NFL fanbase.

Same crap it’s always been
Oh for the love of St.Pete..sigh.
Don’t know what to think of those odds?? but at first I thought the show was storyboarding for a final with 2 Olympians +a non-winner. Now I’m thinking they would rather have an Olympian, an football player plus someone who hasn’t won….otherwise why are they sooo overscoring Melissa and Emmit. Melissa is a pretty dancer but not always sure on her feet, not always in sync with music etc. and Emmit?? well, he is not even close to what he was first time, and Cheryl danced around him alot that time too.
I’m just not sure that a show like DWTS is getting the attention/time of the best oddsmakers. As I’m sure you all know, with things like sports and elections, Vegas is almost *always* right. (Then again, they have spreads etc. to work with…) That’s why they make so much f***ing money, after all.
I guess I’m just not sure their good people are handicapping DWTS, and it’s also not really in their wheelhouse.
It looks like Shawn’s to lose, given their level of dance and the whole OMGDerek’sLeaving thing. I feel vindicated for claiming well before the pairings were announced that they would 1. Give Shawn to Derek and 2. That S&D would win.
I think it will be Melissa and Tony and Shawn and Derek. It’s Tony’s time to win the mirror ball. This is only the second time that he has gotten a dancing partner that can keep up with him. The first time was with his current partner, Melissa.
Oh here we go again – the “Tony’s turn to win” bullshit. This AIN’T PEE WEE FOOTBALL! Not everyone gets a trophy just for playing.
Apolo last, BS. that is all.
Gean Johnson – no, Tony had Stacy Keibler, who was a fantastic dancer in season 3.
“Tony’s time to win the mirror ball”, sorry to say this, but I really hate when people says this kind of thing. It is competition, no pity party. “Oh poor tony, never won, always stuck with bad partners, he really deserves now”. Guess what , Tony is not the only pro that never won, in fact between the male pros, only three have won this show. In the end of the day is about the celeb and the dance, not the pro.
Nope, try again, Tami – the minute you start telling people what to do, is the minute you get deleted. Try posting again, but this time try not to sound like an bossy, obnoxious child.
Gene Johnson, it’s not about the professionals. It’s about the celebrities. And Melissa is good, but not the best in my opinion.
Melissa is still talking about her neck injury. If it still is a problem
it will affect their Freestyle. Could this cause the judges to go more
with Kelly?
I’m not letting this worry me only because the odds had Gilles in third last week and he’s now gone. I agree it’s accurate with Shawn, but not anyone else. I think Apolo’s in the bottom because his judges scores last week put him second to last last week. And he was in “final jeopardy” the last 2 times, even though this means nothing no one, including the oddsmakers, seem to understand that.
The bottom three odds are so close as to be pretty much a tie, which essentially says they don’t know who the final one making it to the finale will be. I think Apollo should have odds a little better than Kelly and much better than Melissa. I think, barring some crazy judging, that Shawn, Emmit and Apolo make it, with Kelly having the best chance of overtaking Apolo. Her fans are the biggest wildcard to me. She has passionate fans, just not sure how broadbased it is.
I dont get the talk of over the top love kelly has been getting from the judges versus the slight Apolo has been getting.
I mean if you take out that one swing marathon, kelly has been at the bottom of the leader board or second to last for the past 4 or 5 weeks. She was even scored lower than kirstie for two weeks, and is the only remaining contestant to have never received a ten- which they have been handing out like candy this season.
Dont believe this result anyways. They are always inaccurate.
Since I basically don’t care who wins, I’m just going to enjoy the dancing. Shawn and Melissa, are, I think, the best dancers left, but,as it’s never been about the best dancer, any of the 5 left could take that ugly sparklebarf (borrowing from the Fringe Fairy) trophy. Crap shoot at best. I’m just glad to have my fingernails growing again.
IMO, Kelly was scored too high. That V Waltz only a point behind Shawn’s?? No way. Anyone else dancing a V Waltz that rough would have gotten hosed. She was given a gift when she should have gotten all 8s. Her contemporary routine was also crap – but perhaps I watch SYTYCD too much. I know what a good contemporary routine looks like. That wasn’t it. I could go on, but I’ll leave it at that.
you could pick anyones name this season compare it to shawn and say it should have gotten all 8′s. I was noting that looking at the scoring of all of the competitors, kelly has been at or near the bottom- not over the top love if ur asking me.
Her position on the leader board doesn’t really matter. That’s like saying it’s okay to give Bristol 8s and 9s for a 7 dance even though she was still in last place. And it’s not just Shawn I compare her to, but Melissa and Apolo as well. She shouldn’t be in striking distance of either of them.
well thats where we disagree. Shawn and melissa are hands down better dancers (as they should be given their experience)…but apolo?? no, not to me.
We know last week at least one person was likely lower than Apolo, since he wasn’t necessarily in the bottom two. No idea why they keep putting him up there at the end or why the judges never seem to recognize he is doing some of the hardest choreography.
No, Karen, we don’t actually know any such thing. I’m not sure where you deduce that from.
Well actually we know for sure at least TWO people were lower than Apolo – that would be Kirstie & Gilles, who were both eliminated. I’m guessing it was more likely 3 or even 4 people that were lower, because I do find it suspect that they haven’t done a real bottom 2 for any of the times that Apolo has been one of the last two standing. The question for me is “What are they hiding?” I’m guessing that whoever was actually lower than Apolo is not anyone that TPTB necessarily think is worth saving – otherwise I think they’d just have a real bottom 2 and make it clear that that mystery person(s) was in it, and hope that there was a sudden resurgence in votes for them.
That’s BULLSHIT!! Apolo should not be last, he has to be flawless tomorrow night to dance his way to the top.
If the judges keep underscoring Apolo and Karina, I’m gonna have this show shut down!! And the judges needs to stop treating Apolo like a rookie!
Nancy/AngelGrL1213, pick a name and stick with it. Not in the mood for sock puppeting tonight.
I was only assuming there was a good chance Apolo wasn’t in the “bottom two” at the end of the show, since they said Apolo was not necessarily in the bottom two with Gilles (after Kirstie had already been eliminated). Since they said that, I think that there was probably at least one other person lower than him. I’m hoping even more than that. Of course he could have been the lowest person left after Gilles was eliminated, but I’m betting he wasn’t, therefore, I said he LIKELY wasn’t the lowest scoring person left after last week’s elimination. Why they want to play him like that, I don’t know. I hope it’s because he’s popular and they think people will keep watching the show to see if he is safe. I guess we’ll finally know more about voting blocks and popularity after this week, if the judge’s scores are as close as we suspect they will be.
I guess the judge’s scores confused the oddmakers. Apolo’s definitely safe this week and probably finish 1st(winner). Its just my guess of course…
Carrie Ann doesn’t play fair – she gives higher marks to those
she personaly favors — the judges have to play by the rules
and the audience is going to influence the outcome even if
not to the “best” dancers. So root for your favorite and hope
for the best. Whether doing the best or not Cheryl is the
nicest and with the least ego and she has my vote no matter
what — don’t care for any of the other personalites,
they are so egotistical, it’s nauseating.
Apolo has been getting unfairly low scores all season. There is a fix in on this show as is evident when really bad dancers like Bristol Palin stays as long as they do. Instead of scoring them on how well they dance, they score them on how much better their dancing was compared to their own previous dances. That’s not a competition.
