Love this jive. I feel bad for the contestes of SCD watching this, is not that they are bad but even the best of them is not even close to how good this was.
Go Kymberly and Pasha, my favorites this season.
I actually enjoy following Strictly Come Dancing, but Laila is right. They’re most creative pro (I would say Artem, or maybe even Pasha) is about average over here in America. I daresay Tony’s choreography would get raves from the other two Strictly Judges should he ever choreograph for SCD (ha! Yeah, right). But not only that: I don’t really see anyone willing to push the boundaries on SCD. It’s like they’re (the pros) are so worked up on trying to please the judges, that they don’t really care about their choreography being all that special.
SCD is a lot more ballroom-y. They stay a lot closer to the syllabus there.
And I know that the ladies have dropped that DWTS needs to follow some sort of syllabus, but the way I see it is that you can’t really expect spectacular ballroom/latin dances if you’re following it. Unless I’m misunderstanding PH and Court’s interpretation of a “syllabus.”
Loved their jive! I think her hair extensions, if that what they were, were hiding her face too much. And I think SCD could use more of that type of pizzazz.
I think you’re misunderstanding MY reasoning for a syllabus, Tony. All I’m saying is that they should have a list of the syllabus moves for each dance. Then the couple has to do a certain percentage of that syllabus, say, like 70% in order to get an 8 or higher. That way, if (for example) Shawn and Derek execute 70% of the syllabus in a dance like Cha Cha, then Len can’t reasonably dock them for having a cow and a tractor. They DID the assigned dance with a large part of the syllabus included – it removes some of the really stupid assed comments from Len, like “you left out my favorite steps” or “not enough in hold for my taste”. Not only that, it prevents the judges from giving other couples 8′s and 9′s….or just plain better scores….when they didn’t execute as many of the moves.
I think you can still see amazing dances with that criteria in place. With Derek anyway. I also think that having that criteria in place may remove some of the fear that some pros might have that prevents them from getting too creative.
It may all be moot anyway. If you watch SCD, most of what bothers Len on DWTS doesn’t seem to bother him when he’s across the pond. Which makes one wonder and believe that it’s all bullshit manipulation by the producers.
