PureDWTS Season 25 Cast Rumors & Watchout: Did WWE Star Nikki Bella Get Asked?

First off, a shout-out to my co-worker Floyd, who is OBSESSED with WWE and Total Divas, and brought this to my attention 😛

This is a bit of old news, but is new to me (and probably most of you), since I don’t exactly keep an ear to the ground on professional wrestling.  Apparently back in April, on an episode of Total Divas, Nikki Bella of the Bella Twins got an email from DWTS:

Something to keep in mind: this episode aired April 26 of this year, but it was definitely taped at least a few months prior to that – and judging from Nikki’s light hair in the video, this was most likely taped in early January of this year, as that is the last time any of her IG pix show her with highlights. So I’m guessing she may actually have been offered a spot on season 24, but turned it down to focus on wrestling.

And given that she has since gotten engaged to John Cena and has expressed a desire to retire from wrestling and settle into married life…is it possible that DWTS may re-extend the invite for season 25? I wouldn’t mind seeing her – again, my memory is slightly more rusty these days, but I don’t know that we’ve ever had a female WWE star on the show since Stacy Keibler in season 2. Also could be nice seeing Cena in the audience supporting her 🙂 Thoughts?

DWTS 17 Rumors: Farrah Abraham, Patricia Krentcil, Bella Thorne, Seth MacFarlane, WWE Superstar to Dance?

Hollywood Life is kicking around a few more names for the rumor mill for Dancing With The Stars Season 17. Some of them, we’ve reported already: John Stamos, Paula Deen, and Jason Varitek. However, take a look at the other new names to add: Farrah Abraham (who?), Patricia Krentcil (who?), Bella Thorne (again who?), a WWE superstar(who could this be? In the past we’ve seen Shelley Martinez, Maria Kanellis, and the Real Melina rumored or campaigning to dance …not that this means anything?) and Seth MacFarlane(ok, so this might be a good one!).

So far, they are awaiting confirmations from John Stamos, former baseball player Jason Varitek, Paula Deen, Backdoor Teen Mom star Farrah Abraham, Tanning Mom Patricia Krentcil, a WWE Superstar, Bella Thorne and Seth MacFarlane! They are hoping for confirmations soon, but it’s coming down to the last minute. None of these people are definites, but they have been asked and it’s in their hands,” a source close to production tells HollywoodLife.com exclusively.

Seeing Uncle Jesse shake his hips on the dance floor, sans shirt, would certainly help us feel a little bit better about Sean’s absence from the dancing competition series. And we have a feeling that Farrah knows a thing or two about doing the tango on camera.

You can read the full article at Hollywood Life. Note that this site isn’t reputable of being correct on their rumors, but, it can go either way. Remember this post from last season? As Heidi likes to say, “you be the judge”.

More DWTS Cast Rumors and Wannabees: Rob Gronkowski, Jonathan Coachman, Slugger the Sea Dog, And More

The executive producer of “Dancing With the Stars”, Deena Katz, wants Rob Gronkowski “The Gronk” to dance in the new season of Dancing With The Stars. However, she’s having trouble getting him to commit.

“I think for many reasons he’d be great,” Katz told our Left Coast correspondent during the Television Critics Association press tour. “He’s great on camera. I think he gets it. I do think he can dance. And I think that the fan base that that team has is great for someone like him to be on it.”

Gronk has admitted that ABC’s mega-popular dance competition has wooed him in the past, but he just won’t commit. Katz hinted that the reason might be that
either the twinkle-toed tight end or the Pats’ brass are afraid their oft-injured star might trip while tripping the light fantastic and hurt himself.

“I know people are concerned about him being injured. We had the best running back and the Super Bowl MVP on our show last season and we take very good care of them,” she said.

To read more and to read how she’d like to partner him with Cheryl Burke, see the Boston Herald.

Now for some “Wannabe’s”:

Jonathan Coachman – According to the Miami Herald, ESPN reporter and WWE star mentioned he wanted to do Dancing With The Stars.

During the Sunday afternoon (July 17) radio show “The Coach & Bretos” on ESPN Radio and the ESPN App, co-host The Coach Jonathan Coachman said he wanted to participate on one of his favorite televisions shows, “Dancing with the Stars,” on ESPN’s sister network ABC.

I have to admit…. I think I’d like to see this.

Slugger the Sea Dog – Who, you ask? Well, according to WMTW, Slugger is campaigning to become the first-ever mascot to participate on ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars.” Be sure to see the video at this link. Dancing With The Stars Season 1’s John O’Hurley is campaigning for this to happen as well.

Slugger is known for his outrageous dancing during Portland Sea Dogs games. He now wants to show his talents to a national audience.

In a video, Maine-native John O’Hurley, who appeared on season 1 of “Dancing with the Stars,” appears with Slugger to introduce the idea.

“Nobody is a bigger fan of the Sea Dogs than I am, and nobody is a bigger fan of ballroom dancing that I am,” O’Hurley said.

DWTS Gossip found a few wannabe’s too:

Roy Nelson – The UFC fighter says he’d like to dance on Dancing With The Stars at the Review Journal.

Claressa Shields – This Olympian Boxer wants to be a household name. From SB Nation

Outside of the boxing rings, the talented middleweight is getting more used to being an attraction. T-Rex, a documentary about her route to the London Olympics, just premiered on PBS. Shields wants to be on TV more often, and not just to play herself.

“My agent has a lot of things going back at home,” she said. “Right now, I guess some things are in the works. I wanna be an actress. That’s what I wanna do. I also want to be a dominant boxer. Who knows if I come back for 2020.

“But, also, I will be in acting. Hopefully I can do things like Dancing with the Stars. I mean, I’m down for all that stuff. I think I can dance a little bit [laughs]. I’m just taking this journey as far as I can take it. I believe that I’m going to be a household name after this Games.”

The casting rumors are really starting to ramp up now, aren’t they? The Pro Watch post is going up soon as well. Stay tuned!

PureDWTS Season 22 Cast Rumors & Watchout: Paige VanZant?

Sorry kids, the news is coming hard and fast this morning, so I’ve stepped in to help Vogue & Heidi a bit – and bear with me, because I’m hearing this 3rd-hand 😛

Apparently UFC Strawweight fighter Paige VanZant just started following @DancingABC on Twitter:

pvz

She also follows Mark (and Mark follows back), but it looks like they’ve been following each other for awhile.  Source said that Paige’s agent apparently dropped some hints about her doing the show on Twitter, but I’ve been unable to locate any tweets from anyone in any sort of “official” capacity (if any of you want to go digging, be my guest – just take screen shots 🙂 ).  Apparently she’s got some dance background – according to Wikipedia, her parents owned a dance studio when she was growing up, and she spent 13 years studying jazz, ballet, and hip-hop. She’s also posted some videos on Instagram of her busting a move:

PVZ IN THE BUILDING ?

A video posted by Paige VanZant (@paigevanzantufc) on

Thoughts? She’s super cute, seems like a fun personality, looks like she’s got some skills (and may be able to give Jodie a run for her money), and seems like she’s got a good work ethic. I’m all for it – seems like she’d be a good fit for either Mark or Artem. Only question I’ve got: when does the UFC “season” run? The only precedent we have for UFC fighters on DWTS is Chuck Liddell & Randy Couture, and I think both were already retired when they did the show. Not sure if she’d be able to do both DWTS and UFC, but admittedly, I don’t really follow UFC…so I know very little about how their schedule works 🙂

What do you guys think?

ETA: Thanks to several of you who found the interesting tweet from Paige’s manager.  See below:

pvzmanager

Also, thank you to Justin for pointing out this interview Paige did about a month ago…fast forward to the 16:00 minute mark to where she says something about “big things happening outside of the cage”:

Definitely a few interesting hints that give credence to the idea that she might be doing DWTS this season…

DWTS Season 12 Casting Rumors – The Typecasting of Season 12, Part I

Whenever the time comes to start speculating about the next season’s cast, one useful “tool” we all seem to use is the patterns in typecasting over the seasons – we know there will likely be at least 1 athlete, perhaps a reality TV star, a singer or two, etc.  But when you REALLY take a good look at the casting “types” over the seasons, it becomes clear that each season has been a carefully-crafted combination of celebs to appeal almost every demographic…and I think we’ve cracked that code 🙂

Prior to the cast announcements, I’ve done a typecasting analysis for both season 10 and season 11, and both casts have fulfilled almost every subtype (with some celebs fulfilling more than one “type”).  So why not take a look at the casting rumors for season 12 and see which might fit into the casting equation, shall we? 🙂

The Olympian

Previous examples: Kristi Yamaguchi, Shawn Johnson, Apolo Ohno, Natalie Coughlin, Misty May-Treanor, Maurice Greene, Louie Vito, Evan Lysacek

Advantages: The winningest of the 12 types, their obvious advantage is their athleticism – you won’t see these guys struggling with strength or endurance moves.  In addition, the same tireless work ethic that helped them medal in the Olympics will likely carry them through the toils of the competition. They also seem to be adored by the masses, as many are seen as “hero” figures – which translates into a formidable voting fanbase.

Disadvantages: For those specializing in sports that are less “artistic” (i.e. swimming, running, volleyball), it might be a bit hard to really get into the character of the dance and truly perform to the crowd.  Previously incurred injuries (or the fear of incurring an injury that might hinder their participation in subsequent competitions in their sport, a la Misty May-Treanor) may also slow them down & limit their mobility.

Possible candidates this season: Since we didn’t get an Olympian last season, I can almost guarantee we’ll get one this season – and the most likely candidate seems to be Nastia Liukin, who has been a rumor for a few seasons now and has started following Mark on Twitter within the past few days.  Other possibilities: Greg Louganis, who seems to have been trying for several seasons now to get onto the show; and while it may be a long-shot, Johnny Weir fans are still campaigning for a “Team Weirnoff” partnership.

The Athlete

Previous examples: Chuck Liddell, Warren Sapp, Emmitt Smith, Michael Irvin, Helio Castroneves, Laila Ali, Floyd Mayweather, Ty Murray, Evander Holyfield, Jerry Rice, Clyde Drexler, Monica Seles, Jason Taylor, Lawrence Taylor, Chad Ochocinco, Kurt Warner, Rick Fox

Advantages: As with the Olympians, their athleticism & work ethic make them well-suited to the competition.  An edge they might have over their Olympic counterparts: sports like football, auto racing, & mixed martial arts tend to have a larger, more mainstream following than some of the Olympic sports.

Disadvantages: Again, a lack of “artistic” experience & previous injury (especially with the football players, who have really taken a beating over the years). Some of the more muscular athletes in hard-hitting sports may also have difficulty with the refined, precise moves of some of the dances.

Possible candidates this season: This category has been oddly devoid of really “solid” possibilities this season, aside from the Brett Favre debacle – doubtful, but stranger things have happened on the show! Chris Jericho was also kicked around as a possibility again this season, and it looks like WWE Diva Maria Kanellis is still gunning for a spot on the show.

The Model/Playmate/Beauty Queen

Previous examples: Kelly Monaco, Rachel Hunter, Tia Carrere, Shanna Moakler, Paulina Porizkova, Shandi Finnessey, Josie Maran, Albert Reed, Shannon Elizabeth, Brooke Burke, Holly Madison, Kathy Ireland, Joanna Krupa, Pam Anderson

Advantages: All the costumes seem to look fantastic on them (and they can get away with wearing the really skimpy ones) and so do their pro partners – easy to imagine a “showmance”, which always seems to grab votes.  Also seems to have cornered the votes of the small population of male viewers, for obvious reasons

Disadvantages: Despite making a career out of looking great posing & strutting down the runway, many of them have proven to be rather awkward movers outside of that context, and some seem to have a hard time carrying around their taller than average stature.  They also run the risk of getting lost in the shuffle among attractive male competitors, who seem to draw in more votes from the predominantly-female viewing population.

Possible candidates this season: A strong possibility seems to be Kendra Wilkinson, who would be following in the footsteps of her Girls Next Door co-star Holly Madison.  Rumored contestant Lee Meriwether is also a former Miss America.

The Legend

Previous examples: Cloris Leachman, Wayne Newton, Donny Osmond, Tatum O’Neal, Marie Osmond, Jane Seymour, Marlee Matlin, Susan Lucci, Florence Henderson

Advantages: These individuals are extremely well-known & respected in the entertainment business, with many years of experience (and fans) under their belts, as well as an award or two. Also masters of the stage & screen – perhaps the best at emulating the emotions of the dances.

Disadvantages: With many years of experience comes an older age than many of their competitors – which comes with an increased risk of injury & fatigue that could limit the difficulty of their routines.

Possible candidates this season: We’ve got two ladies with quite a sterling reputation in show business – Faye Dunaway & Lee Meriwether. One was the original “Bonnie”  of Bonnie & Clyde; the other was the original Catwoman.  Who do you think we’ll get? 🙂

The Soap Star

Previous examples: Kelly Monaco, Cameron Mathison, Lisa Rinna, Susan Lucci, Aiden Turner

Advantages: The demographic of soap opera viewers overlaps heavily with the demographic of viewers of DWTS, and most soap opera viewers have been watching those shows for years (I started watching General Hospital when I was 6!), so they often have a fierce loyalty to their favorite characters (and the actors/actresses who portray them).

Disadvantages: This group likely has the most grueling schedule to contend with, as most soaps tape year-round, and some of them are taped in New York, forcing the stars (and sometimes their partners) to fly coast-to-coast several times a week to practice.  Many also have absolutely no background in any kind of sport, making them a real “project” for the pros to take on.

Possible candidates this season: The lovely Lee Meriwether could do triple duty this season, by fulfilling this category by virtue of her role of Ruth Martin on All My Children. From the online voting for this season’s cast, it looks like Colleen Zenk & Crystal Chappell are also big favorites.

The Comedian

Previous examples: Penn Jillette, Jeff Ross, Adam Carolla, David Allen Grier, Ashley Hamilton, Niecy Nash, Margaret Cho

Advantages: Let’s face it, they’re fun to watch, and they definitely inject some much- needed hilarity into the show.

Disadvantages: They often come across like they don’t take the competition seriously, instead favoring their usual schtick over actual dancing. Some of their on-show humor (Jeff Ross’ in particular) can also be rather polarizing – hilarious to some, offensive to others. And again – often no background in any sort of sport, let alone dancing.

Possible candidates this season: None that we’ve heard of…but who would you like to see? I’m holding out for a member of the Blue Collar Comedy Tour to sign on – Ron White would be a hoot!

So do you guys think I’m onto something with this season’s rumors? Tune in for my next installment, where I dissect just who we might get this season from the teen idol, host, actor, reality star, singer, & wild card categories!

DWTS Season 12 Cast Rumor – Chris Jericho Redux

Well, this guy has been rumored before – prior to Season 11 – and we did a good bit of reporting on the subject at the time, both when I found some random tweets, and when talking about how DWTS tends to typecast. There are several other articles about him on this site, if you want to do a search.

Now, it’s WrestleHeat.com’s turn to spread the Chris rumor:

PWInsider.com is reporting that Chris Jericho will be competing on the 12th season of ABC’s number one rated series, Dancing With The Stars, which starts in March. Jericho has ties to ABC as he previously hosted a game show for the network last year. The cast for the season will be officially announced on 2/28.

In my personal opinion, Chris would be a good member of the cast – why not. And for you skeptics out there, how many times have we seen old rumors become reality several seasons after the original rumor? Well, Jennifer Grey was one of many. 🙂

DWTS Season 11 Cast – Rumors, Innuendo and Campaigns

Ahhh…less than a month until the cast announcement (most likely). This is when it starts to get a bit fun, and tiring. We have campaigns out the wazoo, random (and possibly baseless) rumors, and comments that make you go whut? This is also the time of year that I do a rumor round up. Well, guess what? The producers are on to people like me – and have pretty successfully clamped down on the loose celebrity lips that marked DWTS two seasons ago. So, more than anything, we have people begging to be on the show and not many real rumors. I do have a really random, based on absolutely nothing rumor – and that is Kurt Warner. A couple people on twitter asked him if he was doing DWTS this season; he didn’t answer and I couldn’t find any reason as to WHY they would be asking him such a thing – so it’s likely nothing. Isn’t he still playing football?? Maybe they are being mean to him and I didn’t get it. 🙂 I’m much too lazy (it’s, like, 500 degrees here) to research what is likely baseless. 🙂 At least a couple of the tweets claimed they were “seriously” asking the question.

First things first – I also usually recap rumors from previous seasons, because sometimes it takes a few seasons for something to come true. I’ll do that in a follow-up post, as this one is already kind of long. New rumors for this season, all of which I’ve already written about, are few and far between thus far:

Arianny Celeste – UFC Ring Girl
Xzibit – Rapper. I doubt this one. The offer may have been made, but it doesn’t sound like he’s going to do it.
Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino – I don’t know if this is a rumor or wishful thinking…but remember I said the same thing about Kate Gosselin. 😉
Landon Donovan – US Soccer team. This is another one that keeps popping up.
Chris Jericho – WWE Wrestler and host of the show Downfall (an ABC show, which bodes well for him in the future).

The campaigns for this season are numerous and, in some cases, extraordinarily annoying. 🙂 Lay off the Twitter, Johnny Weir fans, PLEASE. Most of you campaigners should take notes from the Martha Byrne fans, although they could lighten up a bit on the twitter too. 🙂 Here’s a break down of the campaigns I know about:

Nancy Lee Grahn – actress (General Hospital)
Leslie Jordan – he’s been working on this since before Season 10; he’s started a Facebook Campaign Page.
Greg Louganis – still has a minor campaign going. Greg was driving his campaign last season, don’t know if he still is.
Antonio Sabato Jr – relatively new campaign, with relatively annoying fans. 🙂 Antonio is on board with this one.
Tenley Molzahn (The Bachelor) has a little campaign that fans started for her, but she’ll be quite happy if they succeed.
Pete Wentz?!?! Could he really want this? Well, his fans have started a petition.
Shelley Martinez – female wrestler who has been campaigning for a good bit and is still going strong.
Martha Byrne – soap actress. This is the strong, non-annoying campaign.
Johnny Weir – Olympic Ice Skater, with Karina Smirnoff in his corner. I kid you not a few of his fans were tweeting THE SAME THING several hundred times a day, before they realized they were bugging the ever living hell out of a good number of people.  I’m not even exaggerating in the slightest. I actually feel sorry for ABC’s various twitter accounts because I guarantee they saw nothing but Johnny for days on end. NOT HELPFUL.
Bern Nadette Stanis – Thelma from Good Times
Melissa Peterman – actress (Reba). Melissa has a few fans who have been tweeting ABC; nothing on the level of Johnny Weir or Martha Byrne.
Amy Schmolt – Model (True Beauty). Amy was on a show I hate with the passion of a thousand burning suns. 🙂 It’s just bad. She tweeted this earlier today:

Tune in later this week, when I recap rumors from previous seasons that could still happen. Sig Hansen, for one. 🙂

DWTS Season 11 Cast Rumor – Chris Jericho

Here’s the trail I followed:

Chris is a WWE wrestler and the interview discussed above can be found here —> Chris Jericho They discuss his participation at about 3:30 – he was previously offered but couldn’t do it due to a different show he was on (Downfall (?) also on ABC). He said that he could very well do it in the future, but that it takes a lot of time.

A Source Tells People Drew Scott And Nikki Bella Are Dancing In Dancing With The Stars Season 25

This is getting more exciting by the minute. A source is telling People that Property Brothers’ Drew Scott and Total Divas’ Nikki Bella are dancing in Dancing With The Stars Season 25. Here is more….

An HGTV star and a female pro wrestler are joining season 25 of Dancing with the Stars!

A source tells PEOPLE that Property Brothers‘ Drew Scott and WWE wrestler Nikki Bella are both signed on to compete on the upcoming season of the reality dance competition series.

Drew, who got engaged to his longtime girlfriend Linda Phan at the end of last year, has starred alongside his identical twin brother, Jonathan Scott, on the hit HGTV series since 2011. Working side-by-side, Drew (a real estate expert) and Jonathan (a licensed contractor) — both 39 — help couples find, buy, remodel and transform fixer-uppers into their dream homes.

As twins and co-workers, Drew and Jonathan Scott are very close, but Drew’s fiancee fit in with the duo right away.

When season 25 of DWTS premieres in mid-September, audiences will also see Bella as a contestant on the long-running ABC dance series. Bella 33, competes as a professional wrestler and stars on E!’s Total Divas with twin sister and fellow WWE Diva Champion, Brie Bella.

Cool. Bring them on! Let us know who you think they might be dancing with in comments. More at People. We first reported on Nikki as a rumor here.

UPDATE: Here’s the E! News video that’s been circulating where Nikki denies she’s been asked to do the show – but also watch her sister Brie’s face the whole time she’s talking:
