Nice video – a Minute with Derek Hough. Basically telling all about the New York Spring Spectacular. He’s honestly more excited about this project than I’ve seen him about anything in a while. Very happy for him.
Everyone give a “get well” shout out to Vogue – she’s down with the flu. Which is why you may have noticed a bit of a slow down in media. She’s the queen, I’m a mere surf. Or Princess.
Anyway, Emma says the pros find out soon if they’re on or not. Witney and Alfonso talk about how they won and more!
I saw this one thanks to @DWTSGossip – I’ve not had time to do my usual twitter scan the last two days. So what say you all? Rosanne?? I say: why not?? You may remember that she was rumored way back in Season 13 – has she had that hip replacement?
And what do you call a rumor when it’s started by the object of the rumor??
LIVE BLOG is happening here, which is where all the pros will be added as it happens.
Well, a lot has happened since I last wrote one of these posts. In fact, I normally post pro watch for the spring season in early February – yet here we are. Why? Well, Derek is taking a season off to star at Radio City (looks so happy he may never come back), Cheryl appears to have retired from DWTS and is moving on to a different (reality-based?) show, and Val and Sharna are both blabbing about the next season.
And as of last night, Karina is OUT. Hell, I had this post scheduled for tomorrow and here I am posting it today – ya’ll gotta have somewhere to be sad about Karina. (ETA: Vogue was at last night’s show and came away with different and new info re: Karina. Stay tuned.)
In Sharna’s case, I think her hint means she’s definitely IN – after last season I don’t think she would be coy if there were any doubt. And if there is doubt? Bad move, girl. As for Val – I don’t think there’s any way in hell he won’t be on, with Maks and Derek gone and Mark making noise. No way. And he’s saying yes, he is back. Read more..
Wow. You go girl. Good thing I wasn’t hoping for a part for Derek in this thing or that would be TWICE you crushed my dreams (see: Footloose). From Hollywood Reporter:
The network has tapped Footloose star Julianne Hough and High School Musical’s Vanessa Hudgens to co-star in its musical installment of Grease. In a bid to defeat the increasingly powerful DVR, the three-hour production from executive producer Marc Platt will air live at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 31, 2016.
“Grease is one of the movies that made me want to be an entertainer, and I have literally been waiting my whole life to play Sandy,” said Hough, a two-time Dancing with the Stars champion whose resume is lined with film, TV and music credits. “My siblings and I watched it and played it out over and over when we were kids. This is my dream role and performing it live on television will be one of the most thrilling opportunities I’ve had in my career so far.”
Well, this is interesting. To me, it confirms that Derek is a free agent and he and Rob worked it out that he doesn’t have to “close the door” completely. And that he’ll be back is Season 21 for some crazy ass reason. I guess he does love the show and is loyal. Rob also says when we can expect to hear which pros are competing – in E! News:
“Well, he’s not leaving. He’s sitting out a season,” executive producer Rob Wade tells E! News. “And it’s amazing that we started this show, 10 years ago, I think Derek started in season two or three and now he got an opportunity to be on Broadway. It’s amazing that our dancers can grow to a place where they can do something like that and come back.”
“It was tough for him. We had a real heart to heart. It wasn’t an easy decision and it was difficult because I feel like, if not a father, a bit of an uncle to these guys and he was struggling with it so much,” Wade says. “I was like, ‘Look, you don’t have to close a door. You can leave a door open and go off, come back in the fall. I don’t want you to leave more than that and I’ll let you go off and do this. We’ll allow that.’ He was very grateful.”
When DWTS announces its cast of pros in “early to mid February,” Wade says fans can expect to see a mix of familiar faces and newcomers as dancers sitting out gives them the chance to “bring new people in, give other people a chance. I’m excited by that because I want to see new characters come in.”
But will other fan favorites, like Mark Ballas and Valentin Chmervoskiy, definitely be returning to the ballroom?
“Mark I know definitely wants to come back, and Val, and so on,” Wade says.
ETA: Glamour has interviewed Rob Wade. You can read the full interview at this link. He talks on what they hope to bring to the table for Season 20 and lots more. Here is a take from the link…
Rob Wade: It’s exciting. It’s going to be a fresh season, and we’re really excited to celebrate the best of the show, but also to continue to innovate. We are going to expand on viewer interaction and hand more power to the viewers. All-Access will be bigger and better, and also we’re going to expand that behind-the-scenes access from not just the performance night, but to live feeds of rehearsals throughout the week at McCadden [where the dancers rehearse].
Joe Sungkur: So you can imagine how good that will be!
Rob: So if you’re at work during the day and wondering what your favorite couple might be doing, you can click on that and watch them rehearse.
Joe: And you can totally come on All-Access! That’s for sure!
Glamour: 100%! I would love to!
Joe: You’d be so great. We’d love to have you there.
Glamour: A couple weeks ago, I wrote about what I wanted to see DWTS do for season 20, one of which was an expansion to two nights a week again. Any chance of that happening?
Rob: In terms of schedule, we’re still going to be focused on Mondays at the moment, but things might change. We have a constant dialogue with ABC, and we’d be very happy to bring [Tuesday] back, but we like the show at one night a week and we like the show at two nights a week. One of the things that will be important is that we are upping the ante and expanding the show openers, giving the viewers more access to the backstage area and the couples than ever before. We are going to bring back some fan favorites, we are going to bring back Disney week, classical week. At the same time, we have new ideas that hopefully will provide more drama, more humor than ever before. We’re excited about it, and the tempo of the show from last season was very important. It felt like you weren’t sure what was going to happen from week to week and that will be the same. It won’t feel like the same show twice.
ETA2: There is also a new interview with Rob Wade at The TV Page. He talks of how Len may not be retiring afterall.
Wade says there is “every chance that Len will be back” for season 22 in the spring of 2016. “He wants to be back and we need to consider that.”
In the meantime, there is no rush to find a replacement, Wade says.
“We have four judges at the moment. Len goes and we have three. But we had three judges for a long time. So we can always stick with three.”
…in addition to her movie with Robert DeNiro and Zac Effron. She’s pimping a new razor too, along with a dance move competition.
ETA: Vogue and here’s another interview with Julianne. She talks on Derek in this one too….
ETA2: Here’s another interview with People…
This is a nice commercial for the tour. Makes me want to go.
Many congrats to Cheryl. Sounds like it could be interesting! According to People.com (thanks to DWTSGossip for the heads up):
Hold onto your sequins, Dancing with the Stars fans: two-time mirror ball trophy winner Cheryl Burke is quick-stepping over to a new network!
PEOPLE has learned exclusively that Burke, whose contract just expired on the ABC show, will star in a new project for NBC in 2015.
Burke, 30, will be one of several stars on a new variety show. The network isn’t ready to reveal the title now, but insiders promise the show will have a competitive element and that Burke will perform.
Once again, comment to your hearts contents, as long as you remember the show night rules. Also, for tonight, I’ve turned on comment moderation which means your post won’t show up immediately. At the end of the season we always seem to have an influx of trouble makers. Even MORE important that you don’t hit refresh constantly.
- Our server gets totally hosed when people sit at their computer and click “refresh” constantly. Post a comment, then walk away for five minutes so that others have a chance…and so that Courtney and I can actually post on the site.
- THIS SITE IS NOT TWITTER. Do not post like you are on twitter. You get one warning and then I put you in time out. We need context and content. Believe it or not there are a lot of people who don’t watch the east coast feed of the show, so they don’t know what the hell you’re talking about when you post a comment that says, “Boy, that sucked.” If you want to say “____ and ____’s dance was not good at all, crappy choreo” that’s fine. That would be context. It is good. Remember, if you post five one liners in five minutes, you’ve broken rule number 1.
This road to the finals thing is BORING!!
Awww…Sadie has really brought out a nice side of Mark. I’ve really loved them this season.
Trying to actually watch the show a bit….Opening number was rather underwhelming. Well, a lot underwhelming.
That behind the scenes thing…can’t tell if that’s forshadowing an Alfonso loss or a win. Really hard to tell. They’ve gotten so predictable that I actually expect them to be unpredictable. Sadly, I don’t think they’re that smart.
Damn, Bethany actually improved on that amazing freestyle. Best one won, I think, although Sadie and Alfonso weren’t far off.
Is it funny or annoying that they completely edited out the total screw up by production and just made it look like Bethany messed up. Bastards.
Sorry, got distracted by shirtless Derek on All Access. Where are we?
Are all the finalists going to do bumpers? Ah, Tom says yes.
Again, getting totally distracted by the BTS stuff on AllAccess. Watching Derek and Bethany practice their Paso. I’ll pay more attention. Lea dancing now.
That female pro dance was pretty awesome – it would have more impact if Mandy didn’t do one every other week….
Lol Len in the car with Cheech and Chong!!
Loved the thankful video.
Beautiful dance by some of the pros – I think he said choreographed by Emma and tony?
Man, Bethany killed both of her dances tonight!
I spy Britney Cherry dancing with Meghan Trainor. Along with James again.
Sadie going first? Doing quickstep/samba?? Kinda hosed, but mark gave her some great choreo. And she did great. Going first is the judges a chance to underscore her.
And she’s getting that you didn’t win comments.
Okay it’ll go one of two ways from here. Giving Sadie a perfect score either means she won, or they’re going to give everyone a 40 and let the audience make the call.
Hardest Road possible, Val? Are you on crack?
Where was the fox trot? It was supposed to be Paso foxtrot fusion. And the Chmerkovskiy brothers never managed to do an actual fusion they do one style after the other. Or they leave one style out.
More tens than any other couple because they make glaring mistakes and Julianne doesn’t care. Or Carrie ann doesn’t care. Easy to get lots of tens when your mistakes or overlooked.
Cha cha/AT combo? Hardest combo, best dancer the night. Alfonso definitely deserves to win.
Well, let’s see how this thing shakes out…
Third Place – Janel and Val
And someday people will listen to what we say around these parts. Just sayin’. We said 3rd and 4th places were between Janel and Bethany and that Sadie and Alfonso would be the last two standing. If it sounds like I’m saying “I told you so”….it’s because I am.
AND THE WINNER IS….
ALFONSO AND WITNEY!!!
Congratulations to Alfonso and Witney…and Sadie and Mark, for that matter.
Alfonso’s crying, Lindsay and Witney are screaming at each other (cute) and Derek is a bit late to lift Witney on his shoulders, but he doesn’t disappoint us yet again. And many kudos to Tony for working with Keo to lift Alfonso on his shoulders.
