Dancing with the Stars Season 16, Week 9 – Who’s Dancing What…and When?

Well, are we lacking a twitter vote this week? Praise the lord. But I’m sure a new gimmick will be announced in 5…4…3…

So it seems we are missing Jacoby’s first dance…could he be doing the same dance as Kellie for the third week in a row and be doing Argentine Tango?? And why are they the only ones mimicking each other in dances at this late stage?? Anyway, where’s Courtney? She’s the expert in who has what dances left. I *think* Jacoby has AT, Contemporary, Tango and Samba of the dances that have been danced this season. No one has done Waltz – fine by me. I think we only need Viennese Waltz. If they’re looking to get rid of him, he’s likely doing AT. If it’s Ingo headed out the door, he probably has Samba.

In no particular order….
ETA: Great. Kellie going first. That’s a great sign. Only not really.

DWTS Season 16, Week 8 – Who Got the Boot? (SPOILERS)

So, DWTS Producers, if you’re keeping track, here’s how much of your show we predicted well before it went on the air:

- That Zendaya would get the encore.

- That you would put Jacoby or Kellie in Jeopardy.

- That you would deviate from the “Bottom two” formula and revert to the “not necessarily the bottom two” formula so that you could not reveal that Ingo is also bottom two.

- That Derek’s new dance would be more incredible than anything he’s done so far.

- That Sean would be eliminated.

And we were correct on ALL counts. Aren’t you embarrassed?? Aren’t you embarrassed to so blatantly pimp an ABC employee? Aren’t you embarrassed by making a fool out of yourselves for the tweens who aren’t even watching the show?? The very best choreographer you have gets treated like crap by an OTT judge (and he’s just the latest in a long line to get OTT treatment) has not gotten ONE encore this season (while the Disney employee is on number 3). Not to mention that week after week you find a way to show NO behind the scenes footage of certain couples, but drool all over others.  Heads up – *I* am a regular viewer (soon to be former regular viewer) and you’re only listening to the squeaky, childish wheels.  I hope Derek wins an Emmy and tells you to shove it up your….

Anyway….how did we do? Well, Courtney and I barely made it through the first half of the show without falling asleep from boredom.

Heidi: Said Sean was going home and Ingo was in the bottom two OR there would be no bottom two and either Jacoby or Kellie would be there with Sean.

Courtney: Said Sean was going home with Ingo in position number two.

Vogue: Said Sean and Ingo in the bottom two with Sean leaving.

Winners?? Derek Hough for managing to always come out smelling like a rose with amazing f@#king talent, Zendaya for winning this show whether people vote for her or NOT, and Peanut for future super stardom – much deserved.

DWTS Season 16, Week 8 – Dancing by the Numbers

Well, I have to say, I’m about over this show. Sooo predictable. Zendaya not at the top for a couple weeks, so we better make sure she’s there tonight. Kellie was at the top for a couple weeks, we better make sure she has a fall. Derek starts talking creatively, prepare for the stupid from Len. Oh, and now Sean has to be the new Andy. Did he dance great? No. But neither did Ingo. Certainly not worthy of the points separating them.

It makes me sad, actually. I nearly forgot to turn the TV on tonight.  I can’t work up too much indignation over Kellie’s Paso because I knew in advance that that was how it was going to go. It’s Zendaya’s turn to be at the top of the leaderboard. Did she have the best dances of the night? I don’t actually REMEMBER.

I’m bored. Heads up DWTS – you’re losing me.

Numbers week 8

Anyway, Sean is pretty much toast and I don’t see any way around it. Yes, Ingo has been in the bottom two before, but Sean is significantly below him in score and he’s been in the bottom two also. What would it take for Sean to be safe?? He needs ONE of the following:

-        Sean needs 19,300 more votes per million votes cast than Ingo, OR;

-        Sean needs 32,200 more votes per million votes cast than Jacoby, OR;

-        Sean needs 41,800 more votes per million votes cast than Kellie, OR;

-        Sean needs 45,100 more votes per million votes cast than Aly, OR;

-        Sean needs 51,500 more votes per million votes cast than Zendaya.

Yeah, I don’t see that happening either. Now, his one hope, I think, is Ingo.  What does Ingo need to be safe tomorrow night? He needs ONE of the following things to happen:

-        Ingo needs for Sean to NOT get the 19,300 more votes per million votes cast than him, OR;

-        Ingo needs 12,900 more votes per million votes cast than Jacoby, OR;

-        Ingo needs 22,600 more votes per million votes cast than Kellie, OR;

-        Ingo needs 25,800 more votes per millon votes cast than Aly, OR;

-        Ingo needs 32,200 more votes per million votes cast than Zendaya.

I would go on, but I’m bored. If I turn out to be wrong, I’ll do a follow up post. In a nutshell, I predict Ingo and Sean in the bottom two with Sean going home. If not Sean, then Ingo.  If Ingo avoids the bottom two, then Jacoby will be there, but I kind of doubt it.  We’re about at that time in the season where they stop doing a “bottom 2” and start reverting to the “in no particular order” spiel. I would not be at all surprised to see a Jeopardy final two standing. For example, them saying Sean, you’re in jeopardy….then saying the same thing to Jacoby or Kellie and Ingo. No mention of bottom two, but putting Sean against someone other than Ingo….for the sake of Drama.

And then Sean goes home. Or Ingo, if Sean is lucky.

DWTS Season 16, Weeks 6 and 7 – The Cheesecake Awards, SUPERSIZED!!

Week 7 was actually so bad that I (Heidi) couldn’t come up with very many awards. I was overwhelmed. And not in a good way. :-)

WEEK 6

The “Who’s That Girl??” Award: Sharna Burgess for looking strikingly different in the rehearsal footage than she does on the actual show.

Heidi: She’s seriously naturally gorgeous without the make up – I think prettier without it. I think it’s the uniqueness of the dark hair and the blue eyes. Let’s hope she keeps it that way. For the love of all that is holy, DO NOT dye your hair blonde, Sharna. I know the temptation may be over whelming, but RESIST. Blonde females are a dime a dozen on that show.

Courtney: I think the makeup department may be to blame in this instance – they just love to over-smoke her eyes, just like they love to over-line Peta’s eyes, and put nude lipstick on Lindsay to make it look like she has no mouth.  They have an uncanny way of making naturally gorgeous ladies look totally over-done.  And as for the blondes – it’s times like this where I really miss Anna.  I could always spot her red hair whipping around in that sea of blonde :-(

The Award for Person Most likely to Earn a Punch in the Mouth (a.k.a. If you don’t STFU, I’m going to hit you HARD): Len Goodman, Sean Lowe and Ingo Rademacher for the constant mentions of Andy’s name, sometimes in a derrogatory way (Len).

Heidi: Seriously, you jackasses are that threatened by Andy?? Pissing me off, you were. Perhaps you too noticed all the females surround Andy after his dances….Kellie, Sharna, Kym, to name a few. Not to mention Derek is always high fiving him.  Me thinks you dudes are jealous. Don’t know what Len’s problem was – they showed on the results show that they scored Sean because he was “better than Andy.” What the hell??

Courtney: Methinks Sean & Ingo realized that Andy was quickly nipping at their heels in terms of ability – he was improving each week, while they were…languishing.  Plus Andy was gaining popularity, while they were…maybe not.  Andy may not have always been a stellar dancer, but he was definitely not fading into the woodwork like either of them.  As for Len – he’s just a horrible human being.  That’s the conclusion I’ve reached.

The Award for Person Most in Need of A Mirror….and a new lamp….and a glimpse at his Birth Certificate: Mark Ballas, for not only wearing his hat (with what looked to be a penis on it) cocked to the side like he’s all thug, but for wearing hammer pants and having gauges in his ears; (Dis)Honorable Mention: Will.i.am – same reason.

Heidi: Really dude?? You’re pushing 30 and you’re totally a white boy born and raised in London….and not the ‘hood portion.  Justin Bieber…who is what? Eight years younger than you? He looks stupid as hell in those outfits and he’s a kid. You, are an adult.  And I totally kept thinking you had a penis on your hat.  At least Will.i.am always looks stupid – you come to expect it. But Mark, you’re a good looking dude (I prefer blondes, but I can acknowledge it :-) ) – why’d you have to ruin it with bizarro costuming even when you’re not performing??

Courtney: I feel like Mark thinks it’s still 2001 and Sum 41 and New Found Glory are still ruling the airwaves.  And Lord knows what was going through Will’s head – that whole performance looked like a robotic bar mitzvah for MC Hammer, held in outer space.  Mazel tov, I guess?

The Blow Harder Award: To the Female Pros Dancing Around Stevie Wonder and blowing him kisses.

Heidi: Yo….Stevie is BLIND. Just sayin’.

Courtney: Poor Stevie probably just wondering why there was a sudden breeze. Read more..

Dancing with the Stars Season 16, Week 8 – Who’s Dancing What…and When?

Well, the stupid Twitter vote of the week…is just that. Another stupid twitter vote. Seriously – old men obsessed with Twitter a couple years AFTER the fact = DWTS Producers. So, this week, you get to vote for a dance style for your favorite couple. You get to choose one of these six dances: Afro-Jazz, Disco, Flamenco, Hip-hop, Lindyhop and Charleston. Once again, the producers have made it totally unfair and lopsided by including one dance that most of the pros likely know nothing about….and one dance that one of the contestants does for a living. Yeah, that’s fair. So, sure, let’s take a show that already has a lot of built in unfairness and make it even worse. Afro Jazz in this seasons Bhangra – but somehow I don’t think it will work out nearly as well unless people decide that Derek and Kellie get Afro-Jazz. How about we give the crazy style to someone who already has a lot of advantages – Zendaya. Why do I suspect she’ll end up with the Lindy? Or the hip hop? Not that that will necessarily benefit her this time around. :-)

Anyway, this week’s dances include trios, which actually worked out pretty well last season. I think, this week, Aly and Mark pretty much hit the jackpot. I think Aly will have no trouble with Jive and will likely be fine with AT. I expect Kellie will also do well with both her dances, although Derek is totally bummed that the V Waltz is only a minute and 6 seconds – how does one “connect” in that amount of time. Expect more crap from Carrie Ann “I hate all women with great bodies” Inaba. Of course, it does sound like Derek has a whole theme going that he “hopes” these judges will get. Good luck on that one, buddy. Probably get crap from Len this week too. I think Jacoby will do great with the Paso, but the V. Waltz?? Trouble. Zendaya? Fine and dandy on Salsa but the Foxtrot?? Probably good on that as well, but I don’t think she was quite as lucky as Aly this week. Not that it will matter.

Well, Derek and Kellie went third last week and Zendaya went last, so with my dance order I’m going to guess that they actually play fair and move Zendaya back to the middle. Which means I’ll be wrong, but it will be worth a shot. :-)

Derek Hough Blogs About DWTS Season 16, Weeks 7 and 8

Another very interesting and informative blog from Derek.  Not only is he not a fan of the whole “immunity” thing, but he actually says he doesn’t think that much emotional connection is necessary for Samba. While I agree with him, I can’t believe he’s actually disagreeing with Carrie Ann in print!! :-)  You’ll have to click the link to see that part, though.  Some excerpts from TV Guide.com:

It’s another busy week for us. I’m doing the Macy’s Stars of Dance and we have two full dances, one of which is a trio. I’m trying to do something new where I’m going to connect the two dances into one. We have the Viennese waltz and the paso doble, which are very different, so I’m going to make parallel universes. The set will be pretty much the same for both, but it’ll be different universes and there’ll be an element to go in the next dimension.

Does that make sense? I’m going to try to make it clear that they’re connected. I was thinking of having a cliff-hanger after one, but then I realized we have to be scored, so that kind of ruins that! That was originally what I had in mind, but now I’m making them separate but related. I really hope it won’t be too out there for the judges. I think just as long there’s enough content and technique, they’ll get it. In some dances, the story outweighs the content, but we’ll have enough of both hopefully.

Rehearsals are going well. Tristan is our trio partner, which is awesome. Kellie’s picking everything up, but we still have a bit more work to do. Carrie Ann was saying last week that she doesn’t feel the emotional connection from Kellie and I thought that was a fair comment. Hopefully this story will help in that it will put her in a world where she can somebody else. Unfortunately, the song is so short that it can be hard. The waltz is only one minute and six seconds

Hee hee…defending his brother to the end. That’s our Derek.

We were pretty surprised to get not only the highest score, but immunity. It was such a crazy week last week that we didn’t really expect it. It was a relief to know that we were safe, but it was also strange. I honestly don’t know how I feel about having immunity on the show. It’s certainly not my favorite new thing they’ve added. That would be the dancing bumpers we do now going in and out of commercials. I love those. It’s a great way of showcasing all our dancers and reminding everyone that this is a dancing show. It adds to the show and I’m not sure what immunity adds. But don’t get me wrong — I’m happy we didn’t have to sweat it out Tuesday.

We also didn’t have to do the dance-off, which was nice. We prepared for it. It’s funny because I hear and read all these comments about the selection process saying how people used or didn’t used strategy, and the truth is we all had it pre-planned. Andy wanted to do cha-cha because that was his best one of the three. Mark wanted to do cha-cha, so they just said to each other, “Hey, you want cha-cha too? We’ll pick each other.” Zendaya and Jacoby wanted to do jive, so they worked it out. And Sean and Ingo had no problem with the rumba since that was their individual dance too. Literally, everyone was going around making deals, like, “Can you pick me?” So it was funny to me to see people thinking Mark and Aly were dissing Andy by choosing him, but Andy told them to pick him!

DWTS Season 16, Week 7 – Who Got the Boot? (SPOILERS)

So…how many encores have Mark and Aly had now?? :::sigh:::  This show was all right, I guess. Allison has gone blonde, which is disappointing – like, so few dancers are blonde these days. :::rolls eyes:::  Anyway….kind of a non-event. I think she actually dances better with Derek – just my opinion.  Anyway….

Very sad night in the ballroom. Ingo and Andy in the bottom two, with Andy going home. He handled it like a champ….and called out Carrie Ann, for which he gets props from me.

How did we all do??

Heidi: I thought it would be Andy and Sean in the bottom two with Andy going home. Ingo in the bottom two, if not Sean.

Courtney: Court said Andy was going home, with Ingo in the bottom two with him.

Vogue: Said Andy was going home.  Ingo in the bottom two.

Winner?  NO ONE. Bastards.

DWTS Season 16, Week 7 – Dancing by the Numbers

I think this is probably the stupidest thing that DWTS has EVER done. Seriously – these dancers had to learn FOUR dances this week?? Some can barely do ONE dance. So, as a result, we see a bunch of weak dancing and some horrendous dancing. The top 3 – Kellie, Zendaya and Aly – were not nearly as good as they could have been. I saw a whole bunch of Derek Hough choreography from half the pros NOT named Derek Hough (but who were named Mark, Karina and Val) – can’t say I blame them, given the lack of time.  Dear lord – I think about what Kellie, Zendaya and Aly (and Jacoby) could have done with just ONE dance it just pisses me off. All could have been brilliant instead of just….good. In a couple cases, quite good.

To top it off – come on. That scoring was SO pre-determined and, in terms of Kellie, Aly and Zendaya, totally irrelevant. When you give Andy a 17, you have made your agenda clear. He was NOT that much worse than either Sean or Ingo, but you have your goals, don’t you judges.  The added benefit was, of course, Zendaya’s fans are pissed and highly motivated.  As I’ve come to call it, “Scenario #2” – the one that we discussed where they give Zendaya a 27  or 28 so when she kills the challenge she ends up with a 30 or higher – was likely part of the plan. Sooo freakin’ safe it isn’t even funny. Same for Aly. Oh, and speaking of the challenge – congrats Val, you earned the Chmerkovskiy name by being a total dick (sorry Andy) by saying you’re going to “pick on someone your own size”.   By the way – you are NOT a good Paso choreographer. That point has been made pretty strongly. Too much empty space…and, although not your fault, Zendaya’s age showed in her softer limbs. You should not talk them up ahead of time – it will always come back to bite you.

Karina? Foolish for letting Jacoby pick Jive – a Rumba would have been awesome.  Awesomely squicky which would have added a bit of ….something….to tonight. But something tells me that TPTB weren’t going to let that happen. Someone pre-determined that – either the pros or the producers.

Okay, I’m almost done ranting. I do wonder how they will work the cumulative score after this. Are they counting the three points? Because that would hose Kellie and Derek. But since half the cast got hosed last night, may as well include them.

Okay, now the questions: Derek apologized to his grandparents for taking off his shirt and said he didn’t want to – so….that begs the question: Why did he? Are the producers that into it that they asked him to? Also, how badly did they explain this immunity thing to the pros?? Derek looked shocked after the first challenge dance when he heard Tom say that they couldn’t be eliminated. Maybe he was just overly tired (Um, see the video from The W, in addition to his touring with Kellie – LOL), but Mark also looked like he didn’t know what the hell was going on, prior to doing their challenge dance. I sense….weirdness. To say the least.

:::sigh::: Anyway, the leader board looks like this. I left in Kellie and Derek’s score because I think they are likely included in the total since they were points awarded by the judges.  I just won’t talk about them in the contest of possible eliminations. If I don’t get too tired, I will look and see what difference those 29 points make in the spread.

week 7

So, as you can see, the immunity is likely not the least bit necessary when you have people in the 30’s and Andy with a 17.  Kinda ridiculous. As I said in an earlier post about this whole Immunity thing, it’s unlikely that it has any real impact on the top three ladies – the spread is too huge. It’s always possible that Zendaya’s fans aren’t voting in huge numbers, or Kellie/Derek’s fans have said “fuck it” after last season…or that Aly just got started too late…but with a 13 point spread (at minimum), it is unlikely that Andy is a threat to either Zendaya or Aly.

So why do it?? ADHD?? Andy getting too many votes? As I said way back when, I tend to think it has more to do with who’s getting too many votes, not who isn’t getting enough. But I guess you never know.

Anyway, what has to happen for Andy to be safe? He needs ONE of the following things:

-        Andy needs 38,100 more votes per million votes cast than Sean, OR;

-        Andy needs 43,500 more votes per million votes cast than Ingo, OR;

-        Andy needs 54,400 more votes per million votes cast than Jacoby, OR;

-        Andy needs 70,700 more votes per million votes cast than Zendaya, OR;

-        Andy needs 82,000 more votes per million votes cast than Aly.

NOW do you see why the immunity is unnecessary??  Those are HUGE numbers. Seriously, even to get past Sean will be a stretch for Andy. And I think this is what they wanted all along. Sean and Ingo are both family, Jacoby is popular and the ladies can all dance really well. Andy has served his purpose. Next week is week 8 and he’ll be back in week 10. People will barely have time to miss him. Or so they think.

But what if all the Kellie fans who were voting for Andy had an impact? How much danger is Sean in? For Sean to be safe, he needs ONE of the following to happen:

-        Sean needs for Andy to NOT get the 38,100 more votes per million votes cast than him, OR;

-        Sean needs 5,500 more votes per million votes cast than Ingo, OR;

-        Sean needs 16,400 more votes per million votes cast than Jacoby, OR;

-        Sean needs 32,700 more votes per million votes cast than Zendaya, OR;

-        Sean needs 44,500 more votes per million votes cast than Aly.

Sean and Andy have both been in the bottom two. Sean was in the bottom two with Victor even though Andy had lower score…but Andy only needed 8k votes to get past Sean.  This week the spread between Andy and Sean is as large as it was between first and last place last week – that’s huge. We have no idea if Andy has that kind of juice. He did get an assist from Kellie, who asked her fans to vote for him. We’ll see.

It’s going to be either Sean, Andy or Ingo – no question to me. I think it will be Sean and Andy in the bottom two with Andy going home. Ingo could take Sean’s place in the bottom two, if Sean gets the relatively small 5,500 votes he needs to get past Ingo.

But I don’t think Andy makes it past either Sean or Ingo, so he’s headed home. And that makes me sad. This is one of those weeks where I pray I’m wrong.

DWTS Season 16, Week 7 – Latin Night or Survivor (Washington Times Blog)

Dang, that’s a great title. I SO wish I had thought of it. :-)  Gayle Falkenthal at the Times has many of the same questions about tonight that we do – and thanks for the props, Gayle. We appreciate it.  Click the link to read the whole article – I’ve put a small excerpt below:

This week, DWTS fans assumed they would get a gimmick free week of nothing but classic Latin ballroom dancing from the competitors. All the couples have danced at least one Latin style so far, but they will get to explore something new this week and work hard to master the specific style assigned to them.

Not so fast, twinkle toes.

According to ABC’s news release, the remaining seven couples will perform their assigned Latin dances. The top couple based on the judges’ scores will be safe from elimination for the week (i.e., the couple gets immunity). The remaining six couples will then participate in a Dance Off. They will compete against another couple doing either the Cha Cha Cha, Jive, or Rumba. The judges will pick a winner from each pair, and the winner will add three points to his or her score.

The couples scoring second through fourth get to pick their opponents. How will they choose? It would make sense to pick off the competitor you think will score lowest. For example, if Kellie comes in second, she’s likely to pick Andy Dick as her opponent. How the dance style gets assigned isn’t clear. Perhaps the couple who gets picked to compete gets to choose the dance style.

Dancing with the Stars Season 16, Week 7 – Who’s Dancing What…and When?

Our gimmick of the week (this is becoming a bad habit) is Immunity followed by dance challenges for three points which you can read about here and here. What a bunch of…

Anyway, thanks to the Latin dances that were already performed this season, Latin night has the potential to be one big snooze. FOUR rumbas??  Luckily, the good dancers got more entertaining dances. Conversely, and unfortunately, the dancers who aren’t all that are dancing Rumba, which could easily be a disaster. A really BAD disaster. I think Jacoby was extremely lucky to get Salsa this particular week, as was Zendaya in getting Paso Doble. I would call Kellie and Derek lucky too, but she had three concerts this week. Derek is happy thus far so I guess it will be fine. But the lower tier are dancing rumba….oy veh.

I’ve made a guess at the dance order – I will likely be totally wrong, but I figure they will start with Kellie and end with Zendaya – the two dancers that are likely vying for immunity. Since it’s likely more beneficial to go last in this instance, my guess is that Zendaya will be the one.  Of course, if you go first and get a 30 (Zendaya) then you have a standard to measure everyone else against. I would give Aly a shot at immunity, like I did in previous posts, but it turns out that Mark is injured and Aly may well be dancing with Henry. Even if she’s not dancing with Henry, she’s practiced with him all week. Maybe for this reason SHE will be given the last spot.  I guess we’ll see. :-)

I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. And I'm cynical and jaded too. But I do love DWTS. :-)
