DWTS Season 21, Week TEN – Dancing by the Numbers

I wrote this week’s numbers post two different ways because we’re not sure how they’re counting votes and scores.  I was thinking they would use both the 9th and the 16th scores and votes, since there wasn’t a true elimination. But then it was suggested that since Tamar was “eliminated” and that they revealed a supposed low combined scoring person, that they would simply use the votes and scores from this past Monday (the 16th). Plus, when you look at the scores from 9th, it’s very likely was Tamar that would have been eliminated naturally, if she hadn’t withdrawn. She only had one point on Alek, after all.  But who knows? I’ll just write it both ways. It’s instructive to see what huge numbers of points does to the margins.

ETA: And Option number 1 it is! Per Orlando Sentinel and Just Jared as a back up:

One couple will be ejected as Monday’s show ends. ABC said that couple will have “the lowest combined viewer and judge votes from the previous two weeks.”

The first option is they use the points and scores from both weeks. And, as you can see, that’s a whole lotta points.

DWTS Week 10 table 1

Alek is the low man on the totem pole doing it this way, with Bindi way out in front and Nick in third place. Kinda crazy. Kinda suspicious. Are we going to hear that Carlos is going to go on tour shortly?? I don’t get the appeal. Read more..

I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. Derek Hough’s DWTS 21, Week 10 Blog – On Quicksteps, Freestyles and Voting for Your Favorite

Another great blog from Derek this week. A few things I gleaned from it – He’s sick, he’s doing new quickstep choreography, he agrees with me when I said that freestyles are not that special any more, and either Bindi or Nick were in the bottom two. And he wants Bindi to win. :-)  I think he mis-speaks when he says that four couples do the relay on Tuesday. At least I hope so. From TV Guide – click the link to read the whole thing:

Our freestyle really embodies love and there are things in the routine that are not effects, but are nice looks and lighting and things of that nature that make it feel very raw and authentic. When I look at Bindi, I see someone who’s extremely raw and authentic. I feel like the dance needed to match her.

Since it’s super-sized, we’ll be parachuting in. Kidding! Here’s the thing for me about super-sized freestyles: I think it made sense like five seasons ago. The show has evolved in a way that our weekly dances are basically freestyles. You look at the set, having the troupe dancers and these new styles like contemporary and jazz — they give you a lot of freedom with the dance. Compare that to the earlier seasons. You didn’t have all that extra stuff in the weekly dances, so a freestyle actually felt like a freestyle. But I think it’s more important to have the honesty and for the freestyle to reflect the person, so maybe sometimes it should be super-sized. It’s really important to look at it like, “What’s the right thing to do here?” and resist the impulse to super-size everything just because you can. Bindi has really affected me in a big way. She’s been the most unbelievable surprise for me. When you have been on the show as long as I’ve been for almost 10 years, you start to look at it like, “What else do I have in me?” I have to make things new and fun and interesting and inspiring. I try to find my ways. But Bindi made it easier because she just brought this amazing energy, inspiration and light. It just kind of reinvigorated me. I also felt a tremendous sense of responsibility because I’m such a fan of her dad. He did everything with passion and joy, so to have his daughter put in the care of you for three months, I took it quite seriously. I can’t speak on her behalf, but for me, I certainly felt this extra sense of energy in the room, that third person. So I just want to finish it with that same energy.

Our other dance is the quickstep. It’s like 20-minute dance. No, it’s like a minute and 50 seconds, but it feels like 20 minutes. A quickstep is exhausting! You’re not allowed to break hold, so we’re just going for almost two minutes. But Bindi’s incredible and it’s looking good. On Tuesday, we’ll have the fusion with the remaining three couples, so we have no idea what that will be yet.

Carrie Ann Inaba Blogs about DWTS Season 21, Week 10

As always, I agree with some stuff, roll my eyes at other things. From Parade Magazine – click the link to read her thoughts on all the dancers:

Alek Skarlatos had a very good night as well. Having the waltz and the Argentine tango with Emma and Lindsay was a lucky blessing for him. He’s so incredible in hold and he’s so incredibly strong and solid that partnering two dynamic women who could be totally secure in his frame and base, made these dances shine brightly. Yes, perhaps he is not the most fluid dancer, and we can see that in certain performances—namely the salsa, samba and some of the Latin dances but he did raise his game last night with the cha-cha. There is something to be said about performing the moves with clarity and proper technique. This is what he has accomplished so well. His training shows up in every dance. I can see the attention he has put into learning technique. He didn’t start out as the most expressive dancer, but he’s found his own unique performance style and I find it very exciting. He places his feet so clearly, so precisely, there is no doubt in his performances which creates a dramatic energy that is fantastic. There is an artistry in his perfection of movement. And it’s exciting to see him in the finals. I didn’t expect it…I don’t know if anyone did, but isn’t it great, that he continues to strive for perfection and attains new levels of performance every week? His steadiness and his power worked well in his Argentine tango. He provided the strongest base for a trio I have ever seen. It was quite stunning. And because Alek may not be good at all the dances, we judge one dance at a time, separately. And last night he had some stunning performances.

The DWTS Finalists on GMA Live Stream (Video)

GMA did a live stream tonight with Tony and Melissa talking to all the finalists. This is where we are getting tiny little glimpses of what their judges redo dances might be. So far, Bindi MIGHT have quickstep and Carlos MIGHT have foxtrot. Lindsay apparently straight up said they were doing Waltz.

Tony picks Bindi and all I hear is Peta blasting NICK IS REALLY GOOD. LOL…at least Tony has no bias in this one. :-)

First up is Alek and Lindsay, followed by Bindi and Derek and the rest. Lindsay talks alot about the dances and their freestyle. Sounds like it’s going to be lift heavy, which is his strong suit but which may backfire.

Dancing with the Stars Season 21, Week 10 – LIVE BLOG (Spoilers)

Two more Mondays to go.  Will tonight be dreadful, or was last week the real low point of the series? Only time will tell.  All I can hope for is some great dancing.

T-minus 30 minutes…

Nice little opening number. I guess.

Bindi’s package made me weepy. No surprise.

NOTE: DO NOT POST ONE LINER COMMENTS AND CONTINUALLY REFRESH THE PAGE!! It’s the finale – breaking the rules might get you temporarily banned. The traffic is too high for this.

Not a Salsa fan, so it’s no shock that that’s not my favorite dance of Bindi’s. I was momentarily confused, thinking she was doing samba, then I realized that’s later. Kinda hosed doing two similar dances in one night.

CAI telling her she’s too clean?? Oy veh. Talk about ridiculous.

Alek’s package will get him a bunch of votes…and his dance was just lovely!! I loved it.

Hmmmm….I would be scared of that perfect score, Alek fans. Seriously, *Alek* gets three points higher than Bindi?? Bindi Irwin??

Carlos should stop talking. For reals.

What was the point of the rope and the direct rip off on Derek and Amy’s freestyle ending?? That…sucked….

So, that crap dance is one point better than Bindi’s “too clean” salsa?? Seriously?? And the person with the highest cumulative points of the season is currently on the bottom of the leaderboard? Yeah, that’s not at all funky. :::rolls eyes:::

Not much tango in that tango and his (Nick) feet were a mess at the beginning. It just looked…funky and not in a good way. :::sigh:::

Sad commentary on my thoughts on the show…I was sure they would give him the same score as Bindi. Don’t worry, dude – they already have you marked down for beating Bindi in the dance off.

I don’t know if anyone has done the math, but if Nick beats Bindi and Carlos beats Alek in the dance offs, Carlos will be at the top of the leader board by point and Nick and Bindi will be tied for last place.

Great dance from Jenna and Val!

Oh god. Tamar is OFF the show!! Give it a rest. I feel for her, but damn. The producers on this show are drama junkies and they’ve infected Tom.

Think about it – Tamar has virtually dominated the show for two weeks now.

Got to hand it to Alek, he is having fun with it. Loved it. Is Carlos the better dancer? Sure. Was he more entertaining than Alek? Nope. I’m sure this score will surprise no one.

CAI throwing the pity vote. Erin trying REAL HARD not to give away what they’re doing tonight and almost blowing it.

Bindi and Derek going first?? Bindi should have won that one easily with the samba rolls. There was no contest. Nick again coming up short on content compared to Bindi.

Ah, the judges do something unexpected and give the points to the right person.

Mark and Derek scare me. Every time. That kicked serious ass.

Holy crap, two great dances from Alek tonight. I also have to say that Lindsay has been schooling both Witney and Sharna in terms of choreo. I’ve enjoyed Alek’s dances more than either Nick or Carlos, this week in particular.

Judges are CRAP.

That was a pretty good Charleston, on it’s own – but compared to the Charleston that we saw in the middle of Bindi’s dance last week, it wasn’t so much.

I’m sure they didn’t plan at all for Bindi and Carlos to be tied. Not at all. :::cough:::

Was that another Disco number from Nick and Sharna?? It was a good dance…but it seemed familiar.

There ain’t no time for an elim, is there? Tom did say that either Nick/Sharna or Bindi/Derek had the lowest combined total. Do we actually believe him, or was that him workin’ some BS??

This post is dedicated to Vogue’s wonderful dad, Rodney, who was also a DWTS and PureDWTS fan. Rest in peace, Rodney – you’ll be missed. xoxo

Carlos PenaVega’s DWTS Blog After Week 9

Well, this is certainly interesting. The most interesting thing is what he says about his contemporary dance, considering what we saw for Bindi’s Trio dance sounds just like it. Makes me wonder where Witney is getting her ideas. I would bet the producers vetoed it because Derek was already doing it. Interesting they didn’t get told about the 3rd dance until Thursday. Other than that, Carlos echos what  a lot of us have said about Tamar and Alexa.  From People.com – thanks to DWTS Gossip for the heads up:

My heart goes out to Tamar for having to quit the show [because she was diagnosed with blood clots in her lungs], but it is tough knowing that Lex could still be in this competition with me if Tamar had quit before the end of Monday’s show.

Witney and I have been talking about our contemporary dance since day one. Witney had this great concept that involved this giant cube and a rope. We were really excited about it but then we were told it wasn’t possible to do on the live show.

We let go of the idea of using the cube, but Wednesday Witney and I went in and really fought to use the rope and they eventually figured out a way for us do it.

I’m really glad we’re getting to do Witney’s vision, but working with the rope has been way harder than we anticipated. It worked perfectly the first time we went through the routine, but after that it was causing a lot of stress.

DWTS Season 21 Finale to be Taped at the Grove, LA

“Who Will Make it to the Finale?” DWTS Promo for Week 10

Well, they *sorta* make it sound like they will eliminate someone on Monday, but I don’t believe them. Listen to how it’s all worded. And of course they are still beating the Tamar horse. :::rolls eyes::: The thing you have to remember is that they could be referring to the finale *night* which would be Tuesday, not Monday.

Bindi Irwin at the DWTS Rehearsal Studios – Photos and Video

The Daily Mail has a few cute photos of Bindi and her boyfriend Chandler, apparently from yesterday. They also have this video from Today in Australia. Confession time – there are times when I don’t see every video that Vogue posts because of my traveling plus my share of the website duties. So, it’s entirely possible that she posted this before and I missed it. And, in addition to all that, my memory sucks at times. :-)

Strictly Come Dancing Week 8 With Gleb Savchenko, Tristan MacManus, & More: Videos, Review Show

Hi all, Heidi here. Vogue asked me to send you all her love as she can’t be here today. Please send her strength and healing vibes, as today is going to be a difficult day for her.  (((Vogue)))

She also asked me to put up this post for all the Strictly fans. I’ve not been watching the show this season, so I’m not sure what’s going on, but I did see in the last post who’s dancing what, thanks to Mr. A in the comments. I do have an objection to the Gleb hashtags which implies that he created that move he did last week – you know, the one he took from Derek and Shawn’s Mambo in 2012. Lucky for him he’s so good looking. 😉

Anyway, Gleb and Anita are apparently doing a Quickstep to ‘Don’t Get Me Wrong’ by The Pretenders.  I looked for a video but couldn’t seem to find one of Gleb doing quickstep.

Tristan Macmanus and Jamelia will be performing the Samba to ‘A Little Respect’ by Erasure.  If you want to see what everyone else is dancing, Mr A listed them all in the comments of the previous SCD post.

For more dance information on the other couples, see the official Strictly Come Dancing site. As always, let us know on all of your thoughts in comments. Who did you like the best and who will be in the dance off and go home? Feel free to rank them if you like too. Lastly and more importantly, BE SURE TO VOTE right after the show! Don’t forget Blackpool Week is confirmed for Week 9, so, we want to make sure our favorite couples get there. THANKS EVERYONE!! You’ve made this season of both versions of Dancing With The Stars a blast!

Here are the times and some Live Streams (works the best with a PC). (Check the Times for me – I simply copied from last week and it seems like the UK is a bit more fluid than the US.)

Watch SCD 1 (works for UK and other International viewers)
Watch SCD 2 (works for US viewers and possibly Internationally)
Watch SCD 3 (works for US Viewers and possibly Internationally)
Watch SCD 4 (works for US Viewers and possibly Internationally)
Watch SCD 5 (works for US Viewers and possibly Internationally)

Stay tuned for updates. In the meantime, see Andrea’s You Tube Channel to watch the “It Takes Two” episodes this week if you missed them.

ETA: Thanks to Andrea, here are the dances from Gleb and Tristan (and their partners). Len didn’t say a word about the breaking hold in the middle of the quickstep – he’s always such a different judge on the UK version.
