Did ABC say “No” to Men Dancing Together on Dancing with the Stars?

Note the question mark in the title. I have no idea if this is true but I saw it yesterday and decided to report on it. I only hesitated yesterday because it was only showing up on a business blog. Still today, none of the mainstream media has picked it up (that I’ve seen) and run with it, despite the original source being TMZ (click to read the whole article).  Gay marriage is legal in how many states and there are how many openly gay characters on network television??  So, what’s the deal here…if true?

Sources connected with the show tell TMZ, the issue came up over an upcoming performance by an openly gay artist who goes by the name, Who Is Fancy. The performance is set for November 23, where he will debut his new song, “Boys Like You,” featuring Ariana Grande and Meghan Trainor, who will also appear on the show.

The song is about a man falling in love with another man. We’ve learned Who Is Fancy’s choreographer sent an email to a ‘DWTS’ producer, saying, it would “be an awesome look to have 2 males dancing with each other.”

Our sources say the ‘DWTS’ honchos discussed it and a producer fired back an email, saying, “Apologies all but this is a definitive no from the network.”

Apparently, it’s okay for Carlos and Alek to dance “near” each other. Wonder how the network felt about Val and Carlos doing salsa together??

Carlos PenaVega and Witney Carson Talk DWTS Week 10 and Alexa on Fox 11 (Video)

You heard it here – Carlos and Witney don’t think Alexa will be back and they believe they will be given a third dance to do on this coming Monday night. I guess that’s better than filling with mindless drama fluff…but damn.

Where Have You Gone, Dancing with the Stars? Heidi Rants.

Well, I feel I have to get something off my chest.

I loved (yes, past tense) Dancing with the Stars. Unashamed and openly. But what the current producers have done to this show has made it unrecognizable. A mere shadow of its formerly great self.

It started small. I’m not even sure I can put my finger on WHERE it started. There were signs for years that DWTS was, at it’s core, a reality show – for sure, a reality show that is highly produced. But it was so subtle, so nuanced – there weren’t competing agendas that impacted the direction of the show, such as the tour.  It featured ballroom dancing by celebrities from all walks of life. It showed, very clearly, to the masses that professional dancers are elite athletes with highly conditioned bodies and sublime talent and creativity. It introduced us to the talents of people like Derek Hough, Mark Ballas, and Julianne Hough – the three who took a ballroom dancing show and pushed it to the next level. All the professional dancers upped their game and pushed themselves to be better, more creative, dancers. They all were responsible for bringing ballroom dancing to gorgeous, entertaining heights and into, at times, 15 to 20 million households (back in the day).  We met celebrities that were often B list at best – and grew to love them more than they had ever enjoyed before, in some cases. It redeemed many celebs, humanized them…and showed us journeys of growth and friendship and camaraderie. The celebrities that caused me to roll my eyes or guffaw with laughter when they were announced, often turned out to be some of my favorite contestants ever on the show. Sadie Robertson…Rob Kardashian…Tommy Chong…Kelly Osborne…Bill Engvall…Snookie…the list is really too long. Read more..

Dancing with the Stars Season 21, Week 9 – LIVE BLOG (Spoilers)

Maybe we should start a drinking game on Tamar and Alek’s bad packages. And for every time Julianne hands out a score based on feared backlash. And for every time one of them says “If you’re here next week…”

Sad when you go into your once favorite TV show expecting to be pissed off at least once during the evening.

T-minus 30 minutes…

ICYMI – Vogue reported that Tamar has pneumonia and her performing is questionable.

Alek did pretty well!! And he wasn’t too hosed on scores. The manscaping was more than I really needed to see.

FYI – Val whining about about their schedule on All Access. He didn’t even know Tamar had left. In other news, Sharna forgot the makeup mirror has a camera. I saw more than I needed to see. Sorry Sharna.

Great contemporary number by Alexa and Mark – enjoyed it more than Nick’s last week. A bit repetitive in a couple spots, but if she doesn’t get a perfect score I cry foul.

OK, first stupid thing for the night – Carlos’ AT song?? Ludicrous. I didn’t even know what style it was there for a while. Have to agree with CAI, as much as it pains me to say so.

Bindi is the sweetest thing ever…and that was a beautiful V. Waltz. And no, I don’t think that was a lift, but I expect the random lift caller to yell about it.

Yes, Val, we’re very aware that you’ve never had so many challenges before. Poor Tamar though. Judges are going to score the dress rehearsal.

I have to say, she looks rather unwell…kinda sweaty. Unsteady on her feet. I think the 7s were a bit harsh.

Oh for fuck’s sake, Sharna just threw out that she hasn’t won yet. Boo f8cking who.

Derek and Mark on All Access saying they didn’t get to see their show until Thursday so they didn’t get to start it until Friday.

Took WAY too long to get into hold for Nick and Sharna, and then they got out of hold way to early. Len would give that a 7. How about you do the assigned style, bud?

Julianne!! The dance is supposed to be in hold!! Bruno is out of control. Dance should get all 8s for lack of content.

So Rob Wade picked the teams?? Nice. Let’s not have anything happen naturally.

I love Alek… “Carlos, yer gonna die, ahahahahahahaha” Wow…great package.

I don’t know if that was the best technically, but I enjoyed the hell out of it. :-) The judges that raved over a quickstep that had way too little in hold, are being overly harsh on a ridiculous theme dance.

And the scores were harsh as expected.

Okay, that dance kicked ASS!!! Wow. Perfect. One tiny sync issue at the very end, but damn, that would be a tiny nit pick.

Man, they were VERY kind to Tamar and Nick’s dance. I feel for Tamar, I really do – but….

Crap, either Alexa or Carlos is going home. I knew they wouldn’t be able to resist putting them in jeopardy against each other.

And, unfortunately, Alexa is eliminated. Called it wrong this week – she was like my third choice.

In other news, the producers have reached a new level of disgusting stealth cam behavior. You guys just disgust me. To an extreme. Carlos…spare me dude. She’s not dying.

Seriously, the last five minutes of this show made me not care if I saw it again. Derek Hough, get thee to Broadway – they don’t deserve you. And they don’t deserve Mark either.

DWTS Season 21, Week 10 – Who’s Dancing What…and When?

So, what kind of crazy assed, ridiculous, redundant and stupid theme will we have to endure in week 10??

Vogue here: LOL Heidi! Well, guess what? According to the Afterbuzz interviews (you can watch them in the new Media and Interviews Post), it’s “Trio’s” week! The couples also have a “ballroom” dance. Sharna revealed they will be dancing with Peta for their Trio dance (Yay! She’s back!). Lindsay said she and Alek have a Waltz and an Argentine Tango, but, they didn’t say for which dance. Also, JC Rubio tweeted that Emma will be back (not sure how yet?).

ETA2: As most of you have already heard, Tamar withdrew.  Also got confirmation that Emma is in Alek & Lindsay’s trio (!!!!) and they have Argentine tango (double !!!), which means their individual dance is waltz. Also looks like Carlos revealed his dances & songs in some interview…sorry guys, just waking up to all this stuff, so let me know if anything is missing…and please provide a source :-) – Court-

ETA3: Apparently Victor mentioned in his Snapchat that Karina is in Carlos’ trio.  Gonna trust you guys with anything Snapchat-related, because I hate it and can only be bothered to use it to talk to my sister. -Court-

ETA4: Per Derek’s blog, Mark is tentatively in their trio, depending on his injury, and it’s a jazz trio. Complete guess on my part, but if Mark can’t dance, I could see Sasha stepping in. Their individual dance is salsa, and he also mentions this mysterious “3rd dance” that TPTB have thrown in to fill time since Tamar withdrew. -Court-

ETA5: So, according to People.com, the mystery dance is a dance off where the winning couple gets 3 points. And yes, the manipulation gene is strong in these producers. Bindi is dancing against Nick – a samba which he has already done. Carlos versus Alek is a cha cha – which Carlos has already done. These…..people…just can’t help themselves. The BS just never ends. Ya know, with the way they add dances to this show, it’s not hard to find two dances that neither couple has done to at least attempt to make it fair.

ETA6: So per Deep Throat, apparently Carlos is no longer doing a samba trio, and the song they’re using is NOT the Austin Mahone one he mentioned.  DT says it “looks more like a Charleston or jazz” and the song they’re using sounds “old-timey”. So what happened? Don’t know for sure – did Carlos misspeak? Did Witney veto the song/dance? Did Carlos just suck at samba and they threw him something he was more likely to handle well? Discuss. -Court-

ETA7: According to Derek, he and Bindi are dancing first tonight. Dance order doesn’t matter much at this stage of the game, but I do wonder WHY they’re going first. To be underscored, or to set the bar for the rest. ~Heidi

DWTS Season 21, Week 9 (Lame) Promo – Only Three Weeks Left!

I’m not a Tamar/Val fan, but they are getting a real hatchet job here. Tacky, producers, tacky. As Elsa said – Let it go. As Heidi says, let it f#@&ing go.  I totally believe Tamar when she was coached into saying that line (although Val should have warned her) and we’ve seen this tactic before.  Of course the celebs couldn’t possibly look bad if they didn’t give the producers material to use – but they’ve replayed this ONE CLIP so many times now that it’s just disgusting. Come ON!! It’s not like Hope Solo and Maks who gave the producers multiple instances of bad behavior – if there was a pattern here, we wouldn’t keep seeing this one clip over and over and over.  Is this the new era of DWTS??  What’s next? Making Bindi cry? Give Nick a blue teddy bear to remind people he knocked up his wife?? Make Mark propose to BC Jean? It’s a shame there’s no one in a romance so you can use your very tacky stealth cam.

DWTS Season 21, Week EIGHT – Dancing by the Numbers

What a week. I don’t even know where to start with how disappointed I am in the blatant shenanigans of the judges and the producers. I’m quite disgusted. It does lead me to wonder just how scripted the judges were…and clearly, how worried they are about how they are perceived by the squeaky wheels on social media (looking at you Jules).

Anyway, it’s over and done with and despite their best attempts at…whatever…I doubt they were totally successful. Bindi’s fans are rallied, Alek’s likely are as well, Nick’s are…Nick’s.  They’re likely rallied to defend their guy for his part in the “baby shower” (tm Cidra) that was Monday night. That leaves Carlos, Tamar and Alexa pretty much forgotten in the middle. I mean really, I doubt that was their intent, but at the end of the day you have three fired up fanbases who likely didn’t need firing up – and probably not what you intended at all.

As always, I could be wrong, but it seems to me that if you were looking to shake up the leader board and give Nick a boost, you SHOULDN’T tell Bindi she’s in a league of her own, that you can’t give her “10s every week” and that you’re “searching really hard for a flaw” before giving her a nine and Nick enough points to get within striking distance of her cumulative score (which WILL become important later in the season, I’m sure). First, the fans aren’t STUPID – they see why you’re “searching” and the reasons aren’t good. Second, saying all those things makes it look like some sort of conspiracy (like, why do you HAVE to look harder at her than you do at anyone else?). Third…can’t think of a third. Anyway, why not just say her shoulders looked like a problem to you and give her a 9?? Talking too much gets these judges in trouble. Read more..

DWTS Season 21, Week 9 – Who’s Dancing What…and When?

Here’s what we know so far for Dancing With The Stars Week 9. Next week the couples have an individual dance as always. They also have a “Duet” dance with another couple. When talking on the Duet Dance, Sharna mentions in a new E Online interview (new interviews here) that they are travelling to Las Vegas (not sure if she means all the couples or not?). She and Nick are paired with Val and Tamar for their Duet Dance.

ETA: Vogue here again. Mark and Alexa have a Contemporary dance and a Charleston next week. Not sure which is used for their individual or their Duet Dance? They are also bringing in Travis Garland to sing a beautiful song. Alexa hints that it might be a little “damp” next week.

ETA2: According to Glamour, Nick, Sharna, Val, and Tamar are going to Vegas to get inspired for their Duet dance. Also, Mark & Alexa and Bindi & Derek are Duet Partners. They are headed to New York City to get inspired for their dance. More details at Glamour.

ETA3: According to our intel, one of the Duets is going on a Cruise Ship. Glamour revealed this news as well.

ETA4: So, Derek and Mark have been switched from NYC to the Cruise. Alek and Carlos are in NYC. That leaves Tamar and Nick in Vegas. The clusterf*ck continues, as last we heard, Derek and Mark were to do a Charleston inspired by an NYC show. No idea if the dance style changed with the locale. ~Heidi

ETA5: Per Carlos’ Instagram, he, Alek, Witney, and Lindsay are on a cruise, which left from NYC. Seems like there was NOT a switch, after all.  -Court-

ETA6: Vogue here posting for Courtney since she’s stuck in traffic (be safe, Court.xx). Courtney did some digging and found the Cruise ship that Lindsay, Alek, Carlos, and Witney are on. You can see it at USA Today in all of it’s glory as it arrived to New York City today. Interesting too is that the show on the boat is called “We Will Rock You“. You can read the song list at this link for what they might have. Cool, huh? GOOD JOB, Court!

ETA7: Vogue again. Being Sharna, Nick, Val, and Tamar went to Las Vegas to see Cirque Du Solei Beatles “Love”(see Glamour link in ETA2 above), they most likely have a Beatles song. Here is a list of the soundtrack.

ETA8: Give it up to Courtney. She nailed it last night. Carlos confimed at his instagram that they are dancing to a song from “We Will Rock You”. Also, Mark and Alexa are on their way to meet Derek and Bindi in New York. More here.

ETA8: Per a stuffed mouse on Instagram, one of Carlos & Witney’s dances is the Argentine tango.  NOW BEFORE EVERYONE RUNS OFF MAKING ASSUMPTIONS – we have no way of telling if this is their individual dance or duet dance. So let’s try to avoid stating that as fact… -Court-

ETA9: Check out this tweet at Pure Derek Hough! I think it’s safe to say Derek, Bindi, Alexa, and Mark are dancing something to “Chicago”. Heidi was the first to guess this on Tuesday. Well done, Miss Heidi!~ Vogue

ETA10: Julia in comments mentioned how Derek, Bindi, Alexa, and Mark could be doing a Charlestion to “Hot Honey Rag” from the show “Chicago” since it fits a Charleston. To confuse things further, we got an “All That Jazz” teaser today from the DancingABC instagram. Well, check out this “Chicago” performance. It starts out with “All That Jazz” and then goes into “Hot Honey Rag”. Hmmmm. So, could this be the song(s) they are dancing to? ~ Vogue

ETA11: Alek and Lindsay have an Argentine Tango and their Duet team has a Paso Doble to “We Will Rock You”. Correction: Shorty The Mouse says they have a Salsa for their individual dance.

ETA12: Just Jared Jr. has just released the songs for Dancing With The Stars Week 9. You can read on them all below. ~ Vogue

ETA13: According to Derek’s blog, they are now dancing Jazz for their duet. Still an unlearned style, but fewer rules than Charleston. And since they are using the “All That Jazz/Hot Honey Rag” combo, it makes a hell of a lot more sense. Gee wiz, are we edging toward a tiny bit of fairness in this thing?? You all should read Derek’s blog – he tells it like it is, including very gently calling out his sister and the other judges. :-)

Duets:
Sharna & Nick are paired with Val & Tamar – Dancing a Rumba inspired from Cirque Du Solei Beatles “Love” (song: “Hey Jude”)
Mark & Alexa and Bindi & Derek – Dancing a JAZZ inspired from “Chicago” (Song Mix: “All That Jazz/Hot Honey Rag”)
Alek & Lindsay and Carlos & Witney – Dancing a Paso Doble inspired from “We Will Rock You” (Song: “We Will Rock You”)

Individual Dances:
Nick and Sharna – ?? (‘A Cool Cat In Town’ by Tape Five)
1-855-234-5610

Alexa and Mark – Contemporary (per Mark Interview) (‘Make it Rain’ by Ed Sheeran)
1-855-234-5602

Bindi and Derek – V. Waltz (Guess from periscope) (‘Roses and Violets’ by Alexander Jean)
1-855-234-5604

Alek and Lindsay – Salsa (‘Back It Up’ by Prince Royce f. Jennifer Lopez + Pitbull)
1-855-234-5601

Tamar and Val – ?? (‘Wicked Game’ by James Vincent McMorrow)
1-855-234-5612

Carlos and Witney – Argentine Tango (‘What Do You Mean’ by Justin Bieber)
1-855-234-5605

Dancing with the Stars Season 21, Week 8 – LIVE BLOG (Spoilers)

Immunity, Immunity….who gets the immunity?? Place your bets here!! Part of me says it’s tailor made for Nick…another part of me says Carlos, who may need it more. If Carlos gets it and Alexa goes home, that’s just going to piss me off. Then again, maybe Alexa…

The dance off is apparently Jive, Cha Cha and Samba, and only ONE of our couples have danced all three. Nick. Surely that’s not a coincidence. Here’s how the rest of them stack up:

Nick: Jive, Cha Cha, Samba
Carlos: Jive, Cha Cha
Alexa: Jive, Cha Cha
Bindi: Jive, Cha Cha
Andy: Jive, Cha Cha
Tamar: Cha Cha, Samba
Alek: Jive

The BEST thing that could happen (for all parties, I’m thinking) is that Nick doesn’t get immunity and picks Tamar. Tamar picks Samba – they’ve both done it, so it’s a true dance off. Every other couple would be fine with the remaining dances except Alek – he will likely get picked last and he needs to do the Jive. In this way, everyone gets a dance that they’ve done. However, I have a nasty feeling that Bindi is going to end up with a Samba, simply because whoever she picks might want to take her down. I think this is only likely if she picks either Nick and Tamar – the two seriously competitive (to the point that Derek was on the verge of saying something) people. I don’t even get THAT level of competitive from Carlos. Just other unpleasant things. :-)

Anyway, all of these burning questions will begin to be answered in T-minus 60 minutes….

Great pro dance!

Carlos salsa was a mess. They blew the lift, the missed a hand hold, the entry to the lift was messy. They are coming up with an excuse to give him a perfect score. And there’s the “don’t care cuz I liked it a lot” BS from Bruno.

Oh thank god for CAI being real.

Shirley says that was a 8 dance…I would agree.

Nick and Lauren just announced their baby news on All Access.

Awww….Alek did a fine job. The package was lovely. I did see the blown lift, but he handled it well. Think the 9 from CAI was a tad high.

Andy is making me SOB!! Jaysus. I have to add that there were a couple exits from moves where Allison kinda blew her footwork. Unfortunately it was really noticeable. I’m not sure it was Andy, like CAI was saying.

Eh, I think 7s were pretty harsh. He should be all 8’s, only one point below Alek.

Damn, Alexa had two very visible missed steps. She was doing so well!! So fierce and going strong, then boom. The song was too funky too.

ARGH!!! Underscored!! Dear lord, she’s was more than two points better than Alek!!

Here we go, as expected. Very sweet though.

Gooood contemporary routine. Hate that straight leg lift with the flexed feet though. It’s in every contemporary dance. Other than that, I loved it. And here comes immunity for Nick. Best dance ever??? Wild hyperbole from CAI as expected.

LOL…shot of Derek going “Freakin’ a – another big announcement right before we dance?? Will I be eliminated next week too??”

Oh sure, it’s super fair that Julianne looks super hard to find something wrong with Bindi. Pretty sure she didn’t work that hard on ANYONE else. That was a brilliant foxtrot. But explain to me how it’s fair to have Nick the ringer dancing contemporary against everyone else who isn’t a ringer doing ballroom?

Brilliant Foxtrot…from a non-dancer or dancer.

Nick has immunity – Tamar can’t get it, no matter her score.

Oh boy…it may appear that they’re letting Val point out that she got a bad edit, but it’s not a good look still. They end the package well though.

Will CAI call the lift in that dance? Probably not. The music was all wrong for that dance and as a result, the dance seemed…limp. Not sharp.

Oh praise be. CAI is now two for about 8 on the lifts.

LOL…and Derek defeats the Team dance with a simple request. I wonder if he saw Alek and decided to give him a better chance against someone else? He might not have seen him due to Tom trying to stop him from his “strategy”.

Oh, my lord. The dance off I was watching wasn’t close at all and Bindi was doing more jive. Hmmmm….they’re trying to save everyone at once. Derek is getting HOSED tonight between Julianne and Erin and Tom and everyone questioning him. Pissing me off.

This is BS. Carlos must be in trouble.

Very interesting. I voted for Alexa for sure, but America’s vote had the weight so Alexa gets the points. Interesting.

Allison doing all the dancing in the first few bars of the Samba. Alek doing an interesting lift.

Hold the phone…Immunity is for tonight?? Or tonight and next week??

Safe – Bindi and Derek!

Safe – Tamar and Val

Safe – Alek and Lindsay

Safe – Alexa and Mark

Eliminated….Andy and Allison. I’m on a roll.

Note that the married couple both got the extra two points tonight.
