Erin Andrews to Replace Brooke Burke?? DWTS Season 18

Oh lord, no. From “The Big Lead”. Thanks to @DWTSGossip for the heads up on this…I think.

Erin Andrews, the Fox Sports sideline reporter, is going to be the new co-host of ABC’s Dancing with the Stars, two sources tell The Big Lead. The network is expected to make the announcement Monday. An ABC spokesperson didn’t return a call Saturday evening seeking comment.

ABC announced Friday that Brooke Burke, who had been Tom Bergeron’s co-host on DWTS for the last seven seasons, would be leaving the show.

Andrews is not leaving Fox Sports, sources say. She will continue her sports duties – sideline reporting, hosting – for Fox, and co-host Dancing with the Stars on ABC during the week. Michael Strahan of Fox Sports has a similar deal – he co-hosts “Live with Kelly and Michael” during the week for ABC.

Sorry, I haven’t liked Andrews since she was all “mean girl” on DWTS. I don’t see it changing with her as host. But I do sense an opportunity for Courtney and I…. :-)  But still, I’m going to pray that “the Big Lead” is full of crap. Or a spoof site and I missed it. Or drinking too much. Or something. ;-)

ETA: People.com jumps on the Erin rumor bandwagon. As I told someone in the comments, it’s not truly “official” until ABC updates their website or announces it in some other way.

It’s time to welcome a new host to the ballroom.

Erin Andrews will replace Brooke Burke-Charvet as the host of Dancing with the Stars, a source confirms to PEOPLE.

The FOX Sports reporter, 35, will take over as Tom Bergeron’s co-host for season 18 of ABC’s dancing competition. Andrews is no stranger to the series, having competed on season 10 ofDWTS with pro Maksim Chmerkovskiy.

ETA2: This is sweet. KTLA did a tribute to Brooke on their show today…. Read more..

I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. And I'm cynical and jaded too. But I do love DWTS. :-)

DWTS Season 18: No More Brooke Burke??

Well…sorry Brooke. And if any of you pros are asking for too much money…well, I guess there is only so far they will go cuz they ain’t got none.  Seriously, though, this makes me very interested to see what other cuts they will make.  Although, in the new one night format there really wasn’t room for two hosts – and Tom rocks.  From Rumor Fix:

RumorFix has learned exclusively that Brooke Burke Charvet, who has co-hosted the show for seven years with Tom Bergeron, will not be returning this season.

On November 25, 2008, Brooke, herself, and partner  Derek Hough won the competition during Season Seven.

RumorFix has reached out to ABC and Brooke’s reps for comment.

ETA: It’s official. From E! News:

Burke-Charvet exclusively confirms to me that she will not be returning to the ABC show.

“I have enjoyed seven seasons co-hosting DWTS but understand the need for change considering the position of the show at this juncture,” she said in a statement. “I’ve always been one to embrace change and looking forward to pursuing opportunities I previously wasn’t able to entertain because of contractual obligations to the show. I’ve seen my fair share of shocking eliminations in the ballroom but this one takes the cake.”

DWTS Season 18: What is the Answer to Dan Cortese’s Hypothetical?

Please note that he put the word hypothetical in quotes. Please also note the hashtag. Questions like this, at this time of year, are very interesting indeed. I vote YES to DWTS. :-)  So, just how “hypothetical” do you think this is? Well, there’s no way he was asked to be bachelor – that doesn’t film until probably October or something and they usually pick a guy from the upcoming season of The Bachelorette. So, is that camouflage?  Does Dan always ask strange hypothetical questions? I have no idea – but I’m putting it out there in case he ends up on the show. :-) We had him as a rumor way back in Season 9, apparently.

Mark Ballas Furthers the Derek Hough Myths in a New Interview with Inside Pulse

Gee, Mark, just when I start to actually LIKE you again, you attempt to give the Derek-Myths some actual substance. Careful, your jealousy is showing.  Then, look at your own partners – you’ve not exactly paid your dues either. The average age of your partners is 26, while the average age of Derek’s partners is 33. Being eliminated first doesn’t give you cred or “dues” – it just means your partner wasn’t popular (and that she wasn’t paired with Derek, since he’s had some unknown/unpopular people as well).  You get it right later in the interview AFTER throwing Derek under the bus – it is luck of the draw. Too bad you had to try to discredit Derek’s accomplishments as “luck” before you got to that TRUTH.

DWTS Season 18: Things That Make You Go “Hmmmm….” James Maslow

As you may have seen, Vogue earlier reported that Peta was out on the town with James Maslow of Big Time Rush (and Nickelodeon). In what may be a case of EPIC denial, his fans are all claiming/hoping/praying that he was only out with her because DWTS starts next month and “maybe they’re partners.” I, of course, got a chuckle out of this because in the past I’ve seen way too many fangirls desperately hoping DWTS was the explanation and not just a good, old fashioned DATE. :-)

But since I laughed, an interesting thing happened. Julz Tocker followed a couple of the girls who were speculating that James was going to be on DWTS. For me, that elevated this to a “Hmmmm…” post. NOT saying he’s going to be on the show, just saying that I want to put it out there as a huge speculation or minor possibility. This isn’t even a rumor at this point. Honestly, I doubt it because Peta would be foolish to be seen out with her DWTS Partner at least a month before the announcement is made – not to mention that she’s probably not even sure yet she’s getting a partner this season.

But ya know? We’ve seen weirder things happen and we’ve seen things that never happened before happen in the recent past – like a person who is on a show on another network actually make it to DWTS (Amber Riley).

Not to mention that I’m curious to see if certain websites who like to get their news from us (and the Daily Mail) also pick up this story. ;-)

Dancing with the Stars Season 18 – PRO WATCH!!

It’s that time of year once again, boys and girls – time for Pro Watch. :-)  It will be very interesting to see what happens this year, after they let go of the band. That was a huge cost savings to them. The question is: are they looking to save even more money (say goodbye to Derek and possibly Cheryl) or have they saved so much that they can afford the popular, long term pros that have kept people coming back to this show season after season? I personally think that they will do what they can to hold on to Derek – he’s an Emmy winner and that’s very helpful to the show’s cache. I think they will also do their best to hold on to Cheryl, Karina and Mark. I’m GUESSING that Val and Tristan are still locked into contracts that are beneficial to ABC so they aren’t in question as long as they find a partner for them.  As always, I could be wrong. :-) Read more..

DWTS Season 18: Why Cut the Orchestra??? (Guest Blog)

Hi everyone!!  One of our long time regulars here at PureDWTS, Nathan, asked me last night if he could write a guest blog about the Orchestra. We said “Heck Yeah!!”  So, Nathan sent me this lovely piece dedicated to the Orchestra and why he thinks it’s a mistake to cut it.  I agree with him and will add….Derek and Maria’s Rumba to Madonna: it’s like will never happen again. :-(  Here’s Nathan:

Dancing with the Stars, as we all know is going onto its 18th season and 9th year on our television screens. That is a very big accomplishment for a series and I’m sure many of you who visit this site adore the daylights out of it. I, personally, remember when I first tuned in for the 3rd Season Premiere and how delighted I was. One of the aspects that impressed me the most was the live music that accompanied the dances. I recognized some of the songs and thought it was neat how they turned a ‘cheesy ‘80s song’ or my favorite pop song and tailored it to become a mambo or Paso Doble piece. To be quite honest, while I wasn’t impressed with the performances all the time, I have to give a special nod to Beverley Staughnton, who always made me happy with her vocals. The first time I was impressed by her was in week 4 during Willa Ford and Maksim Chmerkovskiy’s waltz to “You Light Up My Life”. I had heard that song plenty and even laughed a bit when it would come on the radio. But, Beverley’s performance of it had me seeing it in a new light and in my opinion, brought a new oomph to the song. That particular song has been performed plenty of times on the show, but seriously, listen to Beverley’s vulnerability in her (to my knowledge) first performance ever of that one. It really is a pleasure to the ears.  And as the weeks went on, several songs were performed really great.  In fact, I can honestly say that while I of course was eager to see how my Monique Coleman did every week, I was also looking forward to finding out what the music department would do next. It was part of what made the show for me. They were performed LIVE. That aspect is one of the reasons that I became such a passionate fan of the show. I couldn’t wait to hear what “Top 40 Hit” or song from the ‘70s or ‘80s they were going to dance a Foxtrot or Cha Cha to. To this day, I still say “Ooh, that’s a foxtrot!” or “That song is totally Samba!” when I hear a song on the radio. DWTS got my imagination rolling so to speak. Read more..

Dancing with the Stars Season 18 – Has the Orchestra Been Cut??

If this is true – and it seems legit – they certainly have been. This is a real shame as this is one of the things that made DWTS so unique in television today. Yes, we occasionally critiqued the singers for butchering a song – but the orchestra was killer. That said, I think I mused some time ago that this was one way to cut costs if that was required. The claim is that they are going in a way to attract a younger crowd. I tend to think that’s an excuse. You?

This is from Rick Baptist’s facebook account - he is apparently the lead trumpet for DWTS’ orchestra. Rick’s IMDB Page.

Cody Simpson Confirms DWTS Season 18??

Okay, we’ve reported on Cody Simpson a couple times as rumored for Season 18, here and here. Now, it seems, from his own mouth he’s confirming that he’s on – and there is much squealing on twitter from his fans. But does he really confirm?? I hear the word “probably” thrown in there.  What do you think??

It won’t let me Embed the Video so click this link. :-)

DWTS Season 18 Rumors!! Naya Rivera and Cassie

Hmmm….really?? I am skeptical.   From GWL magazine:

First up is the beautiful and newly-engaged Naya Rivera, who is rapper Big Sean’s fiancee’ and most known for her role as Santana Lopez on FOX musical drama, Glee. Although Naya has yet to confirm or deny the news, the source confirms she’s “very excited about this opportunity” as she prepares to release her debut solo album this Spring and currently planning her wedding.

We also hear that singer and model Cassie Ventura will be shaking her tail-feather on the show this season. An inside source tells Star Magazine that “Cassie loves to dance” and, although she has actually passed on a similar opportunity in the past, she is now ready to join the new season of the show.

Naya Rivera is Amber’s cast mate at Glee and would undoubtedly be good…but two Glee stars in a row? Would not surprise me, but I think it’s important to remind people that rumors that come out this early are usually just that…RUMORS. They usually turn out wrong. But with her coming out with a new album in the spring??

As for Cassie – never heard of her before, but maybe that’s a good reason for her to do the show.  Thanks to @DWTSGossip for the heads up.
