Buffalo Bill Meets Dancing with the Stars? Rumor Patrol

Technically, @DWTSGossip beat me to this one. :-) It would not surprise me if he ends up on the show this season – we had no NFL last season, did we?? Anyway, from Erin Kelly’s Twitter:

Jim Kelly on DWTS

Thoughts?? Seems like a nice guy, but I know nothing about him.

ETA: Erin says her dad declined because he needs to “continue to recover.” He recently finished his chemo treatments for cancer.

I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. Interesting Information about the Emmy Choreographer Nominations, Derek Hough and Mandy Moore

I thought this was a VERY interesting read, considering all the discussion about DWTS and the Emmy’s, who should have been nominated and if they were even submitted. There was some speculation in some quarters that Maks wasn’t submitted, or Sharna wasn’t submitted, and so on.  I think it’s safe to say, based on this, that ALL the DWTS choreographers had something submitted – Mandy Moore certainly did, and not just from SYTYCD.  This is from Variety – click the link to read the whole thing (emphasis mine).

As they prepared to celebrate, this year’s Emmy nominated choreographers remarked at the growth in interest to see dance on television, noting that over 70 submissions from reality and scripted series went in to bid for five nominations.

“It’s still weird,” said Mandy Moore of her own nominations. Moore has previously been nominated for her work on “So You Think You Can Dance,” and this year submitted for “Dancing With the Stars” as well. On stage for the reception Moore took the opportunity to thank those who give choreographers a creative space, while director and Academy governor Gail Mancuso hailed the choreographers as “lifesavers. You complete us,” she said.

“Dance is one of those things where people do it because they love it and they’re passionate about it,” said Hough. “For all the blood, sweat and tears that you put into it, the reward can be quite low compared to the amount of work that you put in — it’s such a passion driven art form and you can really see that and it’s incredible.”

Derek Hough: The Book, the DVD, the New TV Show

I know that Vogue and I did posts about the new TV Show with Mark, and Derek’s movie has been mentioned in the past, but I thought I’d give a little update. The DVD for “Make Your Move” is out and got a pretty great review which you can read part of on PureDerekHough.

Derek’s book (Taking the Lead: Lessons from a Life in Motion) comes out on Tuesday and he’s doing a bunch of book signings next week, in addition to The View and Watch What Happens Live.

Vogue and I are continually updating purederekhough.com, so head over there if you need or want more info. :-)

New TV Show for Derek Hough and Mark Ballas “Excellent Flip”

I’ve been saying for years that Derek has all kinds of irons in the fire on a variety of projects. It seems this is the year where a bunch of them come to light. Tour with Julianne. Check. Write a book. Check. Flip a house with Mark???  Ummm…Check??  Knew he was flipping a house, didn’t know it was going to be a TV Show. Only four episodes, but it should be interesting….from EON:

Instead of dancing a perfect paso doble, champion dancers Derek Hough and Mark Ballas from ABC-TV’s Dancing with the Stars will be kicking up dust on their latest project — a home renovation series on HGTV. Mark & Derek’s Excellent Flip, a four episode series, will follow along as the multi-talented entertainers who recently co-purchased a house in Southern California completely gut and rehab the property before flipping it for profit. Currently slated to premiere on HGTV in early 2015, the series will be produced by Scott Sternberg Productions.

“At the end of the day, this house is a significant investment in more ways than one, so we have to make this flip work. We’re putting our own blood, sweat and money on the line.”

Hough and Ballas are ready to tackle the challenge of a total home renovation and say the finished residence will be a stunning showcase for the property’s amazing mountain views. Each will play an active role on the work site — participating in everything from demolition to décor.

“Mark and I have worked together for years, but flipping a house is uncharted territory for us,” said Derek. “At the end of the day, this house is a significant investment in more ways than one, so we have to make this flip work. We’re putting our own blood, sweat and money on the line.”

Mark added, “When we bought this house Derek and I both had BIG ideas. Since I am not much of a DIY guy, I’m really grateful that HGTV has stepped in to lend some expertise. We have good creative vision within several areas of the rebuild and I am really looking forward to seeing some of these ideas come to fruition. It’s an important summer project for both of us!”

Simon Cowell as a Guest Judge on MY DWTS?? New Interview with New EP Rob Wade

Not on my DWTS, please. He’s one of those guys who thinks he knows everything about everything but really doesn’t know all that much about anything. But hey, if you’re hot, you’ll be a hit whether you can sing…I mean dance, or not. But really – how funny would it be if Simon got to be Guest judge and Maks didn’t?   From The TV Page:

Usually when they bring a new boss into a show it is so they can shake it up…
Yeah, but this time it is not.  The show did really great last season.  Quite early on in the season, Conrad who was the EP decided to leave.  He had done 18 seasons.  He decided he wanted a new challenge.  So in this case the show is doing great and we have to be really respectful of the format.

So how are you going to put your stamp on the show?
Look, viewers love the show.  I would be a fool to go in there and say, “I want to put my stamp on this.  I am going to go in there and shake things up.”  But there are a couple of significant changes that I am in the process of making that I think people will notice.

How many judges do you think will be on the panel?
For the moment, we are looking at three.  There is a possibility for a fourth.  We are talking about that possibility.  But we have to see.  I think you have just got to get the right mix of people.  I think Bruno (Tonioli) , Len (Goodman) and Carrie Ann (Inaba) are brilliant.  Certainly wouldn’t lose any of them…

Glamour Talks to New DWTS Executive Producer Rob Wade

I love Jessica, but she’s all about the ship at times. Dancing? Not so much. :-) Anyway, she interviews Rob and the other producers at TCA last night and then hit the jackpot when Tom Bergeron showed up to give his thoughts. We can always count on The Berge. :-) From Glamour.com:

Glamour: Where are you in terms of casting for the new season?
Joe Sungkur: At the moment, we’re in our early days, but there’s a lot of people we’re talking to…
Ashley Edens-Shaffer: But obviously we can’t say!
Glamour: When will the new cast be announced?
Ashley: That hasn’t been announced.
Glamour: I know, that’s why I’m asking. [Laughs
Ashley: We’re not allowed to say yet.
[Ed. Note: Because DWTS premieres a week earlier than usual this year, expect a cast announcement sometime in mid-late August.]

Glamour: Which of the cast members from last season most surprised you?

Joe: That’s an obvious one: Amy Purdy.
Ashley: Yes, Amy Purdy.
Rob: Amy Purdy.

Glamour: In the finale last season, Len Goodman hinted that he may not be returning, but then when I saw him backstage, he said, “Oh, no, I’ll be back!” So, will Len be back, as well as Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli?
Rob: Absolutely. We want all of the judges back.
Glamour: But it’s not a done deal at the moment?
Rob: We’re talking at the moment because we’re in the off-season, but I’m very confident that they’ll be back. As well as the host! Oh hi, Tom Bergeron!
Tom Bergeron: What a surprise!

Glamour: You’ve gone on the record saying that you thought Maks and Meryl had more of a brother/sister relationship. Fans do not like to hear that!
Tom: I’ve been ridiculed on social media for it! I’ve seen some great tweets saying, “That’s not like any family reunion I’ve been to!” But I never saw it as a romantic affection. I saw it as a very real affection, and I thought it brought out a side of Maks that I had seen backstage, but he had never allowed himself to be vulnerable on the air before. I thought that was charming, and it couldn’t have ended better. On a year when you watched a woman who had no legs absolutely mesmerize you, and Derek working with her—he’s like our Gene Kelly or Fred Astaire—but when you have that, and then Maks and Meryl… Wow.

Dancing with the Stars, Season 19 Premieres September 15, 2014

And that’s not all. According to an ABC Press release, Cheryl was partly right when she said that DWTS might go back to 2 nights.  Apparently there will be two special results shows (not counting the two night finale, I’m guessing).  I tend to assume that perhaps they don’t have other programming on those nights OR these two nights are a “test” to see if they like the numbers or not. :::shrug::: If it means we get more pro dances – preferably, choreographed by Derek and one of his SYTYCD buddies – I don’t care too much about the reasoning…

…unless they do something REALLY stupid, like a big, double elimination or some such thing. I guess we’ll have a better idea when we see how big the cast is. :-)

In addition, there will be two special nights of “Dancing with the Stars Results Show” this season, airing on Tuesday, September 16 and Tuesday, September 23, from 8:00-9:00 p.m., ET.

Monday, September 15

8:00-10:00 p.m.

Stay tuned for more later. Maybe. :-)

ETA: Regarding Spring and fall seasons, from Glamour, via DWTSGossip:

*Paul Lee said that Dancing With the Stars will continue with spring and fall installments. There had been rumors that it would be cut to once a year, but Lee said that “the plan is for two installments a year.” Lee also mentioned that he’s very happy with the pairing of Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews.

ETA2: And regarding Erin…from ABC News Radio:

Finally, Andrews wanted to be clear to DWTS fans that she still plans to co-host the show.

“I am going to have time for Dancing with the Stars. That was all part of our negotiations with them. In February when they came to us, I kind of hinted when I took the job, I was going to be on the Michael Strahan program, now more so than ever,” she said. “He works crazy hours on Sunday, I’ll be doing the same thing. I’m literally going to be going from the football field to the ballroom just like ‘Stra,’ he goes from the studio in New York to his show with Kelly Ripa.”

And look who’s playing reporter!!
