Dancing with the Stars Season 16, Week 3 – Who’s Dancing What…and When?

The dreaded Prom Night. Almost a guarantee of SUPER CHEESE and probable stupidity. Complete with Prom King and Queen – which translates to another win for Zendaya, since it’s apparently based on Twitter votes. I guess all we can hope for is that it lulls her fans into not voting. Because nothing pisses me off more than pimpage. Here’s what ABC.com has to say:

You can help select the King and Queen of the night by using Twitter. Here’s how:

Just Tweet hash tag “prom” followed by the first name of the male star or female star of your choice. Don’t forget to select your favorite King and Queen. Twitter selection for our King and Queen will be open until Tuesday morning at 11 AM ET/8 AM PT. The hashtag should read #prom and then the first name of the celebrity. For example #promandy #promwynonna

The male and female Stars who each receive the most number of tweets will be named Prom King and Queen for the night and each be awarded two extra points for the night.

DWTS TPTB: “Yeah…our main demo for DWTS is older women….and they suck, so lets try to get more young ‘uns to watch by having them vote on twitter for Prom Queen and King. Okay, so it didn’t really work so well last week as we still got hammered by The Voice, but hey! It could work…eventually. Yeah, we know it means that Zendaya will win everything, cuz old ladies don’t tweet, and that could skew the voting…but we don’t actually CARE about that. So what if we alienate the old ladies who watch our show…we’re just sure the key demo will come to us…eventually. And they’re way more important.”

:::rolls eyes::: I’m getting sick of this crap and it’s only week 3. Seriously – two extra points? What stupid gimmick are they going to come up with next week?? Are they really this desperate??

Clearly, the answer is yes.

ETA: What kind of prom has a couple dancing to “Sex Machine”??  I’m also GUESSING that Ingo is dancing to Queen, since that sounds like a Paso song to me. Anyway, I’ve put the dances in the order that I think they’ll be dance

ETA2: Nailed it on Lisa and gleb :-)

ETA3: Two for two!!:-)

ETA4: Off by one spot for DL and Cheryl. All good rolls come to an end. :-)

ETA5: Well, I was doing so well with my predictions. Off on Victor by 2 sports. Oh well. :-)

ETA6: Ugh. Waste of a perfectly good “pimp” spot…although I wager it’s as close to the original meaning as it’s ever going to get. :-) Maybe the “family” needs some help, eh?

ETA7: Well, I get home late from work and see there is some confusion as to who is going last. Since Zendaya said “last” and Peta said 11th, I’m betting they shuffled the order based on the dress rehearsal and Zendaya’s order is current. Who knows?? Kellie is going at the top of the hour, which is good. Zendaya going last makes more sense than Sean.

Here are the dancers and their dances.

Aly and Mark – V. Waltz

This is also from ABC.com:

Here are some the songs you’ll hear Monday night – were any of them played at your prom?

“Do You Think I’m Sexy” – by Rod Stewart
“Footloose” by Kenny Loggins
“Another One Bites the Dust” by Queen
“Y.M.C.A” by the Village People

Am I correct in thinking that, with the only Jive on the roster, Kellie and Derek have Footloose?? Derek should be a little familiar with that particular song. :-)

Derek Hough Blogs After Week 2 of DWTS Season 16

This blog is jam packed with information. Love it!  He talks about Jazz versus the Jive, Dorothy, injuries and why he’s never been to prom.  A few excerpts from TV Guide:

We have the jive next. It’s a hard dance. It’s a lot different from the jazz, which definitely played to Kellie’s strengths. The jive is so fast and the technique in it is so difficult. There are a lot of different elements. This is the first week where the pressure’s really on since we only have five days to do a routine going forward. It’s tough because the jive is so fast, so that means more steps. There’s more choreography within that minute and 15 seconds. You could do six steps in one second in the jive, whereas in the rumba, you probably do, like, two steps in five seconds.

The way I choreograph is I choreograph from the spot. I don’t really come in with a routine ready to go and teach it to my partners. I like to create with my partner. I like to play with ideas. I could have an idea that I think it’s great, but I could try it with them and they might not feel great doing it, so I like to experiment with my partner to try to maximize getting the best out of them.

It’s also Prom Week. I never went to prom and Kellie never went to prom either, so I’m trying to figure out a way to ask her to prom. I’m nervous! I didn’t go to prom because I grew up in England and they don’t really have proms there. I was also traveling and competing, so I didn’t have a normal social life. I didn’t go to school parties and dances. I never felt like I missed out on that type of stuff. Now I get my first prom with Kellie!

We were all sad to see Dorothy withdraw. We had no idea she was going to. We learned with the audience. We were completely in the dark about it. I think it was a very mature and smart thing to do on her part. It’s important to look after your health. That’s it. Nothing is worth sacrificing your health. I love what the Dalai Lama said — it doesn’t really go into her situation — but he said, “Mankind surprised me about humanity. Because we sacrifice our health for money and we sacrifice our money to gain back our health.” You always have to put your wellbeing first. But it was obviously very sad that she pulled out. You never want anyone to pull out. I think only, like, four people have pulled out during the show from injury. We have a lot of injuries on the show of varying degrees and I think we all are used to seeing people push through on the show. Dorothy’s an athlete and I think if she could, she would’ve pushed through, but it was too serious.

Jennifer Grey and I were very close to withdrawing many, many times. I had a doctor literally in a rehearsal saying to me, “You can do that move. You can’t do that move. If you do that move and you drop her, she can be paralyzed.” I was like, “OK…” No pressure, right? Actually on the very last show, she blew a disc in her lower back and she had surgery the next day after we won. We won a trophy and she’s in the hospital getting surgery less than a day later. It was crazy, but we were so close to pulling out that season.

DWTS Season 16, Week 2 – Who Got the Boot? (SPOILERS)

Oh man, that was SO sad. First time I cried at an elimination. Dang.

For those of you who haven’t seen the show but are here getting spoiled, Dorothy removed herself at the last minute on the advice of doctors. She could do permanent damage to herself if she kept on.

The final two came down to Lisa and Victor – we did NOT find out who the eliminee was going to be. Interesting that they kept Andy down there till the last minute – me thinks they want to keep him around. Also interesting were the ones called safe first – Ingo, Sean and Wynonna.

How did we do??

Heidi: Said D.L. was going home with Lisa as an alternate and Victor as a second alternate.

Courtney: She had D.L. with Victor second to last and Lisa third to last.

Vogue-y: Also had D.L. with Wynonna next and Dorothy  third.

Winner: No idea. Either me or Courtney, although Vogue was in there with Dorothy.

DWTS Season 16, Week 2 – Dancing by the Numbers

Well, I have to say – I could rant on and on about the break in hold and the lift that Mark did, but why bother? They also missed a couple steps in that part that was in the front left corner by the judges – well, Aly did and it was kinda hidden behind Mark.  This is one of the crappy things about this show – it ain’t fair. Don’t get me wrong – if Mark wants to break the rules in the name of good choreo I say go for it, dude, show us what ya got (just don’t bitch if they ever do call you on it). I didn’t mind and the dance was pretty good, although sans “wow” factor. But dang, the judges don’t call it and THEN have the nerve to caution Gleb???  Tony and Wynonna ride in on scooters (I want one) and Len doesn’t say a word??  What the hell… anyway, you get my drift.  It’s enough to make me wonder if she isn’t getting the votes. I’m wanting to see a lot more out of the box choreography, with cool staging – but is it too much to ask that the judges ATTEMPT to be even handed??

I sure do wish that I didn’t see Jacoby as a sure thing at this point. Don’t get me wrong – I find him very amusing. Loved the whole bit with the good posture for Len followed by slouching. But he can’t touch Zendaya or Kellie…or even Aly…in terms of dancing. Hell, I like ANDY better than him. I think Andy knocked it out of the park last night. Ah well, what ya gonna do?? Maybe voters will surprise me and give it to Zendaya or Kellie – either one is more deserving. And Aly certainly has room to grow. Then again, so does Jacoby and he is kinda funny. :-)  We have a ways to go before we worry about the finale, in any case.

But enough about that, how do the scores look?? Read more..

Louis Van Amstel Discusses the Couples After DWTS Season 16, Week 2 Performances

Bear with me – Vogue is the one who can get creative with both the titles and the text, not me, and she’s busy this morning. :-)  Louis has a lot to say about the couples after seeing them dance – pretty much the same as what we’ve been saying: Kellie and Zendaya = Awesome and DL = in trouble.  First, from GMA, a couple excerpts – click the link to read his whole blog:

Wynonna Judd and Tony Dovolani’s Quickstep:   Looking at their package, it looks like Wynona is going to have a great journey on ‘DWTS’ this season. Her honesty and sincerity is going to help her grow. I so appreciate the effort Wynonna puts into her dancing, but I would like to see her show her joy more, like she said she had when doing her Cha Cha. I also would have liked to see a dress like a police costume rather than pants and sneaker-like shoes. The dancing was good and proper when in hold. Don’t play it safe, though. You have nothing to lose, only to gain an amazing experience. I hope Wynonna stays around for a long time because she’s so inspirational to many. Tony, I actually like that moustache on you. There was nice feedback from the judges. I totally agree with every word from Carrie Ann and agree just slightly with Len about the close hold being far apart at times. Scores are okay.

Zendaya and Valentin Chmerkovskiy’s Jive:  She’s so cute but she can’t stand on high heels? This is going to be interesting having the fastest Latin dance. OK, high heels a problem? Not at all. Fantastic jive, great content, awesomely (yes, I made up a new word) entertaining. Even though Zendaya’s limbs are so long and sometimes a little sloppy, she is so fast and high energy. I’d also put her and Val into the top three! Good for you girl. Age is just a number, if you’re younger or older. Amazing and well-deserved scores! High scores don’t save, so VOTE VOTE VOTE.

D.L. Hughley and Cheryl Burke’s Quickstep:  “DWTS” is “Hunger Games” in tights? Brilliant! Stop complaining D.L.  You’re losing time to rehearse and don’t forget that 50 percent of the score is public vote!  I hope his dance is going to knock the roof of the place. That was actually not a bad quickstep at all and an OK hold.  He remembered his steps. D.L.’s bottom was back the whole time, but it kind of looked cute. What’s with Carrie Ann tonight?  I love her with all her comments. You can be honest and say if something isn’t good, but still be nice. D.L.’s comments with Brooke put him back on the map. Hopefully, D.L.’s video package won’t hurt them too much. Scores are OK, maybe all sixes.

Kellie Pickler and Derek Hough’s Jazz:  How gorgeous is Kellie Pickler?  They’re a hot couple. I had no idea Kellie could dance like that. Look at her feet again when she does her leg extension! Wow. She was fantastic, amazing and awesome. What else can I say? She’s the one to beat by miles. Knowing Kellie as a singer, what would her concert look like if Derek would choreograph a full-on production number for her?  Wow!  She’d give Lady Gaga and Madonna a run for their money! Her scores are low. At least three nines, if not a 10. I know it’s only week two, but this was the best performance.

At Hollywood.com, Louis gives his opinion on the best and worst of DWTS Week 1 (again, click the link to read the whole thing):

This season, DWTS has introduced two new styles of dance to the competition: jazz and contemporary. Because contemporary dance, performed barefoot, is typically more emotional than technical , its inclusion is causing some controversy in the competition. “The new style, contemporary, is definitely causing tension, and I think that’s the exact reason for the producers to do it,” van Amstel tells Hollywood.com. “I do think from a pure dancing point of view, it is comparing apples to oranges between a ballroom and a latin dance, but at least they’re both within ballroom dancing. And now you’re adding contemporary.”

The dance van Amstel is referring to was 16-year-old Disney Channel star Zendaya Coleman and her partner, Val Chmerkovskiy. “Because it was so hard to judge contemporary, I think that Val and his partner did great. But then again, it’s a young girl and it looks like she has dance experience,” van Amstel says. “But I think from what we’ve seen, Kellie Pickler [and partner Derek Hough] stole the night. I mean, the girl looked stunning. She literally could have walked out onto a competitive ballroom dance floor. She kicked ass.”

As for Olympic gold medalist Aly Raisman, van Amstel thinks she will only get better from here. “I really hope that she’s going to use this to add to her own training, to become more artistic and expressive within movement rather than just execution of tricks,” van Amstel says. “I think her journey is going to be very interesting to see the progress that she’s going to make. Apparently she was really nervous, but I would definitely not count her out. That girl just needs to get over her nerves.”

Dancing with the Stars Season 16, Week 2 – Who’s Dancing What…and When?

Week 2…the week of Jive?/Jazz?/Jive?/WTF?? and the Quickstep. :-) Was I the only one that heard both Jive and Jazz with regard to a few couples?? Is it that the media expects to hear Jive so that’s what they say, or do the stars expect to hear Jive so they say Jive or is there monkey business?? It didn’t help that Sharna said “the jazz” which made people hear Jive since one doesn’t typically put “the” in front of “jazz” without also having “dance” after it. I guess we’ll never know for sure.

ETA: Almost forgot – this was on the DWTS Official site:

There different dances will be tackled by the couples on Monday night, the Jive, the Quickstep and for the first time in the Dancing competiton, Jazz.

Judges will be looking for the following elements in the “Jazz” dances: jazz hands, kicks, leaps, rolled shoulers, quick turns and sideways shuffling.  It’s destined to be a night of high energy the ballroom with all three dances!

Please note – the typo is theirs. They also call Victor “Victory”. LOL. Ahem. And some had the nerve to call US unprofessional!! HA! But note that they include a description of what they’ll be looking for with Jazz – I’d think they were listening to me, if not for the fact that they neglect to do that for the other two dances. :-) And why is that??

Here are the dancers and their dances. note, this is currently in last weeks dance order.

ETA: I’ve been right on the money with the last few guesses. :-) Zendaya keeps her “top of the hour” slot.

ETA 2: Gotta say – kinda surprised by Lisa’s slot in the show…

Once again, we have an odd number of Jives relative to Jazz. Why not four of each style? Of course, if you had had four of each of Foxtrot, Cha Cha and contemporary that would have still made divvying up the dances this week difficult. How do you decide which Cha Cha-er gets Quickstep and which gets Jazz?? And what are they trying to accomplish with their selections?? Look at this table of the dances assigned thus far:

Week 1 and 2 Dances

So, what do you think?? How are they splitting it up? Are they once again making it so that each dance style has one person they consider cannon fodder? And who is that person? I think that Jacoby is a clear winner with Jazz over Quickstep – I’m not so sure the same can be said for Sean, but he’s lucky to get it out of the way now, when there are a lot of dancers likely to leave before him.  I think Ingo wins with QS over Jive because he’s so tall. I think Lisa and Dorothy lose with Jive – but again, better to get it out of the way now, for Dorothy at least. Kellie and Zendaya I think would have been fine and dandy either way.

LOL of the day today:  Oksana tweeted this and I about swallowed my tongue. :-D

DWTS Season 16 – Derek Hough talks about Jazz, Cha Cha and His Favorite from Monday Night

Derek’s blog this week is just jam packed with interesting things. I’ve put an excerpt below – hit up TV Guide to read the whole thing:

I’m actually in Michigan right now following Kellie around wherever she goes. I’m a little under the weather with the flu, but I think I’ll be all good for Monday. I’m just feeling a little stuffed up and sore right now, but nothing some drugs won’t fix, right?

We actually have jazz this week (typo last week — sorry!) and it’s going to be a fun one. I stepped up the choreography a little bit to show off Kellie’s abilities more. I know some of you don’t like having these new styles on the show, but I like them. I never want to repeat myself and I like having the challenge of another dance style, especially something like jazz that allows for some more flexibility for me as a choreographer. It’s a great dance for Kellie. I think she’s really going to wow everyone with what she does. I swear she was a dancer in a past life because she has the perfect body, ability and IQ for it. But it’s cool that she is a singer and has never danced before because I think that’s more impressive to more people. Having been partnered with Nicole and Shawn, they certainly had training in the sense of learning choreography, not ballroom dancing obviously, but Kellie’s never had this type of training before. I still tell her that she needs to start a second career as a dancer after this.

Rehearsals are going well and everything’s looking pretty good so far. I would say the only potential downfall of Kellie’s is that she has the attention of span of a goldfish. Seriously! I say two words and her head is staring out the window, like, “Oooh! Shiny car!” I keep teasing her about that, but we’re having a great time.

I thought everyone did well on Monday. Zendaya was amazing. She’s definitely the one to beat right now. My favorite was Andy Dick. Hearing him being so candid about his past and watching him go out there and dance and do a great job was so moving. I love stories and moments like that. That’s my favorite thing about this show: Seeing a group of new people come in every year — wide-eyed and completely unaware about what they’re about to embark on — push themselves and learn something and go out there and dance. I do think that’s something that was missing from All-Stars. I loved All-Stars and seeing everyone come back and working with Shawn. We had so much fun and did some of my favorite routines, but it’s a different vibe with new people.

DWTS Season 16 – Andy Dick’s TV Reunion

According to OTRC, DWTS is giving Andy Dick a TV reunion with the cast of his old show, Less Than Perfect:

Sara Rue, Zachary Levi and other actors who starred on the comedy series “Less Than Perfect” are set to reunite on the ABC ballroom dancing show on Monday, March 25, to support fellow sitcom alum and contestant Andy Dick, OTRC.com has learned exclusively.

This will marking the first full cast reunion since the sitcom ended its four-season run in 2006. Dick played Owen Kronsky, Claude’s friend and co-worker. Check out a full list of “Less Than Perfect” alumni who will attend the reunion:

Sara Rue — she played Claude, who starts out working as an assistant in a TV newsroom, on “Less Than Perfect.” She currently plays Kim on the new Reba McEntire sitcom “Malibu Country,” which also airs on ABC.

Sherri Shepherd was also on that show, so you can expect to see her back in the ballroom as well, along with Eric Roberts.

Vogue ADDING: In other things on Andy. Don’t miss Sharna on Afterbuzz this week. They discuss Andy, the judges, the other contestants and lots more. Thanks to Butterflywhirl for the heads up!
