Such a nice guy!! Andy talks to Kit and Billy on Access Hollywood Life. He has a deluxe album coming out around the end of DWTS. He’s so funny – he was a valet little more than a year ago?? Holy cow – how things work out.
We’ve been talking about the tour for a while in the comments and it was made official a day or so ago, but I never got around to posting it – I keep forgetting that I’m Vogue for a week.

You can get tickets at DWTSTour.com, if you are so inclined – I might go if I can get good last minute seats. And if Emma is going to be there. Sasha isn’t, apparently, so I would need Emma. BTW, who are these peeps – wanna guess?? No, I don’t know – I didn’t look that close. You tell me. 😀 I did hear Sharna say that she was going on tour, so that should be one, besides Val.
Here’s an interview with Carlos and Witney….many thanks to IdolXfactor1 for sending this to me.
This week we have a pretty clear division between two groups of dancers and I’m not really sure why. It’s weird. I re-watch the dances and I agree that those three (Alexa, Alek and Hayes) had the weakest dances of the night, but I’m not convinced that the difference between some at the top and those at the bottom is that broad. I don’t think any of the dances were “perfect” although I think Nick and Bindi were perfect *all things considered*. Tamar, on re-watching, was not a perfect 40 either. Meanwhile, I think that Alexa and Alek should be tied with Hayes. Of course, not giving Tamar a 40 and NOT giving Alexa and Alek 7s would have put them in much better striking distance at Tamar. Makes you wonder.
Then again – why give Andy a 40? He definitely deserved a high score…but that high? I loved that routine, for sure…but after giving him such a hard time in previous weeks, this just seems like a turnaround. I dunno, I’m kinda confused. Anyway, here’s the leaderboard and the percentages.
I’m not a Nick fan by any stretch, but I don’t get why Andy gets a 10 from CAI and Nick doesn’t – that’s weird, unless they’re setting up a redemption arch for Nick to help him to the MBT. But one point doesn’t really make a redemption arch, does it. Read more..
Carrie Ann talks about why she handed out the scores she did – does she read this site? I don’t agree with a lot of her rationale….or, I should say, I agree with a lot of her ratonale, just not the score that came from her rationale, if that makes sense. I’ve put an excerpt from Parade, below, but be sure to click the link to read the whole thing.
Someone else who struggles with the same problem of not always being aware of her complete movements is Alexa Penavega. Her routine last night was to “I’m a Slave for You” by Brittney Spears, and she and Mark Ballas just didn’t quite deliver the quality of movement needed to pull off that number. It’s a hard pill to swallow after receiving the first perfect score of the season last week, and then being in jeopardy last night. My heart goes out to her. But she really does have the ability to be incredible. I think what is lacking is confidence. To know you own the space on the dance floor is a really big part of winning this competition. When you have confidence, your body dances differently. It’s like when someone walks into a room with confidence and they seem larger than life. When someone just as beautiful walks into the same room without confidence, they don’t seem to fill the room. How you feel about yourself while doing the routine is a big factor. I know these dances can be challenging and some styles are better suited to various individuals. But after you’ve rehearsed it, you have to get out there and know that no one else will ever do that routine again. It’s uniquely your performance so do it with all your confidence, and you will for sure excite us all.
When I think of strong and steady, I think of Alek Skarlatos. He is really a strong and steady performer. I don’t sense a lot of doubt in himself when he dances. His only weakness is that he hasn’t had a lot of experience performing. This is what makes everyone love him so much. Paula Deen said last night that she was a fish out of water. But I think actually it is Alek that is the fish out of water. With no performance background, he really is impressive. But this is what he needs to work on to be a contender. And don’t get me wrong. I do think he has the potential. I suggested he work with Artem Chigvintsev to learn a bit more of the masculine performance skills and a bit more flair. Lindsay has already done such an incredible job with his technique that he is solid and steady and a good partner! But his recreation of Elvis’s performance last night made it evident that as we head down the final stretch, he is going to need to up his game to stay in the ballroom.
Here are this week’s Afterbuzz Interviews. You all will have to put up with me and Court doing media for a week and we’re not Vogue, so bear with us.
He talks to Olivia too!
Team Dances and Halloween….this seems verrrry familiar. Keep an eye out for Courtney announcing the teams later tonight. I expect she’ll stick a link in here when/if she finds out. I’m getting sicker by the minute so I’m going to bed shortly.
Very happy with Bindi’s dance – will be interesting to see if she can pull it off. Could be a challenge.
ETA: Teams for team dances are here. Can I sleep now? -Court-
ETA2: Got the other song for the team dance, and one of the team names. A few other bits of intel over on the team dance post. Also hearing that there may be more than one Argentine tango this week…-Court-
ETA3: Scroll down for Team names and photos – guess who’s already in charge. Also, according to their Afterbuzz interview, Val and Tamar have foxtrot but that may change, which could well be code for “They pick on Tamar when in hold so Imma change our dance.” ~Heidi
ETA4: Linday and Alek say they are dancing their V.Waltz to Haunted by Beyonce which is apparently a new song (from the 50 Shades soundtrack – Court). Oh, and Emma may not be available, although Alek has a crush on her. Hmmm… Thanks to Jen for the heads up.
ETA5: Got Tamar & Val’s song – guess they are going for foxtrot after all. Carlos also shared on Instagram that he & Witney have paso doble. -Court-
ETA6: According to Mark’s instagram, they are doing a Paso to something from Edward Scissorhands. Scroll to the bottom for photo from Mark. And then, George Pennachio stars spilling songs and dances. There’s likely a press release somewhere but I’m not Vogue.
ETA7: Very interesting that Carlos’ song is missing from Broadway World’s post…hmmm….but anyway, our source has the song below for him.
ETA8: Nick and Sharna are dancing first, according to George Pennachio and Bindi is sometime in the second hour. I’m sure there’s more, but I’m playing catch up here. Hayes and Emma are in the first hour. Interesting to see Carlos is last.
Nick and Sharna – Argentine Tango (Song: “Bring Me to Life” by Evanescence)
Hayes and Emma – Waltz (Song: “Once Upon a Dream” by Lana Del Rey)

Halloween week is always on of my favorites 😈 Edward & Kim will be Paso ready for you Monday night. #dwts #teambaega A photo posted by markballas (@markballas) on
Week 6 already!! Wow…time flies.
Well, I think it’s been a good season so far – light on the manipulation and shenanigans (until last week). I expect that may all change tonight. Either way, it will be interesting to see how it plays out. Maybe I’ll be pleasantly surprised.
T-minus 15 minutes…
LOL – Robert (Bindi’s bro) is on All Access – so cute.
So, great opening number…off the top of my head I saw Singing in the Rain (Derek), Flash Dance (Karina), ONE….what else….
CAI just said they would be looking for the style they were assigned. I smell BS already.
Thought Hayes and Emma did really well – a tiny bit hosed by the judges, I think I would have gone a bit higher. Read more..
I saw some concern this week on the blog about Alek and I want to reiterate right away – I’m not worried about Alek. At all. If he were to go home this week it would be the most shocked I’ve ever been in the history of doing the numbers for this show. Don’t know if that helps anyone or not, but there you have it. He may not be the best dancer, but he has a ton of stuff going for him. These things should be obvious, but let me spell it out for you:
- He’s a hero in the military in the mold of JR and Noah – who finished 1st and 3rd, respectively.
- He’s had a run of crap luck (UCC and Spencer) and people love to support someone like that, who has held up well in spite of said crap.
- The SHOWMANCE. Come on. You watched Meryl and Maks, right? You don’t think it was just dancing that got them the title do you? It was the fauxmance. Alek has it even better because this showmance is a realmance. They ain’t playing, like Meryl and Maks clearly were.
I could probably think of more stuff, but that more than sums it up, doesn’t it? Read more..
So we’ve moved onto “Famous Dances” week, where the couples are supposedly going to be recreating “famous” dances from movies, musicals, music videos, etc. I’m predicting we see some repeats of songs we’ve already heard before on the show, and apparently Court is working on a post predicting some of them.
ETA: Judging from DancingABC’s latest Instagram post it looks like they’re STRONGLY hinting that Bindi got Dirty Dancing as her iconic dance. In the past, it’s been used as a mambo (and it’s a mambo in the movie) – but then again, maybe it will get retooled as a jazz or something. So mambo is just a guess on my part… -Court-
ETA2: Ugh. Judging from Carlos’ latest Instagram video it looks like he has *wretch* Magic Mike as his iconic dance. Why do I feel like I would think this was lot less icky if it was someone other than Carlos doing it? Just one problem: as I recall, that song was Channing Tatum dancing solo for a room full of women, and ended up stripping down to a thong. And kneepads. Where exactly does Witney fit into this? -Court-
ETA3: And then DancingABC continues with the painfully unsubtle, punny clues and pretty much confirms that Alek has Jailhouse Rock. Ok, I can be down with that – especially if they darken his hair up. -Court-
ETA4: According to
Glamour, Nick has “You Should Be Dancing”, which is one of the songs I predicted might get reused in my prediction post. So that’s (3) songs so far that have gotten repeated, and two of them (possibly 3) that could be wonky dance styles. I am beginning to think we might be seeing some disco, hip-hop, and mambo this week…-Court-
ETA5: It would just about figure that the minute I get done updating, they release all the songs…anywho, a few thoughts: I’m thinking the bulk of these HAVE to be weird dance styles, i.e. hip-hop, jazz, disco, etc., and I’m hoping they give the couples a bit of a free pass…cause if everyone else has the freedom of doing jazz/hip-hop and couples like Alek & Lindsay and Hayes & Emma are stuck doing ballroom styles, I’m calling foul. -Court-
ETA6: According to Derek’s blog, Bindi has a rumba. Hate to say this, but I’m getting I’m getting the same feeling I was for his “If I Could Turn Back Time” rumba with Amber – this song is wayyy too fast and energetic to be an effective rumba. -Court-
ETA7: So, our source has some of the dances and Derek/Bindi weren’t the only ones to get hosed. Get this – “Pony” is a rumba. WTF?? We confirmed Alexa’s Cha Cha and Alek’s Jive – he should be lucky they didn’t decide that was a rumba as well. Maybe only because he’s already done rumba. Ha. Someone has a Samba and all the rest are apparently Jazz. Bah humbug. Jazz on DWTS is code for “we’re going to let them do whatever they want and not call it contemporary.” If I left the question mark after the dance style, that means I guessed. ~Heidi
ETA8: Back right away to update a bit more since Court tells me the only one who has already done Jazz is Nick, so he must be the samba. ~Heidi
ETA9: Okay, so apparently Carlos shirt comes off nearly immediately and his dance is exactly what you’d expect – bump and grind. ~Heidi
ETA10: Our source says that Derek and Bindi’s “Rumba” is a rumba in name only and it uses a LOT of the choreo from the movie. It’s thought that it will be a crowd pleaser at any rate, as it is a true homage. A montage of memorable moments from the movie. During rehearsal it was mentioned by Derek that it’s unusual that he can use so much of the choreo, that they had gotten the rights to use it. In the course of this conversation he confirmed that he was almost in the Dirty Dancing remake. This is what I’ve been telling people for YEARS. I knew from watching video of Derek’s interviews around the time that movie was shelved – it was obvious. Now it’s confirmed. It’s pretty obvious to me that Kenny Ortega loves Derek and that’s why they can use so much of the choreo. They will probably get hosed (my opinion only), but our source thinks the crowd will love it. Expect me to pitch a fit if and when they get hosed, since according to Derek’s blog they were directed to stick close to the original choreography. Getting to be a typical thing with this show – tell Derek what to do and then penalize him for it.
ETA11: Vogue here. According to Emma’s twitter, she and Hayes are dancing 1st tonight. Also, according to DancingABC (instagram below), there is an opening number tonight! Let’s hope it’s longer than 30 seconds.
ETA12: Full running order updated. -Court-
