Heather Morris Blogs DWTS Season 24 Week 1…and What’s Coming in Week 2

Heather’s blog for week 1/week 2 is out and I have to say I like her attitude, despite thinking they shouldn’t have cast her. I think she really doesn’t need to be nervous and I’m not sure how much of that is real and how much is a reaction to the criticism people have had about her participation. She has to know that people are going to be more critical. The headline talks about a “secret weapon” and honestly I can’t figure out what that is. Check out People – maybe you can figure it out.

After the high of Monday’s show, Maks and I took Tuesday off so he could choreograph this week’s dance — and also, so I could recuperate after our 14-hour show day. (I seriously felt like I got hit by a bus.)

Our dance this week is the jive and, again, I’m going to reveal to you right now: I’m very nervous about it.

I’ve only ever had one encounter with the jive before this and I felt that was an utter fail. I really have no desire to repeat it. But as the days went on and I got to learn the steps, I also learned to fall in love with the dance — big surprise.

The jive is way more my method of a dancing. Unlike the salsa or most ballroom styles, I’m not imprisoned into a frame with my partner — which is something I’ve never really been good at. In addition, this week I get to do a little snippet of the type of dancing I do best in this week’s number. THANK YOU, MAKS!

DWTS Season 24, Week One – Dancing by the Numbers!

Well, here I am again. Can’t say I’m overly excited about the show this season – silly fangirls, judges acting stupid, the producers using Julianne as a Heather apologist…all very annoying.

But there were a few actual bright spots. I loved David and Rashad, I thought Nick was funny and I liked that he wasn’t afraid to call a ringer BS.  Love Simone, but I’m hoping that Sasha doesn’t play it too safe in the coming weeks. I’ve seen a lot of criticism of their Tango, but I have to say…I think it was the music. That music was crap. Just ONCE this season I would love to see an actual TANGO.  Think Alexa and Derek – that kicked ASS. Hell, just about any Tango he’s ever done. He generally goes more traditional in the tango steps and music (when he has a choice) and I think the white flowery dress and the light, not-very-tango-y music of Simone and Sasha just ruins it for me. You can see the difference if you watch many of Derek’s – dark and intense. Read more..

Normani Kordei Blogs DWTS Week 1 for Hollywood Life

Normani writes about week 1, her nerves and how they are in Okinawa, Japan this week for tour. I do like how she owns her dance experience and all the expectations and responsibility that comes with it. I do wish she would realize that she only did half a quickstep and perhaps tell her partner to get it together – but we can’t have everything. Visit Hollywood Life to read the rest of her blog.

Going into this first week I was definitely, and obviously, very nervous. There is a lot of expectation for me as a former dancer, and someone with dance experience, but with more expectation comes more responsibility. That really got me through this week. I always try to take everything Val [Chmerkovskiy] says into consideration. He is always giving me the best advice and critiques, and I try to listen to him a lot and take what he says and show it in our routine. He and I are out on the floor together, and I know that we are in this competition as a team, so listening to him this week has been so important for me.

The quick step was our first dance but also one of the hardest dances there is, so I am blessed that I got through it with Val’s guidance. It took me a bit to recognize that he is with me every step of the way; when we go out on floor we are out there together. So we took on the quick step together and I think we crushed it. I blacked out in the best way possible once I was out on the floor. I didn’t want the audience, or the cameras, or the judges to distract me from what I knew we could do. I just focused in on the glitter, and the lights, and the music and gave it my all.

Dancing with the Stars Season 24, Week TWO – Who’s Dancing What…and When?

We know of one dance so far. Sharna and Bonner have a romantic dance for Week 2 and it’s the Viennese waltz. Stay tuned for more updates.

ETA: According to Peta’s Instagram, she and Nick have a Foxtrot.

ETA2: According to Chris’ instagram, he and Witney are doing Jive. Maks also implied on instagram that he and Heather are doing jive. Seems like a fair fight. :::rolls eyes:::

ETA3: According to Normani’s blog, she and Val have a Cha Cha. ~Vogue

ETA4: According to Lindsay’s blog, she and David have a Cha Cha. Perfect. Be sure to read her blog for more.~Vogue

ETA5: DWTSGossip and one of her followers think they heard Artem say they were dancing first. Also, Heather will be dancing with Alan…as DWTSGossip pointed out, first time in the history of DWTS that two SYTYCD competitors are dancing together, competing against everyone else. 🙂

DWTS Season 24, WEEK ONE – LIVE BLOG (Spoilers)

Here we go again. Only this time subjected to new levels of BS I’m sure.  With contributions from Maks, who supposedly was all “what about Nicole and Derek!” in response to criticism about Heather. :::rolls eyes::: If he really said that, his stupid is showing. I can’t believe an actual dance pro would have to read Courtney’s article on Heather to GET IT, but clearly he does.

Anyway, I gotta go open the wine.

Of course the first three pros we see are Val, Gleb and Maks cuz the women don’t mean jack. Gee, Heather can really dance. What a shock. Not.

Already sick of seeing Val. He was all over that dance.

Normani seems sweet. What is on Val’s head? Read more..

Hollywood Reporter Interviews DWTS Executive Producers, Including Questions about Heather Morris Extensive Dance Background

Well this is certainly an interesting interview. Remember the old saying “Me thinks they doth protest too much?” Yeah. This. 🙂 Hollywood Reporter interviews executive producers Joe Sungkur and Ashley Edens about DWTS, including some tough questions about Heather Morris and her very obvious dance experience…and our execs have the company line down pat. Even if it is complete BS.  Excerpts (and commentary) below.  The way they write about Heather, it’s entirely possible that everyone (besides us) is starting to realize this show has jumped the shark totally and completely.

While most of the ensemble represents the show’s standard mix of actors, reality stars and pro athletes, there is one notable exception with the addition of Morris. Long before she became a household name as Brittany S. Pierce on Fox’s hit musical comedy, Morris was a professional dancer working for Beyonce. She danced backup on The Beyonce Experience world tour, and danced alongside her on Saturday Night Live, the American Music Awards and The Ellen DeGeneres Show, among others.

They really drive the point home here, don’t they? I think I love them. 😉

Courtney: When the “coven” at Pure ain’t the only ones hip to the fact A PROFESSIONAL DANCER is part of the celeb cast this season and aren’t afraid to call TPTB out on it, you know this is gonna be a tough season for the higher-ups at DWTS.

Vogue: Oh boy, I can see what’s coming already.

Ahead of the premiere, The Hollywood Reporter spoke with longtime executive producers Joe Sungkur and Ashley Edens to find out what’s in store for the season, whether or not they think Morris has an unfair advantage, the reason behind the lack of Bachelorette stars and their dream contestants.

Again, more on Heather…and they’re bringing up the sore, Bachelorette point.

What’s the process like when pairing the stars with the professional dancers? What were the conversations for this season like? How much say do the dancers have in who they dance with?

Eden: There’s no real science or a perfect formula behind the pairing process. The dancers don’t have a say in who they’re getting. Jo, myself and [casting director] Deena [Katz] who books the cast. Deena will know the celebrities a little bit more. Joe and I work with the dancers day in and day out so together we try and make the best pairings based on height, personality [and] dance ability or lack there of. We try not to always put predictable pairings together. You’re not seeing Witney [Carson] with the exact same type person every single season. That’s a challenge. And ultimately we want everyone to be happy whether it’s the celebrity or the dancer. That’s at the forefront in making the strongest pairings.

Derek Hough’s New Show, “World of Dance” Set to Premiere May 8th

At 10 pm/9pm central – right after DWTS. 🙂 Very strategic placement, I would say.  Hope this show is as good as it looks and is more successful that SYTYCD. We’ll see. The difference being this show was all pre-taped and edited…should make it have less filler crap. Hopefully.

ETA: Also, note that the show will move to Tuesdays on May 30th according to Deadline.

Yahoo has an article and a couple photos about the show, including this poster:

DWTS Season 24, Week ONE – Who’s Dancing What…and When?

It’s that time once again, folks…who got the easy dances and who got hosed…only hosed isn’t really hosed in week 1 if you’re a female celeb. Get the hard stuff out of the way early, eh?

You all probably saw Vogue’s post from a couple days ago with the press release about the songs and dances, but I do this post every week in hopes we’ll get the dance order too. Cross your fingers.

ETA: Claire (via DWTSGossip) has a screencap of what looks like the telepromptr which says Normani and Val are going first tonight. We’ll see, as these things can change during dress. But it makes sense since she’s a dancer and they like to open the show with a bang.

DWTS Season 24: Las Vegas Lays Odds on the Couples Before Week 1

Well, lets see what the odds makers have come up with for this season…and how we feel about those odds. We usually disagree, I think mainly because the people who come up with them are not fans of the show and seem to base betting on their knowledge of the celeb. And right on Bovada Sports book, where these came from, it says that it changes by performance when there is so much more to the show. 🙂  These are the odds to WIN the show, not a ranking although we tend to look at it as a ranking.

Simone Biles          +200
Heather Morris     +500
Bonner Bolton       +700
Normani Kordei    +700
Erika Jayne             +750
Charo                       +800
Nancy Kerrigan    +1000
Rashad Jennings +1200
Nick Viall              +1600
David Ross           +1600
Chris Kattan         +2000
Mr. T                      +2500

Oddly enough, they could have the top 4 right! They *could*…I still think that either Normani or Heather are going to go out at the quarterfinals or earlier. I don’t think the show can sustain that many ringers and there are three in their top 3. On top of the numerous ringers, there is a ton of personality in this cast, both male and female. And absent some kickass choreo, personality can go a long way.

That said…not as far as Charo, I don’t think. 🙂 They think she’s gonna take both Rashad and Nancy?? That strikes me as wrong, but I guess we’ll have to see. I usually have a much better feel for how it’s going to shake out after week 2.

Vogue: Gosh, I don’t think I’ve ever been so conflicted about what the odds should be? For what we have in dance ability this season (whether they are young or older), they make up with the entertainment or charisma factor. I think the odds makers have it right with the first two. Then again, I’m getting a Hope Solo vibe with Heather in that she won’t be very well liked. I think I’d put Normani at #2 or #3. I think Rashan could make it to the top 3 or 4 too. I think they have the last four right except for Mr. T. I can’t imagine him being ousted first. I also wonder on Charo? Like Miss Heidi, I would think Nancy and Rashad would beat her for sure. I can’t wait to read everyone’s thoughts on this. *so conflicted*

Courtney: Pump those brakes, Vegas – no way I see Charo doing that well. I’d put her maybe above Chris Kattan, and I’d actually move Mr. T up a few spots – I think he’ll be a nostalgic favorite, even if he isn’t a fantastic dancer. I’d switch Heather & Normani – seems to be a lot of skepticism from fans about Heather being a professional dancer already, and if these annoying Harmonizers that seem to be coming out of the woodwork are any indicator, Normani may have some staying power; and I’d bring Rashad up – from what I’ve seen so far, he’s actually showing some promise. Erika should probably drop down a bit; the one I’m left not really sure how to feel about is Nancy – I think she has the talent to do well, but I’m very skeptical about how her pro is going to harness it…and whether they’re going to get along well.

Dancing with the Stars Season 24 Cast Announcement – LIVE BLOG

Well, here we go…with what, at first blush, appears to be the most jacked up season in DWTS history…and not in a good way. We’ve got one professional dancer and countless other female ringers. If you’re a female pro on this show…I’m sorry. Do good choreo – you women have a better shot at an Emmy than your male counterparts do.

Anyway, this first hour is likely to be news, etc. The GMA fluff, including DWTS cast announcement is usually sometime in the second hour. Well, for GMA the fluff starts much earlier, but the DWTS stuff probably won’t happen until after 8 pm eastern.

Oy veh…they’ve already started with the “I pity the fool…” and other hints, supposedly corresponding to the people below…

The blatant pimping of Val, Maks AND Peta begins. Nauseating.  And when will Maks and Val learn then aren’t actually funny? Like, at all?

Ginger, you were overhyped when you were on DWTS…and I don’t need you on my TV now.

Man, we are so going to miss the Hough-Ballas contingent to keep this show from going into the toilet.

Here we go….Tiny Tom next to the GMA giants…

Nancy Kerrigan and Artem

Chris Kattan and Witney

Mr. T and Kym

Simone Biles and Sasha (!!!)

Rashad Jennings and Emma (!!)

David Ross and Lindsay

Heather Morris and Maks

Charo and Keo

Erika Jane and Gleb

Normani Kordei and Val

Bonner Bolton and Sharna

They went through that so fast that I saw none of it and had to follow Court on twitter. LOL.

Okay, Sasha and Emma are being given a huge shot here…about time.  Let’s see what they can do!

Wow they actually mentioned that Heather danced with Beyonce!! But then Heather went with the “Ballroom is very different” line.

And here we go with the Chmer-clan bullshit. :::rolls eyes:::

Tom: Well we have plenty of bull on dancing with the stars – truer words were never said. Anyway, I can see why Sharna blushed around him…he’s CUTE that Bonner.

Ohhhh…booo hooo…poor Val having to travel.

NOTE: Male pros sitting with their partners down in front…all the women STANDING in the back. But this show isn’t sexist at all.

OMG…how much do I love Charo?? Very, very much. LOL

Ya know… People Magazine published Nick as a contestant with Peta. Not sure why GMA is being so dramatic.

Heh.  They FINALLY give Sasha a ringer….and still manage to give Maks an even bigger ringer. I love Emma, but I’m hoping for Sasha/Simone domination.

That’s it, I’m out and off to work.
