Written by: John

Everyone probably knows by now that here at Pure Dancing with the Stars we try to list all of the music used on Dancing with the Stars. Don’t believe me? Go and check out our list of Dancing with the Stars music. Well, the plan is to do the same this year. In fact, that link will continue to update with the latest Dancing with the Stars 2010 music as the season progresses. So, bookmark it and come back regularly.

Each year, I like to do a post about the music I’d like to see on the next season of DWTS. However, this year I decided that I’d let the readers of Pure DWTS make their lists and then I’ll plan on highlighting those lists of possible DWTS 2010 music in a future post. So, let’s see people’s list of top 10 songs they’d like to see on DWTS 2010.

As a side note, Louis Van Amstel just tweeted the music that Niecy Nash and him will be dancing too: Rescue Me Fontella Bass - Chess Soul: A Decade of Chicago's Finest - Rescue Me. Here’s his full tweet:

Our song is ‘Rescue me’???!!!!I wonder who needs rescueing???lol….who do u think @NiecyNash ?????

Ok, what other music will be on DWTS 2010?

UPDATE:
I’ll update this post with the Dancing with the Stars 2010 Premiere music as we find it.

Dancing with the Stars Music – The Live Band

Written by: Princess Heidi

I see by the comments that this is a timely article. :-) I highly recommend clicking the link and reading the entire article. Some excerpts from Variety:

Live band gives ‘Dancing’ lift

It’s 9:15 a.m. on a Monday morning on Stage 46 at CBS Television City. Harold Wheeler, music director for ABC’s hit “Dancing With the Stars,” is already well into rehearsal with his 17-piece band and quartet of singers for that night’s live, two-hour show.
He calls out the 3/4-time, country-flavored “Only One Road.” Standing at his keyboard, headphones on, he conducts sans baton while actress Melissa Joan Hart and her pro partner Mark Ballas waltz around the floor while the stage’s mirrored ball spins slowly, showering the room with points of light.

This is the first time that Hart and Ballas have heard what the band will play. For the previous five days, they’ve been rehearsing to a cut-down version of the original 1994 Celine Dion track.

I guess I didn’t realize they were rehearsing with cut downs right up until Monday morning. That would be…stressful for the dancers, I think. The non-pros anyway. The entire article talks about Donny talking to Harold and getting the speed adjusted – and he’s a pro! That would be pretty darn difficult for non-musicians to do, I would think. Make communicating with Harold Wheeler more challenging.

“Music is the essence of everything,” says “Dancing With the Stars” head judge Len Goodman during a break. “Without good music you will never get good dancing. Harold Wheeler and our band are unsung heroes, and the singers are fantastic. Whatever is thrown at them, they can do. Lindy hop, hip-hop, swing, every genre of music, they cope brilliantly.”

In fact, the band consists of some of L.A.’s top studio musicians and singers. Trumpeters Rick Baptist and Warren Luening, saxophonist Dan Higgins, keyboard player Tom Ranier and drummer Ralph Humphrey are among the town’s first-call players. Vocalists Darryl Phinnessee (veteran of multiple Michael Jackson Jackson tours), Carmen Carter, Beverley Staunton and Antonio Sol are not just good singers, says Wheeler, “they’re great singers.”

I think the band is great – but from time to time the singers really butcher a song, sad to say. Of course, everyone has an off night or an off performance. I guess I also never really gave them (and the band as a whole) credit for having to perform multiple genres in a given week – that is challenging.

Senior producer Erin O’Brien creates a list of “well over 1,000 songs” that the staff attempts to clear with music publishers. “And out of every 100 songs,” she says, “I may not even hear back on half. Of the rest, I may end up getting denials on half. Some artists don’t agree to the fee, some prefer that their versions get heard, and some simply don’t do business with reality shows, period.”

When the celebrities are booked, “I ask all of my dancers for song ideas and suggestions,” she adds. “We tell them, ‘tell us anything you could ever possibly want to dance to.’ Not a lot of them end up working,” she concedes.

Once tunes are cleared for use, music editor Graham Jarvis – working in the U.K. and using the internet – decides whether they are appropriate for tangos or waltzes or any of the several categories, and then creates edited versions of the songs (anywhere from 60 to 100 seconds long). It is those versions that the dancers rehearse to, until the Monday morning sessions with the live band.

I find the whole “process” of making a list of songs through the final rehearsals with the live band to be absolutely fascinating. I guess I never thought about how much has to go into just the music portion of the program. Of course I knew the Pros gave ideas and they either got cleared for use or not, but the rest of it is new and interesting information!!

I think that I vote to keep the live band – it does add an element to the show that other shows don’t have – although I think American Idol how has live music (sometimes).

Top Dancing with the Stars Season 9 Music

Written by: John

Many of you know that we’ve been doing our best to list all of the songs used on Dancing with the Stars. Hopefully you’ve found that useful. I see a lot of people visiting those pages, but rarely hear what people think about it.

Anyway, I always think it’s fun to look back at the music from the season of Dancing with the Stars and see which songs were the most popular. This isn’t scientific. It’s basically based on which songs got the most clicks. So, here’s the top 4 songs used on Dancing with the Stars season 9.

Hallelujah Leonard Cohen - The Essential Leonard Cohen - Hallelujah – Leonard Cohen (this blew all the other songs out of the water)
Would You…. ? Touch & Go - I Find You Very Attractive - Would You... ? – Touch & Go
Living on Video Trans-X - Living On Video - Living On Video – Trans-X
They Jem - Finally Woken - They – Jem

Very interesting set of music. Thanks for stopping by all year for the DWTS music. Of course, we’ll be doing our best to keep up with the other rumors in the off season and be back for more DWTS music next season as well.

Dancing with the Stars Music – Alicia Keys, Leona Lewis and The Bee Gees

Written by: John

Time again for the list of music from the special guests on Dancing with the Stars.

Alicia Keys sang “Try Sleeping with a Broken Heart” Alicia Keys - Try Sleeping With a Broken Heart - Single - Try Sleeping With a Broken Heart with the Alicia Keys’s dancers
Leona Lewis sang “Happy” Leona Lewis - Echo - Happy with the Leona Lewis’ dancers
The Bee Gees sang “You Should Be Dancing” Bee Gees - Saturday Night Fever (The Original Movie Soundtrack) [Remastered] - You Should Be Dancing with Melissa Rycroft, Tony Dovolani, Chelsie Hightower, Cheryl Burke, and Artem Chigvinsev dancing

Also, looks like yesterday we had a real hit with the song Joanna and Derek danced a Viennese Waltz to: “Hallelujah” Leonard Cohen - The Essential Leonard Cohen - Hallelujah—Leonard Cohen. People absolutely love that song (and so they should). I’ll be posting a list of the top music from Dancing with the Stars soon and that one should be on the list.

On a side note, I was sad to see Derek and Joanna get sent home. Not that I was all that surprised. Joanna has a much smaller fan base than the others. What’s most disappointing about it for me is that Derek creates the most incredible freestyle dances. That will be a tremendous loss for the finale. The good part is that at the finale we get to see all of the dancers back on the show. With 16 dancers, that’s going to be a LOT of dances.

Aaron Carter Sent Home on DWTS

Written by: Jeanne

I was slightly disappointed that Aaron was sent home last night.  I think out of all the contestants he had the most up and down experience going from amazing in the first 2 weeks and then getting overly cocky and hard to watch and then back to brilliant and passionate dancing.  I had a feeling Aaron was going to be sent home over Kelly but let’s take a look at his best dances and hottest outfits :)

BEST DANCES
Week 1: Cha-Cha
Little Aaron Carter can dance! This was an amazing premier dance for Aaron and Karina! I loved that you could tell he was working so hard to be a good dancer but also an amazing partner for Karina. Every time he touched her I could tell he was into it!

Week 2: Viennese Waltz
I loved the Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy story line here!

Week 5: Argentine Tango
He feel of the wagon during weeks 3 and 4 but came back with his Robert Patterson vibe in the Argentine Tango! This dance was so sexy and confident on his end and he had amazing partnering for Karina!

Week 6: Waltz
This was Aaron’s most mature dance of the season! Absolutely loved it :)

Week 7: Jive
BEST DANCE!!!! This dance was so him…fast, energetic, and so much fun! His foot work was off the charts phenomenal!

HOTTEST COSTUMES

I loved his Argentine Tango costume…Very Patterson inspired and he looked like man :)
DWTS

I thought his Kermit the Frog outfit was adorable!  He really doesn’t have a color that doesn’t look amazing on him!  But that could be the spray tan!

Normally I would not like an outfit like this one but something about it is very suiting for him.  And how could you not love Karina in this dress :)

Not the picture I was looking for…but who doesn’t love a guy in all white :)

DWTS Week 8 Edition: THE GOOD, THE BAD, and THE INCREDIBLY HOT!

Written by: Jeanne

What a week!

THE GOOD
The thing with all Mya is that she is always good just never outstanding. She stays in the safe zone and that’s why I never get the ‘WOW’ factor from her like I do with Derek and Joanna! However, Dmitry and his mustache were amazing :)

THE BAD
Don’t get me wrong…I really enjoy watching Kelly and Louis but I think this storyline was just to much! The doll carried on for way to long and her dancing was very small in comparison to all the other celebs dances. I don’t think the dance was terrible but it had no ‘WOW’ factor

THE INCREDIBLY HOT
OH MY GOD!!!!!!!  These two do it again…Derek’s choerography was BRILLIANT!  By far my favorite dance of the season!

THE INCREDIBLY HOT TAKE 2!
I LOVED seeing Sabrina and Mark together again…this routine was fantastic and so hot!

THE INCREDIBLY HOT TAKE 3!
Amazing lifts…amazing chemistry…amazing dance!

Ballas Hough Dancing with the Stars Performance

Written by: John

I admit that I wasn’t really wow’d by the Ballas Hough performance by Mark and Derek. The dancing was entertaining, but I was hoping for a little more. In fact, I was hoping that they’d have the other professional ballroom dancers perform. That would have been really cool I think.

That said, the song “Move” is pretty good and really takes Ballas Hough into a completely different area of music. You can download “Move” by Ballas Hough on iTunes Ballas Hough - Move - Single - Move and Amazon.

Here’s the video of the Ballas Hough Dancing with the Stars performance:

The other guest performers on Dancing with the Stars were:
Colbie Caillat singing “Fallin’ for You” Colbie Caillat - Breakthrough (Deluxe Version) - Fallin' for You while Alec Mazo and Edyta Śliwińska danced in the following video:

Rod Stewart singing “It’s the Same Old Song” Rod Stewart - Soulbook - It's the Same Old Song with the Rod Stewart’s dancers
