Dancing with the Stars Season 30 WEEK 5!! LIVE BLOG!!

Well, it’s Grease Night, I believe and I’m quite curious to see if they pull off this idea or if it’s a hot mess. Can it be both?? I guess we’ll find out!!

In about 35 minutes…want to read up on the episdode?? Warning: there are spoilers in here if you care about that sort of thing. Thanks to Linz for the heads up.

I’m gonna start slow because I’m late eating. Bear with me.

Congrats to Kathryn Burns for a fabulous opening number!! Wow that was great. Oh and Derek’s cartoon – loved it.

Olivia did a great job with that dance. I would have to watch it again (I was eating!) to see if there was a lot of foxtrot in there. But that’s what happens when you have these themes.

Judges just raved about it. Where did Derek run off to before scoring??

Scores: 9, 9, 9, 9 for a total of 36.

Melora is up next. Will she be ridiculously overscored again or are the judges ready to let her go. Again, I like Melora, but good lord. The over scoring results in couples being shocked when the judges get real. She’s playing Rizzo at the pajama party.

Okay, this is her dance for sure. Much better than previous weeks. But she better not be high scorer again. Didn’t really look like a V. Waltz. I have a feeling I”m going to be saying that a lot tonight.

Derek looks fantastic in pink and black. Derek gives her a good critique about her top line, but raves over all. CAI making up reasons to give her the high score of the night and Len is helping her.

Scores: 9, 9, 9, 9 for a total of 36.

Iman and Daniella up next with a Viennese Waltz to Hopelessly Devoted. Not a big fan, but Julianne Hough on Grease Live did the best version of this song I’d heard in a while. Absolutely slayed this song.

Lord, Daniella is just a goddess. And she’s turning Iman into a dancer. He’s not a dancer that some of the women are, but damn, I love watching him. He gets so into it and he is acting it beautifully. I’m sure there’s lots to pick at, but I love it.

Bruno seems to feel it like I do, but has some valid critiques. CAI doesn’t understand the definition of the word truth. Len liked the gentleness, but the technique isn’t great. Recognizes how hard he works at it. Derek has critiques but has a hard time with it as well.

Scores: 7, 7, 7, 7 for a total of 28 – makes me sad, but I can’t argue with it.

The Miz got Greased Lightning. πŸ™‚ So perfect. I love how excited his wife is. πŸ™‚

Whitney pulling out some great choreo and he’s handling all of it quite well. The side by side was great. Love him as much as Iman and he’s a better dancer. As Courtney said at the beginning of the season – the men are just more entertaining. Except Jojo – love her.

CAI making excuses again for low balling him. Len being cranky-ish. Derek likes him too, but he does sort of agree with Len and CAI. He did rush it a bit at the end, but that doesn’t rate the low ball score they’re likely to give him.

Scores: 8, 8, 8, 8 for a total of 32 – guess I can live with that, although I think one or two them could have gone up a point.

Gee, Tyra, those of us who have actually watched the movie know’s who Amanda is dancing to and what character she is.

Amanda gets DeeDee and Frankie? Oooookay.

Frankie off to a rough start, but he’s still got it. Of course she’s killing this dance, but as a professional dancer I would be shocked if she didn’t. That leg up move was amazing. Loved the ending run. Lovely.

Len thought it was fantastic, but he had a few things he “wasn’t sure about”. Derek on the leg extension of course. Derek can’t put his finger on something that would have made it a ten. Good, because she’s a professional dancer and the bar should be higher (instead of putting the bar on Iman and Miz). CAI is a lock for a ten.

Why does Tyra keep harping on Frankie singing live?? Did she think he didn’t do well?

Scores: 10, 10, 9, 10 for a total of 39 – thank god for Derek. Of course it was a good dance, but such a high score?

Suni is up next and she does seem like she’s more open. Sasha, please don’t kill her. She’s doing a Charleston.

Wow, she’s killing it. Seems like she lost a bit of steam when in hold for some odd reason. But she’s doing great!

Derek is hilarious, but he loved the dance. Bruno notes the bit of Lindy. CAI though it was fantastic, wants to push her – again with the excuse to underscore her. Len smiled the whole time.

Scores: 9, 9, 9, 9 for a 36 out of 40. See, Suni is not a professional dancer, but she wasn’t three points behind Amanda who is a professional dancer. Normally the judges are tougher on the people with dance experience, but apparently that’s only when they’re partnered with Derek.

Love Jimmy as well – the men continue to be more exciting. And Jimmy had a baby this weekend! LOL at the old video of Nashville. He’s doing a foxtrot to Stranded at the Drive In.

I love watching him for the same reasons as Iman, although he’s a much better dancer. Just doing a great job. Loved it.

What happened there at the end, I missed it??

Bruno seems to love it except for a slip at the end. Good for Emma explaining about the floor. Sounds dangerous. Len makes a silly joke that Derek approves of. Says there’s a flair about his dancing. Derek says it had it all, complete package.

Scores: 8, 8, 9, 9 for a total of 34 – I agree with that!

Kenya breaking my heart with her story. She looks stunning as per usual. She’s doing rumba as Rizzo – this song always breaks my heart.

She really looks stunning and doing a very credible rumba. Had a little problem with the turn. All in all, great job!! Loved it. That floor still looks rough.

CAI raves about that dance – I have to agree with her for a change. Len screws up his metaphor but he is raving about the dance as well. Derek raves as well. Bruno fanning himself. And then he gets a bit out of control.

Scores: 9, 9, 9, 9 for a total of 36. I would be inclined to say they were working over time to keep her in the competition if I didn’t love that dance so much.

Perfect dance for Jojo and Jenna – or Sandy and Frenchie. πŸ™‚ Look at Me. And it’s a foxtrot. Every week I’m surprised by this girl and I’m surprised how much I love this girl!!

Also a pro, this girl, but damn, I love watching her. She’s good at every part of dancing. My favorite, by a mile. Should be the high scorer, IMO. That was EXCELLENT!! So, good.

Len actually stands up, very affected by the quality and the emotion. Derek loves the partnership, says it’s gorgeous says it was pristine. Bruno is shivering – actually says some profound stuff. CAI says it was perfection. Agreed.

Scores: 10, 10, 10, 10 for the first perfect score of the season. Well deserved.

Number Update: Well, Iman is in the bottom with a 28 and next person above him is the Miz with a 32 and Jimmy with a 34 – and I like all of those guys and don’t want to see any of them go. And I honestly don’t know what’s going to happen. Have they insulated Kenya enough to keep her out of the bottom?? And if she is in the bottom against one of those men are they going to save her again? She may be a better dancer, but she keeps falling into the bottom. Could get tricky.

Melanie C gets the penultimate song – You’re the One that I Want. Β Gleb once again with partners complaining about him. Β It’s him not them. πŸ™‚ She’s dancing a quickstep.

She looks great. She got out of step there right at the beginning, but she seems to get it back. She is lacking bit of confidence and I’m not sure why, I think she’s mostly doing great!

Derek gives her his lesson on confidence, says a lot of nice things about her dance, but noted the boo boo at the beginning. Bruno likes it. CAI likes that she shared the vulnerability, started nervous, just try to have fun. Len says it was her best dance.

Scores: 9, 9, 9, 9 for a total of 36 – this seems high to me, but not by a lot. Hmmmm….is she going home?

They have a whole bunch of women at 36 and all the very entertaining men well below that. Trying to get rid of the guys??

Cody dancing to “We go Together” which Cheryl claims is the best known song – how would she know this having never seen this movie?? He’s doing a quickstep as well and says they can’t break hold – someone remembers!!

He’s actually doing a very good job – his feet got wonky at one point and he needs to pull his butt in, but all in all, good job!

Bruno says it was uplifting and celebratory. He points out the footwork and work on the hold. CAI reminds everyone he had Covid, mentions closing the gap. Len says he needed a stronger frame, but loved the energy. Derek thought it was a great finish to the night. Cody is also a dancer but clearly not as accomplished as Amanda and Jojo.

Scores: 8, 8, 8, 8 for a total of 32

My guess? I wouldn’t be surprised to see Kenya and Suni or Cody in the bottom. Of course some of the lower scoring guys could be down there, but Iman is a ball player, the Miz has the wrestling community, Jimmy is a country music star…we’ll see!

SAFE: Kenya and Brandon
SAFE: Jimmy and Emma
SAFE: Melora and Artem
SAFE: Cody and Cheryl
SAFE: Suni and Sasha
SAFE: Jojo and Jenna
SAFE: The Miz and Witney
SAFE: Amanda and Alan
SAFE: Iman and Daniella (hehehehehe)

Olivia and Mel C in the bottom and Tyra FINALLY gets how the judges votes are going to work. It only took to week 5.

Derek: Olivia and Val
CAI: Mel C and Gleb (typical faux drama)
Bruno: Mel C and Gleb
Len: Olivia and Val

I think that was the right call, sadly. I swear they discuss during the commercial how to make it as dramatic as possible while saving the one they want to save. Anyway, Olivia is turning into a beautiful dancer whereas Mel C was struggling and not as enjoyable to watch. Have to say I LOVE how those men they are lowballing are getting the votes. πŸ™‚

I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. And I'm cynical and jaded too. But I do love DWTS. :-)

Dancing with the Stars Season 30 WEEK 4!! Night TWO!! LIVE BLOG!!

So, night two, Disney Villains. I’m so excited that I’ll probably truly start blogging a bit late because I haven’t eaten yet. πŸ™‚

Let me ask you this: DWTSGossip tweeted a screenshot from CAI’s instastories that showed that week 8 is “Fashion Week”. Thoughts? I think it’s damn stupid, but maybe that’s just me pissed at Tyra’s narcissism.

I like the Bruno opening way better than yesterday’s. πŸ™‚

Okay, finished eating, trying to catch up fast….

Jimmy did a jazz to Billie Eilish and it was freakin’ amazing. He got a 35, which was very well deserved.

Cody doing V. Waltz as Gaston from Beauty and the Beast. His feet seemed wonky to me, or something. Agree with Derek’s comment. He got a 31 which seems fine to me. I’m not a Cody fan – not sure why.

Mel C doing a V. Waltz looking stunning as Maleficent. Love this V. Waltz – very nice. Better than Cody’s, IMO. Agree with all the judges except Len. I don’t like picking toooo much on content on theme nights – although others handle it better than Gleb.

She gets a 35 out of 40 and I dig that.

What is really annoying is the “let’s put commercials after every single dance” mentality that ABC has – both last night and tonight.

The couple who are currently my favorite is up next – Jenna and Jojo. They just move amazing together and this Paso Doble should be excellent. And two girls works perfectly for this theme

Right amount of passion, lots of Paso shaping and steps. Just excellent. This girl gets into every character. So good.

CAI is full of crap and Len is right – for a change. Derek manages to get so much content in his comments!! Amazing and handsome. πŸ™‚ CAI is odd woman out on this one.

I can’t believe how much I’m loving this girl!! A well deserved 35!

Kenya up next as the Evil Queen from Snow White. She’s doing a V. Waltz.

Another stunning look. Very sultry for a V. Waltz, but I’m not mad about it. I think it works for the theme but Len will bitch. I dug it.

Len manages to be a dick while complimenting her. Very British. CAI needs to STFU about the feet on the floor. That’s just so over the top to the point of ridiculous.

She gets a 30 out of 40 which seems a tad low to me.

Iman is up next – he was so good last night. He’s doing AT as the Genie.

Wow, Daniella’s plank at the beginning. Wow. Not as good as last night, but still credible. Needed to point his toes on that one kick. And again with the plank. Amazing. Freaking amazing.

Derek and Bruno both loved the opening and the closing and Derek briefly mentioned steps. CAI caught the flexed foot but is also blown away. Len liked it too, although he’ll horribly underscorer him.

Iman gets a 33 – in case you’re wondering, Len did indeed low ball but not as bad as he often does. Sometimes it really does come down to one move blowing the room away.

Numbers Update: Pretty nice spread so far and I’m afraid for Kenya, but we’ll see. I’m also worried for anyone getting 9s, even if that is irrational in most cases

JoJo 70
Mel 66
Jimmy 65
Iman 63
Kenya 59
Cody 58

I do think that Jojo, Mel and Jimmy are likely safe, due to their respective (sizable) fan bases. Β Of course, I’m making an assumption that because Jimmy is in Country Music, he’ll also get the crazy fanbase. But that group also tends to lean conservative and they sometimes have problems with color. Β But I’m giving the benefit of the doubt because he’s so awesome.

It just pisses me off that Tyra continues to make this show all about her – the catwalk at the beginning and the need for multiple outfits per show. Her budget is taking away from the actual performers costumes.

Melora up next as a character from Tangled which is one I never saw. Girl, you don’t need to introduce Kate. Anyway, she’s dancing Jazz – lucky break that she might need.

Why is Artem squandering his jazz by turning it into a V. waltz?? She’s moving beautifully but he didn’t get the memo. He added a lift that can’t be called out, but….

Bruno is loving it. CAI seems to rave too, although she calls it “safe”. Len is mean to CAI so he can rave about her dance. Derek loves it as well. Me thinks she might be in the bottom two.

Scores: 9, 10, 9, 9 for a total of 37 – she should be frightened, she might be going home. Len typically underscores, he went way over the top on that one. Don’t get me wrong, I love Melora – but compared to Jojo in no way was that a 10. Of course, Jojo may be running away with it.

Okay totally sidetracked. I assume Miz was doing an AT due to the lifts. What I saw seemed pretty good!! I do love him screaming at Witney. Hilarious. πŸ™‚

Judges are raving over this dance – makeup is crazy good.

Scores: 9, 8, 9, 8 for a total of 34 – that seems reasonable, although I’m not sure about the 9s.

So, if they don’t overscore BAG (or Matt) like they are everyone else, are they trying to get rid of him? If so, why? Or are they over scoring those who need help and underscoring those who are killing it? I don’t think it’s the latter, I think it’s a mixture of the two which is why the comments seem out of wack.

BAG doing a Pirates Paso Doble. I like Sharna’s vision for this one. So far. πŸ™‚

He forgot it was on the knees? Horrible camera work once again. This dance was rather rough, IMO. Did he drop Sharna at the end?? Just not up to the other dances.

Len has actual critiques for this dance. Derek doesn’t have much. Bruno has lots of criticism as well. CAI says it was a valiant effort. I dunno. Tyra is totally into showmance and needs to blather about it at every opportunity.

Scores: 7, 6, 7, 7 for a total of 27 –

Numbers Update: I don’t disagree with Brian’s score but I don’t think he’s so far below the rest of the pack. Don’t get me wrong – he’s not up to the standard of many of the other couples, but he’s not a full 10 points below Melora (21 points when you add the scores). If she had gotten a 32, then I think they would be properly spaced. But as it is, it seems that he’s being lowballed while she’s being overscored. Makes me wonder what game they’re playing here. Look at this spread:

Melora 73
JoJo 70
Mel 66
Jimmy, Miz 65
Iman 63
Kenya 59
Cody 58
Brian 52

That’s just crazy talk!! If it was 10 or even 15 points, I would have less trouble with it – but 21?? Β I agree with Jojo and Mel’s scores, but what’s the deal with Melora??

Matt is up next – curious to see if they keep him down with Brian. He’s dancing Paso.

Love the costume and makeup and I think he’s doing quite well with the Paso! Fierce. Lindsay doing some good back leading.

Positive feed back from Derek, compliments from Bruno and asking him to refine. CAI says she thinks he gave it all, also talks about the step size. Len talks three P’s – says he saw a little but he could give him so much more.

Score: 8, 7, 8, 8 for a total of 31 – I feel like they got this one pretty right! Maybe the Bachelor producers took away Len’s crack.

Next is Olivia doing Jazz from Coco (great movie by the way, although I cried all the way through it).

She’s doing amazingly well. I do wish these pros knew how to choreograph Jazz and contemporary. Neither Val nor Artem are getting it tonight. That said, Olivia is doing very well with what she was given – which wasn’t a lot. Not sure I understood the character choices.

Bruno is raving…not sure why. CAI thinks it felt safe – I think I agree with this. I couldn’t decide what the issue was for me. Len is raving as well. Derek imitating Len is what I’m here for. πŸ™‚ Derek is very complimentary too, but going crazy like Len and Bruno.

Of for god’s sake, Val, shut up with the ass kissing camera hogging.

Scores: 8, 9, 9, 9 for a total of 35. Again – good dancer, nothing particularly wrong with the dance other than the choreo -but the scores seem out of wack. I don’t think Olivia is at Jojo’s level, but then neither is Melora. I think the judges are trying to level the playing field a bit.

Numbers Update: Not sure what they’re going for here, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see any combination of Melora, Kenya, Cody and maybe Brian in the bottom two. Tough call. Possibly Suni – I keep forgetting about her.

Melora 73
JoJo, Olivia 70
Mel 66
Jimmy, Miz 65
Iman 63
Kenya 59
Cody 58
Brian 52

Suni is going to be one of the sisters from Hocus Pocus – Bette Midler? Β Suni is opening up more – seems like a very sweet girl. Β I think she’s doing a V. Waltz? Yep, V. Waltz.

She got hosed in the costume department – too matronly for such a young woman. Excellent in hold, great back bends. Well done. I liked it!

CAI is appropriately raving. Len cries about a fleckle. Derek says she’s beautiful and her performance is coming out. Bruno says “bewitching”.

Scores: 9, 8, 9, 9 for a total of 35 – that seems about right. She seems like she has improved a lot.

Amanda up next and Alan looks like someone but I can’t put my finger on who…Amanda looks amazing though.

Let’s Paso! I like it when it hits harder than her opening but the music doesn’t work for that yet. Love her character. Bit out of sync with the scarves – which is why you are taking a risk using them. πŸ™‚ I liked it. Best of the night, no -but very good!

Len is mildly happy. Derek is nitpicking – as he should with a professional dancer. Bruno liked it, calling out a slight mis-step. CAI is very quiet but complimentary. I get worried when she gets like that.

Scores: 9, 9, 9, 9 for a total of 36 – so why were they being so subdued?? Very great score after a bit of critique Weird.

Numbers Update: Last one for the night and I don’t think my opinion has changed from the last one. Here’s where they all stand on the leader board

Melora 73
JoJo, Olivia 70
Suni, Amanda 68
Mel 66
Jimmy, Miz 65
Iman 63
Kenya 59
Cody 58
Matt 57
Brian 52

Really tough call – have a hard time believing it would be Brian and definitely not Matt. And I kinda feel like the overscoring of Melora is a warning sign. We’ll see!

Here we go:

SAFE: Cody and Cheryl
SAFE: Melora and Artem
SAFE: Iman and Daniella
SAFE: Miz and Witney
SAFE: Suni and Sasha
SAFE: Jimmy and Emma
SAFE: Amanda and Alan
SAFE: Jojo and Jenna
SAEF: Olivia and Val
SAFE: Mel C and Gleb

Very surprised to see Matt down there, although he was not super popular.

Brian and Sharna are at the very bottom and are eliminated.

Again Tyra screws up the judges thing.

Bruno: saves Matt and Lindsay
Derek: Saves Kenya and Brandon
CAI: Saves Matt

This makes no sense. It’s two to one. So Len gets to decide, over ruling EVERYONE.

He says Kenya is staying. Which is BS, IMO. I love Kenya. I also like Matt. But on this show, Len’s vote is not the one I would make most important. Why does he get to overrule Derek (who has won six times and has three Emmys), CAI and Bruno?? Yes, Derek voted for Kenya – but next time?? This is a stupid way to do it.

Dancing with the Stars Season 30 WEEK 4!! LIVE BLOG!!

Derek is back!!! My nearly sole reason for watching this show anymore. Although, I have to say that I’m really enjoying Jojo and Jenna, along with several of the male celebs this season. Jojo could get annoying quickly, but she hasn’t yet and something about this duo’s dancing is fun to watch.

T-20 minutes!!

Is it bad that I’m typically very blasΓ© about Disney night? Rarely am I excited about it. :::sigh:::

This opening really showed that Amanda is a professional dancer. Damn, Mel C has muscles!! Anyone else not getting this in HD? Love the opening overall, though. Better than Tyra although that bar was LOW.

Every time I see Tyra’s catwalk I just want to fucking scream. Also, she’s totally out of sync on my airing. Very annoying. What is going on here?

Am I the only one with sync issues?? Bad news on a dance show.

Jojo and Jenna up first with a V. Waltz. Apparently the couple who incorporates the most Mickey moves gets two points.

Wow, they are really doing well with the V. Waltz. I’ve always loved Jenna’s choreography – it’s just her taste in men that sucks. πŸ™‚ That was smooth and lovely.

Len says they had the bare necessities in terms of moves, but they danced it fantastically. Derek is gorgeous in green. And he loved the dance, says it was beautifully danced. Bruno says they were a dream come true, charm, grace elegance. CAI is proud of Jojo, says it was amazing, love that she was the frame for Jenna.

Okay, for some reason I was on the non-HD channel. Changing it solved the problem. Read more..

Dancing with the Stars Season 30 WEEK 3!! LIVE BLOG!!

Well, week 3 is also shaping up to be very interesting. So, Cody and Cheryl are going to perform with COVID – okay, totally glad that they feel well enough to attempt it, but wonder if every couple would get the same leeway. :::shrug::: Hopefully we don’t find out.

Also, totally get Court’s need for a break….I’m not even posting that much on PureDerekHough these days. It all seems like too much work, when I have a 9 to 5 on top of it. Maybe when I retire….someday. πŸ™‚

T-45 minutes! See you then.

Cue cheesy opening. Cue Tyra catwalk in attire that is so not….

I’m totally digging Jenna and JoJo’s outfits. Also realized that I get such a charge out of that pairing. Hope it stays that way.

Ah…so that’s why Derek’s residency was cancelled for last night. That sucks. And he’s the main reason I watch this damn show so I’m going to miss him. πŸ™

Amanda up first!! OMG, my mom is from her area!!

Of course she is amazing at this as well. I believe ChaCha…got distracted by Derek’s absence. Her arms were a bit funky in a couple spots. But great dance!

Len says she coped very well, but doesn’t excite him because there is nothing spontaneous. Bruno is…Bruno. Loves her legs but says she could give more impetus to the hips. Work on details now. CAI says she’s stunning, she loved how clean it was, but it is lacking posture. I thought it was her arms but maybe that’s what it was.

Scores: 8, 8, 8 for a total of 24. Good score!!

Iman is up next and I like this dude. And you all know about my girl crush on Daniella. πŸ™‚ Awww…cute babies. WTF? Why’d they give him Tango? Why?

Ooo, precise. Little too much swag, but all in all he’s coping quite well. Shitty camera work returns to DWTS. He’s standing up straight, posture doesn’t suck. I thought that was great!

Bruno says it was nice, solid tango, he’s really concentrating, tried heel leads. Try now to make it smoother. CAI says she didn’t expect, the way he toned down to match Danielle was impressive. Didn’t like him out of hold, stay elegant. Len says he’s never sure what’s going to turn up. Could see he was trying to work his feet, gave it his all.

Scores: 7, 6, 6 for a total of 19. Personally, I think that’s too low considering he pulled that off and he’s not a ringer.

Christine is up next. Curious to see if she’s in the bottom again or if this season is similar to last, where a near elimination boosts her votes. She loves being a mom and she didn’t think she ever would be. OMG, cutie baby. She’s doing a Paso.

Very strong start. Pasha getting off the stool was rough and her back leg kicking back was…odd. She’s doing an excellent job although she’s a tiny bit out of sync.

CAI says the shaping is beautiful, you have what it takes to win. Len was so shocked she was in the bottom two, glad she’s back, clean, crisp Paso Doble. Bruno love it, she was in charge and she went for it. They’re raving, which is odd. Great dance, but far from perfect.

Scores: 7, 7, 7 for a total of 21. They raved but gave her lower scores than Amanda who they had criticism for. Typical for these wacky judges. Where is Derek to keep it real??

Jojo and Jenna up next. I’m the weirdo that likes their dresses. I think Jojo is so much cuter when she’s not wearing all the glittery gunk. Just a button down and pants. Cute.

Doing an AT. Great start. Jenna – best choreographer on the show, challenged only by Daniella. This is excellent. I’m mesmerized. And Jojo did some killer lifts.

Len says it was a well crafted routine, liked the lifts. Too staccato in places, but she’s can’t make a bad performance, right on point. Bruno says she knows how to hit is. Always with the right side of sexy, works the camera like no one else. Might have missed a step in the middle. CAI agrees, but when she dances she’s powerful – she leads with clarity and intention.

I agree with CAI – she’s fun to watch and she’s great at it.

Scores: 8, 8, 8 for a total of 24. I would have given her one more point, just for being more exciting to watch than Amanda.

Kenya up next also with a Tango…kinda mean to put the Tango and AT back to back. Dancing to Womanizer…which will always make me think of Derek and Anna’s Tango.

They need the staccato from Jojo’s dance in this one. By no means is she doing badly, but she needs to be sharper. She’s got all the steps, just too soft.

Bruno says she’s back on track, it was a good tango, gliding across the floor. CAI says it was beautiful, supermodel vibes, so refined and elegant. She wobbled a few times. Len says hold was a bit loose, and lacked a bit of body contact, but captured the flavor of the dance.

Scores: 7, 7, 7 for a total of 21 – I can live with that.

Val camera hogging in the background. Goodie. Jeeeez…another Tango from Brian an Sharna?? 90210 sharna not a fan. πŸ™‚

I understand the lace, but that doesn’t mean I have to like it. Off to an underwhelming start. I don’t know if it’s the choreo or the song that’s not working for me. And the ending was weird.

CAI acting cray – says he’s finally arrived, but send more energy to the ground. Len says frame was overall good, body contact was there, footwork was pretty poor. Spirited effort. Bruno says he had mad max face, footwork needs work. This is week 3 fuckstick – not that “close to the middle of the season”.

Scores: 7, 6, 6 for a total of 19 – I agree with that score and that ties him with Iman. And I was more impressed with Iman’s.

Melora up next and she’s overwhelmed and vulnerable.

Dancing ChaCha….she looks great. and she’s working it pretty well. She’s still got a bit of a posture problem, but she’s doing pretty well. I thought that was pretty good!!

Len says that’s the Artem he loves, so much more hip action, great performance. Bruno says a veil has been lifted, she became the character. CAI says everyone stands out because she made it look easy, added light and shade.

Scores: 8, 7, 8 for a total of 23 – Not sure I would have gone that high, but hell, good for her.

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I actually like Tyra’s dress.

Mel C is up next and what is on her head??? ANOTHER Tango – this one to Toxic, which I love.

Okay, I get the hat. Still don’t like it, but I get it. Hate Gleb’s suit. Mel is dancing this very well and her back kick is what they’re supposed to look like. Little stumble there towards the end?? Not sure.

Bruno says she was flying high, first class service. CAI says it was filled with content, lines and legs are good, but something is a bit forced. Len says it was a bit stop/start, but got better at the end. Len says she’s a terrific dancer.

Scores: 7, 7, 8 for a total of 22 – that might have been a bit too low.

Dang, Jimmy’s got a cute baby too. Jimmy is doing a Salsa.

Dang that did by side was great. I can hear Len complaining about content, but I’m loving it, it’s well executed. That side by side is tough and he killed it. Love the lifts and flips!!.

CAI complains about his wonky fists and it distracted her, two of the lifts ins and outs were rough. Len liked the easy action and the rhythm. Last lift wasn’t in character. Bruno says they were watching another show, he thought that it all flowed beautiful, and notes the side by side sections were great.

Scores: 6, 6, 8 for a total of 20 – this was horribly underscored. Criminal.

Numbers Update: Here’s where we stand:

Amanda, Jojo 24
Melora 23
Mel C 22
Kenya, Christine, Jimmy 21
Iman, Brian 19

Despite being horribly underscored, I think Jimmy will be fine – I think he beats both Christine and Kenya.

Olivia is up next with…you guessed it…a Tango.

Love her outfit. She’s doing a good job Might have been taking steps that were too big at the beginning. That was actually quite good though!

Len says that was a proper tango, full of attach and staccato – using Val as an example? Ugh. Bruno says he loves the transformation. CAI calls it the best dance of the night, might have missed a step at the beginning, but great.

Scores: 8, 8, 8 for a total of 24 – I think I agree with that. She did a good job!

Cody and Cheryl are up next dancing in quarantine. They’re each in their own homes?? This is odd.

He’s doing very well. Are they out of sync or does one of them have bad internet? πŸ™‚ Pretty darn good. Cheryl was a bit irrelevant.

Bruno admires the perseverance and commitment, knows he has the ability but hard to judge – knows they’re both good, but hard to judge. CAI – bravo to both of you for dancing with Covid. Didn’t compare to those in the ballroom, but it wasn’t as great as it could be. Len – these are strange times, clear and tight, got the interchange. For the circumstances you did a terrific job.

Scores: 6, 6, 6 for a total of 18 – that seems fair.

Pros are going on tour. Ho hummmmm. Much rather see Daniella dancing with Derek again – now that was something to see!!

Suni up next with a….Foxtrot!! Hooray, something different.

Okay, it’s a foxtrot that feels like a Tango, with a wobbly handstand. Her arms are good, but what is going on here? She ‘s a bit wobbly in places and she’s too young for that.

CAI senses discomfort, know that you can still exude confidence. Len says not so much for him, didn’t capture foxtrot (agreed). Bruno says she started to play with the character, once you let it go you get more comfortable.

Scores: 7, 7, 7, for a total of 21 – which seems over scored compared to people with lower scores.

Numbers Update: Man. Tough call.Β But considering the scores are wonky and some people just have larger fanbases, I think that some combo of Melora, Christine will be in the bottom, depending on the remaining dances.

Matt is up next, talking about his mom and growing up in Raleigh. Β He’s dedicating his dance to her. His mom is so pretty. He’s dancing a….TANGO. πŸ™‚

He’s doing a credible job, mainly because Lindsay is a good pro and he’s been working hard on it. He’s definitely not a ringer, so I give him props. His feet are problematic, but other than that…

Len says it was a full on routine and calls out some footwork, but plenty of passionate and attack. Bruno says he’s over dressed. Did a good job, concentration was great, lots of content. CAI agrees with the other two, says there is a new refinement.

Scores, 7, 6, 7 for a total of 20 – I would have gone full 21.

Numbers Update: Totally forgot to include Cody in my calculations of the last numbers. He could easily be in the bottom two, I think. He’s got the low score and i don’t think most of the demo is on Peloton. I could be wrong.

The Miz up next and last? Love this dude and his enthusiasm. Are we still pretending wrestling is real? Okay.

A salsa!! Love Wit’s outfit. He adds little steps or hops, which he needs to stop doing. But he’s doing pretty well. Wit included too many of those lift/whip things. Not bad! I love him. πŸ™‚

Bruno is having a good look and lusting. CAI says he’s so fun (agreed), lifts were amazing, needs softer. Len says he has no back ground unlike others, performed to a great level. Love that shout out – a shit ton of ringers this season and those that aren’t are at a disadvantage.

Scores: 7, 7, 8 for a total of 22 – that seems a bit over scored, compared to Jimmy and a few others.

Tyra shut UP!! Jesus. The blather so fast you can barely understand her.

Final Numbers: Well, tough call. People with what I think are smaller fanbases are solidly in the middle or near the top of the pack

Amanda, Jojo, Olivia 24
Melora 23
Mel C, Miz 22
Kenya, Christine, Suni 21
Jimmy, Matt 20
Iman, Brian 19
Cody 18

I”m thinking Cody, Kenya ,Christine or Melora will be in the bottom. Long shot about Melora, since she’s in the second position. With Christine getting nearly eliminated last week, she might have rallied this week. So, that narrows it down to Cody and Kenya. Β Tough call.

Two night Disney week has a special challenge. VIP showing the moves that need to be included – it’s Mickey. Kinda silly.

Here we go with the elimination – who will be safe?

SAFE: Olivia and Val
SAFE: Jimmy and Emma
SAFE: Malora and Artem
SAFE: Jojo and Jenna
SAFE: Iman and Daniella
SAFE: Mel C and Gelb
SAFE: Brian and Sharna
SAFE: Matt and Lindsay
SAFE: Suni and Sasha
SAFE: Amanda and Alan
SAFE: Cody and Cheryl
SAFE: Miz and Witney

Called it. The lack of Derek made Tyra’s spiel work this week.

CAI saves Kenya
Bruno saves Kenya

I figured they wouldn’t go against the audience for Christine. Len kissing up saying he would save Christine. Tyra, you fucked up blathering on you just totally dissed Christine and Pasha. Get over yourself and your need to camera hog.

Dancing with the Stars Season 30 WEEK 2!! LIVE BLOG!!

Well, week 2 is shaping up to be very interesting. Poor Cheryl has tested positive for Covid. I have no idea how they’re going to handle this – not sure what the protocols are. I guess we’ll find out. For now, we’ll keep Cheryl in our prayers – she’s fully vaccinated, so she should be okay. Just scared, and I don’t blame her.

See you back here at 8 pm/7 pm central time.

And here we are with the cheesy opening that is only occasionally entertaining.

So sick of Tyra’s catwalk I can’t even tell you. Jesus, this is a dancing show and it IS NOT ABOUT HER. Jesus. Read more..

PureDWTS Season 30, Week 1 – Power Rankings

Yes, these are a bit late – and a bit different, because with my interest in the show becoming more and more casual, I’m having to find ways to keep fresh my desire to write. Β And with fifteen couples to write about, let’s just say the power rankings can be a bit daunting, until we drop down to a more reasonable 12ish couples. Seriously, DWTS: fifteen couples is about 3 too many. Β I am older now, and my brain not quite as sharp to remember all of them at the end of the night πŸ˜‰

So in watching the premiere, it became evident about midway through that we may have a repeat of season 24 on our hands: a season where nearly all of the women have more technical skill, but the men are far more entertaining to watch. That season proved that you can be the ringiest ringer in all the land (hello, Heather Morris), but if your male pro doesn’t know how to showcase your talent, and you aren’t having fun…a dude (or more than one dude) with zero formal dance experience is going to last longer in this competition than you are. Will be interesting to see if the male pros pick up on it this time around – it’s been 4.5 years since that season, and some of them have done some growing up; others…not so much.

So this time around, rather than going in circles with myself to rank the couples (when there are 15, and some are clustered together with equal levels of skill, making it hard to really rank them until we see more dances and voting results), I decided to group them by what expectations I had of them headed into the show, and how they met them: did I have high, low, or no expectations of them? And did they do better, worse, or about as well as I expected? I also picked my bottom 2/headed home picks at the bottom. Β Might stick with this format for a few weeks while we whittle down to a more manageable number of couples, might do a traditional ranking next week. Β Who knows…the world is my oyster. πŸ™‚ Read more..

Dancing with the Stars Season 30 Premiere!! LIVE BLOG!!

It’s happening tonight – we’re going to see if I still have what it takes to live blog an episode of DWTS. πŸ˜€ I’m posting this way early so everyone remembers that: a) it’s on TV tonight, and b) we are blogging. πŸ™‚ Hard for me to even remember a, at this point.

See you at 8pm eastern/7pm central time!!

Just saw a Tyra interview on ET and all she talked about was her clothes. Jesus. Nothing on the celebs, judges, pros…nobody but Tyra. People wonder why I’ve lost some interest in this show. TYRA.

Okay, it’s about that time.

The opening is showing some promise. Actual dancers and judges. Derek. Bindi. Donny. Helio, Lance, Jennifer…Nice.

OMG, an actual pro dance!! I spoke too fucking soon. Tyra’s catwalk. We get more of her than we did of the pros. Read more..

Better known as Charlie.

And the Celebrity Dancers for Season 30 Dancing with the Stars Are….

See below. πŸ™‚ The days are gone when I rearrange my life in order to announce a cast (that will almost certainly be disappointing) for a TV show which, in my opinion, is barely saved by the presence of Derek Hough. πŸ™‚ Tyra is making my viewing much closer to what it is for the Bachelor franchise – watch and mock. With wine. πŸ™‚ Anyway, here they are – mainly for your disecting pleasure. I’m sure most of you watched GMA. I’m going to post as I update, just in case I get interrupted.

I’m sorry, but this first one actually makes me want to hurl. The privilege rewarded. Ugh.

PureDWTS Season 30 Pro Roster Revealed

First of all, please forgive me – like Heidi, I am having a very, VERY hard time getting excited about anything DWTS-related right now…especially in light of some of the names I’m hearing in the mix as rumors…zzzzz…

Anywho, ET announced the 15 pros that would be returning this season:

Brandon Armstrong

Lindsay Arnold

Alan Bersten

Sharna Burgess

Cheryl Burke

Witney Carson

Artem Chigvintsev

Val Chmerkovskiy

Sasha Farber

Jenna Johnson

Daniella Karagach

Pasha Pashkov

Gleb Savchenko

Emma Slater

Britt Stewart

Noticeably absent pros from last season’s roster? Peta, whose anti-vaxxer status likely disqualified her, as ABC/Disney is mandating vaccines for most employees; and Keo, who probably had the misfortune of being too tall for this season’s crop of male-partnered female celebs…at least I hope that’s the reason…

…back after a one-season absence are Lindsay & Witney, with bebes in tow; I think they likely owe their return to Peta’s refusal to get vaccinated and JoJo’s same-sex partnership opening up an additional slot for a female pro this season. Absent those circumstances, I tend to think TPTB would have just kept the same roster as last season for the sake of ease, as both Witney & Lindsay reside permanently in Utah and had to temporarily relocate back to LA to do the show this season.

Thoughts? I don’t have a ton, other than Sharna possibly being paired with JoJo for the simple reason that she strikes me as being one of the more open-minded pros that would embrace such a challenge. Like the situation with Chaz Bono 10 years ago (a season that Chelsie curiously sat out), I think TPTB would quietly avoid saddling one of the LDS girls with a potential conflict of interest; Cheryl would probably be open to it, but last I heard she was struggling with severe tendonitis and I get the impression that JoJo is going to be an energetic and talented partner that could go far. If anyone other than Brandon or Pasha gets Sunisa, I’m going to be irked, because by my count they’re the only two who haven’t gotten an Olympian yet AND they aren’t lazy and likely to phone this season in on lame choreo (looking at YOU, Gleb).

What do you guys think?
