DWTS Season 20, Week 2 – Dancing by the Numbers

Well, DWTS Season 20 Week 2 is in the history books and it was a pretty good week. There was nothing that made me snort in disgust (from the judges, anyway) and a whole bunch of pretty darn good to great dancing.

But, as usual, someone has to go home on Monday night. Last week I was pretty clear when I said “Either Charlotte or Redfoo” and said my number 1 choice for most likely to be eliminated was Charlotte. I was pleasantly surprised to find that she was safe – most likely by 0.10 percent. No, I don’t believe Suzanne was a real bottom 2. For her to be a real bottom 2, it meant that Charlotte got nearly 10k more votes per million votes cast than her and that Redfoo did nearly that much – and there ain’t no way you’re convincing me of that. Nope. I think that’s highly unlikely.

Now, normally, I would automatically assume that Charlotte was definitely the next to go. But I’m not so sure that’s true. Why? Well, let’s look at all the scores. …Read more

I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. And I'm cynical and jaded too. But I do love DWTS. :-)

Sharna Burgess Writes On DWTS20 Week 2 And Her New Dance Coming Up With Noah Galloway

Sharna Burgess has written a new blog at Closer Weekly. She talks of the challenges putting her and Noah’s Samba together last week and her most special moment when Noah’s girlfriend surprised him on the show. She also teases on their new dance coming up for week 3 of dancing With The Stars. Be sure to see the link for more including some fun photos.

Of all the incredible moments last night, I have to say the one that got me the most was when Noah’s beautiful girlfriend, Jamie Boyd, ran up and surprised him! I had absolutely no idea and this is honestly one of the most gorgeous moments I have seen on ‘DWTS’ yet. I ended up backing away to let them have their moment and their own space. What a precious memory to have. Aren’t they the most awesome couple ever?!

Next week it’s Argentine Tango! Guess what that means… lifts! Yay! I’m already excited about what is developing creatively and I feel like seeing Noah in this character will be an awesome change from the last two weeks. We are using a prosthetic arm for this one, which will mean a lot of trial and error and seeing what can work!

Love you all and I know you are going to be so proud of Noah, just like I am.

DWTS Season 20 Suzanne Somers: “I did my best to shake it for America. Ha ha!”

Suzanne Somers has writer a new blog at People. She felt the “thrill of really dancing” this week. Read on to see why. Love her….

Once I learned the footwork, I ceased to count and began to dance. It was the first moment since I began this experience that I felt the thrill of really dancing.

I knew the camera was starting on my butt, so I did my best to shake it for America. Ha ha!

Dance costumes bear no resemblance to your typical cocktail dress. I’ve lived my life in cocktail dresses, but for dancing you want an outfit that shows off the dance. Tony actually designed my dress because he wanted all that fringe to accentuate the twisting and turning. Tony felt my spins and twists were lost in week one because I had a costume with no movement.

I was emotional for a myriad of reasons. First, I felt so good about our dance because Tony and I had worked so hard to get there – my body got a lot of bruises this week – and then to get that tremendous audience reaction made me feel overwhelmed with emotion that it’s all been worth it; that all the work I have put into my health and taking good care of myself has paid off. I never let cancer beat me, instead I used it to work for me as incentive to do all that I have had to do to achieve peak health again. So putting all those thoughts together got to me.

PureDWTS Season 20, Week 2 – Power Rankings

Pleasantly surprised this  week – not only with the scoring and the judging, but with the fact that, for the 2nd week in a row, there were no “phone-ins”: every last couple came out and gave it their all, even if it didn’t quite pan out the way they planned (sorry, Chris).  Judging seemed pretty consistent and the scores seemed to match the critiques – one would think this should happen EVERY week, but it’s becoming more and more of a rarity these days…so for tonight, I am happy :-) But that could change next week…

Somewhat sad to see Redfoo & Emma go, but I’ll just leave it at this: I think staying in the competition would have potentially been quite stressful on both of them, as I think they may have forgotten to have fun a few times in rehearsal this week.  Ultimately, though, Foo went out on a pretty high note – he was definitely the most improved from last week to this week, and he did show some serious potential…although I think he probably would have struggled just to get the votes week after week, because I just don’t see too many middle-aged, conservative-leaning housewives being huge LMFAO fans 8-)

1.) Nastia & Derek – I think Rumer & Val may have gotten a bit of a gut check after watching this dance – they ain’t the only ones who want that trophy :-) This was a great, almost technically-perfect rumba – Nastia’s got the lines and the feet and the arms and the posture and the extension.  Here’s the problem I have: she seems to have a lot of walls up, and the chemistry between she & Derek was almost non-existent.  I guess the best way I could describe her facial expressions is “girl who has never been kissed and doesn’t quite know whether to close her eyes or keep them open” :-) And another observation: I think Nastia may be an unfortunate sufferer of “resting bitch face” – I think her neutral face is just so serious and calm that it may come across as a tad standoffish…and I wish I had some advice for her on that, but some people just aren’t as smiley as others.  Maybe stand in front of a mirror and practice smiling? I dunno :-P Hoping Derek can work with her on emotional connection, because the technique is there – she just needs to get a tad more vulnerable. Read more..
