Mark Ballas and BC Jean Talk Julianne Hough and Lindsey Stirling (Video)

Sounds like the Hough-Ballas clan has a lot of other stuff going on and the odds of us seeing them ALL together again on the show are slim. Good for them! DWTS won’t last forever and you have to grow up sometime.

I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. And I'm cynical and jaded too. But I do love DWTS. :-)

Getting To Know The Real Terrell Owens On Dancing With The Stars

Entertainment Tonight has a super feature on Terrell Owens for Dancing With The Stars. Let’s just say, Terrell is hoping to show the “real” Terrell Owens on Dancing With The Stars and not the person he’s been made out to be in the press in the past. Also, did you know Terrell once won a Michael Jackson dance contest? Here is a take below, but, see this link for much much more. I know who my Dad will be rooting for…yes, Terrell and Cheryl.

“Once I realized that I had the same skill set to be able to play on the level of some of the guys around me that I saw initially were better than I was, that was an eye-opener for me,” he adds. “It’s all about believing in yourself and that desire to be something special. I didn’t realize what I could become, and that’s the same thing I’m going to apply to this dance thing. You never know what can happen.”

Owens was raised by his mother, Marilyn Owens Heard, and grandmother, Alice Black, who died from Alzheimer’s in January 2012. Though the two have re-patched their relationship in recent years, for the most part, Owens grew up without a father.

“My grandmother, she served – she was put in a position to be not only my grandmother, but my dad and my mom in a lot of ways,” Owens, who now has four kids of his own, recalls. “I think me not having a dad in the household and understanding how it affected me has really made me a better dad and a better person. I’m definitely not going to put my kids in a situation where they say that their dad wasn’t there for them.”

“I really take pride in and really respect and have taken to heart what my grandmother did for me and really raising me to be the person that I am,” he continues. “I’m not perfect by any means, but in terms of from a public standpoint, my persona, my character, is unblemished.”

And now, just days away from his debut on Dancing With the Stars, Owens tells ET that he wishes his grandma could be around today to see him shine on the dance floor… and recreate some of his iconic Michael Jackson moves!

“This is definitely a show I wish she could have seen, and one I’m sure she would have loved to have watched,” he says. “In our town, back in the ’80s and ’90s when Michael Jackson was at the height of his career, he was my childhood favorite artist. As a little kid, when breakdancing and pop-locking was in, those were some of the things I gravitated towards.”

“In our small town of Alexander City, they had a Michael Jackson dance contest, and in a small town, everybody kinda knows everybody,” he continues. “All the male cousins I had, we all entered into the contest and there were a couple of contests that were put on. We literally won first, second and third place, all three of us. So, that was kind of like my first experience really dancing in front of a big crowd… and the extent of my dancing.”

Cool New ABC Promo With DWTS Season 25 Teasers, Other Hints On The New Season

Check out the cool Dancing With The Stars Season 25 clips in this new ABC promo below. They are cool. Speaking of TV Guide, don’t miss reading an article on everything we need to know on the new season HERE. Below are a few takes that are interesting. See the link for more.

“There aren’t many celebrities with large amounts of dance experience. I think it will be one of the most competitive seasons we’ve had in a long time,” executive producer Joe Sungkur told TV Guide.

“I really think that the playing field is level,” executive producer Ashley Edens agrees.

Season 25 also has some of the best themed nights planned, from the tried and true Disney Night to a few surprises themes further down the road.

“We’re doing Disney Night at the halfway point of the season which is week five. We’re also doing A Night at the Movies,” Ashley Edens says. “Week three we are doing Guilty Pleasures, which should be a ton of fun. We’re going to learn a lot about the cast — what they love, what they hate to admit they love. We have the Trio Round, where we’re hoping to bring back a former celebrity. We’re going to potentially do an Iconic Dances Night, where our couples will repeat, reimagine, reinterpret an iconic dance from earlier seasons.”

And what is Sasha up to for a future project?

Meanwhile, Sasha Farber is making the opposite move, moving from pro to the troupe so that he can focus on another future project.

Here’s that new ABC promo…

Lindsey Stirling Interviewed On Dancing With The Stars And Her New Christmas Album

After doing “America’s Got Talent”, Lindsey Stirling didn’t think she’d ever do another talent show. Though after being a guest performer on Dancing With The Stars, she felt it had a “family environment”. She’s already made some great new friends too. Below is more from Billboard including how she hopes being a musician might help her in the competition. However, she’s terrified to take the stage for the first time (don’t be scared Lindsey! You can do this!)….

Stirling has already found friends among her competitors in singer-songwriter Jordan Fisher, of Hamilton and Grease: Live, and Drew Scott, one-half of HGTV duo The Property Brothers. And she says her rehearsals with professional dance partner Mark Ballas have been filled with just as many challenges as laughs: “You can make fun of me if you want, but I’m trying to learn this ballroom walk,” Stirling explains, “and it just turns into laughing.

Stirling thinks her musicianship might give her a leg-up in the competition, noting that skills as simple as an understanding of technical terms in music can help competitors learn ballroom moves faster. And though Stirling is mostly self-trained in dance, the artist is known for her vibrant stage presence. “I may not be a trained dancer, but I know how to put passion behind movement,” Stirling adds. “As [Ballas] keeps saying, ‘You’re very brave. You just throw your body, and then you think about where it’s going.'”

Lindsey admits she’s “terrified” to take the stage for her first dance with Ballas, but says she couldn’t pass up the chance to experiment with a new art form. “This is such a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to not only invest yourself fully into something like ballroom when that’s not your profession, but also to be taught by some of the best people in the world,” she says.

While rehearsals for the competition are taking up most of Stirling’s schedule, the rest is dominated by preparations for her upcoming holiday album, Warmer in the Winter, which drops Oct. 20 ahead of her Christmas tour. The album has been a longtime goal for Stirling, who says a Christmas album allows artists to experiment with “big-band” sounds.

More at Billboard including information on her new Christmas single, album, and tour schedule. I love this girl!

Producers Comment On 25 Seasons Of Dancing With The Stars And It’s Future

It’s hard to believe that Dancing With The Stars has had the run it’s had for 25 seasons. Producers credit Tom Bergeron, the chemistry of the judges, and the casting for it’s popularity. They intend to raise the bar even higher this season and find new ways to build the brand, etc. Here is more from Variety….

The casting has therefore become key to “Dancing.” It is the ever-evolving group of celebrities who go on aspirational journeys and learn new skills that not only wipes the slate clean each season, offering fresh challenges for the producers and the professional dancers, but also allows the audience to connect with the show on a deeper level.

“It’s people’s backstories — people’s lives — that drive a lot of interest, and we take a lot of time and care to think about who has an interesting story that people can relate to,” Forde says.

The casting also allows the show to “cater to all four quadrants” of an audience, notes Mills. While in the early days the series booked a lot of nostalgic stars from golden age TV and sports, “of the moment” favorites and those who have unique human interest stories began to take precedence in more recent seasons. That variety of talent allows the show to be “shared generationally,” which is important to its longevity.

“We’ve always strived to be the type of show that the entire family can sit down and watch together, and to be a positive influence on a Monday night,” Edens says.

“Dancing” also consistently pushes boundaries when it comes to style and size of its weekly performances.

“Our team makes sure these performances can stand alongside performances you see on award shows so we can stay competitive and keep pushing ourselves,” Sungkar says.

While expectations for “Dancing” have already been exceeded, the team behind the show is clearly ready to raise the bar even higher. “It’s constant reinvention, creativity, and all of that,” Forde says. “Now it’s about building the brand around the show and building activity around the brand 52 weeks a year, finding new ways to continue to bring it to the audience that loves it.”

I can’t wait to see what the decide to do now and in the future. To read even more, see Variety.

DWTS Alan Bersten Interviewed On Debbie Gibson, Becoming A New Pro, And More

In a new interview with Entertainment Tonight, new pro Alan Bersten talks of his new partner Debbie Gibson and everything she’s been through including Lyme Disease most recently. Because of it, they’ve had to tread carefully in rehearsals for Dancing With The Stars. Below is more, but, be sure to see the link as he talks of what it feels like becoming a new Pro this season.

“Debbie has been through Lyme disease, so she’s on the recovery, health wise, and to me it’s just inspirational that she even signed up for the show,” said Bersten, who was previously a member of the ABC reality competition’s dance troupe and has been promoted to a professional competitor for season 25. “It’s one thing to heal from a disease like Lyme disease, where it’s excruciating on your body, but another thing to do it on live television, so it’s very inspirational that she’s even trying to do this. She’s inspiring me — and hopefully Americans who are going to be watching — to get up and really try to get back to the good place in your life.”

Since being diagnosed four years ago, Gibson has been fighting the bacterial infection, which is primarily transmitted by deer ticks and can cause flu-like symptoms, rashes, joint and muscle pain and limb weakness. The illness can cause major debilitation and is frequently misdiagnosed.

Bersten shared that her illness means the pair have had to tread carefully when it comes to rehearsals for the show, “so she doesn’t get injured [or hurt] her muscles,” he said. “She has a physician with her, who works on her whenever she feels pain. But we can’t rehearse for four hours a day every day, so we have to work smarter instead of harder.”

While challenging, Bersten said he “thinks every challenge comes with a reward and hopefully we’ll have a nice reward on Monday!”

Despite the added hurdles the pair are facing in the competition, Bersten noted how Gibson has remained upbeat, energetic and positive.

“She is literally the most joyful person to be around,” he gushed. “When we’re rehearsing, it just flies by because we’ve had so much fun. She’s been having concerts for these past few days, so we don’t have much time for rehearsals though.”
