In eleven days, Dancing With The Stars Cody Simpson will be releasing a new single called “Surfboard”. Below you can hear a sneak peek. I’m kind of curious if we might not see and hear this song performed on Dancing With The Stars at some point this season? Anyway, below is a sneak peek. Also included below is a new rehearsal picture of Cody and his partner Witney Carson.
Good news for former Dancing With The Stars co-host Brooke Burke Charvet! She’s landed a part for two episodes on ABC Family’s hit sitcom “Melissa & Joey”! here is more from People.
Burke-Charvet has landed her first role after leaving Dancing With the Stars as a cohost, joining ABC Family’s hit sitcom Melissa & Joey, E! News has confirmed.
And it will be a DWTS reunion of sorts as both Melissa Joan Hart (season nine) and Joey Lawrence (season three) have competed on the ABC reality dancing competition.
In her two-episode arc, Burke-Charvet, a former DWTS champ, will take on the role of Felicia, Joe’s ex who will stir up trouble in his relationship with Mel.
Burke-Charvet’s episodes of the ABC Family sitcom will air June 4 and June 11.
The paparazzi photos of the cast arriving to rehearsals are starting to come out. If you head to the Daily Mail here and here, you can see Cody Simpson, Witney Carson, Danica McKellar, Val Chmerkovskiy, Diane Nyad, Karina Smirnoff, Henry Byalikov, Mark Ballas, James Maslow, Billy Dee Williams and Emma Slater. Just Jared Jr has some photos too which include Peta Murgatroyd at this link. I love all th smiles we’re seeing.
Also, People.com has a fun new Dancing With The Stars gallery up of the celebrities with quotes from either them or their partners which is fun to check out too when you get time.
New Interview With Meryl Davis, Charlie White, Sharna Burgess and Maks Chmerkovskiy, ABC To Air Ice Skating Specials
The Ice Network has a cool article up about Meryl Davis and Charlie White dancing on Dancing With The Stars. The article features interviews with them and their dance partners Sharna Burgess and Maks Chmerkovskiy. Below is a take about their goals and what it’s been like working with each other so far. Note how they’ve been rehearsing in Michigan since Meryl and Charlie are also getting ready to tour for “Stars On Ice“.
“The goal wasn’t to prove anything to anybody or try and outdo myself,” Chmerkovskiy said. I’m just doing my thing. I’m coming in, I’m dancing, I’m teaching. I wanted my mom and my grandma to enjoy me being back on TV one more time.
“It really is fascinating to work with Meryl,” he added. “I’m not stressing out about anything. I’m not worrying about anything. I’m just enjoying her company; she’s a cool chick.”
White, 26, will be dancing with Sharna Burgess, 28, who is bubbling with enthusiasm about the possibilities this season presents. Their first dance will be contemporary.
After working together for just a few hours, White has already taught her a new lift that they’ll use at the end of their routine.
“Charlie is absolutely wonderful; he has such beautiful lines,” Burgess said. “For me, it’s so amazing to be this creative, to have so much freedom in the steps and the choreography that I want to do. He’s wonderful to talk to about my concepts and the characters because I dived straight into that, and he seems to love it.”
She asked him to listen to the song to which they’ll perform and asked his thoughts on the story line. White’s response mirrored Burgess’ ideas. At the start of each season, teams are allowed to submit wish lists for music. White and Burgess prepared their lists separately, but when they compared notes, found a lot of similarity.
After the cast announcement Tuesday, both teams headed to Michigan to train. Davis and White are also preparing for the upcoming Stars on Ice tour. Their partners will accompany them on the road and train between shows.
Lot’s more at Ice Network. Thanks to Dominique for the heads up!!
In other things with Meryl and Charlie….according to Entertainment Weekly, ABC has announced a deal with Disson Skating to air a series of four 2-hour figure skating specials which will star Meryl and Charlie. The first two specials will air in the fall of 2014. What an exciting year for them and it’s so cool how Dancing With The Stars is a part of it all.
Nene Leakes was a guest on Jimmy Kimmel Live last night. She talked all about Dancing With The Stars and what she’ll bring to the show. She’s hopes to bring lots of personality, soul, and energy. So far, she and partner Tony Dovolani have been rehearsing for 4 hours a day. She also talks on the Switch dance and how she thinks she might get Maks. Also, did you know she use to be an exotic dancer? More below including a size up on the cast (not sure I liked this part….especially for what she said on Meryl and Charlie)….

THE CAST WILL BE READY, THE BALLROOM WILL GLOW!
BREAK OPEN THE BUBBLY AND IT IS ON WITH. THE SHOW!
Several of you have been discussing the new segment on Good Morning America with Derek Hough and his new Dancing With The Stars partner Amy Purdy. Her story is remarkable. You can also see them rehearsing together. They are so cute….
Be sure to visit Pure Derek Hough for more updates as well as viewing the full “Raising A Champion” video that you see a part of in the Good Morning America segment above.
According to Producer Conrad Green via Hollywood Reporter, the “Switch Up” dance will take place halfway through the season of Dancing With The Stars. He also says the casting is getting more difficult with each season. Below is more including his thoughts on why they decided to make the changes they did. Be sure to read more at the link!
“The practical reality is that we have to keep engaging with a younger audience as well as our substantial older one,” says executive producer Conrad Green. “Obviously life would be easier for us if we were only judged on the sheer scale of our audience.”
The play for younger viewers, which saw veteran co-host Brooke Burke-Charvet and longtime bandleader Harold Wheeler axed, hasn’t been without strife. The American Federation of Musicians president Ray Hair blasted the decision by ABC and producer BBC Worldwide to drop Wheeler and his 28-member orchestra, describing it as “artistic fraud.” The new, smaller band led by Ray Chew will be more focused on current hits — prerecording the more produced elements in lieu of using costly master tracks. “This was a creative decision to increase the amount of live music on the show,” says Green, who maintains Dancing still will emphasize the band. “The way the union responded on this, without ever talking to us, was pretty poor.”
Green admits each season becomes more difficult to cast (Winter Olympians Charlie White and Meryl Davis, reality star NeNe Leakes and NHL alum Sean Avery headline season 18). He says new interactive elements are the real draw. Voters will have final say in eliminations, and pairings briefly will be switched halfway. Also, fan favorite Maksim Chmerkovskiy will return after quitting in 2012. Says Green: “Our viewers want to see him competing again.”
ETA: According to some new cast interviews with E Online, the Switch Up dance will take place in week 3!! Thanks to Kaitlyn for letting us know. More HERE!!
EAT2: You can read more of what the pros think of the Switch up dance at Today. Below is a take…
“I don’t know how it’s going to be,” Maksim Chmerkovskiy, who’s returning to the show after a two-season break from the competition, told TODAY. “They’ve tried explaining it to us four times. There was a lot of confusion. It’ll be a little awkward if I get paired up with someone who loves me, but (my partner) Meryl (Davis, the Olympic ice skating champ) wants to stay with me, too.”
“Normally, I don’t mind change,” said Tony Dovolani, who’s paired with “Real Housewives of Atlanta” star NeNe Leakes. “But changing partners is raising my eyebrows. I don’t like sharing my women! I grow them into the partners that I want them to be, and … halfway through the season there will be a switcheroo? You can feel cheated.”
Changing partners can also potentially affect the progress that stars make under their assigned pro.
“You build a relationship with your partner,” offered Sharna Burgess, who’s paired with Davis’ Olympic partner, Charlie White. “You develop your own language, and you learn how to work with each other. The odds of someone moving to another person with (equal success) are unlikely.”
Gleb Savchenko and Tristan MacManus are such class acts! Even though they aren’t doing the new season of Dancing With Stars, they had nothing but kind things to say. Gleb wished everyone the best at his twitter saying, “I’m wishing all the cast and crew @DancingABC great success with Season18. Have fun! #DWTS18.” He also tweeted, “Thank you guys for your support, but make sure all watch @DancingABC and vote vote vote!!!” As for Tristan, he has no hard feelings and he’s looking forward to the “next chapter”. Here is a take from MacManiacs.Org. Thanks to Eileen for sending us Tristan’s message.
The reasons I don’t know and never will but either way it doesn’t change a thing. You are in or you are out and it’s as simple as that. I can’t complain as every season that I have been included somebody else has missed out, so I wish everyone involved all the best of luck in the world. I have enjoyed my time on DWTS but I do think that this is the best thing for me. I sometimes need the kick up the arse to get what I really want to do done, and as always that will come when it comes, and you will know about it then. For now it’s a case of just making it happen. I have had three years on DWTS now and I am looking forward to the next chapter. The show didn’t end the way I would have wanted it to for me, but I was very lucky to be a part of the show at all.
Again, thank you all for the concern but honest to God I am grand, everything is great, and there will be no looking back for me. The missus is great, the dog is great, I’m great, and I’m straight back to teaching now anyway, just not on your tv. It just means that I can savage through St. Paddy’s day without worrying about working that day. Haha.”
Oh, I am going to miss these two. Let’s hope they are back for the next season of Dancing With The Stars. In the meantime, let’s hope they make special appearances and dance in Ballroom With A Twist. Also, Tristan, as of right now, is scheduled to do the Holland America Cruises this year. Gleb and his wife are also helping with So You Think You Can Dance In Australia. Gleb will also be helping LA Ballroom. Note, and as previously reported, he will be teaching a Master Class there on April, 11th.
Much love and luck, Gleb and Tristan!!!xx We are going to miss you!! Show them some support and love in comments, All!! Know too that we will keep you updated on them both as they are much loved and fan favorites.
Below is a new ABC Dancing With The Stars promo from the official site. It makes one even more curious for how they will do the “Switch” partners thing?
ETA: As said in the Press Interview post, pay special attention to Sharna and what she says on the “Switch” dance in the On The Red Carpet interview which we added below. I was trying to keep an open mind. Not sure I like this now?
