DWTS 9 – The Last of the Week 4 Media

At least it is if I have anything to say about it. 🙂 First is E! News which had a very short piece on Aaron, Maks and Karina – mainly the backstage cat fighting which I’m finding more entertaining than the actual dancing. Or at least up to this week it was more entertaining. The show seems to be improving like I hoped it would once we got down to a smaller number of dancers. Anyway, Maks took a shot of his own – it was very subtle, which was why I loved it. He tweeted that the energy on the show ought to be good this week (since he’s possibly dancing with Joanna and will therefore be back on set). 🙂 You go, dude. 😉

Access Hollywood has a long bit on DWTS – the first part is a rehash of LaToya fawning over Derek’s abs, but the second and third parts are new. Wait for the second part – they say something very interesting and claim that Paula Abdul said it. Very interesting in light of recent discussions around here. The third part is a day in the dancing life of Kelly Osbourne – which just made me love her even more. 🙂

Dancing with the Stars Season 9 – Miscellaneous Media from Week 4

Several of the entertainment shows had DWTS stories that I’ve not previously posted – I’m sure I’ll have more tomorrow too. It never ends. 🙂 Latest on Derek for those not following on Twitter – Joanna says that Derek wants to dance on Monday, but it’s still very much up in the air, because he’s still sick. I personally think he should take the day off and rest, but he is 24 and male, so what are the odds he’ll listen to me? 😉

E! News from Wednesday, October 14, 2009. There is a second E! News Video at Pure Derek Hough.

Entertainment Tonight pimping Donny Osmond (again), and he talks about his broken toe. Also Mya and Dmitry.

Extra from October 15, 2009 – Randall Christensen, Chuck Liddell, Joanna Krupa, Derek Hough and Michael Irvin:

Extra from 10-13-09 – Donny Osmond again, plus others.

Dancing with the Stars Season 9 – Week 4 News and Other Media

My favorite pro is very sick. 🙁 He tweeted this morning that his whole body hurt and he had chills and sweats and that he could barely stand up. Joanna is rehearsing tonight with Maks, which would be my pro of choice if Derek had to sit out for a few days. Anyway, according to Joanna and her manager, Derek has a 104 degree fever and has been to the doctor. Hopefully he was given Tamiflu and he’ll be back shortly. Hopefully VERY shortly. Much as I like Maks, Derek’s my boy. For anyone who might have forgotten that fact. 🙂

Derek and Joanna’s Lambada is one of TV’s Top 5 on AOL. Cool.

In the past I have been known to double post media here and at PureDerekHough – tonight I am very, very lazy and I’m just giving you several PDH links to LOTS of video which has Derek/Joanna content, but also has Donny, Melissa, Kelly and others.

Derek Hough and Joanna Krupa Interview Videos

This post has several print articles – I’ve quote the portions relevant to Derek, but links are included so you can read the whole articles, which are DWTS related.

The entertainment shows from Tuesday.

From MercuryNews.com:

Chuck Liddell lays into ‘Dancing With the Stars’ judges: ‘Screw those guys’

Former Ultimate Fighting champ Chuck Liddell isn’t pleased with the professional judges who helped give him the boot from “Dancing With the Stars”.

“Screw those guys,” he said. “They don’t know what they’re talking about half the time, anyway.”

While Liddell was ousted from the popular prime time show he simultaneously heard good news about his next gig — a role in an upcoming Mickey Rourke film.

“It’s a bigger movie,” Liddell said, adding that it was too early to reveal many details, but noting that the film had a strong cast.

Amid a flood of text messages from friends and family, Liddell spoke Wednesday about his experiences by telephone from Los Angeles, where he had been learning to dance since August. He survived into the fourth week of the show. But after he performed a two-step dance with partner Anna Trebunskaya on Monday night, the judges gave Liddell a low score of 17 out of 30 points. He was eliminated on Tuesday’s show.

Louie on TV.com – click the link to see Mark D., Natalie, and Joanna.

Oh Louis. I can see your point, but this isn’t a new issue. ABC Local LAhas a bunch of vids, click the link. I’ve put Kelly’s below cause I lurve her. 🙂

I think that’s all for now. I’ll have more tomorrow. 🙂

DWTS Season 9 Ringers

According to Wikipedia:

ringer – Horse racing: An impostor, especially one who misrepresents his or her identity or ability in order to gain an advantage in a competition. Originally used in horse racing, when a fast horse was substituted for a slower one that it resembled (a “ring-in”), the term now applies to any athlete entered in a competition under false pretenses

So for this post we are going to substitute dancer for athlete. And it isn’t so much “false pretenses” but the fact that they have more dancing experience or a more devoted fanbase than the other celebrities. It seems we have quite a few ringers this season. You might not agree with my opinions on this and that’s cool because it would really boring if we all liked the same celebrity and the competition would non-existent.

Mya

Mya Marie Harrison (born October 10, 1979), professionally known mononymously as Mya, is an American R&B singer-songwriter, record producer, actress, dancer, and choreographer.

I pulled the above DIRECTLY from Wikipedia. Yes, she is a wonderful dancer. BUT she should be…she‘s a ringer!! She has had lots of experience. She was in ‘Chicago‘, ‘Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights‘, and ‘Shall We Dance?’.  And what was with the romance thing…she needed rose petals and candlelight to learn a dance routine (the rumba)? I will give you that Shawn and Mark did a similar thing with the prom thing last season. Maybe it’s because I’m biased (and it probably is) but Shawn and Mark’s didn’t feel quite as hokey to me. And I believe she said she helped Dmitry with the choreography on the Lambada. RINGER! I think Len agrees that she is a ringer and that’s why he has been so tough on her.

Donny Osmond

Donny is a ringer mostly because of his fan base although he is a very experienced performer. There is a rumor that he has been taking lessons for a year before starting on DWTS. And it’s kinda true(from Yahoo News)…

And as it turns out, Donny may have an unfair advantage over the competition this season, as a source has told Access that Donny has been using a dance coach in Utah for the past year.
“Rumor has it that you’ve been rehearsing for a year with a private trainer in Utah. Is that true?” La Toya asked him on Tuesday night.
“No, that’s not true,” Donny initially replied.
However, the Osmond brother then changed his tune about his ballroom background.
“I will clarify because I have been taking dancing lessons to learn ballroom for the dances that we do in Vegas,” he continued, referring to his Las Vegas show with sister Marie, who previously competed on the show. “That’s part of the choreography, but it’s a whole different thing than what we’re doing here.”

Does that count? I personally think so! It definitely makes him a ringer!

Aaron Carter

Okay…I’m gonna be honest. I have a special place in my heart for Aaron Carter but it’s because he is Nick Carter’s little brother. In high school I was a HUGE Backstreet Boys fan and my little sister forced me to a Aaron Carter concert (she got to meet him…he was like 11!)  But…Aaron’s a ringer. He has the dance and entertainment experience. Not as much as Donny and Mya but he’s been on stage for most of his life. He also has what I’m going to call the “Steve-O effect.” We know he has had some trouble with the party lifestyle (drugs, alcohol, and the such) and like someone (I’m sorry I can’t remember who or where) said earlier that can translate to votes. I don’t know about his fan base. In a previous post’s comments section there was some argument that Aaron wouldn’t get votes. I argued that Backstreet Boy fans would vote but a few people disagreed. They said he was rude and unlikable. I still disagree. I think he’s mischievous and a little immature but a good dancer…although he’s had a couple of bad weeks. Either way…he’s a ringer.

Okay…these are my picks for ringers. Do you agree? Is there someone I missed? It’s very possible…there are too many celebrities to remember them all. 🙂 Feel free to tell me what you think…unless you disagree! Just kidding! Can’t wait to hear from you!

Dancing with the Stars 9 Week 4 Power Rankings

I have an annoucement to make.

Heidi is indisposed at the moment…she fainted (and subsequently hit her head) because Derek TOOK OFF HIS SHIRT.  ALL THE WAY OFF, PEOPLE!  And while my reaction may not have been as strong as Heidi’s, I will admit – it was nice to see a guy with his shirt completely off instead of hanging open or unbuttoned, as if to tease the female viewers (shame on them).  Been jonesin’ for that since Gilles’ paso last season…

…but I digress.  I dub tonight’s show as the “Lipstick Mark” show due to the fact that almost everyone felt compelled to leave their mark on their partner (sometimes more than once…I love you to bits, Louis Van  🙂 ) Tonight was such a mixed bag, with 4 new dances, so it was hard to really make any other generalizations other than the lipstick marks.  Sorry 🙂 But I will say that those who got the lambada or the Charleston definitely had an advantage over those that got the 2-step or bolero…and let’s just say those that got bolero got ROYALLY screwed…

1.) Joanna & Derek – Derek may have singlehandedly shot himself (and Joanna, of course) to the top in viewer votes when he doffed his shirt.  But even if he hadn’t – that routine would have been commotion enough!  This is the routine that the hens in my office will be aflutter about tomorrow. The steps and execution of the lambada were good (if not a bit repetitive), but this week they brought the chemistry (man oh man! 😀 ) that I have had yet to really feel from these two…definitely the sexiest dance of the night.  Heidi, you were definitely onto something when you said that Joanna really had an advantage in having Derek – because right now, it’s his overall likeability, innovative (and lusty!) choreography, and penchant for taking his clothes off that is probably keeping Joanna on right now.  Let’s face it: Joanna is good, and pretty, but not so much well-known…but sex sells, people.  SEX SELLS!

2.) Mya & Dmitry – I know, I know…everyone thinks Mya & Dmitry are boring.  But tonight I feel as though they had a breakthrough…I definitely felt the heat from Mya.  However, I think I’ve figured out where the disconnect happens in their chemistry – Dmitry.  I was getting all sorts of vibes off of Mya tonight, and almost none from him.  For me, he’s basically out there just doing choreography and showcasing Mya – which is what he’s supposed to do, but at least put some feeling into it! I have to say – Mya felt the most “authentic” to me in the lambada – I could totally picture her in a seedy nightclub in Rio, grinding away and dripping with sweat. Anyway, these two tied for the top spot, and got the coveted “money spot” (the last dance of the evening) – and they were oily.  REEEAAALLLLY oily.  I think the light reflecting off of Mya’s legs was supposed to inspire the viewers to vote…and they might, but even if they didn’t, I think their scores alone could carry them through.

3.) Donny & Kym – I almost feel like it’s pointless to really try and rate Donny on his dancing, because no matter what he does, I think he more or less has a first class seat straight to the finale…UGH.  Ok, I will admit that their Charleston was technically pretty good – Donny seemed to keep up with the intricate hand and foot work, and seemed to carry off the character of the waiter well (surprise, surprise). But – and there is a but (anyone catch the SYTYCD reference? 😉 ) – he did fall out of step at one point, and got called out for it.  So maybe the coddling from the judges is about to wear off and they’re going to start being harder on him…then again, his rabid female baby boomer fanbase will probably just rally that much harder to keep up his vote percentage up.  I could go on and on about things that I didn’t like about Donny tonight (or any night, really)…but there really is no point…he’s staying around for a long time…phooey. 🙁

4.) Melissa & Mark – I am pleased as punch with Melissa tonight…she finally brought both the energy and the enthusiasm we all have been waiting for! I think she definitely had an advantage in having the Charleston, as Mark seems to really thrive in high-energy, goofy choreography.  They tied for the highest score, and I have a feeling they might get the encore tomorrow night (sorry Heidi, while I too would enjoy an encore of Derek & Joanna’s lambada, I have a feeling the FCC might veto that! haha 😉 ) The black and white during the beginning was fun (and memorable!), as was Mark’s mustache (as smarmy as it made him look).  They may have had a bit of a disadvantage in going so early in the show, but nevertheless, I don’t see these two going anywhere this week…

5.) Kelly & Louis – I adddoooorrrreeee these two.  So cute together – but rather than a romantic chemistry, it’s really more of a brother-sister chemistry, which is cute nonetheless 😉 While Kelly’s Charleston was not as high-energy as Melissa’s or crisp as Donny’s, she brought her own brand of sass to it, which always seems to work in her favor.  And Louis with that dreadful makeup…ai ai ai.  I can’t decide which was worse tonight – Louis’ makeup or Mark’s mustache. But people will remember it! Plus these two are just so doggone likeable even when they aren’t the center of attention (anyone else catch those two goofing off in the background while someone got their scores? 😉 ), that they’ll probably coast through this week and several more, because they seem to have the voters wrapped around their jazzy little Fosse fingers 😀

6.) Mark & Lacey – I’m starting to see glimmers of stage presence from Mark, and little bits of the wild Lacey choreography I love.  I think he seemed to take to the “swagger” of a cowboy fairly well, which made him more entertaining to watch.  And I have to give Lacey props – this was the most authentic, well-choreographed 2-step of the evening…not only that, but Mark seemed to keep up with it and do more than just walk around the room spinning the girl (although honestly…that’s pretty much all guys do in 2-step :-/).  Still not super memorable for me, but a dramatic improvement from last week (and prior weeks).  And they did pull out their highest score thus far…

7. ) Aaron & Karina – Oy. I think Aaron may be giving Donny a run for his money with the dramatic displays he’s pulling…except he doesn’t have as big a fanbase to keep him in.  This is the first week that Aaron has really been “off-putting” to me – I thought his crying over the rumba scores was over-the-top (only girls are allowed to cry on DWTS! DUH! 😉 ) and his overall “work, work, work” demeanor came across as stubborn and a bit whiney.  Their lambada wasn’t terrible – it just wasn’t great, or particularly memorable.  Not a whole lotta content – just Karina spinning and a bunch of tricks (although I will say that his tumbling pass in the opening was flawless…and it should be, for as big a deal as he made about it!).  I can definitely see him losing some votes this week due to last week’s meltdown, but then again, the opposite could happen – he could become memorable because of his dramatics. Guess it depends on whether his “off-putting” outweighs his charm or not…

8.) Natalie & Alec – May as well call this one rumba redux – felt like a recycled version of their rumba last week, just without the sheet and with a lot more glitter.  In her defense (and Alec’s as well), bolero was definitely the hardest of the 4 new dances, and I think having to do it the week after you did the rumba makes it hard for you to be memorable, as they are often so similar in timing and footwork (at least when done by amateurs), they’re nary indistinguishable.  I felt maybe a tad more chemistry between them (just a tad), but it was a valiant effort – Natalie has great legs, and moves beautifully.  And she’s still sweet as pie, even when she’s “frustrated” with Alec, and she did tie for the 3rd higest score of the night…the question is: will her smile and scores get her the votes?

10.) Louie & Chelsie – The only reason these two aren’t in my “danger zone” is that I think they may be able to ride the coattails of this whole “showmance” thing for a little while longer.  People are still abuzz about the rumba, and Chelsie tweeted some awfully chummy pix of the two of them at Disneyland over the weekend.  And if I were them, I would milk that for all its worth – cause this 2-step was pretty underwhelming, at least on Louie’s part.  Granted, Louie is good at doing tricks, and he always seems to stay on time and can actually keep his hands straight while spinning Chelsie (which is all this really was, anyway).  But he’s really starting to feel a bit “blah” to me in terms of showmanship…he just grins and walks through the dance.  And he definitely doesn’t have the mainstream fanbase of Donny or Melissa, or the judges’ scores in his favor – he’s basically slipping through on cuteness and showmanceyness (yah, I just said that) alone.  So Louie & Chelsie, if you happen to read this – SHOW-MANCE.  I don’t care if you hate each other – get caught walking hand-in-hand at the Grove, or kissing while sharing a milkshake, or something else cute and couple-y for people to talk about – it’s your only hope!!!

11.) Chuck & Anna – Oh Chuck, you big loveable teddy bear.  You can’t really dance for beans, but you’re just so darn huggable that I don’t even care.  Let’s face it: there’s not much to be said technically here: not a lot of content, mainly just Anna spinning around…probably the least authentic 2-step of the evening.  But I stand by my belief that Chuck would totally rock at doing lifts – didn’t even break a sweat.  The fluidity with which he hurled Anna up onto his shoulder…magnificent.  But I fear their days are numbered, and likeability will only trump bad dancing for so long (unless you’re an Osmond…*cough cough*).  So glad we got to see him do lifts, though! 🙂

12.) Michael & Anna – No surprises here.  Although I do find it a bit funny that they got the hardest dance…almost as if production was trying to engineer who went home…hmmm…but anyway.  All this was was some flaily arms and some faux sexy times (which was really just kinda icky…although not as icky as Donny & Kym).  Just Anna doing the occasional dip and Michael trying in vain to look romantic. Epic fail.  I think the “I stink but I’m fun!” train has just run out of steam for these two…they already had one foot out the door last week.  And Anna was really a letdown for me this season – she was brilliant in the pro competition, and nothing on the actual show.  *sigh* I was really waiting for her to hit her groove…

So long, Michael & Anna…it’s been fun, but fun can only take you so far in this competition.  So now let’s hear what you guys think…feel free to agree or disagree, all opinions are welcome! And while you’re at it, someone might want to send Heidi some e-smelling salts…I hear she’s still passed out from tonight’s show 😉

Dancing with the Stars 9 Week 3 Media

Lots of Media, with a bit of variety too!! Well, only a little. First up, E! News from last Monday:

E! News on the eliminated couples, Melissa Jaret Winokur as the correspondent:

Chuck Liddell on Entertainment Tonight

The fallout from Aaron being a bonehead, on Extra!! Dmitry – still not good on the communication front.

More from Extra – Ashley Hamilton is the special correspondent. Paula Abdul is weird. Watch for Derek holding her in place at one point, and keep an eye on Debi Mazar’s face in the background. 🙂

Extra again – Heh, Derek says “dry humping”.

The Insider – this show has a new, panel format that I think I kinda like. Mainly because of this segment – I don’t agree with the guy who is arguing for an age limit, but I like how he seems to “win” his argument. :::crickets:::

DWTS 9 Week 2 – The Last of the Media

Aaron and Karina have found a rather successful way to knock out the Donny publicity machine. I don’t know whether to be amused or disturbed. 🙂 I have to say that I agree with those who have been saying there are too many couples such that it’s hard to focus – and it’s just not exciting. I’m getting a tad bored. I mean, no ones even talking about dancing. They’re talking about injuries (Lacey, Debi and Tom’s), supposed romances – Aaron and Chelsie or Aaron and Karina?? Right. Showmance for publicity? Beats me. :::yawn:::

Anyway, first up is EXTRA on Debi’s and Tom’s injuries, and Carrie Ann Innaba’s predictions for the season.

I totally agree with Samantha’s face when asked about Jon Gosslin on DWTS. Are you KIDDING ME??? Is this what we’re talking about? Watch this video to see Derek’s reaction to a Jon Gosslin question – hilarious. His response is as it should be. The video below is from the Insider – Sam Cam makes an appearance. Melissa – glorifying bad behavior?? Do you know how many of your costars have arrest records?? Like, SEVEN. LOL. Like I said in a previous post – stop talking, your foot keeps going into your mouth. 🙂

Extra again – Kelly Osbourne was pretty upset after her last dance. Steve O as special correspondent.

Mark Dacascos and his wife talk to EXTRA:

Selena Gomez on DWTS, and Kathy gets the boot. Chelsie “rejects” Aaron Carter. Shawn Johnson is the Special Correspondent for E! News:

Week 2 Edition: THE GOOD, THE BAD, and THE INCREDIBLY HOT!

I don’t know about anyone else, but I felt like things were very off this week. The costumes were all over the place….Lacey and her one strap of faux fur, Tony and Kathy not even matching with red and purple, Chelsie’s jean jacket with a green studded bra and a red skirt, Aaron’s green ensemble, Melissa and Mark I don’t even have words for!. However, I LOVED Derek and Joanna’s black/motorcycle get up, Louis’s tee with a over sized black jacket, Mya’s amazing tasseled dress, Anna T’s black costume which was a play off one of Karina’s costumes from last season.

THE GOOD
Holy Smokes Aaron Carter! I knew he could dance but this was so entertaining! His technique was above par and the muppets was a nice touch!

THE BAD
Oh Kathy…she is so beautiful and elegant but not very rhythmic. She never found that connection with Toni and she never grasped onto the concept of what each dance should in tale.

THE INCREDIBLY HOT
Donny Osmond, hands down, had the best routine of the night! Kym really knows how to choreography a piece that is going to WOW the audience and still be technically up to par!

“Dancing” Athletes Grace the Stage (and other Media)

This one seems to stop abruptly for me, but I thought it was cool.

Access Hollywood with Aaron, Karina, Donny and Kym, and Ashley and Edyta:

Excerpts from People Online – Monday’s DWTS: What You Didn’t See:

Buff Daddy: While most people drop weight on Dancing, pro Tony Dovolani has been packing on the pounds — nearly 20 — since the end of season 8 in May. Dovolani, whose twins turned one earlier this month, tells PEOPLE he’s in training for a role in the upcoming independent film Pumping Up. Shooting stars in December and Dovolani has been working out every day. “I eat like a horse, five or six times a day, and I drink protein shakes, I eat protein bars,” he says. “Right now I’m 192. Usually I’m at 175.” In the movie, Dovolani plays “a character getting ready for a bodybuilding competition. He’s an Italian guy from Queens.”

Scaredy Cats: The show’s opening number was quite the grand entrance as the eight male pros descended from the ceiling on scaffolding. “I was scared wreckless,” Alec Mazo confesses. Even tough guy Maksim Chmerkovskiy couldn’t wait to get his feet firmly on the ground. “I did not like that at all, and Mark [Ballas] was shaking and rocking the [scaffolding],” Chmerkovskiy says. “I am so glad that is over. Never again.”

Excerpts from People Online – Tuesday’s DWTS: What You didn’t See:

Snack Attack: Since it was ladies’ night on the dance floor, the men were able to relax and watch the show. Sitting side-by-side, snowboarder Louis Vito and football pro Michael Irvin shared a bag of gummy worms. Even former politician Tom DeLay was spotted dropping a worm into his mouth. At one point, all the guys were munching on something. “Candy, gummy worms and peanut M&Ms, and cookies and Altoids,” says Vito of his evening snacks. “It’s like watching a movie. How can you watch a movie without something to eat?”

Say What?: The Grammy-award winning singer Macy Gray had everyone on their toes, even the producers. After her first turn on the dance floor, Gray was asked how she felt. “I feel like I just busted my cherry.” While viewers struggled to figure out what she said, the audience roared with laughter. Tom DeLay was spotted wiping away tears from laughing so hard. A source added that backstage was no different: “Everyone was laughing, from the designers to production assistants!”

MSNBC Talks about Ladies Night:
090923-dancing-osbourne-vmed_widec

Natalie Coughlin isn’t quite a household name, but as an Olympic medalist in swimming, she’s at least athletic — and she’s paired with Alec Mazo, who’s been looking for a good partner ever since winning with Kelly Monaco in the first season of the show. Alec first worked to cure her of her tendency to grimace angrily while competing, then went on to teach her the salsa. At times, Natalie seemed to have the hang of it, but her hips aren’t quite built for Latin dancing just yet. She’s coordinated and athletic, but she still tends to look like she’s working a little too hard.

Singer Macy Gray is dancing with the lovely and frequently challenged Jonathan Roberts (who handled Marie Osmond’s fainting spell and Heather Mills’ missing leg), and it’s pretty clear that this is not the year things get easier for him. Roberts called Macy “a little bit eccentric” from the beginning, and indeed, she seemed as out of her element as anyone the show has ever featured. Macy managed to walk around the floor in time with the music when it came time for her “Viennese waltz,” but that was about it. Carrie Ann called the performance “beautiful in its own bizarre way,” which was clearly the strongest praise she could muster.

Model Joanna Krupa and past winner Derek Hough look like a great team when they’re standing in line waiting for the show to start — so how do they look in motion? In spite of wearing what appear to be pants made from Big Bird pelts, Joanna looked good dancing. Hers was the first salsa that looked genuinely sexy (her model appearance, of course, doesn’t hurt), and she definitely looks like a competitor to watch.

Last up was Louis van Amstel and Kelly Osbourne, who’s a naturally sympathetic figure, given her wacky family and her obvious insecurities about her looks, weight, and whether she’s got any sex appeal at all. In fact, Kelly explained that it was her eagerness to try something more feminine that led her to the show. Her natural fear that she’d be hopelessly clumsy did not come true at all: she turned out to have a lovely smile, plenty of grace, and much more natural ability than anyone (especially Kelly herself) expected. Looking like a likely fan favorite because she’s both talented and an underdog of sorts, Kelly hugged her wildly excited and weepy famous parents and received very nice praise from the judges. It was an obviously genuine moment, and precisely the kind of thing that keeps people tuning in to the show.

Picking up from where I left things last night….I will never get it all, but I’ll try to hit the high points for ya’ll (Country Music night at the local sports bar with wireless 🙂 ).

Kelly Osbourne and Louis Van Amstel on Ellen!

Aaron Carter on Bonnie Hunt – you know, I sorta like this kid.

EW.com has a article I can relate to – it starts out with comments on the male pros. 🙂

‘Dancing With the Stars’ recap: We’ve Got Males
It’s season 9 (yes, really) of Dancing With the Stars, and the boys are back in town! I’ll get to last night’s competing men in a moment; first we need to focus on the eight swashbuckling stallions who have returned to Crazytown, U.S.A. Our beautiful male pros were back and ready to make loving eye contact with the camera in a rousing opening number. Maks even did a seductive eyebrow check for our viewing pleasure. They were both still there, as were all 500 billion hairs in Derek’s mop when he checked on its existence after the dance’s final flourish. Such fun! Excuse me, though: Who is this tall blonde lady who got to be the melted cheese in a Tony/Maks flatbread sandwich? I had no idea the season 9 premiere would feature the winner of a contest based on my ultimate fantasy.

That lucky lady was Tony’s wife – so she’s officially VERY lucky.

Is everyone ready to run down the first performances of the season 9 men? I feel like we should all submit photos of ourselves in mid-air, while attempting to execute fabulously contorted leaps, as a sign of solidarity before we proceed in this season’s DWTS recap journey together. Oh, well. Too much work. Here we go…

Ok! Magazine on the Women of DWTS!

Kelly Osbourne stole the show on Tuesday night’s Dancing with the Stars with a Viennese waltz that visibly moved her mother Sharon and rock legend father Ozzy Osbourne. But it was model Joanna Krupa who took the surprising first place on the hit ABC reality show’s ladies’ night — and singer Mya also looks like she’ll be a standout on the dance floor for weeks to come.
While Macy Gray had everyone scratching their heads with her censored post-dance comment, Kelly thrilled the crowd with her graceful Viennese waltz with partner Louis Van Amstel, for which she received a score of 23. The reality star cried for joy, as did her mother Sharon, who gushed to friends after the show, “it’s like she’s a young woman, not a young girl anymore. It was gorgeous!”

Backstage, Kelly told OK!, “I’m so happy, I can’t even tell you. I feel incredible. When you work so hard at something—and it’s not just about the dancing — you have to be feminine, figure out what the dance means to you. That, in itself, is really hard for me and Louis has taught me so much.

“I was crying before I went onstage and then I pulled it together,” she confided. “Then I went, you can only do the best you can do… It made me cry to share that with my mom and dad.”

Meanwhile, Joanna and pro Derek Hough couldn’t be more thrilled backstage after landing on top of the leader board with a sizzling salsa that received a 24 score and an impressive 10-point foxtrot relay. “I’m shocked. I feel like this is a dream. I really wanted to break the ‘model curse,’“ Joanna said, referring to the fact that models have never done well on DWTS. “Just because you’re a model doesn’t mean you’re stiff and can’t move.” Joanna added to OK! that she loved her flamboyant yellow salsa pants that Derek picked.

Maks, Maks, Maks – you’re going to have people accusing me of a bias against you again, when you do it to yourself every time. :::sigh::: I will point all complainers to the extremely complimentary things I said about Maks’ choreography of the summer tour.

Entourage actress Debi Mazar, who earned a 16 for her salsa and a 6 for her relay foxtrot, told OK! “I had a really good time. My nerves were hard on me.” Partner Maks Chmerkovskiy commented, “we did a lot better in practice but the first week is very tough.”

According to Access Hollywood, Donny says NO to Ballroom training….but then he kinda sorta retracts it. You be the judge. I still call him a ringer. 🙂 This one has more than just Donny – like Kelly, for example.

I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. And I'm cynical and jaded too. But I do love DWTS. :-)
