This is your first year on Strictly – how are you finding the experience?

It’s amazing. I’ve done the US, Russian and Australian versions, but this is the first and the best one. I love it and I’ve had a great partner [Countryfile’s Anita Rani, 38].

Does a woman have to be able to move for you to be attracted to her?

Everyone can dance – 100 per cent. If the bears can ride a bicycle in a Russian circus, anyone can dance.

Your wife Elena Samodanova, 32, is also a professional dancer and a judge on the Russian version of Strictly – how did you meet?

In a dance studio in 2003. She was dancing with my teacher and I thought: “Oh, she’s hot, I have to ask her out.” And I did. We went to see a movie. I proposed in a restaurant in Moscow and we got married in 2006.
