J.R. Martinez Dishes On The Viennese Waltz, Practicing For Dancing With The Stars, and More!

J.R. Martinez says he’s not nervous to dance yet, but, he will be come Sept. 19th on the premiere of Dancing With The Stars. He’s not intimidated, it just adds to “the coolness” factor. He also explains how he got on the show and how he’s getting ready for it. His first dance will be the Viennese waltz. Here is a take below, but, be sure to visit the Dalton Daily Citizen (his hometown newspaper in Georgia) for more. He talks of the last All My Children episodes as well.

“I don’t have any formal (dance) training. When I was a teenager, my mother would always try to dance with me and teach me to dance. But I didn’t want to until I figured out that girls like guys who can dance. Then it wasn’t an issue,” he said.

To get ready for the show, he began practicing with his partner, Karina Smirnoff, five days before the cast was officially announced. Now, they and the other dance teams are practicing up to five hours a day six days a week to get ready for the premiere.

“One thing that benefits me is that I work out and stay physically active. I felt like I was in great shape, and I am. But when I wake up, I’m not sore, but it’s like I got a good workout,” he said. “It feels good now. But talk to me as we get further into the competition, when it will get even tougher.”

Martinez’s debut dance will be the Viennese waltz.

“It’s a very beautiful dance, very elegant, very graceful. Sometimes I’m not so graceful, and that’s one of the things I’m having to teach my body — to get the hand movements exactly right or to make sure my arms are in the precise place they need to be,” he said. “It’s a tough dance, but it’s a beautiful dance, and I’m glad it’s my first dance.”

Martinez says he feels confident that he’ll be ready come show time.

“I can look at it and honestly say ‘That’s not bad,’” he said. “We have the routine down. We have the steps down. Now, it’s just a question of fine-tuning everything and making sure it’s where it needs to be.”

Martinez gives much of the credit to Smirnoff, who has won numerous ballroom dancing titles and has appeared on eight previous seasons of “Dancing with the Stars.”

“Karina has been great at putting up the whole routine. She is so talented. And she has a great personality that meshes really well with mine,” he said. “She’s a great teacher. We are having fun, but she’s breaking it down for me in ways that lets me understand what I really need to be getting my body to do.”

While the practices have been intense, Martinez says he has gotten a chance to spend time with the other celebrity contestants on the show.

“We all practice in the same facility, so we all hang out together. It really depends on when they take breaks. The person I’ve been seeing most is probably Chaz Bono. We seem to be on the same schedule,” he said. “Another one is Rob Kardashian. It’s really cool. Everyone is nice and easy to get along with. Our competitive nature is saying ‘You’re going down. You’re all going down.’ But at the end of the day, it’s all fun.”

Picture above from Karina’s twitter. Wow, I am loving those “lines”!! Beautiful hold!! :)

ADDING: And below is a rehearsal video from ET!! Wow, he looks fantastic dancing this early in the game in my opinion! He also talks of how he was burned. My heart goes out to him.

More Dancing With The Stars 13 Wannabes, Campaigning, and Possible Contenders In The Making

Well coolest Dancettes, as we enter July, the rumors for new cast contenders for Dancing With The Stars continue to surface. I’ve been running into a few wannabes and people campaigning again. First up, how about Randy Jones? Does that name sound familiar from the 70’s? Randy was most known as the original cowboy of the legendary disco group, THE VILLAGE PEOPLE!! Here he was “then” performing YMCA with his buddies (watching this takes me back. What a scream! :D ) in case you need a reminder!! And here he is “now”;

Ok, so on second thought? 8O But, if you’d like to add your support for Randy, be sure to “add” this facebook page to your favorites as a fun campaign has started. Seriously, I got the giggles so bad seeing this for the first time last night. I think Randy would be a hoot if he was picked to do the show, do you?

Thanks to Courtney for this next possible contender in the making! How about soap star MICHAEL E. KNIGHT?? As many of you might know, Michael is best known for playing Tad Martin on the soap opera “All My Children”. This guy very much wants to dance. Campaigning for him has began at twitter and facebook.

He’s cute! I say bring him on! :)

Hey, and let’s not forget Colleen Zenk fans are still campaigning for her to dance. Check out this fun promo they did for her recently;

Colleen Zenk – Dancing with the Stars – Season 13 Promo from Team Colleen on Vimeo.

Come on, bring on BARBARA!!! We’ll never hear the end of the campaigning for her until you do. lol

How about Jason Alexander?

Jason, “forever known as George Costanza on Seinfeld”, said he’s been asked to do the show on several occasions. Below is more from AJC.

How about “Dancing With the Stars’? He said he’s turned them down on several occasions. “I have a pretty private life,” he said. “When you do any reality show, it becomes more invasive than I’m willing to go. I have a cousin who was on ‘Survivor’ twice, Jonathan Penner. It was very clear reality TV creates stories and characters the way they want. I have too delicate an ego for that.”

Alexander admits he wouldn’t be bad on the show. “I was a song-and-dance man,” he said. “That part is wonderful. It’s the rest of the stuff surrounding it that I’m not really terribly interested in.”

He’d be fun. I wish they’d get him!!

And for those not patiently waiting (like myself 8O ) for Henry Winkler to dance on Dancing With The Stars, he’s recently said unless his buddy Ron Howard was his partner, he doesn’t plan to do the show …not even with someone elses legs. lol Below is more from the Hollywood Reporter.

THR: Do you think at point you’ll be ready to do Dancing with the Stars?

Winkler: Never. Not with someone else’s legs. I watch it. I enjoy it.

THR: You could get Ron Howard to do it with you — a mini Happy Days reunion.

Winkler: I would do it if Ron was my partner. He’s like my younger brother. Listen, I had no idea I would ever put on the leather jacket again until he called me about Obama.

What’s with all of these guys wanting to dance with each other? Ok, I can dig it.

We look forward to your thoughts as always. ;)

DWTS Season 10 Cast – Playing Catch Up

Yeah, I’ve had a busy weekend and I’ve been slacking off the rumor department. The producers have lulled me into believing I won’t find anything when I look. So, it’s catchup time. I apologize in advance if I mention something that someone already said in the comments and I don’t give you credit. I can barely remember my last name.

Kate Gosselin seems to have gone from rumor to sure thing – I know that was mentioned in the comments – there have been a few tweets from people running into her at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel and supposedly she says she’s dancing. Which sucks. I expect her to get Derek – but I’m so happy he’s on the show that I don’t care. As should all of us who have favorite pros – beggars can’t be choosers. :-)

Now, who’s this Nicole from the Pussycat Dolls chick?? She’s gorgeous, and rumor has it she’s dancing. Yeah, it’s not a GREAT source, but it’s also not the first time I’ve heard it. She appears tall, and she’s gorgeous. Maks? She’d be beautiful with either him or Derek.

Rebecca Budig of All My Children? Still a rumor I think, but she seems like a Mark partner. Someone with no baggage and a lot of potential.

Paula Abdul? Nope, not according to TMZ! After hearing about Kate Gosselin and thinking it likely that Derek gets her – I’m kinda wanting Paula back. :-)

Pam Anderson – still seems to be a sure thing, but one of my buds (Hi, Caroline) told me that Evan Lysacek was tweeting about hanging out with her. Now, Evan has plainly stated to Cheryl Burke that he would LOVE to be on DWTS, so Caroline got excited and thought maybe they were hanging at the DWTS training center. But following his tweets, it seems he saw Pam at the Figure Skating exhibition last night. Pam is from Vancouver, as I recall, so it could be a really huge coincidence. But damn, that would be AWESOME. :-) That would give me someone hot to root for if Derek gets someone crappy and exits early (for a change). Since Mark Ballas tweeted last night that he was done with his second day of training, he clearly didn’t get Pam.

Hmmm….Chad Ochocinco is heading back to Miami after a day at “Hollywood Studios” – Disney? Wonder if he’s taking a pro dancer back to Miami with him? :-) Since the new cast is going on Kimmel tomorrow night, I wonder if this eliminates him. Of course, the whole cast doesn’t have to go.

So the dude from the Deadliest Catch, Sig Hansen (yes, I had to google) wants to be on DWTS? Get in line, dude. Evan is cuter. :-)

I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. And I'm cynical and jaded too. But I do love DWTS. :-)

DWTS Season 10 – The ET Interview…

…with Susan Lucci, Cameron Matheson and Rebecca Budig. I don’t think this particular interview really reveals anything. Cameron clearly uses the word IF on number of occassions. That said, I prefer the “evil” idea of putting her with Maks to see if she could try to push him around. :-)

For those of you not convinced (or properly terrified of the idea) of Kate Gosselin, I present this (please god false) tidbit of information from Extra:

Giving new meaning to the phrase ‘shake it mama,’ mom of six Kate Gosselin is reportedly lacing up her dancing shoes to compete on ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars.”

Intrepid entertainment reporter and co-host of Los Angeles’ KEARTH 101’s morning show Lisa Stanley reports Kate is practicing her two step at the famed Beverly Wilshire Hotel. Stanley says the reality show star is “under a shroud of security,” boning up on her bossa nova at the posh hotel.
