PureDWTS Miscellaneous Media – New Rehearsal Photos, Pre-Emmy Goodies

Hey Guys, just a little media round-up this morning! First, don’t miss heading to the Daily Mail for some new pictures of the cast arriving and leaving rehearsals yesterday for Dancing With The Stars. This time pics of Henry Byalikov, Gleb Savchenko, and Lindsay Arnold are included. These pics of Brant Daugherty and Peta Murgatroyd are fun too.

Zimbio Pictures also has some new pics of Karina Smirnoff as she attended a HBO Luxury Lounge Featuring Motorola And PANDORA Jewelry Emmy Party. As always, she has great style.

More of our beautiful Karina at Zimbio Pictures.

Lastly, this is a huge huge day for Derek Hough! The 2013 Emmy Awards take place tonight. Miss Heidi sets us up with a review of him in his nominated categories (which includes videos) at Pure Derek Hough. Note that Derek is also PERFORMING tonight in a dance number which we think will take place before the Choreography awards are given out. In a new blog for TV Guide, Derek writes a little about the performance and feeling fortunate about being nominated….

It’s been kind of crazy this week because I’m also in rehearsals for the Emmys. If you haven’t heard, the Outstanding Choreography award is being presented on the main show for the first time ever and all the nominees are putting together a big number for the show with Neil Patrick Harris. It’s such an amazing honor to be part of this and to be able to perform and choreograph on the TV industry’s biggest night. It’s all looking awesome. It’s just one big number. Some of the nominees will be making an appearance and some won’t be. I want to tell you all about it, but I can’t! It’s funny — the producers told us to tweet pictures and videos this week to get people excited, so we started doing that and then they’re like, “OK, stop. We don’t want to give everything away.” But it’s really cool. It’s a nod to a lot of the shows that are nominated. It’s really diverse and just the costumes alone will blow your mind.

I’ve been very fortunate to be nominated twice this year. It sounds so clichéd, but it really is an honor. I’m not worried or nervous. I’ve been getting a lot of amazing comments from people and those mean a lot. Honestly, it would be amazing if I were lucky enough to win, but I’m excited to see what happens either way. There are some incredible people nominated and they all deserve to win. And if I don’t win, I’ll be a two-time loser! It’s happened to me before, so I’d be able to say that I’m a two-time loser twice! But the past times I’ve been nominated, I didn’t really enjoy the whole experience. This time, I’m really taking everything in. Right now is one of those rare times where choreographers are well-known. Our work is typically in the background, but shows like Dancing with the Stars and So You Think You Can Dance have really allowed people to connect to us and learn about us so much so that we can be on the Emmys ceremony. It’s special.

It’s going to be a great night. More at Pure Derek Hough on some other Pre-Emmy goodies. All the latest on Derek tonight will be posted there as soon as possible.

Ok, and that makes this post a wrap for now! 😉 xx

DWTS Season 17, Week 2 – Who’s Dancing What…and When??

So, who’s going home Monday night?? I’m guessing someone who dances either 2nd, 3rd or 4th. Maybe. Who knows??  Last week they seemed to front load the show with the good dancers, perhaps they will do that again.

Please note, we don’t actually know what Snooki and Valerie are dancing, hence the question marks. Those are my guesses. 🙂 Also note that this order is also my preliminary guess – and I didn’t spend much time pondering it. 🙂 I will add in the actual dance order when they start getting tweeted.

ETA1: Off by one on Cheryl and Jack. And why is everyone so silent this week?? 🙂

ETA2: Wasn’t off by too much on Brant…but is he really doing so well that he’s going second to last??

ETA3: Okay, so Val says they’re up first and Christina said they are “early” in the show. So I’ve switched a few things around. The stuff in red is what we’re reasonably sure of. 🙂

PureDWTS Season 17 Las Vegas Odds Going Into Week 2

My, how the Las Vegas odds can change after the couples dance and that they do as we approach the 2nd episode of Dancing With The Stars Season 17. Note the odds makers at Sports Bovada are putting Amber Riley in first place now. The top four are the same but, just switched around a bit. They don’t have Valerie Harper in last. She’s moved up the list, but, I think she should be even higher? And Leah Remini? Well, I think she should be placed in the bottom three if not last. I’m just not feeling it? I was also a little shocked on Snooki’s odds being so high now? I think she should placed in the bottom four or five.

Amber Riley 2/1
Corbin Bleu 3/1
Elizabeth Berkley 11/2
Christina Milan 7/1
Snooki 15/2
Jack Osbourne 10/1
Brant Daugherty 14/1
Leah Remini 14/1
Valerie Harper 20/1
Keyshawn Johnson 33/1
Bill Engvall 100/1
Bill Nye 100/1

Below are last week’s odds:

Corbin Bleu 5/2
Christina Milan 13/4
Amber Riley 11/2
Elizabeth Berkley 11/2
Leah Remini 7/1
Snooki 8/1
Brant Daugherty 10/1
Keyshawn Johnson 10/1
Jack Osbourne 25/1
Bill Engvall 50/1
Bill Nye 50/1
Valerie Harper 50/1

So, what do you think? Do you agree with this week’s odds? Let see what Heidi and Courtney think. Let us know your thoughts too in comments.

Courtney: Ehhh…I’m not sure really what to think for this week, other than that Amber’s probably correct at the top with Corbin nipping at her heels, and Elizabeth & Christina following up behind.  The rest is kind of murky for me – I doubt Bill is headed home this week, but I do think his novelty will wear off before long; I think Bill may have more longevity than we originally thought; and based on murmurings here – Leah’s days may be numbered. Brant, Jack, & Keyshawn are big question marks for me – I don’t think they’re doing terribly with votes, but I don’t think they’re doing fantastic with votes, either.  Snooki & Valerie are somewhere between the top tier (Amber, Corbin, Elizabeth, & Christina) and the guys I have no clue about (Jack, Keyshawn, & Brant).  I think things will become clearer come Monday, when we see the results of the first vote – beyond that, I’m just feeling discombobulated 😛

Heidi: I think they have the top five right…just not in that order. 🙂 As much as I love Amber and Derek, I really doubt that she’s going to win this thing. And that’s what these odds are – the odds to win. I still think that Corbin is going to take this, mainly because I think he’ll end up being good across both ballroom and latin (as he should be, being second only to Elizabeth in terms of ringerdom) and I’m not sure that Amber will be. Plus, I doubt anyone is going to let Derek get a 5th trophy AND Len’s bias will certainly come out shortly.  If Snooki can reign it in a bit, I think she could edge Christina and Elizabeth out of the top three, based mainly on fanbase. I think one of those two (Christina and Elizabeth) could be a shocking elimination – I’m just not sure both of them can make the top 5. I guess we’ll see.

Dancing With The Stars Bill Nye Busting His Empennage For The Paso Doble

Bill Nye tells TV Guide that dancing the Cha Cha was like dancing on the wrong side of the road last week, but, this week the Paso Doble is a better fit for him. He explains more in detail below as well as what rehearsals have been like.

What are you working on for this week?
Nye: The paso doble. This is actually easier for me. The posture I end up in, trying to correct for my [natural] bad posture, is not inappropriate. And it also has the magical thing where you start with the man’s left foot, at least on a few of [the steps], which is huge for me. Having the cha-cha not start on number one, starting on the number four of the previous measure, it’s like driving on the wrong side of the road. … This week, although the dance is quite a bit different, we’re ahead. All these weeks, [Tyne’s] been sprinkling in paso doble things in the middle of the cha-cha, and I didn’t realize it. Or maybe if she told me, I didn’t grasp it. We’re OK. We are by no means ready, but we will be.

Was it surprising to you that it’s as taxing emotionally as it is physically?
Nye: It’s not surprising. These are two people. One of them is trying to bring this guy along who’s just not skilled, and it’s just got to be so hard for her. On the other hand, I’m there just really doing my best to try to catch up. … And that’s frustrating. You just wish you could wave the wand and have it go, but that’s just not the case.

How grueling are the rehearsals?
Nye: Although I am of a certain age, I have a lot of stamina. I’m in pretty good physical shape coming into this. I’m not riding my bike and not surfing now and not running, because any of these activities could very easily lead to an injury. [But] from a cardiovascular standpoint, I’m in excellent shape. So that part hasn’t been hard. It’s the mental part that’s difficult. But I can imagine some of the other contestants getting really worn out by this. You come home tired [and] you’re just hungry all the time.

What else do you have in store this week?
Nye: We’re going to have a little bit of a show. I’m busting my empennage on the steps, on learning the dance and the whole attitude and the hand position. [Ed. Note: Nye goes on to provide a lesson in aerodynamics, explaining that empennage, related to “fuselage,” refers to the tail of an aircraft.] This doggone paso doble, the hands. Sometimes they’re thumb down. Sometimes they’re thumb forward. And you watch Tyne, it’s just so intuitive for her. She’s like, “Bill, dude, do this.” … That’s another thing. I cannot let Tyne down. She just works so hard, I just can’t let her down. We’re coming to play. We’re gonna bring it!

LOL to busting his empennage and how he had to provide a lesson in aerodynamics! More at TV Guide and here’s to wishing the best for these two this week.

PureDWTS Guest Post: Poem Welcoming Back Dancing With The Stars

Lois Troutman has written a new poem for the first week of Dancing With The Stars Season 17. She captures the spirit perfectly, doesn’t she?! Check it out…..

WELCOME BACK, DANCING WITH THE STARS!

All spiffy, spit-shined, polished, dusted off, rarin’ and ready to go
A hearty welcome back to the DANCING WITH THE STARS show

A Red Carpet entrance full of stars and celebrities surely fit for a king
A show-stoppin’, toe-tappin’, opening number full of sass and swing

The action was snappin’ the couples nervously waiting time to dance
The contemporary was performed by three couples full of romance

Corbin and Karina, Elizabeth and Val, Christina and Mark on the floor
Applause rang out from the crowd wanting to see so very much more

The Cha Cha Cha was rousingly performed, five couples shook it out
Amber and Derek, Brant and Peta, Bill and Tyne were fine no doubt

Nicole and Sasha, Keyshawn and Sharna shimmied their very best
Four couples were ready to Foxtrot, to glide, stride, to pass the test

Bill and Emma, Leah and Tony, Jack and Cheryl trotted with care
Valerie and Tristan glided across the floor with inspiration and flair

Oh how it is wonderful to have our ballroom show return to the air
To view the new-fangled, new-spangled show from our easy chair

Season 17 is here, our love for the show rings loud up to the rafter
Anticipation grows to see the razzle, dazzle, snazzle coming after

We will return next Monday to the spectacular, shimmering show
Viewing DANCING WITH THE STARS, the show with special glow!

Dancing with the Stars Season 17, Week 1 – Dancing by the Numbers

Well, this is going to be a bit different. With the exception of next week, the eliminations are going to be based on a given night’s judges scores and the previous week’s audience votes. As a result, I think Dancing by the Number is going to be a bit more predictive to the following week, as opposed to the following night.  But we’ll have to see how it all plays out. As I’m sitting down to write this, I’m not sure how it’s going to go. And I may do it differently next week. I’m flyin’ by the seat of my pants here. 🙂

As I said, next week is supposedly going to be the exception. According to the press release that Vogue posted (probably days ago), the week two elimination is going to take into account the first two weeks of judges scores (50%) and this week’s viewer vote (50%). As a result, what you see now in terms of score could be substantially changed by the time next week rolls around, and the votes are based on what happened this week, so that has to be considered as well.

The immediate problem with this scenario and the longer range prediction that we’ll have to make is that you’re using future dances, as opposed to dances you’ve already seen. For that reason, I’ve taken the time to find out which celebs are doing what dance next week to help with my guessing.  Why? Well, it seems to me that Amber could have trouble with ballroom (who knows, using her as an example) while Bill Nye could excel at something like a Waltz. Knowing what dance they’re going to do should at least be considered when making your guess, in addition to the usual judge’s games.  Below is a list of who’s dancing what and my predicted score. Note, my scores are not like Marianya’s predictions – I’m doing mine based on the dance, the pro partner, how well they did this past week, how I think they’re likely to do based on the dance they’ve been given, ringer status and the judges crack smoking habits. 🙂 Read more..

More DWTS Season 17 Week 1 Media After the Dancing (Part 3)

Thanks to our Miss Heidi for starting a new media post for me. Today has been a bear to keep up with work added to my schedule today. So, for more media updates we’ve found for you, if you go to Entertainment Weekly, you can see the cast being interviewed in their VIDEO SECTION on the “right” hand side of the page. Find the video with Mark pictured and then click on it (sorry, this is only way we can figure out how to tell you to view it). They talk of how they feel about the Bus Stop being next to the judges. Derek has an idea how to trick Bruno. It’s hilarious. Thanks to Lori for sending.

Below you can also see the cast being interviewed by EXTRA as well.

Val Chmerkovskiy has also written a new blog at NBC with his thoughts on last night’s dances, surprises, and changes. Below is a take, but, be sure to see the link for more of his thoughts on Elizabeth Berkley.

The performance levels were really up there. I actually thought it might go as well as it did after I’d caught a glimpse of rehearsal. Still, you never know how it’s going to come together for show time. Some of the performances really surprised me. I thought Jack Osbourne did a great job. I didn’t expect him to do well, but he was great.

Valerie Harper really surprised me too. Forget that she has this horrible illness — she’s made it clear that she doesn’t want this to be the topic of the season for her even though that’s what will happen, at least at certain times. Ultimately, it’s about treating her like everybody else. She’s in her 70s, and she came out and moved with such grace. It was awesome to watch. She was good! Her arms, posture and frame were nowhere near being the worst of the night.

We’ve had some changes to the show. We’re not in the Celebraquarium anymore. We’re down on the floor for the whole show pretty much. (Host) Tom Bergeron made a great joke that we didn’t have it anymore because it had “gone condo.” I thought that was hilarious.

Being on the floor for the whole show creates a more intimate and cozier environment. It’s looser and I actually love it. I love being here and performing. The only thing is — well, we’re a little too close to the judges! But I’m so happy the show is back.

What a night! I think I’ll watch it all over again tonight!! I loved it that much.

ETA: Chelsie Hightower also weighed in on the night. You can read her blog in full at ABC. Below is take. Note how she gave Bill Nye the lowest score and Amber Riley the highest score.

Chrisina Milan: How gorgeous is she!! She has a stunning stage presence befor eshe even starts dancing. Great routine by Mark [Ballas]. This girl has a lot of potential. I saw some flexed feet and bent legs in areas where they should have been straight, but her performance was spot on. She captured the feeling of the dance and I saw some passion in her expression that translated to her body. Great work! I give this a 7.8.

Bill Engvall: This guy surprised me tonight! He wasn’t bad! He brought some great energy and attack to this dance. Nice choreography by [Emma Slater]. His topline was pretty good, but his footwork was even better than expected! Your on the right track – keep on the direction you are going! 7.2.

Valerie Harper: I’m going to be the 102nd person to say it, but what an inspiration! Seriously though, this lady is incredible. I almost don’t care how she dances. I hope she stays just so we can see her journey and how she handles this process. If she attacks it the way she attacks life, I’m sure we will see some great moments. I loved this routine and her childlike innocence and enthusiasm. I also loved seeing the way Tristin handles all his partners so politely and with such great careGreat job to the both of them! 7.

Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi: Snooki, the most controversial figure of the season. What a transformation from her “Jersey Shore” days! She’s a ‘lil diva. I really enjoyed the performance! She had great charisma and is a natural performer. Good job to the pair of them. 7.7.

Overall, a great premiere night for “Dancing With the Stars.” I actually really enjoyed the new format. Faster paced, cutting down time walking up the stairs and shorter interviews. It makes the show go by faster. Great job to all the pros who brought their A game and gave America a fun enjoyable night of dancing. This should be a great season. Let the games begin!
