PureDWTS Power Rankings – The Dirty Dancing Edition!

You guys asked, and I delivered – you better like it, though, cause I set aside my usual Wednesday night viewing of The Handmaid’s Tale and Fargo to watch this turd, and it’s three hours of my life that I won’t get back. I knew up front it likely wouldn’t be that great (and definitely wouldn’t touch the original), but man – I would even go so far as to call this one a FESTERING turd, it was so bad. If you haven’t yet watched it, here’s my recommendation: don’t. Do not pass go, do not collect $200, delete it from your DVR and forget it ever existed.  Trust me when I say that there’s next to nothing redeeming about it (except for a few musical performances, which you can listen to on Spotify or iTunes – I’ve also reviewed the soundtrack below), and if you’re a fan of the original (or, y’know, just a fan of logic/cohesive plotlines/decent storytelling), it will likely just piss you off. You’ve been warned. Also, there are spoilers ahead – although if you heed my advice about this movie being likely to just piss you off, anyway, you may be thankful for said spoilers.  Proceed if you want.

UPDATE: I posted these on Twitter, but for those not on Twitter, I had to share – some of the tweets in response to the movie are HILARIOUS 😛 Both People and Buzzfeed compiled lists of their favorites. My personal favorite? “@ABC You could have remade Gone with the Wind with the cast of The Big Bang Theory and it would have been better than #DirtyDancing!” #dead Read more..

Do You Plan To Watch The “Dirty Dancing Remake”, Will It Be A Success (Includes DWTS Alumni)?

Do you plan to watch the “Dirty Dancing Remake“? I was so excited when I first heard about it being the original was one of my all time favorite dancing movies, but, I had a huge let down when they picked Abigail Breslin for the female lead. Even watching the Entertainment Tonight teaser below, I still can’t warm up to her and she seems all wrong for the part where the others fit. 🙁 With that said, I’ll probably still watch it for the dancing and the music. I’m also curious on the actors and actresses playing the other characters….especially Nicole Scherzinger playing “Penny”. Miss Heidi said she feels the same on Abigail. Here are Court’s thoughts….

Courtney: Ehhhh…will I DVR it? Probably. Will I watch in real time? Probably not, unless enough people ask me to live tweet it. Abigail Breslin will forever be Little Miss Sunshine to me, so to see her playing this woman having a sexual awakening is kinda…yucky. Never heard of the dude, and while a relatively-unknown male lead worked out ok for Kenny Wormald in Footloose and Diego Boneta in Rock of Ages, both also had a strong female lead (Julianne Hough) to play off of – and I don’t really consider Abigail a “strong female lead”. I think I would have bought Hailee Steinfeld better as Baby. However, I’m kinda loving the rest of the casting. Two DWTS alums – Nicole Scherzinger as Penny, and Billy Dee Williams as Tito the bandleader? Yes please. Sarah Hyland as Lisa Houseman? Probably not a stretch, since Hayley Dunphy is basically the same character. Loving Debra Messing & Bruce Greenwood as Baby’s parents, although I think Jerry Orbach will always be Dr. Houseman to me 🙂 I adore Katey Sagal, so I’m glad she’s in it – but I hope they find a way to give Vivian Pressman a musical number, because Katey is a KILLER singer. Casper Smart as Billy Kostecki, the guy playing second banana to someone much more popular and hoping that some of it rubs off on him? Somehow, I don’t think he’ll struggle with that 😛

Vogue: Let us know what you think in comments and do you think this movie will be a success? The new Dirty Dancing Remake” is set to premiere on May 24, 2017 on ABC.

I'm a fashion and music fan....and I have always loved dancing too of any kind. Dancing With The Stars seems to have this way of bringing all of those things together. Carrie Ann Inaba Writes Of What Makes DWTS So Incredible, Switch Up Couples Find Out Partners Today

Carrie Ann Inaba writes all about Dancing With The Stars last night at Parade.com. Below she talks of judging and also reminds us of what makes Dancing With The Stars so incredible in a “Dancing Democracy” way. She also mentions how the couples find out today who their new partners are going to be for the upcoming week! More below….

So, let’s get to the dances! Wow! I was truly impressed with the dances last night. Normally, the “most memorable year” night of dancing is the most challenging to judge. When a star has just shared an intimate detail of their life, a vulnerable time, or a challenging time, and then they dance poorly, it’s truly heart-wrenching as a judge to have to give them a bad score. This is often the time of the season where the fans of the stars will get extremely protective over their “favorites.” It’s completely understandable and beautiful, but this is when it can get very negative on social media because the fans will misunderstand the judgement of the dance for the judgement of the person. Now, we don’t judge the person; we judge the dancing and the performance. And most of the time, we care just as much as everyone else about these special, talented people who have courageously taken on this challenge to be on Dancing with the Stars. But if we don’t judge them with a critical and professional eye, there’s no point to the competition. And I’d like to remind everyone that what makes DWTS so incredible is that it is a combination of scoring and the audience and viewer votes that decides the fates of our celebs. It’s a democracy! It’s a Dancing Democracy. So vote. Oh, speaking of voting. Today is the day they tell the couples who their new partner is going to be for the upcoming week! Talk about a “SWITCH UP.” After last night’s incredible performances I almost don’t want to see them switch, but at the same time, how very interesting and what an amazing experiment it is to do this. It will be quite the psychological thriller if you ask me. I won’t know until Monday as well…and I’m chomping at the bit.

For a personal review of each couple, see Parade.com.

DWTS Season 18, Week 3 – Let’s Recap Tonight’s Show! (Spoilers)

Geez. George Pennachio says there is a surprise in the first half hour.

Like we need more surprises. :::sigh:::

I know! Let’s drink every time there is a camera screw up. Wait…I don’t have enough booze….

Great opening dance by James. He got a tiny bit off time in a couple spots….but this guy is a contender, for reals.

ETA: So Billy Dee is out due to injury. No more elimination or not?? I suspect not since they aren’t doing that stupid elmin stuff before each dance, thank god.

Great dance by Nene. And line of the night goes to Derek Hough: “This lil’ munchkin is ready for you!!” Right to Nene. 🙂

ETA2: Forgot to add to my last update that they made it pretty clear that the switch is for one week then they go back to their original partners. It sounds like no more voting – I’m afraid to hope for that to be true.

Liked Danica and Val’s dance very much, but she struck me as a bit melodramatic and not quite real in her package. I’m afraid that’s just her.

ETA3: Beautiful dance by Meryl and Maks but that was in NO WAY a foxtrot…yet no one said a word about it. Bet they would have if Meryl was dancing with Derek. Interesting how now the couples are definitely going back to each other after next week AND they get 10s on a non-foxtrot. I wonder if someone had a fit? 🙂 Besides most of the fans, I mean. I doubt they listen to us, so what happened? Not that I’m complaining about that part – I’m glad.

I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. And I'm cynical and jaded too. But I do love DWTS. :-)

Billy Dee Williams Discusses Dancing With The Stars Week 3, Switching Partners, And More

Yahoo interviewed Billy Dee Williams about all of his current projects and why he decided to do Dancing With The Stars. Billy Dee also talked with them about this week’s “most memorable dance” as well as how he feels about the Switch Up Dance. Man, do I ever feel sorry for these celebs having to deal with this. Please TPTB …stop the madness and just cancel the idea. Read on….and don’t forget to watch the fun video below too.

Yahoo TV caught up with Williams to ask him about his decision to compete on the TV dancing competition, the daunting upcoming partner switch, and what he really thinks of those low-scoring judges.

“Well, I certainly was a fan of ‘Dancing With the Stars,'” Williams told us when he was asked about his reaction when he was approached to join the demanding competition. “I was approached by my management. Before I could say no, they were so excited about the whole prospect that they wouldn’t even let me really respond. … Instead of saying no, I found myself saying, ‘Well, OK, let’s see what I can do with this.'”

As for this week’s Most Memorable Year dance, Williams can’t dish on the year he chose, but he did confirm that he and Slater are dancing a waltz. He’s also having fun going down memory lane for his Most Memorable Year routine. Well, sort of. “It’s a combination,” he said. “It’s fun for me, but it’s also, you know, it’s like, ‘What the hell am I doing?'”

Coming next week: The show’s partner “Switch-Up” twist. And like most of the other celebs, Williams isn’t particularly looking forward to swapping his partner for a new one. “I don’t really want to switch up,” he revealed. “She and I have really established a wonderful relationship. I have a tremendous love and respect for her style.”
