PureDWTS Guest Poem For Week 6: “Flipping The Ballroom Switch”

PureDWTS Guest blogger Lois is back with another one of her amazing poems and this time for Dancing With The Stars Season 17 Week 6. Thanks Lois!!

FLIPPING THE BALLROOM SWITCH!

The ballroom was opened, they flipped the switch
The dancers were puzzled, which dance was which

The Switch Up challenge was issued by the show
The dancers didn’t have a clue which way to go

The music began, the dancers found their places
Their dancing feet became happy, so did their faces

The dance styles changed, they found their groove
We grooved along with their every new-found move

The challenge over, the glitter pit full of applause
Showing appreciation to each other for the cause

The cast graced us with a spectacle of their own
Their feet danced in unison, they all brightly shone

Each dance showcased growing talents for sure
The couples were ready to showcase much more

The Paso Doble by Jack and Cheryl spicy with heat
All spic-and-span, they grooved to the Paso beat

The Tango by Bill and Emma was a new type of thrill
A Redneck, Cheessburger in Paradise, filled the bill

The Quickstep by Leah and Tony, their spirits soaring
Their feet speeding around the floor, crowd roaring

Corbin, Karina’s Viennese Waltz to Game of Thrones
Was flamboyant, fierce, pulsating deep bass tones

Derek and Amber shook the dancing shaker of spice
Their Samba was flashy, was classy, was oh so nice

Sasha and Nicole Foxtrotted Singing in the Rain style
So sweet and old-fashioned, giving us many a smile

Brant and Peta delivered the Tango with determination
Their precision, their perfection a charming sensation

Val and Elizabeth’s Cha Cha Cha put her in spotlight
A high-powered, a perfectly scored, dancing delight

There was another switch up, no one was eliminated
The cast was surprised, they hugged, they celebrated

The switch flipped down, the exhilarating evening done
We will return to the ballroom next week for more fun!

Details For Dancing With The Stars Season 17 Week 7, No Double Elimination

According to BroadwayWorld.com there will be no double elimination next week on Dancing With The Stars like many feared. Below are more dance details on the night. Thanks to @DWTSgossip for the heads up on this news.

The competition continues as eight remaining celebrities perform two new routines on “Dancing with the Stars,” MONDAY, OCTOBER 28 (8:00-10:01 p.m., ET). The night will begin with a spectacular opening number choreographed by Emmy Nominated choreographer, Mandy Moore. The competition will then be split into two rounds. In the first round, each couple will take on a dance style they have not previously performed including the Salsa, Quickstep, Samba, Cha Cha, Paso Doble, and Jive. In the second round, the cast will dance together in two separate teams, with each couple having a featured solo. At the end of the night, one couple will face elimination.

AfterBuzz TV Breaks Down Dancing With The Stars Season 17 Week 6

Below Afterbuzz breaks down Dancing With The Stars Season 17 Week 6. This time former Troupe member/singer Sonny Pedersen (love and miss him on the show! It’s good to see him again!), Grammy winning singer/actress/choreographer Toni Basil, and Anna Trebunskaya joins them! Like in previous weeks, see if you agree with them on their critiques if interested and let us know in comments.

My thoughts: I found Anna to be a little over the top again, but, I loved what she said on Amber this time and how she looks even better dancing when you see her at the show itself. I also agreed with everything they said about Len and his inconsistent judging.

A Possible Double Elimination Coming Up On Dancing With The Stars, More Interviews

Hey, just a few more media things to share that came out after dance night. First, don’t miss taking in this Access Hollywood coverage. They also interviewed a few of the couples….

Also, Today posted a good read about a possible “double elimination” coming up which we figured might happen. However, it may not happen next week. Then again, maybe it will? Take a look below at what an ABC rep told them. Thanks to PureDWTS reader Kaitlyn for sending and more at the link.

An ABC rep told TODAY that an upcoming episode will have two couples exiting the ballroom on the same night, but that that double-elimination won’t necessarily happen next week.

While there were rumors of a non-elimination circulating among the cast before Monday’s show, Smirnoff said she didn’t get her hopes up.

“You never know,” she insisted. “The plan changes five times a day. By the time you hear the old plan the new one is already in place.”

Prepare for anything. If a double elimination happens next week, who do you think should or will go?

I would say Leah for sure, but, I’m torn on the other and I don’t even want to think about it since it might be Bill? 🙁

DWTS Peta Murgatroyd Talks Of Last Night’s Tango And More On KTLA Today

Peta Murgatroyd was a guest on KTLA today to talk all about Dancing With The Stars and her partner Brant Daugherty. She says some of his strengths are his flow of movement and posture. She and Brant have turned out to be good friends and they have great communication. They also go over Peta and Brant’s Tango last night. PureDWTS Season 17, Week 6 – Power Rankings

Tonight’s episode of Sesame Street was brought to you by the words “bullsh*t” and “inconsistency”.  🙂 By the time they lined the couples up for elimination with a mere 5 minutes remaining in the show, my blood was boiling – Len was an absolute terror tonight, the other two stooges were more or less his accomplices when it came to completely contradicting things that they have said in previous weeks (or even earlier in the evening).  Seems kinda obvious that they’ve been told they need to shield certain couples from excessive criticism, while piling it on others like it’s going out of style.  Len in particular has lost all credibility for me this season – he’s not the “strictly ballroom” judge he once was; now he seems to have a personal agenda, and that dictates his scores & critiques far more than any actual ballroom knowledge.  Can we ship him back overseas next week and bring in a guest judge? Pretty please? 🙂

As I had kinda guessed, the switch-up dance challenge was a complete turd of an idea – and I think it was quite possibly the most ridiculous-looking thing we’ve seen them make these poor celebs do in 17 seasons.  My best guess is that, immediately following the aftermath of last week’s production Muppet voting snafu, they knew they were gonna  have to forego this week’s elimination, but needed something trivial to fill time…enter this nonsense.  God I hope this one gets permanently scrapped, cause I felt seriously embarassed for some of the couples out there…except for Bill & Emma, who seemed hip to the fact that this challenge was complete bullsh*t and just decided to have fun with it 🙂 Thrilled that nobody got eliminated – I was seriously scared for Bill by the end of the show.  But likely thanks to the Muppets, we get him for another week 😀

1.) Amber & Derek – I’m convinced now that there is nothing Derek can do this season to please Len – “there’s not enough content”.  “There’s too much content & it’s repetitive.” The guy is damned if he does and damned if he doesn’t – and he seems to be the only one that Len picks apart for these reasons, and the only one that gets legitimately punished as opposed to just getting a warning (looking at YOU, Tony).  And the worst part: Amber just seems to be collateral damage to Len.  I actually thought this routine was a good example of samba – had a lot of textbook steps, it traveled around the room, and Derek took out a lot of the “frippery” that Len has been complaining about this season…and Amber handled it well! But Len has the nerve to whine about it being “repetitive”.  Ok Len, I’ll take the bait: maybe it was repetitive because THERE’S A FUCKING SYLLABUS OF STEPS THAT YOU CONSTANTLY HARP ON, and samba in particular is rather limited in the sequence of steps you can use to get around the room.  And dammit, every single routine is going to be repetitive to some degree – if you want a dance to look like it should, you’ve gotta use a lot of basic, characeristic steps.  Bill & Emma’s tango? Yep, repetition.  Brant & Peta’s tango? Repetitive.  Jack & Cheryl’s paso? Repetitive.  Nicole & Sasha’s foxtrot? Repetitive, repetitive, repetitive. And yet none of those other couples got scolded for it…hmmmm.  I guess my only explanation is that Amber is getting the votes she needs to stick around, so TPTB don’t feel the need to “shield” her from elimination like they do other couples – and maybe, to give the impression of this being a close race, Len feels the need to knock this couple down a few notches.

2.) Elizabeth & Val – Lizzy, Lizzy, Lizzy…I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I’m actually starting to feel a bit sorry for her.  This woman just seems like she’s DESPERATE to do well, and might emotionally shatter at any given moment.  By extension, I think I might actually be feeling a bit bad for Val, too, just because I’m not sure that he really knows how to handle it when Liz has a meltdown like she did during her rehearsal footage.  But anyway – I thought her cha-cha was actually pretty good, but I don’t think it was 30-worthy – as I said to someone on Twitter, I MIGHT have given it one “10” as a courtesy, and then maybe two 9’s.  I will commend Val on the fact that he must really drill proper turn technique into his partners, because Elizabeth, like Zendaya & Kelly, seems to know how to properly spot her turns, and the result is pretty nice to look at.  Can’t say I was wild about Liz’ solo at the beginning, but I guess I understand why Val put it there – it utilizes her ballet & jazz training.  My only other complaint: like a lot of other routines we’ve seen from Val, it just seemed a little bit “stop-and-go”, which interrupted the overall flow of it.  But overall, I enjoyed it, and Liz seemed to handle it well.  The fact that it was given a perfect score, however, makes me wonder if the judges are attempting to shield Lizzy from a Christina Milian-esque ouster – and I wonder if they’ve decided that she MUST be in the finale.  I get that they want to have a strong finale of good dancers, but I think anymore, it’s not just about the dancing anymore…you’ve gotta connect with the audience and really entertain them, and that’s one area where I think Liz & Val could take a page out of Bill & Emma’s book. Liz & Val seem to be more inwardly-focused and taking the competition more seriously; I think Bill & Emma, while still wanting to do well, seem more focused on putting on a good show and really making things enjoyable for viewers.  If Liz could do both, I could see her being more of a contender. PureDWTS Season 17 Week 6 Media After Dance Night, Late Night Rehearsals

So far, there hasn’t been many interviews released after the show (yet?). Though for starters, we did find this George Pennacchio ABC7 recap with a few new interviews in it. You can watch it at ABC7. Below is also some interview quotes….

When it came to the dancing, Elizabeth Berkley Lauren and her partner, Val Chmerkovskiy, scored the season’s first triple 10s for a Cha Cha that head judge Len Goodman called “hip-notic.”

“Oh my gosh, I couldn’t believe I was seeing it when those paddles went around. It was very exciting, very exciting,” said Berkley Lauren.

They got the only perfect score of the night but ended the evening tied for first place because of the “switch-up challenge.”

The eight teams were divided into two groups to dance for extra points without knowing what songs would be playing. The challenge lifted Amber Riley and Derek Hough from second place to tying for first.

“I was just like, I’m going to have fun and try to make it look like I know what I’m doing and stay committed. And that’s what I did because I definitely had no idea what I was doing,” said Riley.

Brant Daugherty and Peta Murgatroyd ended the evening in third place, followed by a fox-trotting Nicole Polizzi and Sasha Farber.

“I’m not a ballroom dancer, and the fact that they’re saying my lines are pretty and, you know, I’m somewhat pulling this off, it means a lot to me,” said Polizzi.
