Maks Chmerkovskiy Has 10 Week DWTS Season Idea, Talks On Bristol Palin, And More

According to an article at Today, Maks Chmerkovskiy has mellowed his thoughts on Bristol Palin and when someone with low scores advances on Dancing With The Stars. Kirstie Alley has helped him a lot with that issue. He said, “Everybody deserves to be here. I’m not looking at Bristol the way I may have done in the past. She’s doing a fantastic job.” Below is more on how Kirstie Alley has helped him. He and Kirstie also provide some teasers on their “Moves Like Jagger” dance…

“I realized we might not have been the best dancing couple, but we were enjoying every week,” he explained. “I looked at Kirstie and saw the transformation and how much she loved being on the show. Everybody deserves that feeling. I hate to see anyone eliminated.”

Alas, next week there will be a double elimination. But Alley, who has a say in her and Chmerkovskiy’s dance, is hoping they won’t be one of the couples leaving.

She plans on doing a routine to Maroon 5’s “Moves Like Jagger.” Watch for Chmerkovskiy to be appropriately decked out in tight pants and a loose vest.

“We’re going to see how you move like Jagger,” she told Chmerkovskiy.

“I have a big a–,” he replied, noting that therefore it might be difficult to fit into tight pants.

“Move like Jagger plus a half,” Alley says.

This is going to be a hoot. I can’t wait. Maks says even more about he and Kirstie’s new dance in his new blog at TV Guide. And good for Maks thinking better about Bristol. I wish I felt as good about her.

Also at Today, Maks comments on a 10 week season on Dancing With The Stars with no eliminations and someone is declared a winner at the end. Below is what he said about it….

The bad boy of the ballroom has a suggestion on how to eliminate any tensions that arise over debatable scoring and unjust eliminations.

“I’d like to see a season where everybody just dances,” he offered. “At ten weeks somebody gets called the winner. Everybody should get to experience (the whole competition.) I hate that Joey (Fatone) left.”

I LOVE the idea!! What do you think? Let’s get Miss Heidi’s thoughts…

Heidi: Heh – well, Maks better feel better about Bristol cuz Kirstie ALSO stayed over a better dancer. He’d kinda be a big fat hypocrite if he didn’t have this particular “awakening”.   As for his 10 week season with no eliminations idea – sure, that sounds cool.  But I think you’d still have to have the judging every week and then just add the scores every week for a cumulative score at the end of the season. That way you’d still have half judges and half viewer vote.  Because no matter how much people cry about the voters or whine about the judging, neither group can be trusted to get it right. There’s a better shot if both have a say.  It will never happen though, because part of ABC’s revenue is from voting, not to mention that people LIKE to vote – they feel involved, like they have a say. If you take that away…you have PBS ballroom.

DWTS 15 – The Great Quickstep Debate: Breaking Hold vs. Not Breaking Hold

In his Access Hollywood interview from after Monday night’s show, Mark explained his reasons for “breaking hold” in he in Bristol’s quickstep – and he also insinuated that a few other couples also broke hold in their quicksteps this week, yet didn’t get called out by the judges.  So it got me thinking: did the judges, indeed, turn a blind eye to some couples’ rule-breaking, while calling out others?

First, a little bit of background as to why breaking hold in quickstep is such a big deal.  Earlier this year, I went into detail about it in one of my “Ask Courtney” posts – the basic gist is that quickstep is the only ballroom dance on DWTS that is only danced in the International Standard style, in which you cannot break hold at all, and they’ve carried that rule over to DWTS.  I personally think it’s kind of a dumb rule, considering that DWTS is not a real ballroom competition (and never will be), and considering that you can break hold in the waltz, foxtrot, Viennese waltz, and sometimes tango (the last one is whole different debate). DWTS Bristol Palin, Gilles Marini, Karina Smirnoff, Sharna Burgess Attend Launch Of Just Dance 4

Pictured above is Bristol Palin, Gilles Marini, and Karina Smirnoff. The three stars of Dancing With The Stars attended The Launch Of Just Dance 4 presented by Ubisoft at the Lexington Social House last night after the show in Hollywood, California. You can view more photos of them at Zimbio Pictures. What do you think? I love that sideways look from Karina! She really knows how to work the camera.

ADDING: Just found out Sharna was also at this event. Beautiful!

DWTS All Stars Iconic Dances Revealed, Teasers, And More Details For Week 3 (Videos)

The couples all had nothing but great thoughts for Joey and Kym and their elimination in their interviews with On The Red Carpet. They also recap what’s ahead for their “iconic” dances which will be a new twist on a past dance that had 3 10’s or something sentimental. No free styles allowed. The celeb will also get to be the “Creative Director” in picking the song, dance, costumes, etc. They also talk of dealing with the forthcoming “double elimination”. Lots more in the videos below. NOTE how Kirstie and Mark reveal the most about their dances coming up….

First up, Drew and Anna are so relieved to know they will be back. It was sad to see Joey and Kym go. It was a bittersweet night. Anna is not looking forward to a double elimination next week and calls it “The Hunger Games”. So true. George also asks them on their Iconic dance. Drew and Anna stress how they want it be about “them”….and for it to be “a production, a spectacle and a concert” for all of their dances from here on out.

Helio says it was hard being in the bottom two and seeing Joey go. It was a shame and George and Helio stress how people need to “vote”. They hope to come back stronger next week. They have the Quickstep. Helio says he’s going to be a “Creative Director”.

Karina and Apolo talk of the insane season and how they are freaking out about a double elimination next week, but, they hope to give it their all and “crush” it. They chose a dance that has a lot of “emotion” versus a lot of “energy”. It’s also full of ‘passion’, it’s ‘seductive’, it’s ‘mysterious’, and it’s ‘sensual”. (Could this be an Argentine Tango? Whatever it is, bring it on. I can’t wait.)

Gone Too Soon Dancing With The Stars All Star Joey Fatone Elimination Interviews

And so we say good-bye to Joey Fatone and Kym Johnson on Dancing With The Stars. Surprise eliminations are just never easy and this season is no different. 🙁 I don’t think there was a dry eye in the house watching these two leave. Joey handled it all so classy though and what’s more, with a big smile. I loved his message at the end about “Having FUN no matter if you come in first or last” and how that’s what it’s all about. What a true entertainer and such a fun and lovable person! To All Star Joey and Kym!!!

With that said, here the two are on Jimmy Kimmel, On The Red Carpet, and Access Hollywood last night. We’ll post their Good Morning America interview as soon as it’s available!

ADDING: And here is Joey and Kym on Good Morning America today.

SPOILERS!! DWTS Season 15, Week 2 – Who Got the Boot???

I better hurry up and post this obligatory waste of space in order to spare the Twitter fans on the west coast the bad news…

Tonight, we lost Team FatOne as Joey & Kym were sent home.  With them in the REAL bottom 2 were Helio & Chelsie; and in quite possibly the worst case scenario Heidi could have predicted, Bristol managed to avoid the bottom 2 entirely – Heidi assures me from the road that there will be a post forthcoming to help sort out some of the confusion and dismay we might be feeling about Bristol sticking around despite seemingly insurmountable odds…and hopefully assuage this feeling of season 11 déjà vu I find myself feeling 🙁

So to recap…

Court: Said it would be Bristol & Drew in the bottom 2, with Drew getting sent home.

Heidi: Said it would be Bristol & Drew in the bottom 2, with Bristol going home, but also said it could be Bristol & Kelly in the bottom 2 with Bristol still going home.

Vogue: Said Bristol would be going home.

So basically, a sh*t week was had by all in the predictions department – and we’re left a bit uneasy as we head into Iconic Dances week.  The 3 people at the bottom of the leaderboard managed to avoid landing in the bottom 2, and the guy tied for 5th and one of the guys tied for 7th plummeted.  The middle of the pack definitely seems like a dangerous place to be this season… 😯

DWTS Season 15, Week 2 – Dancing by the Numbers

Crack is wack…and BACK in the ballroom.  Everything Courtney said about the scoring – I said much the same. Overly kind to some couples, desperately trying to find fault with others.  What it boiled down to was a whole bunch of over scoring combined with some “just right” scoring. I don’t think anyone was underscored, really, but many were way too high. Including Bristol and Kirstie, despite them being at the bottom of the leader board.  It’s this kind of scoring that always leads to shocking eliminations. Do I really think that either Bristol or Kirstie will go home this week?  Read on…

The Judges Scores and Percentages

This is why this season is so tough – even with a pretty good break between Bristol and the rest, there is NO guarantee that she’s going home like there would be in a normal season. Like it or not, Bristol is on the show for a reason. Do I think she has a HUGE fanbase? Well, it’s never truly been tested. It will be tonight, to a degree. Now, I think Kelly and Drew both are in serious danger. HOWEVER, last week Bristol only needed 7,200 more votes per million votes cast than Drew in order for him to land in the bottom two. This week is a different story and will be a bit more of a test of her fanbase. What does Bristol need to have happen in order to stick around for another week? She needs at least ONE of the following things to happen:

–          Bristol needs 10,900 more votes per million votes cast than Kirstie, OR;

–          Bristol needs 14,500 more votes per million votes cast than Kelly, OR;

–          Bristol needs 16,310 more votes per million votes cast than Drew OR Joey OR Emmett, OR;

–          Bristol needs 18,120 more votes per million votes cast than Helio, OR;

–          Bristol needs 19,930 more votes per million votes cast than Melissa, OR;

–          Bristol needs 23,550 more votes per million votes cast than Apolo

Dancing With The Stars 15 Week 2: After The Show

Below is some great coverage after the show with the cast out and about from PoPTVDotCom. Tom Bergeron discussed the “level of anxiety” this season and how the competition is tighter than any other season. Kelly and Gilles talk of what they like the most about the season…their friendships and the fun. Louis talks on he and Sabrina’s amazing night and how their hard work paid off. You can see Maks and Peta and their moms at the end.

Also, did you any of you tune into the After Party at the official Dancing With The Stars site? I haven’t had a chance to watch it yet, but, I hear Kyle Massey and Tristan MacManus were guests as well as former Dancing With The Stars Nick Koscovich as previously reported. You can tune into the After Party here.

Stay tuned. Heidi’s new Numbers post is coming up soon as well as some other cool things!! 😉

PureDWTS All Stars Week 2: Media And Interviews After Monday Night’s Dance

What an exciting night once again on Dancing With The Stars. Let’s go straight to George Pennacchio of On The Red Carpet to get the couples reactions.

First up, Sabrina and Louis! This is the first time Louis has been at the top of the leaderboard in 15 seasons. He thanks Sabrina. Sabrina thinks they can do it and she’s confident in Louis.

Kelly and Val are happy with their dance. They hope everyone is voting. They hope to just keep doing better and learn from one another. Kelly is glad she has some time away from General Hospital to learn more dance moves from Val if they make it. George reassures her she will be back.

Helio and Chelsie are happy with their dance, but, they want to keep working hard and improve. George remarks on Chelsie’s maturity this season. Chelsie credits the “man” she has for a partner versus the younger partners she’s had in the past.

Derek and Shawn are happy with their step up from last week. If they make it, Derek says they have “big” plans for next week with a quickstep. They plan to push boundaries and do things never seen before. “This season is about pleasing the audience”. Derek is happy with the song they have as well. For lots more on these two, be sure you visit Pure Derek Hough.

DWTS Season 15, Week 2 – Power Rankings

Oh jive/quickstep week – a week that usually has the potential to make me cringe and shake my head.  Unfortunately, this season was no different 🙁 The lines have been drawn, and the judges are making some pretty clear distinctions in their scoring – at the top we have the “chosen ones” who can do no wrong in the judges’ eyes (Gilles & Peta, Sabrina & Louis), then the good dancers that the judges seem to critique/score more harshly to give the impression of “wanting them to improve” (Shawn & Derek, Apolo & Karina, Melissa & Tony), the mediocre-to-good dancers that the judges seem reluctant to really critique/score harshly (Kelly & Val, Emmitt & Cheryl, Helio & Chelsie), the mediocre-to-bad dancers that don’t really get love from the judges but still get the votes to stay (Joey & Kym, Kirstie & Maks, Bristol & Mark)…and then you have Drew, whom I’m almost convinced the judges/TPTB don’t really give a rat’s ass whether he stays or goes.  All in all, this illustrious all-star season is beginning to leave a bad taste in my mouth – and we’ve still got 8 more weeks to go after tomorrow! And please tell me I’m not the only one that’s getting sick of seeing that damn 7.5 paddle…

1.) Gilles & Peta – As great of a dancer as Gilles may be, I just find myself getting rubbed the wrong way by some of his behavior so far this season – and I’m beginning to feel the same about Peta, too.  He complains about how injured he is and how much pain he’s in all week, then performs one of the most intense & forceful jives I’ve ever seen on the show – and then he has this bizarre, kinda choked-up “moment” up in the celebraquarium that just kinda left me going “Huh?” Not gonna lie – it was bordering on Jaleel levels of awkwardness.  While I do think he did a really good jive (notice I didn’t say “great”), I think Gilles may have caught a bit of the Sabrina Bug this week – every kick & flick just felt so HARD and deliberate.  And I’m not sure if it was just the fringe on her costume or what, but Peta seemed to be dancing extra forcefully, too – and as trivial as this may seem, I seriously hope the makeup team dials back the eyeliner next week, because it gives Peta this very harsh, glaring look when she’s not smiling widely. Anywho, these two seem like they’ve got several weeks of safety ahead of them, with the level of favoritism they seem to be getting from the judges & TPTB.  I guess I just hope Gilles can have some sort of breakthrough and regain some of the charm that made him so endearing in season 8…

2.) Shawn & Derek – This jive was pretty much everything I expected – cute, high-energy, clean, & entertaining.  Even though I had already gotten a bit of a heads-up that Shawn had much better endurance than Derek, I was still kinda impressed by how…not winded she was afterward.  Just sort of a “Meh…ain’t no thang!” look on her face 😛 Now while I enjoyed the Hairspray theme and a lot of the choreography that went with it, I have to say – I found myself wanting a little more basic, in-hold jive content, a little bit less of the 60’s-y themed open choreography.  And I wonder if this may be a problem with pretty much everyone who goes for a themed routine this season – everyone feels so compelled to keep the bar high that they feel the need to throw in a lot of unique choreography.  I guess that’s one way in which I agreed with Len a bit in his critique – everything in this routine was satisfactory, but I don’t know that any of it really exceeded my expectations.  Guess I’m just hoping to be blown away during iconic dances week next week, since the couples have been instructed to “push the envelope”. I just hope Derek can “push the envelope” while still including a lot of basic choreography.

3.) Sabrina & Louis – In quite possibly the biggest judging gaffe of the night, Gilles & Peta’s biggest competition for “most off-putting” couple this season managed to walk away with the high score after doing a quickstep that, while good, left me confused.   I will give Sabrina credit for calming down quite a bit this week – there wasn’t nearly as much overdancing this time.  But I did notice a couple instances where she seemed to fight the urge to really hit things hard, and a couple flicks seemed to come out a bit harder than they probably should have.  My other big complaint? I felt like they stopped every 5 seconds for Sabrina to pose in a picture line!!! Talk about disrupting the flow of a dance – I liked what she did in-hold and she did have great posture, but it just felt so disjointed because Louis seemed to be throwing her into an oversway every other measure.  For that reason, I think she was grossly overscored – considering that Apolo had, IMO, much more difficult content, which he executed with far more finesse than Sabrina did her content.  And WTF was up with that beginning sequence when they came running in??? If it was accidental, they must really be in la-la land; if it was intentional, WTF?! But as I saw many of you saying, I feel like the fix is in – somebody with influence really wants Sabrina to stick around.  Which makes me wonder if maybe Sabrina isn’t exactly “killing it” in the votes department.  But I think time will tell, as we whittle down the weaker dancers… Read more..
