DWTS Season 17, Week 2 – Post Show Media Round Up!

Heidi here, Vogue is having some internet issues.  I’m starting this post, but odds are good that Vogue the Queen of all Media will do most of the updating. 🙂  I can’t find much (any) video at all right now – it’s like everyone took the night off after the Emmy…and they probably did.  First up, E! Goes behind the scenes with Leah Remini:

When we caught up with the contestants backstage after tonight’s performances, Remini exclusively told us that how happy she is to be a part of Dancing With the Star‘s 17th season. “The show has been a Godsend, and Tony has been a Godsend,” she smiled. “The cast and everybody has rallied around me. I have so many supporters I didn’t know I had and really the show has given me so much.”

Remini, who recently recently spoke with Ellen DeGeneres about her defection from the religion, admitted that her fellow contestants are helping to fill a void in her life. “I don’t feel like I lost friends, I actually lost friends.” Remini explained. “It sucks but at the same time it is what it is and we have to move on, but I feel like I have a lot of really good friends, a lot of new friends.”

Corbin blogs for Access Hollywood:

For me, it was still coming relatively close off of ‘High School Musical.’ … That’s the thing about the show, it’s a wonderful opportunity to promote and a wonderful opportunity to show people who you are. … I really wanted to be able to grow and just transform myself as an artist and as a person first. I wanted to be able to go off and do things like I did with Broadway and doing all these movies where I’m playing all these sort of crazy characters and being able to do the soap [‘One Life To Live’] — all these projects. I’m working as a producer and establishing my business.

The contestants on Julianne being a guest judge from Entertainmentwise (Derek says “She’s going to destroy us!”):

However Glee actress Amber gave a more positive outlook on Julianne’s arrival on the show when she commented: “I really want to impress Julianne because she is one of my favourite dancers and I love watching her dance.”

Appearing to side with Derek that Julianne may be tougher on Derek, Cheryl Burke mused: “She’s probably going to be harder on her brother I think than giving him praise and good scores.”

Claiming that Julianne will be good when it comes to her judging talent, professional dancer Karina Smirnoff commented: “I think she’s going to have a very down to earth relateable comments, marks and hopefully scores.”

However, the dancer appeared to hint that she hopes she won’t be seeing favourtism between Julianne and her brother. She said: “In professional ballroom world, you are not allowed to judge any competition if you have any family members in the competition but hey it’s a TV show and I love Jules.

“I’ve known her since since she was 10 so it’s all good.”

Citing Julianne’s arrival on the show as refreshing, Nicole ‘Snooki’ Polizzi revealed her thoughts: “I’m very excited. she’s talented, amazing, gorgeous. I feel like she’s going to be a nice judge which is refreshing.”

ETA: Hi, Vogue here and I’m finally back. I haven’t had time to listen to everything but, On The Red Carpet has posted new interviews with the cast from after the show last night. You can listen to them all below…

DWTS Season 17, Week 2 – Let’s Recap Tonight’s Show!! (SPOILERS)

Well, we’re off to a great start with Elizabeth and Val, I think. Followed by Mark and Christina with a strong Paso Doble. All this unnatural gushing has me a bit worried, though. That, combined with the front loading of the show with great dancers. Hmmmm….what do you all think they are up to? I think Amber will get hammered and I think Bill Nye will get crucified. The former for “drama” the latter because they mistakenly believe that’s how to get rid of him. Nope. Dudes.

ETA: Bill E. getting hosed with dancing in the 3rd position. Good idea of “nicking” Derek’s stuff, though Emma. 🙂

ETA2: the Jeopardy Couples were: Elizabeth and Val, Bill and Emma, and Keyshawn and Sharna. Not necessarily the bottom two, the couple going home is Keyshawn and Sharna!!

Who thinks Elizabeth isn’t getting the votes she should be??

Bill Nye Science Guy

Jack and Cheryl

Bill Envall and Emma

Corbin and Karina

DWTS Season 17, Week 2 – Who’s Dancing What…and When??

So, who’s going home Monday night?? I’m guessing someone who dances either 2nd, 3rd or 4th. Maybe. Who knows??  Last week they seemed to front load the show with the good dancers, perhaps they will do that again.

Please note, we don’t actually know what Snooki and Valerie are dancing, hence the question marks. Those are my guesses. 🙂 Also note that this order is also my preliminary guess – and I didn’t spend much time pondering it. 🙂 I will add in the actual dance order when they start getting tweeted.

ETA1: Off by one on Cheryl and Jack. And why is everyone so silent this week?? 🙂

ETA2: Wasn’t off by too much on Brant…but is he really doing so well that he’s going second to last??

ETA3: Okay, so Val says they’re up first and Christina said they are “early” in the show. So I’ve switched a few things around. The stuff in red is what we’re reasonably sure of. 🙂

PureDWTS Season 17 Las Vegas Odds Going Into Week 2

My, how the Las Vegas odds can change after the couples dance and that they do as we approach the 2nd episode of Dancing With The Stars Season 17. Note the odds makers at Sports Bovada are putting Amber Riley in first place now. The top four are the same but, just switched around a bit. They don’t have Valerie Harper in last. She’s moved up the list, but, I think she should be even higher? And Leah Remini? Well, I think she should be placed in the bottom three if not last. I’m just not feeling it? I was also a little shocked on Snooki’s odds being so high now? I think she should placed in the bottom four or five.

Amber Riley 2/1
Corbin Bleu 3/1
Elizabeth Berkley 11/2
Christina Milan 7/1
Snooki 15/2
Jack Osbourne 10/1
Brant Daugherty 14/1
Leah Remini 14/1
Valerie Harper 20/1
Keyshawn Johnson 33/1
Bill Engvall 100/1
Bill Nye 100/1

Below are last week’s odds:

Corbin Bleu 5/2
Christina Milan 13/4
Amber Riley 11/2
Elizabeth Berkley 11/2
Leah Remini 7/1
Snooki 8/1
Brant Daugherty 10/1
Keyshawn Johnson 10/1
Jack Osbourne 25/1
Bill Engvall 50/1
Bill Nye 50/1
Valerie Harper 50/1

So, what do you think? Do you agree with this week’s odds? Let see what Heidi and Courtney think. Let us know your thoughts too in comments.

Courtney: Ehhh…I’m not sure really what to think for this week, other than that Amber’s probably correct at the top with Corbin nipping at her heels, and Elizabeth & Christina following up behind.  The rest is kind of murky for me – I doubt Bill is headed home this week, but I do think his novelty will wear off before long; I think Bill may have more longevity than we originally thought; and based on murmurings here – Leah’s days may be numbered. Brant, Jack, & Keyshawn are big question marks for me – I don’t think they’re doing terribly with votes, but I don’t think they’re doing fantastic with votes, either.  Snooki & Valerie are somewhere between the top tier (Amber, Corbin, Elizabeth, & Christina) and the guys I have no clue about (Jack, Keyshawn, & Brant).  I think things will become clearer come Monday, when we see the results of the first vote – beyond that, I’m just feeling discombobulated 😛

Heidi: I think they have the top five right…just not in that order. 🙂 As much as I love Amber and Derek, I really doubt that she’s going to win this thing. And that’s what these odds are – the odds to win. I still think that Corbin is going to take this, mainly because I think he’ll end up being good across both ballroom and latin (as he should be, being second only to Elizabeth in terms of ringerdom) and I’m not sure that Amber will be. Plus, I doubt anyone is going to let Derek get a 5th trophy AND Len’s bias will certainly come out shortly.  If Snooki can reign it in a bit, I think she could edge Christina and Elizabeth out of the top three, based mainly on fanbase. I think one of those two (Christina and Elizabeth) could be a shocking elimination – I’m just not sure both of them can make the top 5. I guess we’ll see.

Dancing with the Stars Season 17, Week 1 – Dancing by the Numbers

Well, this is going to be a bit different. With the exception of next week, the eliminations are going to be based on a given night’s judges scores and the previous week’s audience votes. As a result, I think Dancing by the Number is going to be a bit more predictive to the following week, as opposed to the following night.  But we’ll have to see how it all plays out. As I’m sitting down to write this, I’m not sure how it’s going to go. And I may do it differently next week. I’m flyin’ by the seat of my pants here. 🙂

As I said, next week is supposedly going to be the exception. According to the press release that Vogue posted (probably days ago), the week two elimination is going to take into account the first two weeks of judges scores (50%) and this week’s viewer vote (50%). As a result, what you see now in terms of score could be substantially changed by the time next week rolls around, and the votes are based on what happened this week, so that has to be considered as well.

The immediate problem with this scenario and the longer range prediction that we’ll have to make is that you’re using future dances, as opposed to dances you’ve already seen. For that reason, I’ve taken the time to find out which celebs are doing what dance next week to help with my guessing.  Why? Well, it seems to me that Amber could have trouble with ballroom (who knows, using her as an example) while Bill Nye could excel at something like a Waltz. Knowing what dance they’re going to do should at least be considered when making your guess, in addition to the usual judge’s games.  Below is a list of who’s dancing what and my predicted score. Note, my scores are not like Marianya’s predictions – I’m doing mine based on the dance, the pro partner, how well they did this past week, how I think they’re likely to do based on the dance they’ve been given, ringer status and the judges crack smoking habits. 🙂 Read more..

More DWTS Season 17 Week 1 Media After the Dancing (Part 3)

Thanks to our Miss Heidi for starting a new media post for me. Today has been a bear to keep up with work added to my schedule today. So, for more media updates we’ve found for you, if you go to Entertainment Weekly, you can see the cast being interviewed in their VIDEO SECTION on the “right” hand side of the page. Find the video with Mark pictured and then click on it (sorry, this is only way we can figure out how to tell you to view it). They talk of how they feel about the Bus Stop being next to the judges. Derek has an idea how to trick Bruno. It’s hilarious. Thanks to Lori for sending.

Below you can also see the cast being interviewed by EXTRA as well.

Val Chmerkovskiy has also written a new blog at NBC with his thoughts on last night’s dances, surprises, and changes. Below is a take, but, be sure to see the link for more of his thoughts on Elizabeth Berkley.

The performance levels were really up there. I actually thought it might go as well as it did after I’d caught a glimpse of rehearsal. Still, you never know how it’s going to come together for show time. Some of the performances really surprised me. I thought Jack Osbourne did a great job. I didn’t expect him to do well, but he was great.

Valerie Harper really surprised me too. Forget that she has this horrible illness — she’s made it clear that she doesn’t want this to be the topic of the season for her even though that’s what will happen, at least at certain times. Ultimately, it’s about treating her like everybody else. She’s in her 70s, and she came out and moved with such grace. It was awesome to watch. She was good! Her arms, posture and frame were nowhere near being the worst of the night.

We’ve had some changes to the show. We’re not in the Celebraquarium anymore. We’re down on the floor for the whole show pretty much. (Host) Tom Bergeron made a great joke that we didn’t have it anymore because it had “gone condo.” I thought that was hilarious.

Being on the floor for the whole show creates a more intimate and cozier environment. It’s looser and I actually love it. I love being here and performing. The only thing is — well, we’re a little too close to the judges! But I’m so happy the show is back.

What a night! I think I’ll watch it all over again tonight!! I loved it that much.

ETA: Chelsie Hightower also weighed in on the night. You can read her blog in full at ABC. Below is take. Note how she gave Bill Nye the lowest score and Amber Riley the highest score.

Chrisina Milan: How gorgeous is she!! She has a stunning stage presence befor eshe even starts dancing. Great routine by Mark [Ballas]. This girl has a lot of potential. I saw some flexed feet and bent legs in areas where they should have been straight, but her performance was spot on. She captured the feeling of the dance and I saw some passion in her expression that translated to her body. Great work! I give this a 7.8.

Bill Engvall: This guy surprised me tonight! He wasn’t bad! He brought some great energy and attack to this dance. Nice choreography by [Emma Slater]. His topline was pretty good, but his footwork was even better than expected! Your on the right track – keep on the direction you are going! 7.2.

Valerie Harper: I’m going to be the 102nd person to say it, but what an inspiration! Seriously though, this lady is incredible. I almost don’t care how she dances. I hope she stays just so we can see her journey and how she handles this process. If she attacks it the way she attacks life, I’m sure we will see some great moments. I loved this routine and her childlike innocence and enthusiasm. I also loved seeing the way Tristin handles all his partners so politely and with such great careGreat job to the both of them! 7.

Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi: Snooki, the most controversial figure of the season. What a transformation from her “Jersey Shore” days! She’s a ‘lil diva. I really enjoyed the performance! She had great charisma and is a natural performer. Good job to the pair of them. 7.7.

Overall, a great premiere night for “Dancing With the Stars.” I actually really enjoyed the new format. Faster paced, cutting down time walking up the stairs and shorter interviews. It makes the show go by faster. Great job to all the pros who brought their A game and gave America a fun enjoyable night of dancing. This should be a great season. Let the games begin!

More Post Media After The Dancing With The Stars Season 17 Premiere

Anna Trebunskaya reviewed the Dancing With The Stars premiere last night at ABC! Below is her take on these contestants. Also note that she is worried about Bill Nye the most.

Keyshawn Johnson: Cool tricks! A wonderful play on Keyshawn’s strength and very strong content. Keyshawn, you got to get out of your head and let loose! Work a bit on the posture as well and you will do you well in all the ballroom dances to come this season. Oh yeah, and listen to your teacher.

Christina Milian: A very athletic contemporary routine. She had great expression that improved through out the routine. I agree with the judges though: Christina needs to showcase more confidence in her dancing, but she’s off to a good start!

Bill Engvall: A really strong Foxtrot routine for Bill. Lots of content and confidence. Must be the fact that he rehearsed in the You Can Dance studio in Hermosa Beach, Calif., (Yes, that’s my studio and I’m shameless about plugging it in). Bill, work on your transitions and smoothness, but you’re doing fantastic!

Valerie Harper: Wow! That performance brought tears to my eyes. What a role model to anyone! She’s a stunning woman and a very elegant dancer. No other words…

Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi: Looking hot mama! Really fun Cha Cha “pocket rocket” style (to echo Len’s comment). Snooki actually had good Cha Cha technique and good rhythm. Stay focused and keep improving! You’re a natural performer.

Anna’s Take

Overall, a really good level of dancing from all the competitors. It will be very exciting to see everyone develop and improve. I’m concerned about Bill Nye. He has the lowest score from the judges, but what makes “DWTS” the show it is is the audience voting factor, so you never know! Like I said, exciting!

More at ABC. Let us know if you agree with her review.

Also, Good Morning America has posted a video recap and Melissa Rycroft weighs in on the dances too! She says this season is reminding her of the all-star season. You can watch it HERE.

Official DWTS Radio has been posting some new interviews with the cast as well. When you get time, be sure to take them in too.

Lastly, Henry of PopTVDotCom is back. He has some coverage of our pros and celebs going to a Party after the show. They tell him how it feels to be back….

PureDWTS17 Media Round-Up After The First Dance On Dancing With The Stars (New Interviews)

Wow, what a great kick off to the new season of Dancing With The Stars Season 17. So much great dancing! I was quickly reminded of why I love this show so much!! But, enough from me, let’s get straight to some new interviews for what we have so far. First up, we have some of the cast being interviewed by our favorite reporter, George Pennacchio of On The Red Carpet.

Derek explains how his jacket ripped last night, but, he quickly got it fixed. Amber didn’t know what was going to happen, but, she just went out there and had fun. Derek says she brought the “sexy” even if she had doubts she could. The energy of the night helped them to dance. Once Amber shook off the nerves, a “swag” came over her and she told herself she could do it. Derek learned straight up she was performer and she had a lot of energy. For even more with Amber and Derek, be sure to visit Pure Derek Hough.

Elizabeth is happy with 2nd place and how there is room to grow. She talks of how they had to “live in the moment”. They loved the energy of the night. One thing Val has enjoyed so far is hearing and learning about Elizabeth’s family and how that is something they are both passionate about it. Elizabeth loved the last moment of the dance and what a beautiful feeling it was. They are excited for week 2 and the work they will have to put in.

Brant and Peta!! George asks them on their connection and being set up by Tom. They get embarrassed and George promises not to ask them on it again (good!). Peta raves about how Brant is so nice and more than a pretty face. Brant says Peta is one of the funniest people he’s ever met. Peta is happy with them being in the middle of the pack. Brant raves on Amber and how she blew him away.

DWTS Season 17, Week 1 – Let’s Recap Tonight’s Show!!

Hey all!! With all the changes to DWTS this season, of course you’re going to see a few changes here at PureDWTS as well. Don’t panic! Courtney is still doing her Power Rankings – but they’ll go up on Tuesday, probably in the morning. I’m still doing “Dancing by the Numbers” (although adjusted to fit the new voting/elimination deal) and it will go up on Wednesday morning. You will likely see Cheesecake in some form, possibly smaller bites scattered through the week. And, of course, Vogue will reign supreme as the Queen of all Media. 🙂

Because of that new format, and our newer schedule, we thought it would be a good idea to put up a post every Monday evening where we can all rehash the show, tell us your favorite dance or dancer, pick on Carrie Ann, Brooke, Bruno…whoever (except Tom – Tom is god). Discuss at length hot dancer bodies. Whatever. 🙂 And, of course, this will be the place where you find out who got eliminated if you happened to miss the show – not till next week, though. I will change the title to include “Spoiler” when that happens.

The only thing I haven’t decided yet is whether to post this when the show starts or immediately following. I have noticed that this place gets pretty quiet while the show is actually airing in the East. I’m posting this one right NOW – let me know your preferences. I can post it when the show start for those who like to watch and discuss at the same time.

Judges Bruno Tonioli And Carrie Ann Inaba Weigh In On The New Cast Of Dancing With The Stars 17

Judge Bruno Tonioli and Extra’s Mario Lopez dance a little and then they go over the new season of Dancing With The Stars. Bruno is loving the variety of the cast, but, he has some special thoughts to share on “Showgirls” too (are we now surprised? lol).

Also, ABC News interviewed Carrie Ann Inaba about the new season of Dancing With The Stars. Below is a take for how Jack Osbourne and Valerie Harper are personally touching her. You can read more at the link on what she thinks of a few of the other contestants.

Inaba said Osbourne could possibly follow in his sister’s footsteps as someone who could make it far into the competition.

“If we look back at Jack’s sister, Kelly, she didn’t even have a disability except the fact she was truly a dark horse,” she said. ”Her determination took her to the end, she was in the final three. She captured the hearts of people and I think it really changed her life.”

Another contestant who is easy to root for is Valerie Harper, who was diagnosed with terminal cancer earlier in the year and has since come close to remission.

Inaba can relate because her mother, Patricia, was diagnosed with stage-3 breast cancer in 2008 and is now a survivor.

“It’s going to be interesting to watch Valerie for sure,” she said. ”She’s captured the hearts of all of us. I want to see this courageous woman do her thing. I’m so impressed with her, the message she’s sending out to people that are suffering with cancer or in remission.”

A message of “Don’t die until you’re dead!” Harper, 74, told ABC at the cast reveal two weeks ago. “Don’t give up on your life, don’t just lay there.”
