PureDWTS Season 21, Week 2, Monday – Power Rankings

I apologize for not getting this up last night – asthma kicked in and I just needed to lie down. God bless allergy season! I think this may be the first time since season 15’s two-night performance debacle during the Presidential debates that I’ve had to do (2) rankings in one week 😛 I wouldn’t mind so much, except that there’s still a LOT of couples left…and when I want to weight in on each one, that’s a lot of writing!

Aside from the Colts playing like sh*t and my live stream freezing up at key moments, I also had the added irritation of the bulk of the dances having way too much “messing about” at the beginning.  With the dances already being so  shortened, it just seems like that much more of an excuse to d*ck around in order to conceal weaknesses. Dislike. Also seemed like a night where nobody 100% knocked their dances out of the park – maybe it was the strain of having to learn two dances this week, but while there was quite a bit of improvement from (most) everyone, I don’t feel like anyone completely mastered their dances.  A few came close…but still room for improvement all around.

I’m pretty shocked that it was Chaka that got sent packing tonight – I actually think she did noticeably better than last week, and thought that an R&B legend would have more folks voting for her than a reality TV wife. Also an eye-opener? The fact that Keo somehow looks better (and seems to teach better) when it’s a ballroom dance instead of a Latin one…go fig. Isn’t Latin his specialty? I just don’t know what to make of Keo anymore…but 3rd season in a row where he hasn’t been able to make it past week 3? Yikes – that’s a pretty dismal track record, and something has gotta change…and it ain’t the type of partner he’s getting. Read more..

Keo Motsepe Says Chaka Khan Will “Woo” The Judges Tonight On DWTS

Is Chaka Khan ready to “woo” the judges tonight? Keo Motsepe says she is. Here is more from IB Times.

I think it’s going to be different on Monday. It’s going to be improvements and that’s what I’m excited about,” he told IBT, adding the two have learned a lot since their low-scoring debut. “She’s doing very well.”

“Obviously, the first week she didn’t know what to expect. You can explain as much as you want but she didn’t expect something like that,” the artist said, revealing that Khan was thrown off during the live premiere by the unexpected loud noises, screaming fans and the numerous cameras that were shoved in her face. However, after the “I Feel For You” songstress completed her first performance, she became aware of her chaotic surroundings.

Motsepe said after their routine, Khan told him she finally “got it.”

“She said, ‘I get now what I should do before the show, what my attitude should be like.’ Because there’s so many factors involved,” he dished to IBT, referring to hair and makeup, numerous interviews, cameras lurking around every corner. “She didn’t get that cameras [were] everywhere. So, I think that threw her off.”

But Motsepe unveiled his partner is ready to woo the judges Monday night as she Foxtrots to the tune of Frank Sinatra’s single “Chicago” during the upcoming episode. The pro dancer also noted Khan will use her boisterous presence as one of her strengths during the installment. “She’s a diva, which I like because when she’s on the floor, people know she’s there.”

To read the full interview, see the IB Times. US Weekly has a fun article posted on getting to know Keo better too.

PureDWTS Season 21, Week 2 – Who’s Dancing What…and When?

Court here, filling in for Heidi who is on holiday in New Orleans :-) There are two dances for the couples next week. Below is what we know so far. Stay tuned for updates and be sure to see week 1’s interviews in this post to get more hints for what’s coming up for Week 2!

ETA: Vogue here. Mark and Derek held a periscope today. Derek said he and Bindi have a Waltz & he thinks a Tango for next week. Mark has a Salsa and a Rumba with Alexa. Thanks to Cath for the heads up. You can watch the Periscope at this link.

ETA2: Sharna Burgess has revealed in her new blog that she and Nick have a Jive and a Foxtrot this week. ~ Vogue

ETA3: Tamar said on “The Real” today she and Val have a Salsa and Charleston next week.

ETA4: One of Andy and Allison’s dances is the Jive.

ETA5: Andy and Allison’s other dance is Contemporary.

ETA6: From @DWTS360, Alek and Lindsay have a Jazz and a Quickstep. ADDING: Also, Julz Tocker on Afterbuzz thought Keo and Chaka had a Salsa and a Foxtrot but, wasn’t sure.

ETA7: Per this pap video, Victor & Karina have jive (Monday) and rumba (Tuesday). Thank you to the many people on Twitter that tweeted it to me… – Court

ETA8: Vogue back! According to this Young Hollywood interview, one of Louis and Paula’s dances is a Rumba.

ETA9: There has been a change in dances since Tamar’s comment on The Real. She and Val are dancing a Cha Cha instead of a salsa.

ETA10: Apparently Bindi’s “Hometown Glory” dance is a tango (song below), per E!. A commenter says that Paula’s rumba is to “Midnight Train to Georgia”, and that Louis’ dance is a tango, but so far all I can find is people saying they vaguely remember her MAYBE saying it in a podcast, but nobody can remember exactly when or where…so take it with a grain of salt.

PureDWTS Season 21, Week 1 – Power Rankings

At the risk of making a pun at Victor’s expense, after tonight – I believe we have a horse race on our hands, kids :-) Literally, seems like 5 (possibly 6) couples gunning hard for the top spot…and I don’t think it’s going to be an easy win for anyone.  Kinda nice to not have a firmly predetermined feel for who’s gonna win after the first night.

Other odd & assorted thoughts and observations from this evening: Bruno appears to be the “new Len”, as he’s now the nitpicking stickler and not nearly as wild and flamboyant as he once was.  Bit of a buzzkill, and not sure it feels natural :-( Giving quickstep as a week 1 dance is kind of a crock – so Tamar and Paula, you both have my sympathy. Between Paula, Gary, and Hayes’ annoying brother Nash – I think Tom and the Muppets in the editing booth are going to be kept on their toes all season. And ho-lee-crap, Peanut Rademacher, aka the coolest celeb offspring ever to grace the DWTS ballroom, was back tonight after a 2.5 year hiatus…sitting in row 2, stage right, snacking on something while sitting next to Ingo…nonplussed as ever about the show he was watching. 😎 Read more..

PureDWTS Season 21 Late-Breaking Casting Rumors: Paula Deen & Chaka Khan???

In what is quickly becoming one of those days where the leaks and info and breaking fast & loose, E! News is reporting that controversial former Food Network chef Paula Deen and R&B legend Chaka Khan are part of this season’s cast.  See more below and at the link:

Controversial celebrity chef Paula Deen is joining the cast of Dancing With the Stars, multiple sources exclusively tell E! News.

Our sources also exclusively tell us that Grammy-winning music icon Chaka Khan, aka the Queen of Funk, will also be competing in season 21 when it premieres on Sept. 14.  ABC does not comment on casting rumors.

As with many other celebs, this isn’t the first time Paula has been asked – she apparently first got asked back in 2010, but turned them down as “fat girls don’t look good sweating”. Our own records have her popping up as a rumor in multiple seasons. Say what you will about Paula, but I love her – she reminds me of my dearly departed southern Grammy, and while her food will land you in an early grave if you eat it all the time…man, is it good. :-)

As for Chaka – I’m gonna call her “Keo bait” cause she seems like exactly the type of celeb they dream of sticking him with.

What are your thoughts?
