DWTS Season 18, THE FINALE, Part 2 – Let’s Recap Tonight’s Show (Spoilers)

Repeat of rules from last night/last week: Once again, due to heavy traffic, we have to institute a few ground rules for tonight show. Most of these are good rules ALL OF THE TIME, and are basic netiquette.

  1. DO NOT hit refresh every few seconds – in fact, do not hit refresh every five minutes! Read, comment if you like, then walk away from the computer for five to ten minutes. I know this is hard, but it will prevent others from losing their minds trying to read and/or update the site.
  2. DO NOT use the comment section like it’s twitter – it’s not twitter. Make an actual comment with context of who you’re talking about, who you’re talking to (if it applies), etc. Context, and more than one line. If you break this rule more than one time, I start deleting. If you do it a couple times, you’ll find yourself on moderation.  Perhaps for life. :-)  Keep in mind that if you can’t follow this rule, I can make you follow it.
  3. Try very hard to keep the ugly to a minimum. Think before you post. If you’ve been called out previously on this blog for your behavior, this will be extra important because there’s only so much I will tolerate. I’m not talking about differing opinions, I’m talking about nasty. If I get the sense that you are purposely trolling  (look it up if you’re not sure), I will just block you. No warning other than this one.

Again, we’ve turned on the Comment Moderation feature for the entire site. That way, in the event of an unexpected elimination, we can week out any trouble makers that much quicker. ;-)

So, if you’re in rehab from the drinking during last night’s show, raise your hand. :-D Read more..

Tonight’s Drinking Game: Take a  shot every time they show Mark getting hurt and ask if he will dance. Take a double shot every time someone mentions that Maks has never won before. Triple shot if it’s Maks himself.  See you all in rehab tomorrow. :-)

ETA: Well, you oughta be half drunk already. :-)  Everyone looks pretty though.

ETA: James is IN IT TO WIN IT. Take that Meryl and Maks shippers…oh don’t worry, you’ll get your kissing. :-P  Really, good dance from James.

Can’t believe Meryl is finally going second….now when it no longer matters. Guess they did learn from Zendaya, eh?

ETA3: Good dance by Meryl and Maks, but I still don’t feel all this magic that I sense I’m supposed to get. :-)

ETA4: Poor Candace and Mark. She struggled with that dance and I have a feeling she’ll get a more generous score than she should…but hell, they were right. That had to be harder than hell to have Mark go down and be uncertain if he would dance with you or not, but she held up really well. She looked very pretty too. :-)  Love her.

ETA5: WOW. Are we sure that Amy is a double amputee?? Cuz that dance was a big ole FU to her critics. LOL.  And Jennifer Grey in the audience looking like she was going to lose it complete. Awesome. :-D

ETA6: Great freestyle by James!! Loved it. Looked like Sonya might have choreo’d it.

ETA7: Whoa, Evan dude lighten up!

ETA8 Boy, I’m really surprised by that almost kiss. And that dance didn’t look anything like Derek and Kelly’s. Except for the staging, the lighting, almost costume too. :-D

ETA9: Love Tom making fun of the whole teddy bear thing. And really seriously even the comments from Len and Bruno were the same as they were for Kelly’s freestyle.

ETA10: I was too nervous to even watch Candace and Mark, I was afraid Mark’s damn shoulder was going pop out. Boy has balls that’s for sure.

ETA11: Nope, no agenda. CAI starting to sound like Meryl and Maks fans – asking about lifts less than half an hour after Meryl did a dance with just as many. :::rolls eyes::: At least she didn’t purposely underscore her cuz she didn’t like the rope, LEN.  THIS is what we’re talking about when we way that other couples get away with shit that Derek can’t.  Anyway, beautiful dance – I was nervous the whole time, wondering what Derek was up to.

ETA12: When I’m right, I’m right. Not even 15 minutes ago I said that the very bad score on Candace’s freestyle likely meant that Candace was going through. Not surprising.  And they were likely called safe in the order they will place tomorrow. Meryl, Amy and then Candace.  But it doesn’t have to be if everyone VOTES!! ;-)

Dancing With The Stars Season 18 Finals: Astrology Study And Numerology Predictions

Hi All! It’s Vogue back again to introduce another one of DonaMadrina’s fun Numerology Prediction posts. This time she analyzes the couples numbers for the Finals of Dancing With The Stars Season 18!! Dona also goes through last week’s numbers for what happened in the Semi-Finals. I’ve also included a little Astrology information in this post at the end for you to think about in mixing up things further. :) Ok, let’s get started, shall we?

Battle of the 9’s – Part II
by DonaMadrina

WEEK 9 Reviewed
So Charlie went home! :( Was that surprising to me from the numbers? Yes…and no.

As I mentioned last week, numerology is as much an art as a science. Knowing how to “read” the numbers takes years of practice, especially when there is so much duality in the charts, i.e. too close to call.

Hindsight is golden, as they say. And, darn! I wished I had talked about “Week 9’s” numbers in the verbiage of Part I. Though I included the charts, had I elaborated on them, we’d have seen an important piece of information that might have hinted at Charlie possibly being in trouble. Charlie’s elimination is much more obvious now – but this is hindsight. Read more..

Dancing with the Stars Season 18, Week 9 – Dancing by the Numbers!

I think the writing is on the wall for Candace, this week, I’m afraid. I’ll be very surprised to see her make it to night two. Not that it matters. She made it to the finale with Meryl, Amy and James and she should be VERY proud of that fact. I’m willing to bet that Mark gives her an amazing freestyle and I’m looking forward to seeing it. I’m looking forward to seeing all of them, actually.

In case you’re wondering, my last DBTN post will be on Tuesday morning and will show what the various players have to do to WIN – even though I think the odds are pretty firmly behind Meryl at this point. It all depends on if Maks manages a great Freestyle compared to the others. If they all suck, then he’s fine, but if Mark, Derek and Peta put on amazing freestyles and he doesn’t?? It might change the game. It might not, but it could.  And before you start squawking about facebook…that seems to work for who gets eliminated, but I wouldn’t be so sure that it works for who WINS. You have to think about how Facebook likes actually work. You also have to consider the fan groups involved. Do you think that the Meryl and Maks fans are doing everything they can to make sure ALL of them go to facebook and “like” those photos, now that it seems to show something?? I sure do. Do all fan groups do that? Beyond one tweet, probably not. Now that people know it appears to work, they will work harder to “like” – yes, it is extremely counterintuitive, but does that surprise you? You also have to consider that some people probably “like” more than one person or dance – so while the lack of likes may show who’s leaving, an excess of likes may not indicate a WIN.  Then there is a duration issue. How long do they wait between posting photos?? Is one couples photos going up first?  Just some things to consider.  I may analyze it more once the season is over – more from an intuitive angle than an actual math angle.

Anyway. This week I just left out the part of the post that includes Charlie’s numbers and went straight to the four remaining dancers. Sue me, I’m tired and I want to do something else. Here’s how it stacks up after two dances:

Week 9 Table 1

That order right there is how I think it will end up, on Tuesday, although it’s heavily dependent on the scores. Anyway, Meryl’s only got a 2 point lead on Amy and a 4 point lead on Candace. Not many points, but at this stage of the game it does equate to a good number of votes.

Week 9 Table 2

For Candace to make it to Tuesday night, she needs one of three things to happen:

  • Candace needs about 13,100 more votes per million votes cast than James, OR;
  • Candace needs about 19,700 more votes per million votes cast than Amy, OR;
  • Candace needs about 26,200 more votes per million votes cast than Meryl.

I really don’t see any of that happening. It’s too stacked against her.  Both she and James have been the last one standing a couple times, so I think if Candace can pass anyone, it will be James. If she were to do that James would need to get past either Amy or Meryl which involves:

  • James would have to get 6,600 more votes per million votes cast than Amy, OR;
  • James would need 13,100 more votes per million votes cast than Meryl.

If anything is going to work, he would get past Amy. He is the big heart throb after all. The only question is if the girls are seriously voting. He could be getting past Amy, but that only matters if Candace is getting past him. We won’t know until Monday night.

So, I think that Meryl is the only one safe for sure. The other three are in jeopardy. I predict that Candace is the one to be eliminated on Monday.  If Candace is beating James, I think Amy could go home because James doesn’t have to do much to get past her. Remember…heart throb. :-)

Here’s another prediction for you – I predict that if James makes it into the finale, they call him safe FIRST. Just to mess with ya’lls heads. Well, Meryl and Maks fans heads. We’ll see. And if they call Candace safe first? Amy fans should be worried.

Afterbuzz TV Reviews DWTS 18 Semi-Finals: Should Cumulative Scoring Be Used?

Kristyn Burtt and the Afterbuzz TV gang are back with another fun episode. Elena Grinenko joins them this time to review the Dancing With The Stars Season 18 Semi-finals. I pretty much agreed with them on the dances until Julz mentioned that Derek and Amy’s Jazz was missing something and he wanted more. Note how they were upset on the elimination as we were. Elena brings up an idea about how the show should use cumulative scoring instead of scoring the couples week to week. I agree as that would seem more fair and Charlie and Sharna would still be with us. Let us know what you think and if you agree with them on everything. There is some funny parts in this show too…but, I won’t ruin it for you.

Also, Kristyn has made a prediction for the Finals at her blog (thanks Lori for the heads up).

I think we all agree Meryl will win that Mirror Ball Trophy and I won’t be upset about it. She had an incredible season. I felt more connected to Amy’s journey, but she’s going on to great things so I am not worried about her. I know I put James in second place. I don’t think I really believe that’s how it will play out, it’s just me making a ridiculous prediction for a ridiculous season when it comes to manipulation and scoring.

I really hope this isn’t the way it plays out with the manipulation and scoring. Please please let this competition go down fairly next week unlike it did this past week. And I hope Amy wins as she is more deserving from those left in my opinion.

DWTS18 Semi-Finals More Post Show Interviews, Asked About Final Dances

The Afterbuzz TV interviews have been released with JC Rubio. The couples talk of the dances last night and also give a few hints for the finals….uhh, which isn’t much.

Note: Derek has no idea (or won’t say) for what they will do for the finals. He doesn’t know the song yet either.

Meryl says their freestyle is a secret. Maks says he doesn’t know what they will do yet.

Mark is tight lipped. He says they won’t be treating next week any differently and he hopes he and Candace can just enjoy the process.

They haven’t posted an interview with Peta and James yet, but, watch this link in case they do soon.

And below is Sharna and Charlie reflecting. Oh man, this is sad and bittersweet at the same time. Love them so much…

ETA: OK! Magazine interviewed Maks and Meryl. They ask Maks if he’s coming back next season. He promises to tell next week and that it’s already been decided. Uggh, I don’t want to even think about it….

That’s the million dollar question,” he said with a grin after Monday night’s show. “It’s already decided. I’m not telling. I’ll tell you next week. I promise.”

As he and Meryl advance to the finals (really, was there ever any doubt?), the pair aren’t taking anything for granted.

“It’s not surreal,” says the Olympic gold medal-winning ice dancer. “It feels very real to be honest with you. I’ve been saying as an Olympian you never really celebrate until you get to the place you’re looking towards. Of course we’re really excited about our dances tonight. I think we both had an amazing time but we’re already looking to next week.”

Next week’s freestyle should knock everyone’s socks off, although as of last night Maks had no idea what he was going to choreograph. He says by Friday they’ll have something special locked in.

ETA2: Below is Extra with the couples….

Also, the On The Red Carpet interviews have been released. And below is Charlie and Sharna with Access Hollywood.

Carrie Ann Inaba has also written a new blog at Parade reviewing the night and the dances. Below she talks about the finals. I am a bit upset for what she wrote about Charlie and Sharna…more on that at the link as I am biting my teeth.

The finals are going to be great, no doubt about it! It will be exciting and I hope to see some mind-blowing freestyles! I’m also looking forward to seeing each of the couples redo the routines they did when we had the switch up week but with their real partners again. This season has been so different in so many ways, but I do believe it’s been a good season overall and I can’t wait to see who will take home the mirror ball trophy. It’s going to be an intense two nights! Don’t forget we are on Monday night and Tuesday night next week, so keep your schedules clear so you can be right there with us when we crown the season 18 champion! Tweet me and let me know who you think will be taking it home this year!

James Maslow wrote about the finals as well at Parade saying this….

We’re both really excited. Peta is ecstatic because it’s only the second time she’s been in the finals. The only other time was in her second season with Donald [Driver] and she won it. So it’s a familiar feeling for her, but she’s also that much more nervous. I’ve literally put blood, sweat, and tears into this competition and making it all 10 weeks is rewarding. We’re going to give it everything we’ve got because at this point there’s just no turning back.

Being in these finals is such an honor for me because everyone is so talented. I think Amy has a huge advantage being paired with Derek. He’s very creative with her and making what they do incredibly sharp. Meryl is an incredibly strong dancer and has the technique as an ice skater that’s obviously transitioned well to the dance floor with her and Maks. And Candace has constantly been progressing, and I think America loves seeing that. It’s really hard to say who the biggest competitor is, I guess Meryl, just in terms of dance ability.

ETA3: The Ice Network interviewed Charlie and Sharna as well. Below is a take. Thanks to Kate for sending.

“It’s been an amazing cap to a wonderful season,” he said. “Going from the Olympics to DWTS, we didn’t have a moment to rest, but it was the best way to do it. Right from the get-go, it was an amazing learning experience.

“Obviously, I’m upset that we couldn’t dance in the finale … but I definitely feel very grateful for everything I did get to experience.”

White said he was appreciative that Burgess did not hold back choreographically despite his grueling schedule. Through her, he was able to gain a deep understanding of the origins of many dances he and Davis have interpreted on ice over the years.

“We certainly feel we’re masters of our craft, and yet there’s this whole other layer. Getting to work on that and discover new things was a pleasure,” White said. “We definitely have fresh perspective on so many different things, from the way you partner to the steps you have in your repertoire.”

Burgess said beyond teaching and choreographing, she has enjoyed dancing with White.

“The bar is set higher, and there were very high expectations for someone like Charlie,” Burgess said. “I had a lot of pressure on myself to create those amazing routines, to make it difficult enough for him and to give him the great technique on top of it. I didn’t go easy on him, and I didn’t take it easy on myself. I was constantly going back and looking at my work and making sure it was worthy of something that he would do.

“I wanted him to go out on the floor every Monday and do the absolute best routines that he could possibly have molded on him,” she added. “I feel like we achieved that week to week.”

Team USA also interviewed Charlie and Sharna. This is a good one. Be sure you read it in full at the link. Thanks to Ria for the heads up.

At what point did you start to think you were going home?

I think as soon as we knew it was the three Olympians in jeopardy, I had a bit of a feeling, but it could have gone any way. Having said that, I’m really looking forward to cheering on my fellow Team USA-ers.

How did it feel being eliminated after receiving perfect scores two weeks in a row?

It’s disappointing. We were looking forward to moving on and up, and it felt like we were peaking at the right time. It’s just one of those things where it doesn’t work out the way that you want it to, and, thankfully, with all my experience in competing you learn how to handle disappointment. Both of us are looking at the bright side and trying to learn from it.

Would you have done anything differently over the past nine weeks?

Absolutely not. That’s one of the reasons we can hold our heads so high leaving. We can honestly say to ourselves and to each other that we did pretty much everything we could have, whether it be choreographically or being true to ourselves in a reality TV show, which maybe isn’t always the easiest, or the way we represented ourselves. It’s not easy, but we did literally everything that we could.

What is your favorite memory from the show?

It’s tough to say there’s just one. I think Disney night when we got to do our (“Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” dance) was really special. It was one of those moments you’ll never forget. I got to dance with some cartoon penguins — that’s pretty memorable. It was a really special night.

PureDWTS Season 18, Week 9 – Power Rankings

Things I learned from last night’s show:

1.) Running prostheses are a beautiful thing.

2.) Bruno Mars, a half-Puerto-Rican, half-Filipino pop singer who has only been popular in the States for about the last 5 years, apparently meets the criteria to be considered an “American Icon”. Somewhere, Ronnie Van Zant is spinning in his grave (Freebird rumba FTW!)

3.) There will never be another Michael Jackson routine as good as Shawn & Mark’s “P.Y.T.” cha-cha in season 8.

4.) If you need to justify Ralphing a certain male contestant in order to ensure that your chosen one makes the finale, just make him do a samba to a Biggie Smalls song…and then tell him he’s not “funky” enough.

5.) When someone “brings out the best” in you, you hurl mic packs in fits of joy.

Yeah, last night was an odd night – there was the low-energy, less-skilled end of the spectrum (Candace & James) that was called safe right away, and then the actual contenders were kept in jeopardy till the end of the show and we ended up losing someone that many of us had pegged as the winner of season 18 back in March.  Yep, just as we all feared – Charlie got Ralphed, and it breaks my heart…I found him far more fun and engaging than Meryl all season long, and I thought Charlie was Sharna’s best shot at the MBT so far (and probably ever).  Charlie seemed to take it all in stride, but I think Sharna may be hurting for awhile – and I can’t blame her.  She did everything in her power to make Charlie shine this season, but just kept getting smacked down by the judges for no good reason (other than to protect the Princess).  I’m kinda hoping Karina sits down with her and gives her a pep talk, because she’s been there – and I’m hoping Sharna can return next season with a vengeance, and claim what should have been hers this season (just like Karina did with JR in season 13). PureDWTS18 Semi-Finals Post Media And Interviews Part 1

Good Day All!! Time for some post media and interviews after the show. Though first, I must say I have never had such mixed feelings for this show as I do right now. I’m happy for how Amy and Derek are going to the finals after their scare last night, but, I’m also so sad Sharna and Charlie didn’t make it. :( Something seems so wrong with that. It should have been James or Candace to go. Even my Dad called after the show to talk about it and said the same. I remember Carrie Ann Inaba once saying that the right people always make the finals in the end. Well, not this time. :(

Moving on, let’s see what Sharna and Charlie and the other contestants had to say about it with George Pennacchio of ABC7 (a prelude for whats to come with the On The Red carpet Interviews). Be sure to see this link.

You can also see Sharna and Charlie interviewed by E News at this link (sorry. I can’t embed it or it messes up the site). Sharna looks so sad and beautiful. Charlie keeps smiling through out. How does he do it? As well as his amazing dancing this season, I don’t think I’ll ever forget his smile. Also, didn’t you love his tails last night?

In more media things, see the Daily Mail has a fun recap with pictures. Glamour has some “behind the scenes” coverage and pictures after the show too. I love this part with Derek’s reaction to Kenny Ortega’s comment. *awwww*

*Oh, and Derek Hough…after that second dance with Amy, all I can say is that when the time comes, can you choreograph my wedding dance? That was just pure brilliance.

I showed Derek what I wrote, and after first joking that he would not, he redeemed himself quickly: “Of course I will! We’ll just dance the night away!” I also told Derek that I’m calling his dances “dancing couture” because of how he tailors each dance to each partner’s strengths. Totally appropriate, right? And as for Kenny Ortega’s comment to Derek that he has “redefined choreography for this generation?” Even Derek was at a loss for words backstage. “He’s an absolute legend and has choreographed the best, so to hear that coming from him is incredible. I just feel really blessed and humbled.”

I'm a fashion and music fan....and I have always loved dancing too of any kind. Dancing With The Stars seems to have this way of bringing all of those things together. One of my favorite dancing quotes at the moment: "No matter what, nobody can take away the dance you've already had...." ~Gleb Savchenko . For fun music and dance mixes, visit WilUnleashed Soundcloud.
