What a fun “Good Morning America” today. All through out the show, they partied with our four finalists from interviewing them and asking them trivia questions. Their family and friends also had guest spots congratulating them. Kellie’s husband gave her a cute little puppy. At the end, they wrapped up the show with the couples favorite dances. Tom Bergeron, Louis van Amstel, and Chelsie Hightower helped out with the party as well!! You can see some of GMA’s coverage at ABC. Below are some you tube videos of the coverage as well (thanks to @dwtsgossip for the heads up on these).
Chelsie Hightower, Louis Van Amstel, Helio Castroneves Predict The Winner Of Dancing With The Stars Season 16
Louis Van Amstel has penned a new blog at ABC. Surprisingly enough, he’s picking Kellie Picker to win the mirror ball on Dancing With The Stars (which I agree with and why). Be sure to read the link for more.
So, if you judge it on freestyle alone, Kellie will take away the Mirror Ball trophy. Looking back at her season, she has been nothing but consistent. Sometimes she was too much in her head, but always physically giving it her all.
If you look at showing personality, performance level and always giving well-rounded show stoppers, Zendaya could definitely win. She sometimes had issues finishing off her movement, but she also had very consistent weeks.
Even though Aly got a late start, by being in the middle of the pack until well into the competition, with her fan base, she might still be able to overtake Kellie and Zendaya. Like I said last week with Ingo, the same goes for Jacoby this week. The only way for him to win is if his fan base will stay up all night to vote. Otherwise, it couldn’t happen.
After all is said and done, I don’t want to just be diplomatic and not pick a winner, because that would be kind of lame, so … drumroll. Taking the entire season into account, looking at dance technique, performance, overall personality, and who I think touched us watching this season, I’d give the Mirror Ball trophy of Season 16 to Kellie Pickler!
Also, you can watch Louis, Chelsie Hightower, and dancing alumni Helio Castroneves talking on last night’s finale with GMA this morning HERE. They go over all the freestyles and the negatives and positives. In the end, two pick Kellie to win and one picks Zendaya.
Stay tuned. Miss Heidi’s new Numbers and Predictions post is coming up next!!
Above are pro dancers Anna Trebunskaya, Chelsie Hightower, and Sharna Burgess as they arrived at ABC’s “Dancing With The Stars” 300th Episode Celebration in Hollywood, California last night. You can view loads of new pics of the whole cast as well as some alumni at Zimbio Pictures. Too fun!!
Past Pros Returning For 300th Episode Of Dancing With The Stars, The Wanted And Avril Lavigne To Perform
Get ready for the 300th episode of Dancing With The Stars on this coming Tuesday night! The Wanted and Avril Lavigne are set to perform. There will also be a “spectacular opening number” choreographed by Jason Gilkison with 22 pros and returning favorites, including Chelsie Hightower, Dmitry Chaplin, Louis Van Amstel and Anna Trebunskaya (Does anyone know why Maks has been excluded? Does he have a previous engagement?). Below are more details from ABC MediaNet including details for Monday night’s dances as well.
“Episode 1609 & 1609A” – Five remaining couples take to the ballroom floor during the Semi-Finals on MONDAY, MAY 13 (8:00-10:01 p.m., ET). Each couple perform two routines, inching their way one step closer to the coveted mirror ball trophy. Last week viewers were asked to vote via twitter on a new style of dance for each couple to perform; this week the couples perform their chosen style, including the Flamenco, Charleston, Afro Jazz, Lindy Hop and Hip Hop. Each couple will also be challenged to take on a ballroom or Latin style dance they have yet to perform this season.
On TUESDAY, MAY 14, “Dancing with the Stars” celebrates its 300th episode (9:00-10:01 p.m., ET). The show will feature music by The Wanted, who will perform their hit, “Fill A Heart,” and Avril Lavigne will perform her new single, “Here’s to Never Growing Up.” The 300th show celebration will feature a spectacular opening number choreographed by Jason Gilkison with 22 pro and returning favorites, including Chelsie Hightower, Dmitry Chaplin, Louis VanAmstel and Anna Trebunskaya. In addition, “AT&T Spotlight Performance” returns for its final installment of the season featuring Sophia Lucia, an incredible 10-year-old dancer who recently set the Guinness World Record for consecutive pirouettes. One couple will be eliminated at the end of the night.
DWTS Anna Trebunskaya, Chelsie Hightower, Maksim Chmerkovskiy And More Dazzle At 20th Annual Race to Erase MS Gala
Wow, aren’t these photos breathtaking?! Last night in Century City, California, Dancing With The Stars Anna Trebunskaya, Chelsie Hightower, Maksim Chmerkovskiy, Lindsay Arnold, Kellie Pickler, Lisa Vanderpump, and Gleb Savchenko attended the 20th Annual Race to Erase MS Gala “Love to Erase MS” at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza. Gorgeous!!! You can view more fun photos of them at Zimbio Pictures.
Well, side-by-side challenge night went about as well as can be expected when you put complete amateurs (well, and a ringer or two…) next to seasoned pros with years of experience under their belts. If nothing else, it let us see some sorely missed pros doing what they do best :-) The judges have made it pretty clear at this point who their favorites are (ZENDAYA, Kellie, Jacoby, & Aly), who they are lukewarm about (Sean & Ingo), and who is disposable (Victor, D.L., and unfortunately, now Andy), and seem to be scoring accordingly. And dare I say that many of the pros came out dancing at full throttle…but noticeably slowed down and calmed down when the celebs joined them on the floor? No bueno. And god bless Tom for soldiering through what had to be a tough night for Bostonians :-( Let’s get on with it…
1.) Zendaya & Val – It was a good dance, and I was actually impressed with Val’s first venture into Argentine tango choreography – and thankfully, he seemed to eschew the multitude of lifts big bro seems so fond of, and put in some good basic steps. Zendaya handled pretty well, and I liked the jewel thief storyline – I was worried they were going to go more the smut route, which would have felt…icky. But this was appropriate :-) So that was the good – now here’s the bad: I don’t think it was 10-worthy. Sorry kids. Once again, I find myself just fixated on how BENT Zendaya’s legs are – yes, I am aware she is tall, and yes, Argentine tango is usually done with a flexed knee. But girl was damn near SQUATTING – and consequently, it made her upper body look that much more flimsy when they were in hold. I hate when tall people (male or female) try to compensate for a shorter dance partner – it almost always looks awkward, and you don’t get the full impact of their lines. I say stand up straight and forget about who’s taller – the bf has 2 female students that have a good 3” on him in heels, and when they’re dancing to the full extent, it’s MAGICAL…their legs just go on forever. You don’t even worry about who’s taller, because the lines are so gorgeous. So with that said – these two are obviously safe (and thankfully, there were no Twitter machinations this week to tip things in their favor), but I do think Zendaya’s legs will continue to be an issue in the coming weeks.
2.) Kellie & Derek – I’ve always loved Derek’s foxtrots, and the Broadway quality & character they have to them. This was no exception – great side-by-side, playful choreography, and Kellie seemed to handle the sweeping motions of the foxtrot well. She seemed to get a bit stiff in her neck and shoulders at a few times, which looked a bit awkward, but other than that, she handled this routine well and I liked watching her do it. I think she probably came the closest to mirroring her pro counterpart tonight – and I think she has Derek to thank for not dumbing down the choreography, because in most of the routines, the pros went from dancing full-on, difficult steps to dancing simple, kindergarten steps without much energy. It gave me whiplash, at times. But the transition in this one felt seamless – the way Kellie was keeping up, it felt more like another pro couple joining Henry & Anna on the floor, rather than “Oh sh*t, here comes the celeb, better slow it down…NOW!” So even if Kellie “doesn’t like Derek’s ways” – I think it was those “ways” that probably helped her look so good tonight. Tony Dovolani, Maks Chmerkovskiy, and some of the cast did a Dancing With The Stars segment today for Good Morning America. Tony begins by taking us to what the ballroom looks like “naked” without the lights, the costumes, etc.. Then they show Maks. He teases us about a big pro number and one of the biggest we’ve ever seen on the show. Chelsie Hightower, Tristan MacManus, and Anna Trebunskaya also peek in to say they “are back” too. They also show some brief rehearsal footage and some costume teasers as well (beautiful!!). You can watch this fun segment at this link.
Also, when you get some time today, be sure you take in the new ABC Dancing With The Stars Pre-Party! Tristan MacManus joins in the fun to discuss Dorothy and tonight’s dances. Here he is talking about a “show stopper” for the show like Maks on GMA. It’s so good to see him again, isn’t it?!!
You can watch more of this Pre-Party here.
Just a quick update!! Music artist Kerli is set to perform for the Results show next week on Dancing With The Stars. Below is a tweet from Island records!!
UPDATE: And below is more information about the shows next week from ABC Media Net. Note how it mentions all the pros who are returning to perform. Also, Selena Gomez and The Band Perry will be performing.
“Episode 1605 & 1605A” – Nine remaining couples hit the dance floor and face an exciting new challenge MONDAY, APRIL 15 (8:00-10:01 p.m., ET). In another first for “Dancing with the Stars,” a new twist called “Len’s Side By Side Challenge” tasks each couple to perform a portion of their individual dance alongside a pro dance couple. The pro couples will include returning favorites Maksim Chmerkovskiy, Anna Trebunskaya, Tristan MacManus, Tony Dovolani, Gleb Savchenko and Chelsie Hightower. This new twist will allow the audience as well as judges to compare the celebrity’s dance technique in real time to a professional’s. Monday will also feature a show stopping opening number with the entire cast, returning pros and dance troupe.
On TUESDAY, APRIL 16 one couple will be eliminated on “Dancing with the Stars the Results Show” (9:00-10:01 p.m., ET). The show will feature music by multi-Platinum-selling artist Selena Gomez who will perform her new single, “Come & Get It,” and Country Rock group The Band Perry will perform their hit No. 1 song, “Better Dig Two.” The results show will also feature a spectacular opening number choreographed by Mark Ballas and Derek Hough.
“Macy’s Stars of Dance” returns for its second installment of the season. Choreographed by Emmy-nominated Stacey Tookey, this sexy and powerful performance will feature dancers Tyne Stecklein and Jeremy Hudson and music by singer/songwriter Kerli, who will perform “Love Me or Leave Me.”
More at ABC Media Net.
So you read my predictions for who is going to be gone before the midpoint of the season. Now it’s time for my predictions for who’s going to be sticking around longer…and who’s gonna win Read on!
6.) Ingo & Kym – Not sure quite what to make of these two – they’re very likeable and seem to have great chemistry, Ingo seems willing to work hard and eager to do well, and Kym, as always, is a very patient, nurturing teacher that brings out the best in her partners. But while everything seems pretty on the surface, I can’t shake the feeling that Ingo may be a bit…awkward. The rehearsal video and the pix we’ve seen so far seem to reveal some “Ralph hands”, and Ingo himself has admitted that he’s not exactly a graceful guy. I’m also seeing shades of him taking things just a little too seriously – and we’ve seen how being a little too serious and a little too desperate to do well can torpedo a couple’s chances of getting votes. Now don’t get me wrong – compared to some of the couples on the bottom half of the list (namely D.L. & Cheryl, and possibly Sean & Peta), Ingo & Kym have a great connection and “taking things a little too seriously” is less of a problem than, say, having zero chemistry with your partner or having a partner that just doesn’t seem to give a hoot I just don’t know that Ingo & Kym are going to coast through this season like Hines & Kym did. Fanbase-wise? I’m inclined to say that Ingo will benefit somewhat from the “soap vote”, although likely not to the degree Kelly did – since Ingo’s character on GH seems to only be recurring at this point, I don’t know that he’ll have as many of the same impassioned fans that voted for Kelly, also voting for him. We already know Kym is pretty well-loved, so her fanbase should help out somewhat…but I think overall, these two will probably be more on-par with the Cameron Mathison/Edyta partnership, rather than the Kelly/Val one. There are just too many more popular celebs (likely with better dance skills) this season for a soap star to really have a hope and a prayer of making it to the finale, methinks. Read more..
