Former Dancing With The Stars Pro Chelsie Hightower Shares Her Story

What a cool read on former Dancing With The Stars Pro Chelsie Hightower from the Desert News on how her dancing story began. Here are a couple of takes from the link. I wish they’d ask her back to do Dancing With The Stars.

While I am admittedly biased one year later, I wasn’t then. I was not a fan of “Dancing With the Stars,” and I didn’t know she had also been on Fox’s “So You Think You Can Dance.”

Two weeks after our first visit, she hosted a ward activity in her home on a Sunday night.

She and I talked for two hours afterward and have been friends ever since. I listened that night as she talked about realizing that she couldn’t handle the demands of her career on her own and how she came to understand that the Savior’s “yoke is easy” and his “burden is light,” as it says in Matthew 11:30.

Hightower’s dance career began when she was 9 and her family moved into the boundaries of the only elementary school in the United States with a ballroom dance program.

“I think I realized at a young age … that I was meant to be in that ballroom program, and I was meant to find dance,” Hightower said. “I felt like … the Lord was opening doors for me and guiding my path, and I’ve felt like dance was a part of that path since I was 9 years old.”

With the transition to Los Angeles and the pressure of the show, she found herself having anxiety and panic attacks, but she poured herself into dance.

During her time on “Dancing With the Stars,” she was nominated for an Emmy. She coached world champion rodeo cowboy Ty Murray to a fourth-place finish during her first season, and singer-songwriter Micheal Bolton called her “his light” during their time as partners on the show in 2010. She remembers these friendships as the most rewarding part of the experience.

Still, she knew where her strength came from.

Dancing with the Stars Season 22 – PRO WATCH!!

It’s that time of year again and who knows what kind of funky will go down this season. Will Derek finally hang up his DWTS shoes? Will Artem get hosed again in favor of the ever annoying Val? Will Sasha finally get his chance? Will Sharna continue to follow in the wrong footsteps, making unwise statements? Who will take Allison’s spot? These questions and more will hopefully be answered soon. 🙂

I don’t want to hear about Jenna being dance captain. I think that is likely decided among the dancers themselves and I doubt it has any significance in regard to the show – maybe she’ll be a pro, maybe she won’t. Derek and Julianne’s dance captain was someone you’ve likely never heard of. So what?

Kristyn Burtt claims that the pros have been told rehearsals start on February 22 – it remains to be seen if that is true or if it actually happens. Last season was so…fluid…that we’ll have to wait and see. I do think we’ll start to hear stuff from those with a lack of ability to keep their mouths shut. 🙂 There are some Derek fans that worry his media sweep happening next week will include an announcement about his status. The media sweep is because of Disneyland 60 – if an announcement happens, it will likely be that he’s out. If he says nothing or hems and haws, it might be that he’s in. He’s a tough call, as usual Read more..

I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. And I'm cynical and jaded too. But I do love DWTS. :-)

Ballroom With A Twist-mas Called “Nothing Short Of Spectacular” (Review)

Be sure to visit The Skip Sheffield. They have some beautiful photos of “Ballroom With A Twist-mas” show in Boca Raton. They also reviewed the show calling it “nothing short of spectacular”. Read on for more…

The dancing, directed and choreographed by Jaymz Tuaileva, is nothing short of spectacular. The real show-stopper is “American Idol” finalist Vonzell Solomon. That girl, aka Baby V, has some fine pipes.

“Twist-Mas” features a live onstage band, with players who double as singers. My favorite is Chantil Dukart, who spent most of her time wearing headphones, hunched over her keyboards. But when she took off the headphones and hit center stage, that girl was on.

While “Twist-Mas” features favorite Christmas themed-songs both sacred (“Silent Night”) and secular (“Jingle Bells Rock”), the main attraction is the dancing, executed by first-class professionals. You even get a question-and-answer session with the headliners.

It’s been a longtime since I took ballroom dancing lessons from the late Miss Betty D’Avray. While the illusion is to look effortless, ballroom dance is deceptively difficult and a lot of work. If you can appreciate that, you will love this show. I know I did.

To read the full review, see The Skip Sheffield. For tickets at more shows in December, see The Wick and The Hartfield Community College.

Gleb Savchenko Interviewed On Ballroom With A Twist-mas, Strictly Come Dancing, DWTS, And More

elena samodanova instagram and gleb savchenko

What a super interview with Gleb Savchenko and Hot Spots Magazine. He talks on his dancing career, Dancing With The Stars, Strictly Come Dancing, and performing in Ballroom With A Twist-mas In Florida on December 23 – 27th in Florida.

When did you first know that dancing was going to be your career?

When I won my first Russian Championship at the age of 12. I realized that’s what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.

Tell us a little bit about Ballroom with a Twist-Mas! How does one combine ballroom dancing and the holidays?

I’m very happy to be a part of the Ballroom with a Twist-Mas! show. It’s currently one of the best American dance theatre shows. People love dancing, especially during the holiday season, and they have a chance to see a dance performance in an intimate theatre with all the world’s best dancers in it.

You’ve competed in a number of Dancing with the Stars franchises, and right now you’re in the BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing. How are you doing? Who is your partner and how well are you getting along?

I’ve been doing DWTS in four different countries. At the moment I’m doing Strictly and I’m paired with a TV presenter, Anita Rani. We are doing very well and at the moment, we’re going through week 10 of the competition. Hope with all the hard work we put in, we will be able to get into the final and maybe win the Mirrorball.

Be sure to read more at Hot Spots Magazine. To read more on Ballroom With A Twist-mas which includes other dates starting on December 10th and also includes performances from Gleb’s wife Elena Samodanova, Tristan MacManus, Chelsie Hightower, and Jonathan Roberts, see The Palmbeach Post. For tickets, see The Wick.

Also, for those living abroad, Gleb’s wife Elena Samodanova is the choreographer for the new Dancing Stars Russia Tour which starts in February. You can read more on it at Dancing Stars Russia. This instagram has some fun teasers too. Beautiful photo of Gleb and Elena above courtesy of Elena’s Instagram.
