Dancing Pros Live “National tour truly highlights the “stars” – Review, Photos

The Souix City Journal is good about reviewing dance shows when they come to town and this is no different for “Dancing Pros Live“!! Read on for a little take from the link. You know where to go for more. Photos below courtesy of Karina and Edyta’s instagrams. Beautiful!

But this national tour truly highlights the “stars” – those incredibly talented professional dancers who show off their own style and athleticism in this live dancing competition.

The show was hosted by “DWTS” veteran Edyta Sliwinska and Alan Thicke, star of the television show “Growing Pains,” and — for you younger readers – the father of singer Robin Thicke.

Professional dancers from “DWTS,” “So You Think You Can Dance” and dance champions from around the world competed with one another in a variety of dance styles, including cha-cha, waltz, tango, swing and jitterbug, to name a few.

The evening was a mix of breathtaking dance, fun backstage stories and some impressive vocals from Holly Tucker, a finalist on “The Voice.”

Although the outcome is determined by the folks in the seats, three judges provided insights. “DWTS” pro Karina Smirnoff and choreographer Oscar Orosco were the national touring judges. Each competition also invites a local judge to assist, and that honor went to KTIV-TV news anchor Matt Breen.

PureDWTS Exclusive Interview: Edyta Sliwinska Chats About “Dancing Pros Live”, Dancing With The Stars, And More

Would you like to know a little more about the upcoming “Dancing Pros Live” tour? We asked Edyta Sliwinska to tell us a little about it. She also tells us on her and her baby’s first Christmas together (#AwwMoment). Edyta also answers a question about Karina Smirnoff who is judging and also a dancer in the show. Lots more below including some breathtaking photos from “Dancing Pros Live” of Edyta, Chelsie Hightower, So You Think You Can Dance’s Ryan Dilello, and other world champion dancers (click on the pics twice to see them in a bigger size). If you’d like to see more photos and read on “Dancing Pros Live”, see the official site. Also, if you haven’t got a ticket for “Dancing Pos Live” yet, be sure you do so soon HERE as tickets at venues are filling up fast. Special thanks to Edyta and her marvelous team for all the goodies to go with this interview!! Enjoy! It’s so good to see her again….

Hi Edyta!! How are you and how was your holidays? I bet it was fun having a little wee one to share them with this year?

It was a very special time for us; Michael’s first Christmas and shortly after his first birthday. We got to celebrate with our closest friends and family, which was really great and fun, since a lot of our friends have kids close to Michael’s age.

So, we hear you are about to embark on a new tour for “Dancing Pros Live. Can you tell us a little about it? What kind of dancing will it feature?

It’s an interactive competition on the stage where five professional couples compete for the audience’s vote by dancing solos in two rounds. The most fun part of the show is that in the end every member of the audience gets to vote for their favorite couple via remote device attached to their seat.

Besides couple’s solos there are big production numbers featuring variety of dance styles; ballroom, lyrical, west coast swing, jitterbug…Our cast is truly amazing, so it’s a very entertaining and high quality show.

We hear Karina Smirnoff will be a judge. Will she also be dancing in the new tour?

From what I know, Karina will dance in a featured solo performance. I am really excited to see Karina again!

Will you be dancing in the tour as well? If so, what kind of dances?

I will participate in a very energetic group jitterbug and will dance a paso doble solo.

Many of us, including myself, miss you on Dancing With The Stars. In fact, YOU were responsible for many of us becoming fans to the show in the beginning including myself and John (the administrator to PureDWTS). So, if you were to name your favorite season, which one would it be? What were a few of your favorite dances on the show?

It would be season 3 where I danced with Joey Lawrance and season 5 with Jason Taylor. I loved the Rumba with Joey and Quickstep with Jason but my favorite were some of the result show performances I did with my real life partner, Alec. We danced to Adele, Celine Dion or Colbie Calliat. These were very special to me.

Val Chmerkovskiy To Play His Violin On The Dancing With The Stars Live Tour – New Interview

Val Chmerkovskiy was interviewed by the Buffalo News before the premiere of the Dancing With The Stars Live Tour. He talks on the dynamics of the show (on tv), his partners, the reality of the rehearsal packages, off camera friendships, and more. But, interesting note in the interview….Val mentions how he will also be playing the violin in a trio performance with Mark Ballas and another guitarist on the tour. Oh, this is too cool. More below and at the link.

On whether any of his partners on the show ever disappointed him.

“Every partner has challenged me a bit. … For me dancing is about men and women coming together.”

On whether or not there are off-camera friendships between the show’s professional dancers and its judges.

“I feel there’s a certain natural distance that must be kept away from them.” He exempted from that Julianne Hough, a judge last season but before that a “peer” as one of the show’s professional dancers.

On whether his lifelong violin-playing will be part of “Dancing with the Stars Live.” (He and professional dancer Ballas have a trio with Ballas on guitar and another guitarist.)

It will. “I will never turn down a challenge.”

Chelsie Hightower Interviewed On The Dynamics OF DWTS And SYTYCD

What an interesting interview with Chelsie Hightower. She talks about the differences between doing Dancing With The Stars and So You Think You Can Dance…and lots more! From The Souix City Journal….

Both shows, she says, have given dance enormous attention but their goals are different.

“So You Think You Can Dance,” Hightower says, “is really about the art form of dancing. It’s about dance in its rawest, simplest form. ‘Dancing with the Stars’ is about the celebrity and his or her journey.”

Personality, then, becomes a key factor, particularly when it comes to the audience vote. “They’re going to vote for the person they relate to the most,” Hightower says. “You’ve got to be sell-able.”

Injuries, romances and fights are all part of “getting attention.”

“After 19 seasons, people start to catch on as to what works and what they think the audience wants to see,” she adds. “I’m not like that. I’m not going to be someone to put on a show or create drama.”

Instead, the 25-year-old pro has focused on the work that lands on the dance floor and, in the process, she netted an Emmy nomination for choreography.

Crafting dances, though, is only part of the “Dancing with the Stars” assignment. In addition to working with the celebrity, the pro has to help design costumes, choose the music and decide what props to use.

“You get your music Sunday night. You have a costume consultation on Tuesday and you have to rehearse five to seven hours a day.” Add in press interviews and it’s clear the job is more difficult than it looks. Even when a celebrity is voted off, the professional stays, performing in group dances and “bumpers” – dance turns before and after commercials.

“There’s so much that’s out of your control,” Hightower says. Gunning for the mirror-ball trophy, then, is almost impossible. “You try not to keep score. You’re a cast. You’re supportive of everyone. But, at the end of the day, it is a TV show.”

Dancing with the Stars Season 19 – “What do you mean I’m a ringer??” Update

Introduction

A couple of seasons ago, I created a set of criteria with which to measure the benefits some dancers on DWTS have compared to the other dancers. That is, ringers versus non-ringers. I attempted to be as logical and scientific as possible, although it’s impossible to remove all subjectivity from the issue. But it’s far better than simply saying “so and so isn’t a ringer, IMO”. In your opinion? If your opinion is purely subjective with no effort at logical or rational thought, then what good is it??

No good at all, actually. The original series sprung from an effort to debunk the old, tired and stupid claim that the only reason Derek does well is because he gets all the good partners and no one else gets them. Utter BS, of course. It would be a good idea to read that series before starting this one as I can’t guarantee that I’ll include all the same rationale this second time around and I don’t take well to discussing a subject with someone who is so rude as to not read the blogs. I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. And I'm cynical and jaded too. But I do love DWTS. :-)
